Sensation 1.2, 1.5GHz core clocks ; Manufacturing - HTC Sensation

Alright. This question is mainly in regard to manufacturing. Don't have too much knowledge when it comes to the manufacturing of our wonderful hardware in the computing world, which is why i'm hoping someone will clear this up for me.
Now, the Qualcomm 8260 found in the HTC Sensation for example. There are two versions. One with a clock of 1.2GHz, and another @ 1.5. Do they do ANYTHING at all in the factory to the CPU with the higher clockrate? Anything at all to compensate for the fact that it's higher? Or are they both built to a same, certain standard so longevity/durability is out of the question with the extra 300MHz?
I am asking mainly because i am about to get an HTC Sensation. What i want to know is; if i get the lesser of the two (1.2GHz), will I be able to simply overclock it to 1.5GHz, and will it not have any detrimental effects? Assuming aformentioned manufacturing is out of the question, and all they do is raise the clock rate via software, which is basically what i want to do, assuming i get the one with the 1.2GHz CPU...I hope that wasn't confusing...

I am currently overclocking my sensation beyond 1.7GHz and running stable. The CPU in this device is the exact same chip out of the XE and the Amaze. The manufacturers underclocked the processor at the kernel level from 1.512GHz down to 1.2/1.18GHz. Perfectly safe to overclock it provided you use a kernel that supports it.

Awesome, good to hear, although i wasnt worried whether it would be able to handle. I am worried about the CPU itself, and what they do in the factory. But based on what you've said, im assuming they just bump drop the Clock freq. via software in the factory, and both chips in 4G and XE are identical in terms of manufacture process? I'll automatically assume it's a yes, since it's intended to be 1.5 as you said, correct? Which means a 4g O/C'd to 1.5 will have no problems whatsoever with the o/c to 1.5?
I still need someone someone to give me a nice, resounding "yes" ...Im very paranoid...
Anyhow...Will look forward to overclock mine once it comes, any day now...Then again, not really...Since it seems a bit...Well, frustrating...Better not be too time-consuming...Or i think i'll faint at my computer... HAHA...I'll definately need help with this one. Just need to find the right ROM...Is it?
"Perfectly safe to overclock it provided you use a kernel that supports it." Yeah...Well, im not really overclocking it, the way i see it, more like giving it the clock freq. it deserves/should be at.

Yeah, the core clock is controlled through the Kernel in the ROM. I am not sure why HTC decided to pull the CPU down like this, maybe to prevent temperature issues or so the device wouldn't compete with the Amaze they released shortly afterwards. If you compare the chip set information between the 4G and the XE you will be surprised by the similarities. The 4G can even produce SRS surround and Beats audio (when unlocked in a custom ROM), which was a few of the selling points for the XE over the normal Sensation....*snicker...*
As for temperature/overheating issues, if I can run my 4G at 1.7GHz and stay below 30C, I don't think you will have a problem at 1.5. For a ROM, I suggest giving your device "the works..." it will be a time consuming process, but well worth it in the end.
Bootloader unlock, S-OFF, SuperCID, 4ext Recovery Touch, Updated ICS firmware, and a nice ROM like OpenSensation (takes all the Sense crap out and gives you the true ICS experience the way it was meant to be), or Android Revolution HD, which still has all the Sense framework and other extra stuff stuck on it, but with performance tweaks. Both ROMs have O/C enabled Kernels, and I would suggest using No-Frills CPU Control for overclocking (and while you're at it, change the Scheduler to 'noop'. You will get a nice performance boost from that too).

Eerr...Im not gonna lie, half the stuff you mentioned; i have no idea what you're talking about . However,i have already looked into Android Revolution HD. How about the former, though? Why the dislike for this "ICS", whatever it is. Be aware that i have NO idea how to mod a mobile device, at all. This is all new to me. While i've done pretty extensive work on PCs, this whole mobile...Community is new to me
Basically, all i want is the true 1.5GHz clock given back to the processor, and of course the battery usage optimizations of Android Revolution HD. That sounds nice, too... .
Now, going back to the chipsets you mentioned in the Sensation. You said there are "similarities" ...I was expecting them to be identical. I thought the XE was just a Sensation with a higher clock frequency, had that ibeats software/jag on it; which i don't care for to be honest, and lesser network performance (from all the research i've done about the 4G).
They actually differ? I even just got an Email from an HTC rep yesterday as a matter of fact, and even he told me there is little difference between the phones, most notably the 300MHz bump in freq.

You might have taken my post the wrong way, ICS is Android 4.0, code named Ice Cream Sandwich, ICS for short. Android 4 is the best version of Android yet, it is HTC Sense that I dislike...it is bloatware in the opinion of the collective dev community here. Google developed ICS, and they did an amazing job of it. To layer a large amount of bloatware (sense UI) on top of it is atrocious. Vorbeth and the CyanogenMod team are hard at work getting CyanogenMod 9 fully functioning for the Sensation (CyanogenMod is the single most popular ROM out of ALL Android devices, and CM9 is stock Google ICS with added features and improvements). Take a look at a picture of the Sensation's user interface and compare it to the pictures I attached below. That is a screenshot of my device running OpenSensation...it is all up to personal preference.
Also, I was pointing out that the two devices, the 4G and the XE almost are identical except for the color scheme and the kernel/ROM, and the HSDPA+ antennas.

[INFO] htc pyramid ...

The HTC Pyramid, a 4.3 inch device that will be powered by a 1.2GHz processor<not dualcore> has shown itself on the internet again. In addition to this, the device will have 768MB of RAM along with an 8MP rear and 1.3MP front facing camera on board. The rear of the device shows Google branding, but lacks the "with HTC Sense" that we are used to seeing on these devices, and the device is said to be running Android 3.0, Honeycomb. Now, we are unsure of the truth behind all these specs, but we sure do hope that HTC will confirm all of this for us next week at CTIA

Until HTC invents a larger battery it will not be able to offer dual-core.
Yes they will. Dual core phones use less power because they can turn off 1 core and use less power than any other phone with 1 single core. When the dual core does kick in it probably means the phone is on a 100% load or so, which means that any phone would use a lot of power. The difference is not as big as you would think.
There are rumors that this phone will have a dual core processor.
That article does not state that the pyramid is not dual core. It neither confirms nor denies the number of cores. There are other rumoured specs out there which suggest it will be a dual core snapdragon. Just google it.
Given the fact that competitors have released dual cores, htc will wish to follow suit. Not doing so will cost them market share.
If the other part of the article is true and it shall be another google nexus then that will be truly interesting. I wonder if they will also release a similar spec sense phone in the fashion of the nexus one and desire. If so it will be hard for me to look past the nexus pyramid. It will be dev heaven as google policy is to allow the user to easily unlock the bootloader. Plus if the hardware is largely identical, it will get sense ports.

There is 1 sign that tells us it might be the new nexus, and that is the fact that it's stating Google on the back. But Another thing that nexus phones don't have, is a HTC logo on the front. So the only sign telling us it's a google phone on the back is being invalidated by the front of the phone.
I have a feeling this will be the Nexus Two (or whatever) with HTC branding on the front. The Nexus S is known everywhere as the Samsung Nexus S, so it could be a logical extension of the manufacturers branding.
It seems to make sense that the next Nexus phone would have a qHD screen, dual core CPU and be a 4.3" device, after all this is where lots of phones are going and the Nexus line is meant to offer some sort of reference design.
After the Nexus S, which I am now selling so I can keep my Desire HD, I would welcome a Nexus phone from HTC again.
As for the OS, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an Android Honeycomb for phones version (which could be a 3.x or 2.4 or something else) and this device launches that version. I cant help but remember that the HTC Passion name was rumoured for months before the Nexus One came out, this device may not be out for months yet....
On the other hand, this could be all be fake. Or the Desire HDS or something...
HTC Pyramid is dual-core. But it falls behind Atrix and LG 2x in graphic and performance tests.

2. Tegra2 (Geforce ULV)
3. Mali400 (Samsung's)
4. Adreno 220

That new PowerVR SGX543MP2 is a BEAST!! Have you guys seen the benchmarks compared to the Tegra 2? It annihilates it.
As for the Pyramid. It does have a dual core. The recent benchmarks with the Adreno 220 are not accurate because release is still ways off and drivers are still maturing. Give it time. btw this phone looks absolutely stunning! Best looking device i've seen honestly.
edit: speaking of unreleased htc phones, have you guys seen the HTC Inspire? Sure it's Windows Mobile 7 but the design is also jaw dropping.

It's safe to say by now Tegra2 CPU owns Snapdragon 1.2

I have owned the G2X & Sensation also Atrix My sensation is by far the best looking device ever now before the Sensation got S-off I would find myself saying boy you just wait until we get roms this thing will fly like my g2x its funny boy was I wrong. I'm on the Senseless v1.2 Custom kernel and the Sensation is very fast now but still not on my g2x speed so I think its safe to say the Tegra2 is pretty much a better faster CPU period now I'm hoping and praying the upcoming roms and kernels prove me and US all wrong but as of now custom roms and s-off had done nothing to bring out this beast my Ayrix is now hitting 3700 quadrants. Time well let us know
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
If you're using quadrant as evidence to prove that Tegra 2 is actually faster, you're standing on thin ice. Quadrant can easily be skewed with a few modifications.
I'm using the stick ROM with ADW EX and my Sensations UI is as fast as my G2X. I can also say that my Sensation has always been faster at opening and interacting with apps such as Google Maps which loads a lot faster on my Sensation. When it cones to the web browser there both eveb in terms of loading pages but my Sensation scrolls smoother. I actually like the looks of the G2X better but I mainly use the Sensation due to it loading and interacting with apps faster.
Just for information, my G2X is bug free.
Another piece of information. I have seen a difference with speed in the 4 Sensations I've used. I really don't know what it is but the second one I had was slow as hell. You must have a bad one because the Sensation should load stuff faster than the G2X.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Why are there dozens of posts like this everyday?
Does it matter? Does seeing another phone with more powerful SoC immediately kill the battery of yours? Does having a faster SoC get you laid? Why does Quadrant matter? Does your phone require you to finish a Quadrant run before you can answer your phone everytime it rings? Because Quadrant is hardly a benchmark. Does your phone run slower than the G1? Does the Atrix run so much faster than the Sensation that makes it feels like a Razor? If yes, why bother, just dump the Sensation and use the Atrix. If no, why bother, since both phones are fast enough for everything a normal human would do on a phone for now.
Back to your question. No. First of all, Tegra 2 is not a CPU. It's a system on a chip (SoC). The processor cores in Tegra 2 are Cortex A9, and yes, they are more advance than the Scorpion cores in the Snapdragon, which falls roughly between Cortex A8 and A9. So CPU raw power alone, the Tegra 2 should be faster except in a few situations, because Scorpion's strength is floating point calculation and the Cortex A9 in Tegra 2 (but not necessarily other Cortex A9 SoC) lacks the NEON instruction sets.
I'd also like to add that you are comparing our performance to devices that have had more time for development and improvements. Give it time. The sensation devs will do their thing and although they might not be able to close the gap completely, I have faith that they will get us close.

well the g2x is stockish android gingerbread which is fast.
The sensation has a ton of bloat with sense 3.0
When CM7 is optimized, the sensation will edge out the g2x.

No it won't. The a9 is just a better architecture. More cache, shorter pipeline, more efficient memory usage etc. If you overclock the scorpion 25% or so vs a9 it might be able to catch up. Amd and Intel had done research and they found that it doesn't make sense to use asynchronous cores as in most real world cases it didn't yield better battery life. They found it was better to use power gating to save power. Unfortunately qualcomm is company that makes majority of its net income from 20 year old patents so it is no surprise they made questionable decisions. They sunk all this money into the scorpion architecture and they have to use it as long as they did due to sunk costs. However Nvidia screwed up to not having 1080hp decoder or neon. At least I thought the adreno 220 would be a beast, but It doesn't seem to be much better than the 2 year old overclocked sgx540 on omap4430.
However I didn't buy the sensation just because of its SOC, but it is just a solid phone in terms on construction and you know xda will support it, and it isn't slow either. I wish HTC would switch to a better soc, but they are tied with qualcomm at the hip.
First off I own both phones... My wife's G2x is faster, but it's running stock android. Every phone I've ever owned running Sense is slower than stock Android...
It's not really comparable until we have a stock build of android running on the Sensation. Then compare.

The next generation of Qualcomm CPUs are coming soon and those will move from Scorpion to Krait. The Krait is based off of the A15 architecture from what I've read.
Heh, my Samsung Galaxy S II is better than your Sensation, G2x, or Atrix. Got Quadrant scores of 4k. Run Quadrant 3 times to see accurate score. Oh yeah I underclocked it too to 1GHZ. You won't find another fine device like this phone. Running on Revolution rom with bloatware removed.

Firstly, OP's English is terrible. No offence, but I had to put into notepad and punctuate it, just to understand what you were saying.
Secondly: the Sensation is on Sense, which definitely slows this phone done. I'd go as far as saying CM7 will be anything up to 2x as fast as Sense is.

More likely looking for an ego boost because his phone gets better results on a benchmarking tool that's severely outdated.
Dude, here is a sensible test.
1:- install a vanilla ROM on all phones
2:- get all devices to use the same resolution
3:- get a sensible graphics test app like nenamark 2
4:- test the devices and check the score.
This is the only way u will have to test.which phone is better or which processor is better

[Q] Why isn't Optimus 3D as supported as Samsung Galaxy S2?

So, LG offers us a 2 yrs warranty, even if we root our amazing smartphone.
Samsung does not.
Everyone knows Optimus 3d has got better processor, but it still lags with every rom you actually put on it.
Also SGS2 has got very good hardware, but it's supported moooooore than our LG smartphone.
Why this?
What's wrong on our O3D??
It's just been released in USA as the Thrill.
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk
What are you talking about? LG O3D has been relased in the same SGS2 countries
the gs2 had from the start on a very huge dev community because of the sg1 and the other galaxy smartphones...
i think it only takes some time to get great devs for this phone
i currently have a galaxy 3 but i ordered the o3d and i can't wait to hold it in my hands!!
Because sgs2 is more popular than o3d
Sent from my LG-P920 using Tapatalk
@deox91: I had a sgs2 before having the o3d... I'd come back without any doubt
@dexxxterek: sure, it's popular, but how's it possible there isn't any unofficial (downloadable) gingerbread-based cooked rom (like happened with optimus 2x)? there isn't a decent kernel which fixes lags, there are no decent roms... nothing of nothing!
Gingerbread o3d update should be released in october, yes, but Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon....

Actually, it does.
In terms of performance, OMAP4 is better.
On the S2, Exynos was just overclocked, but when both are at 1ghz, OMAP4 is better.
I've underclocked my SGS2 to 1 Ghz to test benchmarks and it still does better than OMAP4. And for real world performance, I underclock my SGS2 to 800mhz (to save battery) and notice no difference between it and 1.2Ghz.
Maybe you don't know, but Cyanogen is working for Samsung, and he's help is invaluabe ;]

I believe reason for that is the 2.2 vs 2.3 argument.
One has better dual core support and one... =/ well everyone knows the answer to that one. So just trying to tell you that underclocking one to 1ghz while its on 2.3 and the other is running 2.2 still doesn't say which is the better processor.
Also, benchmark results are very subjective to many things. I highly doubt you would have the exact same things running on both devices when you ran the tests. Even if the apps are the same, the stock apps that comes with the devices and other factors also affect the results. For example, I'm on stock rom and a very heavy user. Quadrant gives me a score of 2138. Yet, real performance is still much better than you would expect.

I really doubt that GB will bring significantly better performance. Its all about optimizing the drivers to which Samsung did VERY well (compare Debut GS2 to a Released GS2). OMAP4 has a lot of potential imo, but I'll guess we'll see in the future with updates or the Nexus Prime.

Even if the apps are the same, the stock apps that comes with the devices and other factors also affect the results. For example, I'm on stock rom and a very heavy user. Quadrant gives me a score of 2138. Yet, real performance is still much better than you would expect.

We were talking about which processor was better, right? I don't know how else you can determine that besides benchmarks.

If you don't believe it, I can't change your mind.
We will see.
What performance boost does GB have? I remember Froyo had JIT but I don't recall anything like that being in GB.
Yes, but my aim wasn't to start a discussion about which processor is the best...
My aim was to let people able to do this, think about developing more on our amazing device.. :\
Gingerbread is faster... I have an SE X10-
From using highly customized froyo Roms to the bloated, stock gingerbread was a massive speed shift, and then once the custom Roms came out it was like having a whole new phone.
I'm here because my contract is up in a few months and I'm considering getting this phone, actually it's a toss-up between this and the SGS2.

Not true at all.
I have an SE X10 as well for a year and half now. The stock 2.3 ROM is A LOT slower than any custom 2.2 ROMs.
Only massively tweaked 2.3 ROMs like Wolfbreak or Trip's MIUI ROMs are fast. The stock 2.3 ROM is so slow and laggy.
I found it faster than scramble...

I was correcting the statement you made in the OP with the intent to answer the question you asked in the Title.
I also want more devs to develop for the O3D and a LOT less devs to develop for the SGS2 (there are 2 freaking sections for development).

Benchmark shock

Hi all
My wife (iPhone 4 user ) mailed me this link today and I must say I'm shocked ... it seems, in some respects, even the iPhone 3GS walks all over the Sensation ... how is this possible?
http://www.redmondpie.com/iphone-4s...-as-galaxy-s-ii-and-all-other-android-phones/
gpu in snapdragon soc's will never be as good as the SGX gpu in Apple phones.
even the Samsung Mali GPU is faster then Adreno 250.
Sadly HTC is Snapdragon only so unless Qualcomm improve it a lot HTC phones will always lag behind in benchmarks but benchmarks are not everything.
One more thing that should be taken in consideration is that Apple designs their hardware and software which means it is optimized for dual-cores.
When we get Ice Cream Sandwich is when we will get real dual-core support and be able to use the full power of our phones.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Just ran these benchmarks myself and it looks a lot better than they make it seem, sure I'm an update up from their benchmark Sensation, but technically iOS 5 is newer than Android 2.3 anywayso it's negligible.I would like to see how Ice Cream Sandwich will compare to the 4GS (iOS 5).
Sunspider - 3532
Browsermark - 56065
In iPhone it is used in games only but generaly the IOS is very boaring, Android is much better.
the nexus one is faster than the sensation
Personally, I don't think its that the GPU is bad, it should be better than the mali400 by quite a bit in theory ( look at the Qualocomm reference board @1.5GHz, beats everything by a nice margin ) It's just that the kernel and driver software is ****.

My scores are:
SunSpider - 2444 ms
Browsermark - 7900
Don't believe this stock using benchmark. I'm sure that SGS2 can do better as well.
Just ran the tests and got
Sunspider 1844 opera
Browsermark 43865 opera, and using the standered browser 71114
Not really a good test as its browser inflorescenced.

Come on guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know Apple is best at MARKETING!!!!!
1) APPLE IPHONE 4S PROPAGANDA, that can be seen on many website for a few days
2) THE REALITY, my HTC Sensation running ARHD 3.6.2 with bricked kernel , at 1.72 ghz (my max is 1.78)
with CPU1 forced online, I hit about 60000 at stock 1.2ghz CPU speed
Some will say i've always hated Apple's marketing, already fighting Apple fanboys in early 2009 with my Samsung Omnia i900 and FpseCE...
....well...that's true
EDIT: same config, I do 2664 at Sunspider, so just behind the iphone 4S, and GLbenchmark refuses to compute my score, saying my GL drivers are modified!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Preventing people who use custom ROMS, kernels or drivers is an easy way to win! (I mean, I was not cheating using Chainfire3D drivers to reduce textures or anything!)
Apple sucks!
thats the problem, all these benchmarks doesn't support what our devices (beast) has. so, it always end up like that. but, mind you. on sensation, it has the 2.3.3 version and with that and all the crap on stock, its really gonna be slow
Here what I got on my stock sensation these results are definately bias for the iPhone release =\ I mean I'm sure its a impressive piece of hardware but I doubt its that much better than other phones out on the market now

Lol, there's no way the PowerVR SGX535 is faster than the Adreno 220. It's just iOS is way more optimized than Gingerbread + Sense 3.0 ...
The Snapdragon S4 SoCs should blow everything away when they come out, though.

You can't compare an overclocked phone running god knows which kernel (It's easy to cheat by optimizing the kernel for specific benchmarks) with a stock phone running at stock speeds. That doesn't make any sense.
It's like trying to prove that Toyota is faster than a Lexus by strapping a jet engine on to the Toyota: Unfair, irrelevant and proves nothing: Except that a Toyota with a jetengine strapped on to it iis faster than a Lexus...
So yeah, the iPhone 4S does beat whatever HTC has out by a significant margin even. I have an Evo3D and a SGSII and it is pretty annoying that the HTC is so poorly optimized. Time for HTC to lock some engineers in a basement, and not let them out until they modified Sense to be as fast as iOS...

Of course we can! That's why we have an Android and not an iphone: we can customize and improve it as far as we can, that's the point here.
But even with a stock ROM, bloatwares removed, at 1.2ghz, we reach 60000 at browsermark, so Apple is clearly posting fake figures here.
Don't wait for HTC to solve your problems man, go for a custom ROM and a custom kernel, the Sensation has good hardware inside, you should try using it decently.
PS: my kernel is Bricked kernel from Show-p, you can't say it's "god knows which kernel"
Wouldnt screen size make a difference as well?
I've read an article about s2 and 4s benches. Basically, sw runs differently, Android does something vertically as well, when iphone doesn't, so you could double Android point to actually show the true value. I'll try to dig that article.

Chinese phones with android

Hi everyone,
i want you to tell me if you have a chinese phone (with android of course) and what do you think about this, i mean:
chinese phones costs much less in comparison to other brand phones, and very often chinese phones have great hardware, for example my phone have 1ghz dual core processor, 8mpx (real) camera, 4.3 inch screen, and lots of other things.
i paid it around 150-200 euros (it was a gift). i don't know really how much i had to pay if it was samsung or other.
but the problems arrives with software: mine has android 2.3.5, there are some chinese app that i can't delete, absolutely no updates.
and the biggest problem: the root. it's a kind impossible to root my phone. i have the t9199+, i tried with z4root, superoneclick, gingerbreak, it doesn't work. there is a guide here in a forum but the links are broken and i'm waiting for the user to give new links. hoping he will be online soon.
so, why if this phones have great hardware everyone prefers to buy samsung or lg or others phones? (also i do, i have other phones, 3 nokia, 1 blackberry and 2 lg)
why software developers don't do anything for this phones?
lots are similar and with similar hardware so i think that the root can be possible with every phone if tested on one.
well tell me your opinion about this phones, why people don't buy it, why developers don't develope for it, and if you have a method how to root my divice (i'm sure it's not in the right section for this last question and i think nobody will reply to that but hope is the last to die LOL)
Nick
I once bought a phone from China, it was suppose to be Iphone 3g. Got the phone, was using windows mobile with a little bit of apple os. Camera was 1.3mp although it said on the box and around the camera 5mp. NO 3g network only edge. 4.3inch screen did not have multi touch. Take a pic with your phone and then check the details of the pick under resolution and post your pixel size. Also the real brand phones has HD recording.

well it's true, chinese copies of iphones or samsung or other phones are very poor.
i think anyway that android can't lie, so if in the settings of the camera is written 8mpx/5mpx and other options, it's true.
i have a doubt about the processor but without root i don't know how can i know what processor it have. but using the phone, i think is a good processor, never lags, the phone became hot when playing or webbing but it's good. do you know how can i know what processor it have?
the camera, trust me, it's 8mpx. yes it's not a good 8mpx but photos are quite good.
It is not hard to make the info state it has something when it doesn't. I can make your phone state it is connected at 10g or that it has a 5gh processor.
One of the biggest issues with china bases phones is that they don't run official software. Take yours for instance. If you look at Google source code page you will not find android 2.3.5. This is also the reason for your issues with root. China based phones have a lot of recoding that makes alot of things not work with them as they don't understand the OS version.

generally, chinese phones are very very poor. its rare to find a good chinise phone
recently , chinese phone become popular in several countries, include mines.
its right to think, when you buy android phone, you have to know how to root it. if you dont know how to root your phone. try some other phone similiar to yours. for example the variant, or model, because sometimes, several brand would use the same hardware then they repack it with their brand.
and its also helpful, when you try to search the tips over china's phone development site. just translate it to your language.
hope this tips will help......

Pics taken with your phone should have in the details 3264x1840 pixels. It may read so in settings but try to copy the pics to pc and checking details there. You,re right but I think that phones does not have hardware and software support, so if you want one of those, first of all make sure you can get a compatible battery for your device after 4years and update your android os. for example I bought a cheap chinese tablet but its original gingerbread rom could not be updated until now.
As in most cases, you get what you pay for.
Apple is, of course the exception to that rule, but if you pay too little as happens with the Chinese knock-offs, they bite you later on.

Now correct me if im wrong but my old samsung galaxy ace,. and my wifes samsung galaxy s2 both had 2.3.5 and were official. Its is also listed on googles pages???
Huawei u8800 is good but it lacks software support :/
Not so bad.
The quality level of Chinese phones has gone up quickly in the last few years, and it seems that Android might have something to do with it. Now we don't have to worry about some weird and wonky OS on our phones. Hardware-wise, it seems that they are getting better as well. I speak from experience because I bought an Android phone recently and it seems to be a rock-solid piece of machinery (so far).
Now, if you go and buy something that is being marketed as a knock-off, you get what you pay for. But if you get something that's "this is our Android/Win phone, we're not trying to scam you" then you should be okay. Ainol's a Chinese company and they make a fine tablet.
I'm in China so it was easy for me to just go down the street and check some of them out. Buying online might be a bit more of a problem. It's true that you're not going to get the post-sale support.
My one problem: finding out what hardware my phone has so I can mod it.
never buy china phones.
Did some research and just bought the THL w5 from their own wholesaler.
They're a brand that are trying to sell internationally, and are actually doing a pretty great job of selling standup hardware.
They're also constantly updating and bugfixing on even their legacy devices
