Some one tell me how to update to the picture attached without loosing my current root
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
You have to have a pretty-much rock-stock ROM for this update to work. You could just install attn1's version of the stock ROM with this update already applied, then properly rooted and packaged for installation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058042
After installing, the update screen will show that you are up to date.

Since Gene has graciously answered your question, may I remind you that this is one of the most common questions asked, over and over. Please do a little searching first.
Thanks!

That is how flash attn1 rom. I think you might have misunderstood. He meant that you could go back to stock stock and apply it. Because if your rooted it will fail to install OR. Apply attn1 rom.

Attn1's ROM is flashed in hboot because it includes a radio. It is the ota update your phone is trying to get, but with root. He also has one in that same thread with sideloading enabled.

i really dont get why it bothers some people so much, they respond to threads saying use the search button, people ask it alot. U dont have to respond to the post to begin with, alot of people do though, and with the same effort used to say use the search button, u could have just as easily answered the question.
Best part is if u dont want to answer it because you think they were to lazy to search it gets buried pretty quick.

its probably because to newer users, its a little intimidating to go thru many posts and threads, and they also know some info could be outdated. Maybe on the site, there should be an official, updated "how to" glossary or wiki.

I'll tell you why....
Because the question was already answered for one thing.
It's also forum rules, and I've seen it mentioned by Mods a million times.
Community moderation...I let people know in the hopes of breaking a habit before it starts: posting a new thread for every single question that crosses their mind, and, eventually, expect to be given answers to everything, getting even more reluctant to do the "work" of finding answers and learning about their phones on their own.
Next thing you know, we're up to our necks in duplicate posts. Then, NOBODY will want to answer ANYTHING, because they have to wade through 4 tons of duplicate crap, and it ain't worth it.
How hard is it to Google "inspire OTA update root" ?

As to the last question: speaking for myself, I am tempted to just ask question, not because I can't effin search, but some of my questions, one has to weed through all manner of material on multiple threads, some pertinent, some not, since February to ascertain "the" answer. This is all well and good and maybe an exercise in disciple, like back in school or something, but maybe some of us just get impatient in an effort to save time. That said, I am fully on board with the forum rules, because da rules are da rules, and this is where one has to come for this sort of stuff :-D.

Oh I agree. Everyone has questions, and everyone has opinions. There are often times wrong/incomplete answers to things, and both yes and no to the same question.
It's not necessarily easy to parse through and distill all of this stuff. But it can be done. I often times run across answers that go both ways, and that can be unsettling, especially if it involves potentially bricking a device if you get it wrong.
It's just a question of analysis, and I concede some people are more comfortable doing it than others. I guess I never expected to be handed all of the answers to basic questions.
I've always preferred searching over posting in asking a question, as it usually always provides the answer *quicker* than waiting for someone to post back an answer to the question.
Not to mention, if it turns out it was a much easier answer to find than first apparent, or that it was one's own oversight responsible for a problem that motivated the question, one can bypass getting antagonized by jerks like me.

Yes this. Exactly. 10 words.
Scott, why must you pretend to be GOD in these forums which you clearly aren't....if the guy wants to ask, let him ask...the search feature in this forum sucks anyways, so i would of done the same exact thing. don't like reading something that is redundant, then go grab the book War and Peace and entertain yourself. I am sure that by the time you are done with it, all items here would be OUTDATED and you will have no choice but to ask questions yourself, which is where i would answer you back with this:

I'm not pretending anything. Searching before posting is forum rules, often cited by mods. I happen to feel it's important enough to remind people, and I'm not the only one. It's called community moderation.
No, a lot of stuff does NOT get outdated. Some do, like radio flashing and not needing eng s-off, but others don't, or haven't yet and don't look like they're going to.
For example, rooting remains the same basic process as when it started. One of two methods are available, and likely there won't be any new ground-breaking discoveries, at least for a while. Maybe it will change in the future, but it hasn't yet.
Another example... Until someone makes ATT want to push their otas to rooted devices, the process by which to update one's rooted phone with those OTA updates will remain the same. Etc....
And Google works just fine, better than the built-in search function of many sites.
Saying "I can't search because search sux" is a cop-out, plain and simple.

Umm, no. At least not on the full site. If you look right above the forum frames (up, up a little more, no down, yeah, there, on the right) you'll see the search you should be using. It searches recursively from wherever you are. Forum home? Searches the whole board. Inspire home? Searches the whole Inspire board. Inspire Dev? Yep, just the dev section. It goes clear down to searching within a thread. Hardly sucky.
I have been rooted for about a month now and have flashed several custom roms but am now back at the stock rooted rom desiring the latest at&t ota update. I read earlier in this thread that because I'm already rooted the update won't install. My question is can I just flash the attn1 rom even though I rooted my device using bubby's root method?

It should work fine. All attn1's ROM needs is s-off. Bubby's give you that.
I'm not positive but I think att1 updated rooted stock rom w/sideloading is in the form of pd98img.zip file which u need to put on on your SD card but not in a folder. Then turn off fastboot in settings, power off your phone, then while holding down the vol down button push your power button. The phone should boot into hboot where it will search for the pd98img for a few seconds then ask you to update. Once it's done you can reboot & delete the file off your SD card cause it's around 300 or so mb. Once your all done with that you also might want to get the matching ril file for the new radio that's in the update which you can flash in cwr.

Ok, well I have completely jacked up my phone from where I updated using Odin..I flashed my phone through a vibrant rom or whatever and now it was in t-mobile, then I flashed it through a fasinate rom or whatever and now its in version. I am looking for the original Samsung Galaxy S Showcase rom or whatever I need to get my phone back to CS and to its orginal state. Can somebody help me?
Check your PM
And don't EVER flash ROMs for other phones.
Seriously? What is it about showcase users that they think they can flash whatever the hell they want and there won't be problems?

I am not posting random ****, I thought the post was funny, so I responded as such. I shouldn't have mentioned the part about the spam but whatever.
And in response to the comment about why people install ROM's for other phones, yea it's not necessarily smart to do so, but for the most part these forums are not exactly noobie friendly . . .
I am not new to the world of linux, I have been a user of various distros on my personal machines and work servers since 2006. I am coming from the world of webOS, where I did a little development in my sparse spare time, webOS had a lot of promise, but did not have the community nor the rapid pace of development that android has, so I finally switched.
I have found that, through no intentional fault of the community members here, entry into the world of Android homebrew has been somewhat intimidating, mainly because of the terminology that you all use. I have looked, but still don't know what many of the acronyms stand for. It has a high "entry cost," which it probably should otherwise you would have every joe schmoe trying to flash their phones with various experimental roms. (well apparently they do that anyway) But perhaps a glossary of terms could be helpful somewhere for those of us that got to the party late but could still be of some help once we catch up).
And to the guy who started this thread: don't do something until you have read about it sufficiently enough to be sure that it will work. Going backwards is often alot more difficult than spending the time to do it right in the first place. I have learned this lesson the difficult way a number of times (I am not the most prudent person with stuff, i like to shoot from the hip and have shot myself in the foot a number of times)
So a glossary similar to this which is stickied in this thread?

I kind of like the fact that these forums are not dumb down it makes the learning curve steeper but I learn more that way not just the hows but also the whys. I spent two months reading this and other forums before I flashed my first ROM. I find the things I work the hardest for I learn the best and all the information is here sometimes you just have to dig for it. IMHO like
That's the spirit! Look at you! Nub of the year!
I was the same way honestly. I was very hesitant before ever doing anything to my phone first time around.
Haha its a first with android! I am more along the lines of coding firmware for PSN and jtagging xbox 360 consoles! I am a nub at this haha
I am in the same boat
I did the same thing to my showcase with the exception that I downloaded (from a different forum) learned my lesson, a odin file that was listed for cellular south showcase and when I flashed it it turned out to be for a Tmobile vibrant and now I only get errors when the modem bin tries to load in oden. Kinda hosed at this point!
Any Ideas on this would me much appreciated!!!

gotta love the stupid tax. The file was titled correctly just did not turn out to be what it stated. Oh well thanks anyway!
Hopefully this isn't a foolish question. Why are there do many modem files exist per android phone? especially when each phone only gets 1 or 2 firmware updates?

Ok for example we have 2 carriers and each of them release 2 updates + 1 factory rom for each carrier.
Each carrier writes modem code designed with their specific network and politics in mind.
The modem is a software as any and it is'nt perfect from start, so they update it with the rom with various fixes & optimisations.
Sometimes the modem is "perfect" but the rom update needs code to be changed/added to the modem..
This adds upp to 6 modems already,.
You should read all the stickies before doing anything more.
Because they are there to explain things and to help you.
And when you understand things you are confident about what you're doing.

So I say, not really. Obviously there are more official radios than leaked ones.

@zelendel is a Moderator on the forum and is far more tolerant than I am. I said that if you were serious you should search. The first rul of XDA (read them if you haven;t done so before) is to "Search before asking anything". This question has been asked many times, sometime by noobs, sometimes by trolls, so the answer and the reasons why not are on XDA and Google in many, many places already - starting a new thread to ask the same thing is contrary to the rules of XDA and, to be honest, is just ignorant and lazy as well.
While Simon is correct about searching. I will break it down the best I can. The device is just not compatable with android. All the bootloaders are locked down tighter then fort knox. The kindle that you mentioned is based off of linux like android is. The iphone will never be allowed to run anything other then apples software.

You are more then welcome to ask question, but please understand that this is a developers site. Alot of the questions most new users have already have been asked a few hundred times. So searching first will most likely save you time and frustration. So of the people here are a bit short but that is due to people thinking we are a support site. This is the furtherest from the truth. So my advice would be to search and read. Things will come to you in time. You will also notice how the same questions are asked over and over again. After some time this will start to annoy you as well when you are looking for info and you have to read over hundreds of posts of the same question.
I will close this for you as you can not close or delete any threads. Even ones you make.
So it looks like both the Xperia and Galaxy dudes can enjoy unlocked LTE bands on their Qualcomm powered phones. I found this tutorial here
I was able to go through the entire tutorial. The problem is that upon reboot the settings will revert back to their original parameters.
Has anyone have successfully unlock world LTE bands on the LG D820..?
Also while trying to backup the original configuration of my phone using the QPST tool, my Nexus asks for an "SPC" unlock code which i do not know what it is... The software fails to retrieve the dump because of lack of this code.... does anyone know how to retrieve this code from the phone..? i sure do not know what it is...

All the threads i have found so far as in regards to what works out of the box in other areas... modem flashes and so on... nothing proactive like the threads i have found in other forums..... There are Chinese dudes using their D820 in china right now...? how do i know..? i got results through Google in Chinese. The problem is that when you push those sites through translate, they dont make any sense. Furthermore, illustration materials posted are all in Chinese since they are graphics..... But really nothing in regards to how to unlock Qualcomm devices for other LTE bands... there is a difference... It may seem to you that they are the same but the questions are NOT.... i have posted the threads so that you can perhaps put down the sniper rifle and do some clicking... and read..!!!! nothing more..! if you have heard or read anything, awesome..! post it...! if you haven't then perhaps this would be an opportunity to check out these threads.

You seem to be ignoring the facts. There are threads here discussing modifying the LTE bands at length. No one here, on XDA has managed to unlock, activate or add LTE bands to the nexus 5. I know this because I've ready every single thread in the nexus 5 forum about LTE bands. I've read every answer and read every link similar too those that you posted today. No one here has done it. I've told you this no less than 3 times now.

all right.... like i said! i have successfully rewritten the NV Bands String from stock to one that supports European bands. It loads it in memory and it seems to work well switching from Edge to HSPA+ very quickly unlike the stock string that took for ever to do the same switching.... haven't tested LTE because there is none in my area.... the problem is that upon new NV bands strings gets overwritten by the default string and the problem ensues... i will try to head on to Regensburg tomorrow and test

The amount of threads that have been created just for this silly thing.. Seriously, I don't see why. People should just get the right model, or get a different device.
