Help! think I short circuited my g2x, can some knowledgeable people chime in please? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey everyone,
So basically I just put the eagles blood ics ROM on my rooted g2x and everything was working great for 3 days prior to the incident.
Basically what happened was that I found this charger lying in my kitchen and saw that it was usb equipped so I plugged it into my car and plugged a oem micro usb wire in it.
I start the car, plug my phone in (on), then put it down expecting it to charge like normal, as I went to grab my wallet as the car warmed up. A few minutes later I come back, and notice a distinct smell, like something plastic was burning?
My phone was off when I grabbed it and I unplugged it immediately. I let it cool down for a few minutes and put it back in but it refused to start and it has stayed this way for several days now.
Screen show's no signs of turning on, no clock work recovery, no signs of life with the wall charger plugged in or usb in computer. It isn't turning on so I can't use adb or anything to flash a stock ROM but it's not a software problem to begin with it seems so idunno.
The only clue I have is when I plug it in to the wall charger. If you look at the back of our exposed phone, the area with the trash can symbol X'd out and black connector with 3 prongs for the battery gets hot to the touch, anyone know if this means I shorted this area or if replacing my battery with a fresh one will bring it back to life.

hold volume down + pwr
plug in battery while holding down pwr.
Tell me if there are any signs of life! also try this without the battery and with a power cord.

nothing can you confirm that it turns on when plugged in without a battery? If so then my battery is not the problem and I can infer that it is something wrong with the hardware?
If I sent it in for warranty, do you think they would be able to see that it is rooted? I have full coverage for drops and what not... thank you for your time.

Use the warranty , since it doesnt turn on they wont be able to tell if its rooted or not, i would also check the volts that the lighter adapter is putting out to avoid burning out other devices.

It should power up without the battery, but not boot. If it doesn't then the phone is likely damaged. And, no they won't be able to tell it's rooted not that it makes a difference to them. I've personally sent in 2 rooted phones under warranty that worked without any problem what so ever.

yeah, the phone should work like normal without a battery while plugged in. looks like you fried your phone.
If you sent it out for warranty, i think its like a 90% chance that it will be covered (you would tell them that it did this with the stock charger)
But if you have the insurance (like it sounds like you do), you could tell them the truth and im almost sure you'll get it replaced without issue. you will have to pay the deductible though (like $100)
so it just depends on what you want to do (or what your conscience will let you to do)
Edit: also, Throw that charger in a volcano! you don't want to have someone pick it up and try to charge their phone (or your new one) with it again.

Tell them the truth either way. Its the right thing to do. People wonder why phones cost so much. Cause people lie and it drives costs up for recovery. People wonder why the world is the way it is. Cause people lie. Just be honest. No one shpuld have to pay for our mistakes.

thanks for all the help everyone, I guess I royally screwed something up. Hope everyone learns from my mistake to never use a cheap no name brand charger!
As for the phone, I got it for free from amazon with a contract so I'll just use my warranty and pay the deductible because it's the right thing to do as I did highly modify the phone afterall...

SOLVED!!! [Q] Help! Nexus S won't turn on!!! :(

Hi everyone.
Last night I went to bed and as usual I check my Nexus S battery.
It indicated me very low battery, and turn it off.
So far, no problem, i thought, well there isn't enough battery to turn on the phone. I connected the cellphone to the wall charger and went to sleep.
Today i woke up and try it to turn it on, the screens just flashes and nothing happens.... Removed battery, try it again, the same.
Try 100 times that, and there was one time a Warning of Bootloader came up. Don't know what i did different thought, but now i can't get the same result.
Actually now the screen doesn't even flashes when i press the power button.
The battery seems to be charged, i tested with a LED. My wall charger is also working cause it's able to charge my old phone.
And now to get things even worse, as i bought it in asia, i don't have warranty, and the gran finale, Nexus S is not been sold in Brazil due to some regulatory issues, so Samsung said it they can't help me with an imported product.
The Cellphone is brand new, doesn't have not even ONE month of use.
It's not rotted, and it was in the latest android firm.
Does anyone have any idea what can i do????

Is it showing full bars when you connect the charger and press the volume button?

i think you tried everything possible, can't see what else you could do. Looks like a hardware issue..
if i were you, i'd claim for warranty, even if you bought in hk, it has warranty, of course you will lose shipping cost, but, it's better than lose the phone! =o]

The problem was that there was a little tiny piece of plastic dirt in the usb male plug in the phone! And that piece was able to make a faulty contact with the charger, the phone battery was dead as hell.
Can you believe that?????
I almost sent my phone across the world in order to use the warranty.
Now I'm back with my cellphone up , happy as hell!
Tnks a lot, and remenber to always clean everything before use more drastic measures.

Wow.... really good news, i always clean contacts before everything, my old desire hd was going in car mode, just because a short in this piece, and when i cleaned with isopropyl alcohol it was magically solved.

Replacement Parts

Does anyone know where I could order replacement battery contact pins (what is the proper term?) My SGS4G was given to me and the pins were mangled I was able to straighten 2 of them out, but one was so bad that a piece of it broke off when I was trying to fix it. My phone still turns on and hopefully charges. Also with these pins being messed up would that affect the life of the battery? Earlier this morning my phone was at 80% battery level. After playing a few songs and installing a system font with ROMtoolbox, I rebooted my phone and got a warning that my battery was almost dead. Would these contacts cause that? Or is it just my battery (My biggest theory). I would really appreciate any help that can be gven to me on this issue.

Without actually knowing what each contact does, and without being able to interpret "El my no" into working English with a meaning, my guess is that you're asking if your phone will still work with the contact broken. And the answer is... maybe? If it charges, great. It charges. If it turns on, well, it's probably still pulling power.
If it doesn't charge, and switching batteries or using something like a PowerSkin/keeping it on an external battery forever works for you then great... it still works.
You've already said it's turned on. I'm assuming from what you said that it was working while on battery as well, so that's obviously functioning as it should.
That basically leaves as its question... what did that pin do? And the answer is... something. Probably. If you're pulling battery normally now, it was probably a ground. Which means your phone may become a brick at some unexpected point in the future when there's a tiny power fluctuation that would normally have gone through there, but enjoy it while it lasts.
Additionally, battery-level fluctutations on restarting are fairly normal and apparently generally a sign that the battery itself is fading. Amusingly you can trick the phone into believing that there's a higher battery level by plugging into AC, restarting again, and then unplugging after it finishes the restart. Alternatively, setting the phone into Airplane mode for 30 minutes will usually jump battery level by 10-40%, depending on what its level was before and after the restart. But your best bet is to just plan on replacing the battery if you haven't destroyed the phone by poking at the pins which weren't made to be poked at.
I would look at a local repair shop. Most of them can fix those basic things without much problem.
I would just google phone repair and your city see what pops up. Read the reviews on the places and then see what they can do.

[Q] Bricked! Won't charge and com doesn't recognize. Help!

Hey guys
I rooted and flashed paranoid android of my tab and it was working fine. Couple of weeks later I left it to charge overnight not realizing the charger is spoilt, hence, didn't charge my tab. Battery drained completely and i couldn't get it started again. Tried leaving it to discharge overnight and plugging in a new charger to charge overnight and still nothing. It was still under warranty so I sent to to samsung and guess what? They told me it's been rooted and hence the warranty is void and they told me they need to replace the motherboard which costs almost $300. FML. Took it back and now I have a really fancy paperweight.
Was wondering if you guys know anything I can do to get it back to life? Or at least unroot it so I can send it back for repairs?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
More likely a battery issue. Batteries should never be fully discharged or risk battery damage.
Although the kernel does (supposed to) limit the charging rate, I have read others with Samsung devices manage to "kick-start" the battery back to life using a `after market ` 2 amp AC battery charger. Leave it on overnight, or at least for an hour or two before trying to power on.

However I did buy another 2amp AC charger and also left it overnight to charge but still got nothing. Any other suggestions? Could it be a motherboard issue? (Samsung told me it's a motherboard issue - they must have found that out somehow right?)

Seems very strange that depleting the battery completely would have caused a motherboard issue,.... but if Samsung say so, it must be.....
If you could get hold of a new battery and replace it yourself, the cost could be minimised (if it is a battery problem). But if it is the motherboard, you could just be waisting more of your money.
If there is no way to power the device on, yes, it is just an expensive paper weight. The cost of repair may not be worth it, Sorry.
Edit: Without being able to power up into download or recovery mode, there is no way to remove evidence of rooting, but not sure how Samsung actually knew....

That's the part that puzzles me as well. If there is no way for me to power on and check the status of the device, how did Samsung manage to find out that I rooted the device? There are a few questions that have come to mind because of this:
1) Are they trying to pull a fast one on me?
2) If they are able to check my root status, means the battery can still be used. If so, how?? I just wanna boot up to unroot then send back to Samsung before my warranty ends on 11 May!!
But if nothing works then I'll be forced to buy a new phone :|

They knew cause they managed to fixed your device, saw it rooted, break it again and send u back (for some extra money extortion i guess), i doubt unroot and send it back will help cause they remember, unless u take it to another country

The "battery issue" is quite plausible, so may still be the cause.

Before I waste any money - What do y'all think? Battery, or worse?.. YiKES !!

So, yesterday, I'm just lounging on the couch, readin' on my OG Nexus 5 (from 2013, mind you). &, BAM !! Just turns off (with about 40% battery). So, I'm thinkin', "Ok. I'll just force a reboot..." NOTHING !! So, I plug it in... NOTHING !! I'm talkin' NO LEDs, no charging indicator, no NOTHIN' !! Can't access recovery or bootloader. I believe it to be a hardware issue, whether battery or some board, idk. So, what do you all think? Replace the battery? And, If it is dead, I'm out of luck !! Because, I have a good amount of research that I hadn't backed up yet. Btw, I'm no slouch, so I've tried every button combo, etc. Neither, do I believe it to be an internal power button issue.

I suggest charging the phone using the original cable and charger that came with the phone. Leave it on the charger for about an hour to see what happens.
Yes, it could be the battery but it could also be something else. I assume you don't have another Nexus 5 to test it with.
Try to disconnect and reconnect the battery's wire. I had a similar problem and it was solved by doing so .

I've tried this, and unresponsive. And, you have assumed correctly. lol Also, I've only used the OEM cable & charger (aside from the occasional alternatives out & about i.e. friend's charger, g/f's, etc.).

By this, do you mean the long L-shaped one? Or, the smaller connection at the top of the battery? Because, I had disconnected & reconnected the ribbon, but never removed the battery, as I lack that li'l blue tool in the iFixit video.
Well, the battery will be the cheapest unless you can quickly score a used N5 with a damaged screen and working internals.

The small connector not the long L shaped. I think the L shaped is for the speaker and some other components in the bottom of the phone and not related to the battery.
You don't need the blue tool to remove the battery. Just heat the battery with a hair dryer to soften the adhesive. Then, take a a flat blade and gently slide it between the battery and frame. Slide and gently pry the battery away from the frame. I have done this several times on N5s and never had a problem.

Ok. So, I had gone ahead and disconnected & reconnected the battery connector to no avail. :\ (Why do bad things happen to kinda sorta, in a way relatively good people like myself?.. smh) Any other advice?..
So, I'd decided to stop being a cheap BASTARD and ordered a "Genuine OEM Google Nexus 5 LG D820 D821 2300mAh Battery BL-T9 3.8V 8.74Wh" on amazon, sold by YDT Parts for $6.49 (Free Shipping from California) if anyone else is interested. I'll post results after installation, just-in-case anyway else finds themselves in my predicament...
That price is really good for a genuine oem battery compared to prices from etradesupply.

I KNOW, RIGHT !? Hopefully, all that I have is a dead battery. Guess I'll see soon enough. Now, if only there were a way to get a fingerprint reader on this device, I wouldn't update till the N5's no longer updated. (What's the official term for that, anyway? Not EoL, is it?..)
Let's hope it is genuine. I bought one from Aliexpress that looked just like an original but people said it is not an original because the temperature would not go above 29c. I don't know if it is original but it's works fine.
Well, got the battery and NOTHiNG !! So, idk, maybe my N5's just dead. But, the supplier might as well have been from China - Typos, terrible English, the whole 9... Also, my OEM battery's by Sony, but this one says Samsung, so who knows?.. :: shrugs:: I don't trust these companies anymore. Thanks for y'all's input, though.

Anyone had issues with the phone charger?
My girlfriend is using an S7 and she has a lot of problems with the charger. Phone is not rooted or any custom ROM. Just stock. I replaced the chargers twice until now. The first one took almost a year to break. This one took like 6 months or so.. Has anyone encountered this type of issue before? All the chargers are taken directly from Samsung.
Charger starts to show signs of malfunction when it's missing the fast charge option or not charging at all. Then it returns to normal. Then in a matter of days the charger is not working anymore.
Phone variant is G930F. I'll attach a screen of Ampere after the last "charging" with the broken charger. It took the print screen after a minute or so. It's hard to keep a girl away from her phone.
P.S. Charger is 100% broken as I'm not able to charge my phone with it, so I just want to know if this is a phone issue or a voltage issue.
Sounds more likely that the phone is damaging the chargers vs you constantly getting bad charger replacements

You should bring it to the service center, and they will check the port for you. Thing is, the port might be bad, and for this reason it kills all the chargers you buy as a replacement. A sign of this if the charger cable gets very hot on the end closer to the port. I mean the micro usb plug itself. But thats one thing, if it isn't happening, the port could still be broken. You should go see if the port is fine. If it is, then I suspect it as a voltage issue in the house, or something. So worth checking that too. Hope you still have a guarantee on the phone. Because then they supposed to fix it no cost. You sholud try if data transfer is working through cable. If not then it shows again, port issue. If you don't want to to use the phone connected to a PC, or otherwise an easy solution could be buying a wireless charger. So then you didn't fixed the port, but the phone will be charging. But first make sure it's not the houses voltage problem, or the wallplug, because if it is, then it can ruin your wireless charger too.

Well thats not an easy one. But I don't really think that's the issue here. If she isn't living in an old house, then there is very little chance of a problem with the curcits. You should ask her if she had any random power breaks or such things in her house. Or light bulbs going wrong too fast. But as I said, I don't think thats the problem. It will be the port, I just mentioned the voltage as a possibility, and the thing what you should keep in mind.
So I suggest Her buying a wireless charger, as her phone is an S7, she can do that. But if I were in her situation I would bring it for a check to Samsung, or wherever she bought the phone (ofcourse if she still has a guarantee as I mentioned earlier). To tell the truth, as I see the problem is with the port, and depending on what you said, I don't think a home solution or buying another charger would be enough in this case.
That's why I mentioned trying wireless charging, because thats not using the port. I hope she can get the problem fixed soon. Poor girl without a phone...

Yeah, I would've sent it to warranty if she had any. She doesn't know much about phones so I feel responsible with this matter.
I think wireless charger is the best solution.

Yeah I think so too. And you know. There is the swag in that She can show to friends like: "Look my phone is charging without plugged in" or something like that.
Hope that really will help Make sure to send feedback if you fixed it somehow. I'm now planning to buy an S7, so I hope this is a one-of-a-kind problem.
Anyways Good luck really. If she buys a wireless charger make sure she is buying an original Samsung one, because that has fast charge included, and it will sure not ruin the phone.
I'm the one buying stuff here. Haha. Not interested in second hand/fake/refurbished phones.
She got the phone unsealed with "one hour use before" from a local "dealer". I don't approve this and I don't trust him. Apparently he's a good friend with some of her family's friends.
Still returning a phone after one hour of use is not something someone would do if it was working ok. He told me the other user loves Apple more.
Even though i think the other user didn't notice the voltage issue, as it took almost a year for me, until the first charger broke down.
But i prefer sealed products. Even though they don't have warranty as I flash a lot of stuff.
I'm also interested in buying an S7. I have been for the past year. But unfortunately I had to support my mom with some "donations". It's a damn good phone.
Will write here once I manage to get the Wireless Charger. Thank you for your help.

Okay so hi again! Just a quick update here. Maybe if someone reads later. So I was watching this video for fun:
There is a part of the video where he disconnects the battery. He clearly says that the micro-usb port and the wireless charging part is connected with a different cable. Thus the wireless charging still works, even if the port is broke.
I thought it was good to mention this, I was sure about this before, but here you can see clear confirmation on it. The part in question is somewhere in the middle of the video.
So if you manage to screw up your port, wireless charging will be still functional for sure!
