Captivate kk4 based rom opinions.

Just curious about what everyone's opinions are about the roms out there based on kk4. I'm on cyanogenmod 7.2 Kang build right now, but after upgrading my wife's phone to official gingerbread I'm thinking about going back to a stock based rom. Seems really fast and smooth. Mainly I'm looking for a rom with the Tmobile theme engine and screenshot capabilities as I'd miss those if I left cyanogenmod. I'm still debating whether or not to go back to a stock based rom.

I like the roms, nice and fast, good bluetooth.
No lag except that damn gallery bug, but i get that on other versions and on stock rogers gingerbread aswell.

Opinions are like buttholes...just flash it and decide for yourself...going back to what you're running now if you don't like it is not difficult.

Go to the market, get quickpic, you'll forget about the stock gallery entirely.

Well really just curious what everyone's using. Honestly there doesn't seem to be as many supported stock-based roms as their was on the earlier GB betas. I always used Cognition, but the most current version hasn't had an update since like July. I'm happy with Cyanogen for the most part, though it seems a bit buggier than stock. Really I just want a stock based rom with the theme engine and screenshot feature.

Neither of which exist on stock, and the first being impossible on stock.

I could of swore I've seen theme support in some of these roms. Either way guess I can always use uot kitchen.

I didn't see what the big deal was about screenshots but in the month and a half I've had cyanogenmod I've found I use the feature all the time

There are apps in the market that allow this. Shoot me is what i use...it also has a video feature, that will take a screen shot every so many seconds (depending on what you set it to) and then make it an mp4.
Oh and for theme support on a tw ROM, go to the market and get darky ota that should work. It injects the proper images and compiled xmls INTO the existing ROM, I've used it on mosaic, should work on all tw roms, I'd make a backup zip of the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk first though, that you can flash if it doesn't work. Or just reflash the ROM.

Yeah, but no theme engine. You have to flash them. Only the collectives have themes, and the others may have ICS themes.

I've thought about maybe just going to stock, removing the bloatware, installing corn kernal, installing a screenshot program, and then using UOT to get my themeing the way I want and calling it a day. That could work I suppose.

Ive been using it for about a week now and its really stable. It comes with an older corn kernel though so you might want to flash the new one.

I'm using the KK4-based version of SauROM (note that there's an I9000-based version too, which I haven't tried). It's mostly pretty nice, except that after a full day or maybe day and a half of use, the browser tends to go loopy. It freezes up and becomes non-responsive, and appears to be hogging the CPU, as hitting the home button doesn't repsond either. If I just put the phone down and walk away for half an hour, it's usually fine again when I get back, but I tend to just reboot instead which also fixes it. I find this annoying, but it's just infrequent enough to be tolerable. I've been meaning to try a different ROM to see if it's universal or not.

Well I was on stock rogers 2.3.3. and I found it very laggy. no matter what launcher I used: go, adw, lp, even sbp shell. after a while lag would start up that would require a reboot or the phone would just shut off. Games would start out fine then start lagging. I then flashed cm7 and noticed an immediate improvement with minor overclocking but I would still get that lag, but not as bad as stock.
I then flashed teamhacks 4.0.3 ics rc14. I can never go back to GB. It is so intuitive, very smooth. The transitions are amazing. Even with no overclocking it is miles faster than stock or CM7. I was considering buying a new phone but now I will not be.
Since you are on cm7 now why don't you flash ics . its very simple to do since you already have cm7 installed. then you can decide

I thought about it, but I'm kind of waiting for stable CM9 to be complete first. I hear it has an issue with rebooting during calls. Trust me though I'm very eager to try out ICS. I ended up going with Illuminance, so far so good. I'm currently restoring all my apps ATM. I'll report back after I"m done.
This is off topic but why is Titanium backup soo sooo slow? Why do I have to sit there and say "install" and "done" on everything? I wish I could have all the time back in my life I spent restoring stoff with titanium backup

I too was reluctant to go from CM7 to CM9, but I eventually flashed it just to check it out, with no intention of staying. Long story short, I've been using CM9 for the past two weeks and it's definitely stable enough to be a daily driver, IMHO. I believe the phone call reboot was solved (I've never had it anyway), the only issue I have had was charge death, but that was solved by switching to the Glitch kernel. If you are waiting for it to be stable, your time may have come
As far as TB is concerned, the paid version lets you batch restore your apps. Well worth the $5 or however much it was.

So far so good on ilkuminance but I miss my screen shot feature, and all the apps in the market suck. Why would I want a camera icon hogging up my screen? Anyway, I may try ICS sooner than later

I ran all of the stock GB roms, was not super impressed with them, switched to the SauROM KK4 and Love it. Very smooth, seems less buggy then stock kk4. Have had a few issues of it being unresoponsive for a minute or so everyonce in a while, but it seems to be rare.

Try SauromKK4 or FastyKK4
Advantage of SauROM is that it is one click Heimdall, and really hard to mess up.
I then tried Fasty - also pretty good.
I got the impression that SauROM is smoother.
But that Corn 7.0.5 kernel is buggy - beware!

I tried a few of the KK4 roms, but eventually went back to CM7 and Kangs because the speed and responsiveness.
Now I have a Captivate Glide and am waiting for dev to ramp up for it. The Glide is what I really wanted when I got the original a year and a half ago, so I am happy.

ics-superlite 4.3 and above

First i posted here because i can not post in the rom thread yet.
I just wanted to say ty to mhx, i have been running superlite 4.4 since it was uploaded with no issues other then needing the hot fix for gallery.
This was the first rom i put on my new skyrocket (coming from infuse 4g) so maybe this is the reason i have had none of the issues i keep reading about, i am assuming (knowing this can make a A__ out of me)all these issues are due to having other custom rom's and ICS "leak" flashed, imo ( i have rooted and flashed a inspire 4g, evo 3d,infuse 4g and now best phone ever skyrocket) odini to stock start all over from scratch for this phone maybe just maybe all these issues will go away.

4.5 to 5.0??
I can't post on the dev forum as well. I would like to ask, what are the differences between superlite 4.5 and 5.0? I installed 4.5 last night and took 2-3 hours so install and set everything up. So I'm dragging my feet on having to install and setup everything again.
It is running smooth, way better than 4.3 (it was kinda laggy). So I'm just wondering if I'm missing something out if I don't update to 5.0...
Edit: 4.5 didn't have gTalk, but I just installed it from some APK someone posted in the main superlite forum.

Super lite 5 is even slimmer and faster. The only thing I don't like is the automatic reboot during the install process. I've had the best luck with all ICS roms clearing dalvik and cache after install before the first boot. Battery life thus far is amazing.

After flashing all of the available ICS roms up to this point. I had only to try the Superlite 5.0 which I did today. It seems to be, by far, the smoothest running ROM I've tried yet. All others have given me issues with lag and freezing of user and system apps so badly that after three or four days I'd give up and go back to gingerbread. This Superlite is really solid

I have not flashed 5.0 yet, i ahve no issues with 4.5.
Does 5 have better battery life and what else would you consider better if i may ask so i can decide if i wanna flash it.

I have to chime in and agree here that, Superlite 5.0 is fantastic. I've had zero problems so far since flashing it this morning, and battery life is very respectable. And to think I was so ready to jump ship to GNex simply for their devs. Mhx has done a tremendous job!

ok, mhx posted the differences and I have all the apps 5.0 has and none of the problems it solves. So I'm staying with 4.5. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

My first experience with this ROM is flashing 5.0 and I never had a chance to flash the previous version so I can't offer a quality comparison there. However, comparing 5.0 to almost any other of the ICS roms I can say very confidently that it seems Superlite possesses some super essential ingredient that the others desperately need. I read thus morning that he writes all the needed steps into the one flashable script. The wipe, the modem, and the ROM..I mean this is now day three on this ROM for me with very heavy use and literally not even one bit of lag, no force close, and not one freeze. In my experience this is unmatched performance.

Fastest Jelly Bean ROM

I have been using first Helly bean as my first JB ROM. Though it was claimed that it was fast, I never realized the speed. The UI/bowser/almost every think was lagging. Next I tried CM10 the same story... first it feels fast by as time progress the same lag.
Today I installed LANIGHT. It is really fast.... unbelievably fast. I didn't know android on cappy can be this fast.
What other ROMs do you guys use are equally or better?

I'm giving it a look now.
I use Helly Bean and it is very fast with some slight lag when changing between apps, I imagine due to the apps using resources. App drawer and launcher are smooth.
My only issue is the datadata folder, only 172MB and it fills up right away. Even clearing cache and uninstalling the biggest apps, more stuff just comes in and takes up that free space.
May have to try a non datadata ROM but a user in the Lanight thread said the no datadata ROMs use 430MB partitions but they fill up even faster, so I'm not sure what my best option is for speed.

Anyway... I can concur with the speed of this rom (LANight v2). I was a long time TeamNyx ICS RC5 user and I wanted a little change. Debated and decided to try CM10... what a mistake (no offense to anyone... expecially the CM team). I know it is still in development but my experience was not good at all. I spent a whole 3 hours or so trying to figure out a way to make it work but nothing... it was not usable. I blamed the lag on the no datadata that the CM10 uses... so... back to an ICS rom. CM9 which uses datadata was wonderful... and stable... but reading through the LANight threads... I had to try. so with a lot of hesitation, I loaded the no datadata version... and I was so surprised!!! compared to CM10 and other roms with datadata fixes... it was flying!
Until I realized it's limitations that is... Like I said on the other thread, it seems that eventhough you start out with a larger partition, the fact that now everything is stored here (app & data) Vs. just the passing by data on datadata roms, it sort of defeats the purpose of having the larger space.
Anyway, I still am not dissapointed at the rom. I think the dev has done a fantastic job! It's just since not having datadata doesn't offer any greater freedom to load apps on these devices, I think I will keep this for a while and maybe try LANight's datadata rom. Because this one, flies in comparison to CM10... (but I notice some minor lag here and there)... I think if this one is this good, I have hopes that the datadata version would be even smoother...
Please let me know if this assumption is accurate...

Running aokp kang build 4 with Nova launcher no problems getting it installed using their guides.

The new MonfroAOSP is equally as impressive. I've used both extensively and can vouch for either :thumbup:

I am using CM10 Nightly. When I first flashed it, it was real laggy. But I just reflashed it, and it works really well. Very fast, and as far as I can tell, its very stable. Maybe try flashing CM10 twice ? That's what worked for me anyway.

Any CM10 based ROM post about 9/13 has become SUPER fast, and just recently this last week all of them started using the LV setup for /data allowing about 3 times as much space for data with no sacrifice in snappiness.
very impressive. IMO the Captivate with these roms runs faster than a stock SGS 2, with touchwiz cluttering crap up.

i am newly using slimbean and like it alot except for a camera issue. (where is it) ucam for now. i tired jellyui miui awhile back but despite the beautiful black sexiness it was laggy for me. I am curious why there is so many different experiences with similar setups around here. same fone same rom different battery life... etc etc...

Exactly my thoughts. Helly lagged on my cappy but Slimbean really is impressive.

LLanight v6.5 DD

Im in the edge of switching from CM9 to some JB Rom, But Im still a bit insecure about it, cause I like stable versions, This phone is the only one I have, and I don't like to be dealing with bugs and major issues, So Can anyone really using this phone with Helly Bean or Slimbean, tell me how stable is? BTW This Roms are official stable versions? or they are still at testing level?

I haven't tried the recent helly's but i can confirm slim bean and lanight are both super snappy. Lanight has less features and just like every other ROM I've flashed since 2010 is buggy but has workarounds.

Use AceofSpades90's X-bean port in my opinion its better than his LANight Rom. Now im just waiting for v2 to come out Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863927

Thanks for the suggestion, and yeah, I've been reading a lot of good things about that ROM, of course some people with issues too... I'm not that expert about flashing roms yet, but I suppose while I keep my nandroid backups I can go back if I screw something up, thanks to Odin too...
I can't post in SlimBean Post because of my few posts (Just entering to this new world of Captivate and Flashing), and I read something about the need to flash a Modem for SlimBean, or that, SlimBean takes the modem of the current rom you are using, and since I'm using CM9, Will I need to flash a modem or SlimBean should automatically use the one I have now? I don't even know what modem I'm using :S

Helly Bean has been a real trooper for me. I've updated it to nearly every version that has come out.

Meh, just download the ROM from the thread, follow the instructions. Modems can be downloaded herehttp://soggycashew.weebly.com/cm7miui--ics-modems.html. Just flash the modem after you flash the ROM of your choice. Let the ROM load and then in recovery, flash modem like you would a ROM or a kernel. Profit from jb goodness. Personally, I'm diggin the AOSP ROM's ATM because of the speeeeeeed

Slim bean spontaneously reboots into recovery
Hi, I wish I could ask about this in the developer's thread, but I have no rights there. So, maybe some can shed some light: I installed Slim Bean 2.6 a few days ago, doing Heimdall to stock and using CM10 as a stopgap rom to get bootloaders. Everything installed fine and works great except one thing: the phone spontaneously reboots into recovery. Sometimes once a day, sometimes twice an hour. It is a problem because one in recovery it just sits there, eats battery and waits for me, so if the phone is in the pocket, I am missing calls, emails and etc. Any suggestions where I could dig a bit to find the cause?

Hey guys, been a fan of XDA for years, infinite amounts of knowledge here it seems, and I know nothing. While I could spend years reading all the posts and searching, I figured some of the more knowledgable members may be able to answer a couple quick questions without giving me TOO big of a hard time.
I have had my G2x for about a year which is running 2.3.4, March 2011 baseband. I used to own a G1 and a Motorola Cliq and had experimented with rooting it. I am looking for something new and different, as I'm kind of sick of regular old GB. There is so much knowledge here, and on some ROMs 100's of pages of stuff to read, which unfortuantely most of which I find confusing. I know nothing about baseband versions, radios, etc. I plan on researching a lot of these things, as thats obviously the only way to learn.
My Fiance and I both have the G2x, and are both needing to be hard reset and they're running slowly and the battery seems to be draining faster and faster. I planned to do a hard reset this weekend, but figured I may experiment with rooting and custom roms. If you guys can answer some questions for me, I'd greatly appreiciate it! I know that all this information is likely out there, although I feel completely lost and overwhelmed, unsure where to begin. I had the following questions.
If I decide to root the phone, and try different roms am I always able to "unroot" the phone and bring it back to factory just as it is now? Is this general rooting guide good for 2.3.4? Can I root without loading a custom Rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1594650
I had been noticing that with Hellfire Sandwhich, and EaglesBlood there are some known issues, like bluetooth I believe, but I'm having a hard time seeing what isn't working currently. I would like to try ICS, but want something stable where I'm not going to experience a lot of programs not working. I don't do a lot on my phone but would like all the little things to work. How would I find "current bugs" or something similar, as there are hundreds of posts I can't seem to find the information.
Is there a certain rom that most people recommend for ICS that is more stable, possible CM?
How common is it to completely brick your phone, if you're not an idiot and follow instructions?
I was told when I bought the phone that it would receive ICS OTA, but this seems debateable. Am I better off waiting to see if this happens, or what do you guys recommend?

That guide will work for you. The good news is that the G2x is close to impossible to brick (it can be done, but definitely takes some talent). NVflash can be used 98% of the time to fix your phone.
As far as ROMs go, you have to experiment. Every G2x is different, and handle different setups differently. With that being said, Kwes's rooted stock ROM fixed a lot of the problems I had with my G2x. If you're bored with stock, most CM7 based ROMs are very stable. As far as ICS goes, Genesis was always my favorite, and the most reliable for me. I recently started playing with Paranoid Android CM9, and so far it works great, and provides a really unique experience.
Just read the first few posts of every ROM and it should provide you with most of the information you need to make a good decision. Hope this helps, and happy flashing!

I've tried pretty much every ROM available (save for quite a few GB ROMs and two JB ROMs), and I feel that the CM10 Paranoid Android is the smoothest ROM available. Every ICS ROM is smooth when you first install it (and I especially love all the features in Domination and Genesis), but after a week or so of use, your phone will start lagging again. With PA, lag is at a minimum. I was on CM9 PA last before getting sick of lag before switching to a GB ROM for a month or so, then decided to finally try out CM10 PA because I just missed flashing new ROMs and I was very impressed. CM10 version runs WAY better than CM9.

I just rooted my phone about 1 week ago and used the guide that the OP posted..everything worked great...I'm currently running hellfire 2.3 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420972&highlight=hellfire+2+3) and freaking loving it...sooo much better than stock...basically follow the directions from the thread you posted and you'll be fine...

It depends on how important it is to you to have good picture quality with your phone. Even though this phone doesn't have the greatest camera, the stock camera is the best. If you flash to a CM ROM the quality is horrible. I love the performance of CM, but the camera quality was a deal breaker for me.
I ended up trying some stock 2.3.3 roms, but I have ended up back on my rooted stock running 2.3.4 with some tweaks from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1806868&highlight=tweaks and I am running faux's 14b2 kernel. With these two things my phone runs really good.

You know that there is a port of the original lg cam for cm7 right?

I've tried pretty much every ROM available (save for quite a few GB ROMs and two JB ROMs), and I feel that the CM10 Paranoid Android is the smoothest ROM available. Every ICS ROM is smooth when you first install it (and I especially love all the features in Domination and Genesis), but after a week or so of use, your phone will start lagging again. With PA, lag is at a minimum. I was on CM9 PA last before getting sick of lag before switching to a GB ROM for a month or so, then decided to finally try out CM10 PA because I just missed flashing new ROMs and I was very impressed. CM10 version runs WAY better than CM9.

Do you have a link to the CM10 Paranoid Android you're referring to? I was able to find http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891480 which says it's CM10, although says alpha and hackfest stating it's buggy. The other version that I found was CM9. Is this the version you're saying is the smoothest?

That's the one. It's no less buggy than any ICS ROM if that's the flavor your going for. CM10 is smoother than CM9. At least in my experience. Does anyone else want to chime in?

The only thing that took me back to CM9 was the battery drain issue on CM10.
On a different note: my phone only likes stock ROMs, but I recent found out about Weapon a New Clip, and it is pretty sweet, and just as reliable as anything else I've ever used

CM10 Paranoid looks soo beautiful and I'm really tempted to try it out, but I have a really good thing going on right now with the hellfire...it's super stable and smooth plus I have a ics theme on it so that keeps things fresh for me. I do have one question for those on CM10 Paranoid. Is it stable enough that you can run the 4.2 gapps or any themes/launchers on it??

I know I tried it. Not a whole lot of difference. I had my wife's stock g2x to do a side by side comparison. I was hoping it would be better.

Hey guys, I rooted my phone and installed Hellfire sandwhich about a month ago. The rom seemed to run good at first, and progressively get slower. I just picked up a Nexus 7 and have no desire to run custom roms on my phone anymore as the tablet has all the bells and whistles, therefore at this point i want to bring my phone back to original condition.
I used this guide to root my phone - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1594650 and installed HFS from there. I am looking at threads to unroot and some of them are using ADB. The first thing that I did is to load my Nandroid backup from when I oringinally rooted my phone, and I am receiving the message saying "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!". I have gone to this thread- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114, but I am unable to access my phone via ADB, as it's saying "Error: Device not found". I have tried to boot into CWM and plug the phone in there, but appears that all my drivers are not loading - http://puu.sh/1JH8J and it's still saying device not found. I have tried enabling USB debugging, as well as turning it off. When I plug the phone in, I only have the option of "Media Device (MTP)" or "Camera (PTP), no "charge only" option under "USB Computer Connection".
I am unsure what to do at this point. I have installed the "LGUnitedMobileDriver S4981MAN38AP22 ML WHQL Ver 3.8.1" drivers and still receiving the same error. Sorry if this has been addressed, as I'm sure it has, but can someone point me in the right direction. Thank you!

Have you tried this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1048274 and unroot with SuperOneClick or whatever.
OP have you tried an MIUI based ROM? That's always been a bit of a different experience for me.

I have tried this, and that's when I'm receiving the "Checking MD5 sums...MD5 mismatch!" error after choosing to restore.

I'm sick of gingerbread!
I want sum different. I've had eaglesblood 2.3.4 for years on my g2x and I have tried
Hellfire - works for a while then stuff goes wrong after a wk or so
Tried ICS - stuff is always wrong
On MIUI - and simple stuff is not working after days
I have been flashing phones for a very long time and all the ROMs above I have flashed over n over again and the fact still remains. They DONT Work!
I'm about to flash my eaglesblood back because that's the only thing that works the longest wit no bugs.
is there anything available besides eaglesblood that's stable?

Why continue to flash new Roms?

I'm certain this has been brought up before Several thousand times, but I gotta ask again...What is it that drives people to constantly flash new Roms/updates every couple days or even weeks?
I have been running cleanRom 3.0 and having no issues, no bugs, GREAT battery life. Why would I change that? I know CleanRom 5.0 has come out, but what would be the point to update if 3.0 is working perfectly and spot on?
Is it that people get bored?
Is it that people wonder what is different?
just makes me wonder.

Im guilty of this myself. I believe a rooted debloated with a theme of your choice is the way to go

ive probably flashed 75% of the roms available for this device just to see what theyre all about.
it helps me help other people, and helps me make my device my own.
most of the times its out of boredom and i restore my daily driver rom

Because updates to the ROM = possibly better phone

I prefer stability but I like changing stuff on my phone. I'll stay on a rom for a few weeks and not change a thing but the entire time I'll want to flash something even if I have no reason too smh Ultimately, I'm just not satisfied with what ships out the box.

I used to flash weekly with my OG droid, over the years I have slowed down to once a month or so. I have 4 android devices so thats still a lot of flashing. I am always in search of the perfect rom, haha whatever that may be. faster, smoother, bells and whistles. I don't even know.

To have the latest and greatest rom.

Bug fixes and improvements. Plain and simple.

I've been trying to find the best Rom for what I do every day, but there are always little problems that bug me on every Rom. I damaged Clean Rom 5.0 and have finally stopped the daily flashing. This is as close as I well get to the prefect Rom.

BUT for those of us that prefer performance (i.e. great battery life, no issues/bugs, fast speeds) over "new'ness", once you find a Rom that gives you the best of all worlds, why would you even worry about the latest? I have been on CleanRom 3.0 for since a couple weeks after it came out. ONLY reason I went to it was because I wasn't happy with the 4 Roms I tried before. Those 4 Roms I tried prior all had bugs or poor battery life that I wasn't happy with. Now that I am Happy with EVERYTHING, I dont plan on changing.
And don't get me wrong here, I know that just because I am satisfied and not wanting to flash doesn't mean that others will be content with that. Nobody needs to tell me that. I'm not trying to debate, just trying to see how others here think.

Because it is great to see the capability of your device by exploring different roms and it is so darn addicting.

Because the majority of us here at XDA who root our phones and flash ROMs are tech junkies. Technology is like a drug to many of us. We are never content and always need the next fix, whatever the latest and greatest may be.
CleanROM 5.0 is built on the latest Jelly Bean leak, which has many improvements over the Ice Cream Sandwich base that CleanROM 3.0 is built on.

I'm like you in that I don't want to potentially compromise the stability and functionality of my phone without significant incentive. For me the incentive was new functionality and increased performance. I've only flashed three roms other than stock.
CleanROM 3.1 was the first ROM I flashed, and as you said, it's stable with great battery life and pretty smooth. The smooth operation of my phone is what made me cautious about jumping to the first JB leak. Instead I kept track of the CR, stock leak, and Jelly Beans threads and read up on the bugs and issues.
Ultimately what I was reading about Google Now and Project Butter made me realize that I really wanted Jelly Bean and the few known issues in JB leak #2 were not enough to stop me from flashing Jelly Beans Build 2. I don't regret that decision, Jelly Beans is a cool rom with a nice AOSP theme, ran really smooth, and generally gave me good battery life (depending on what I was running). Also Google Now is really really cool.
Then I was reading about AOSP roms like LiquidSmooth RC9 and SlimBeans 3.1 that were about the come out. It seems like those teams had dedicated developers who were squashing existing bugs. With the remaining bugs pretty much known, but the ROMs otherwise stable I decided to give LiquidSmooth a shot. The motivation here was to really rid myself of all the stuff Samsung had running in the background, with touchwiz it seems like there are a million things classified under "Android System" when trying to diagnose a battery drain. With AOSP when I look at battery stats Screen and Cellular Calls are the only apps that really make a dent. I also like the clean styling, functionality, and flexibility of the AOSP lockscreen and UI in general.
Unless I encounter any other problems I will probably wait for a stable AOSP 4.2.1 rom to come out so I can try the new features there and hopefully some bug fixes for the bluetooth audio issues in 4.1.2.

I m coming from a tbolt i now have a verizon s3(unrooted so far) n I m guilty of "being in search of a perfect rom". What drove me to search was claims of better battery life, quicker and stable. What drove me back to my daily driver(skyraider) was frequent reboots( while googlemaps), applications not working(slingbox in particular ) inability to view video(live streams from my church).
I m currently doing research for the perfect rom for my S3 as I just activated the s3 yesterday (n I'm missing having a rooted phone) and I m resisting the urge to root!

I give it three days before you root/unlock or no later than the weekend. Regardless: root, unlock, and backup your IMEI!

I'll second backing up your IMEI... being a total noob I researched and backed up everything I could, and I'm glad I did, second Rom I flashed sent my phone into permanent roaming. Following the stickies here made the fix simple.

If everything works it just means you aren't running the latest and greatest.
You must tweak your phone until something breaks.
Then you search for the next fix.
It is the path that must be followed.
