Minor Issues?! - Samsung Galaxy R i9103

Hello guys!
To being with a small introduction about me, as this is my first post on this forum
-
I am a new member for this forum! But certainly not a new one for the android world. This is my third droid, previously i have used Galaxy Ace and Galaxy S.
I am a student, and i love exploring new features on android. I am an app explore and i think i will soon start trying my hand on few rom developments! ( I will be getting a 5 months vaction! )
I would promise that i will be one of the active members from now on!
Coming to the device, i have it for the last few months now.. but started facing some minor problems! Wonder if anyone else have the same..
1 . When i play games for a while, my device heats up and i thought since this is summer, my body temperature might be the reason. But, i think i am wrong.. as the device heats up when i connect my phone to charger for a recharge! Wonder if someone has been facing this? Is it a software issue?
I am on 2.3.5 Official Indian Stock!
2. This is a weird problem!!! When i try to un-install any application ( By going to the main application menu >>>> then press edit and then touch the app and un-install method ) here, the app which i touch does not get un-installed and the app next to it gets un-installed! And trust me, i am not pressing the wrong app!!
And the best part of my device is, previous all my devices needed a restart after about 250 hours! It would have had some problem like wifi not switching on or some thing else and a restart would fix it. But my R has been running for more than 800 hours without a switch off and it really amazes me! But i am loving it!
And once again HELLO TO ALL MY NEW FRIENDS! would love to work with you all for the development of this amazing device!

1. Heating problem is common with all the devices nothing to worry about it, if you are using any covers on you phone remove it because when i was using mine with Silicon case it was becoming very heat at the time of the charging and playing games, now i've removed it and my phone is ok.
2. May be some problem with S/W try Factory Rest and clear the cache, if it is not solving the issue try to flash the Stock Firmware again.

Heating is normal, when I plug charger my battery temp goes upto 45 to 48 degrees. And also its a dual core device so if u do heavy use it will probably get hot

Ahhhh a former Galaxy Ace user......I am not alone
Herpderp iPad2.
No I don't care if you're anti-Apple.

1. About the device heating up while charging avoid using it for doing any processor intensive tasks e.g. Gaming while charging & remove the cover/jacket as told by mj. vikram.
About the device heating up during daily use, as you told the ambient temps do play a part in increasing the temperature odd the device.
2. You can uninstall the apps from the Task Manager by going to the Downloaded tab. You should not face the problem in that menu as it had only one option i.e. 'Uninstall'
Do update here if it solves the issue.
Hope this helps.

Do a data reset for the problem with unistalling apps or try reinstalling firmware

About the heating thing, I don't use any covers, so I believe its a software problem, but will re flash ones anyways!
And yes, I am using task manger to un-install app now!
But still, the other method should work too right? Wonder what's happening? As, the app which I don't touch gets un-installed! Lol :-\

And one more thing guys, is phone heating is due to or concerned with my phone running for about 800 hours?

Are you facing this problem with only task manger or in any other application, i am asking this because if you are facing this problem with all the apps then this may be problem with your Screen guard.

Mate, what's happening is.. When I go to menu and then press edit option and then if I uninstall a app, the app next to it gets uninstalled! Trust me I am not pressing the wrong app, I touch the right app!
I can uninstall perfectly from task manager!
And as far as screen guard is concerned, I don't think its a issue because I don't face any issue while typing or while playing or while using the screen! Its just with uninstalling, as mentioned above!
Seems strange..

Ok there's an idea to check whether its a hardware problem/software problem.
Install go launcher from market then try to uninstall any app using the Go launcher by using the same edit option as in the stock launcher and uninstalling any app by clicking on it.
If all goes fine then its a software problem but if not then its a hardware problem i.e. touchscreen problem.
Do update what's the outcome.
Hope this helps.

Skyrocket lags

i have a new skyrocket , well under my 30 days they replaced it because of screen then over heating issue , this one lags , i noticed the lag mainly in the text massege app, anyone have the same issue or did i get a 3rd bad phone ? my last one lagged as well , just wanna make sure if they got a batch of bad phones?
Try flashing a custom ROM. Ive never had any lag problems.

im using stock . so in your opinion i got a bad headset ?
When I was on stock, my skyrocket was AMAZINGLY fast. I think its just you, ask for another to see how that one is.

what LAG are you speaking of.....scrolling?, Loading?, be more specific so others can say if they had/have that problem.
personally i have not seen ANY lag on this phone until i installed Go Launcher<<<
which will will cause some lag.
What I mean is a freezing when I go to my text masseges. It will lock for a second. I only have 3 apps. Nothing in the background running

may just be a glitch sort of thing......unless your last one was having the EXACT same lag with the messeging. i would say load up a ROM or even reflash the stock rom that you have and it may go away.

Thats No lag. It's take a sec or two to open. The cpu needs time to react.

2 seconds to open an app IS LAG......lol
weather its an app drawer or messaging, mine opens in just under a sec everytime..........
but im on a custom ROM and using ADW Ex.
It's not even 2 seconds. It's like it's hanging up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
Does it lag during calls and hang up?
That's so weird... as soon as I press messages, it snaps into action and is open before I can even react.
There's something obviously wrong with that one. Try rooting it and running a custom ROM, if that doesn't help, then exchange it.
No lag here.. rooted and stock rom and overclocked... Insane speed..
Well it doesn't do it all the time now. But my.original one did it too. It's way less than a second. It must of been all in my head because everything else works very fast so I think I'll wait till I see my update to the 2.3.6 & go from there.

I'll try that. Thank you very much for all the help

Problem Fixed . called texh support explained whats wrong & they were very nice even though i was over my 30 days by 3 days , they called a store went off on them because they denied me the exchange & told them to do whatever i want done because they have to make me happy . LOL so i went & said I've had it with the black one & got the white one & couldnt be happier , thank you all for all the help
i think there isn't lag but it's slower coming from an i9100.
scrolling isn't as smooth, and the messaging app is a little funky at times too.
but idk the difference is negligible they're both awesome phones
Flash Sky Ice Cream Sandwich Rom is Amazing!

Crazy Backbutton

Hello,
my Backbutton activates itself. While I am watching Videos, or whatever I do it stops shining and I am out of every application I'm using. After about half a minute it's shining again and I can use it normally. It's like pushing the button multiple times. Does anyone has an idea how to fix it? I tried different roms but it looks like an hardware failure to me.

Sending it back for support is not an option for me. I imported my device from the US to Germany. The support at Samsung Germany told me that they are not responsible for AMOLED devices.
My second problem ist that my IMEI is crashed since I flashed a rom where the dev made a little mistake. So Samsung won't give me any support.
I thought about changing the display but the price for a new one is about 190 Euro. Way too much... I can assemble and disassemble the device but I think that cleaning the device will not solve the problem.
Any suggestions?

It has nothing to do with the display though.
That's likely the part failing:

http://stellatech.com/samsung-gt-i9020-nexus-s-ui-flex,a,en,810423.html
Verify that the one you currently have isn't simply not connected right.
Thank you. I will have a look if the part is not right connected.
Maybe I have to replace it. But in that case 25 Euro are much cheaper than 190.

This happened to me once. A day later my display completely died. I could turn on my phone, answer calls, etc the touchscreen worked, but I couldnt see anything. I had to get a new one..
I had this problem too.
I flashed a different radio, and boom!! issue resolved
I occasionally get this too. It only comes up when I'm using cm/cm based kernels though, very odd. I'm on matrix right now and it seems to Beowulf, anybody have some tips or suggestions?

I tried a different kernel and it looks like the problem is solved. I know that you should not count your chickens before they are hatched. But I really think that the kernel was the problem.
Anyway, I am just happy that my phone is working properly.
And now I am waiting for jellybean.

I don't see how the kernel would have anything to do with the backbutton. Although if it worked out then hey that's awesome. Amazing how much I have learned by reading the forums on this site.:victory:
Just clean off the the backbutton, and maybe it will stop or you have a software bug.

How's the GPS on this ROM? About to give it a whirl but I am not planning on leaving my basement apartment today. I am laid up due to severe back pain.
Seems SourceForge is having issues, they're telling me 3-4 hours to download the ROM and only one DL Server o_0
Any chance this will be available via Goo.im / GooManager?

I added the GPS package (which stated working for people) but don't know if I set the lines w permissions for gps file correctly or not cause I can't test my self (I always can't test wifi signal, gps and bluetooth due to my condition ) and I will definitely find a new host for my projects in future cause SF gave me some trouble w uploading, too...
Cool, I would suggest goo.im for convenience. If I feel up to it (and if this DL ever finishes) I might take a stroll outside later and let you know how the GPS works.

I haven't used the ROM long enough to truly judge and this is under lots of heavy use; Downloading all my apps, pre-caching my county on google maps via wifi, couple of navigation checks, etc. Also my screen was on pretty much the whole time on full brightness. Give it another day or so for more accurate results.

This ROM seems really snappy, with the spare parts animations set to fast. Phone calls are nice and clear and GPS managed to lock on withing a couple of minutes inside my basement apartment.
I am curious about the "restart" vs "reboot" option, restart seems to bypass part of the booting process (skipping the Team Acid logo). The Bootanimation is really cool but it still shows after disabling it in performance options.
I was a bit surprised that there seems to be no CM9 theming support, unless I am missing something Screen Candy only seems to only work when you hit the "Try it!" button, but not when the phone goes to sleep (by itself or manually).
Also what's up with the 4g section in the network preferences section? When I try to enable it it just comes up with "unknown" and the check box stays de-selected.

[GUIDE][ADVANCED]Fix physical buttons

Hello people..
I am writing this guide in relation to the physical button problems that are present in our phones..
PLEASE READ THE FULL GUIDE AT LEAST ONCE..
Now, before I start anything, I'd like to say that this guide is for ADVANCED and/or POWER users only..
It is NOT for everybody..
There is a perfectly good chance that you can do some serious hardware damage, the kind which will not be covered under warranty even..
Use CAUTION..
Alright..
Now, I am just gonna get started with the guide..
I have attached as many pics as possible, to make the understanding easier..
Please do excuse the quality of the pictures, my camera is getting a little old for its time now..
Firstly, we gather the tools we'll need :
TOOLS :=
1) Your faulty phone (D'Uh!)
2) 2 screwdrivers :
a) A Torx T5 screwdriver (for the outer body screws)..
b) A "Plus" shaped screwdriver, of size 1.7 (for the board)..
3) A case opener tool, or a guitar pick, or something small and sharp..
4) A clean table..
5) An ample amount of light..
6) The most important tool : EXTREME CAUTION!!
Now that you have what you need, its time we get cracking..
Same drill as last time.. Gonna break it down in steps..
Now, before we start with the guide, let me show you a couple pics of the tools I used for this guide and my toolkit...

THE METHOD :=
1) Alright.. Now, firstly, we switch off the phone, and take the back cover off, remove the battery, remove the SIM card, and memory card.. If all goes well, it should look something like this..
2) Put the back cover and battery aside.. We wont be needing those for a while now..
3) Take the phone, and open the 4 screws shown in the picture with yellow circles.. Here's where you'll need the T5 screwdriver..
4) Now, keep those screws somewhere safely.. Next, take the case opener(guitar pick in my case), and gently separate the upper part from the board.. You should have to apply a little force, but not too much, and you'll hear a few "clicks" and "cracks".. Do not panic, those are normal..
5) If you do it correctly, you should have 2 pieces of your phone now.. Check the image..
6), Next up, we open two more screws using the 1.7 sized PLUS shaped screwdriver, circled in the image below..
7) Next, disconnect the connector switches from the board.. There should be three.. See the circled areas..
A word of caution here.. Be very light handed here.. I broke one switch, the result of which I'll show at the end of the tutuorial..
8) Once you lift the switches, carefully pull the cables using something sharp, but do NOT break OR scratch the cables..
9) Now, take the case opener tool, and gently lift the board.. Be careful, as directly below is the display panel.. Any weight on that will mess up your display.. You should have three pieces by now..
10) Now that we have our board, we are going to gently blow some air into the gaps under the physical buttons.. You can use a camera lens cleaner, or simply blow air with your mouth.. If you have a small keyboard brush, lightly removing dust will also help.. Make sure you dont apply pressure anywhere else on the board, you may damage something..
11) Okay.. So we're halfway there.. Now all we gotta do is pack up the phone back..
12) So first, put the board back on the display panel, taing care that the connector cables are not buried under it..
13) Once you get the board "click" in its place, connect the switches.. VERY CAREFULLY... I broke one..
14) Next come the 2 small screws that hold the board in place.. Put them back ( DO NOT get the holes confused here, there are a lot)
15) Now, we place the second back panel back on the board and display panel..
16) Place the 4 screws back into their place... Using the T5 screwdriver..
17) And we're all set.. Put the SIM, memory cards, battery back in place.. Put back the back cover, and fire it up...
Now, pray to God with all your heart and soul, and if your phone starts up, thank Him, and enjoy the physical buttons..!!
============================================================================================
A little heads up.. This is a "temporary" solution.. Meaning you'll have to repeat this guide every couple months, as a sort of 'maintainance' of your phone..
============================================================================================
Now let me show you what happens when you're not careful enough..
I was assembling the phone back after taking the pictures, and I broke the lower(small) switch in the picture below..
Here's the result of that..
Touch partly shot, along with two backlights..
nice man!

Touch screen smoothness has nothing to do with rom development...

Two hour battery life please help

I'm ruining stock ICS 4.0.4. Noticed yesterday my phone was really sluggish and battery life would go from%100 to dead in about two hours. I went into settings then apps and looked at my running apps and my phone was scrolling through all of my apps. I don't think that's normal. My widgets are slow to activate and my phone is slow to respond. Any help would be appreciated. Does this sound like a virus or a simple fix?

I did hear that from a friend and I didn't believe it...
Now I'm starting to believe...
Best way fresh install, format internal sd.
That way you know for sure if it's a virus or not.
Good luck!

That's not going to tell you if its a virus noob. It could be any number of things causing the slowdown. What are your friends credentials because if its not a background in networking security he's got nothing but here say. Unfortunately for you I am a security professional. The likelihood of a virus is slim to none. Its more likely memory issues some apps probably consuming more than its share.

you should suggest him what to do instead of mocking me...
And I just told him what I heard and fresh install would be best bet...

Bad info and fear are not good input either. The reset would probably help but not because of a virus but freeing up tons of previously used space.

When looking at my running apps, should they be constantly scrolling? I've ran Norton malware and it came up clean.

This is a good idea.
You may have a app wakelocking keeping your CPU running and not deep sleeping like stated above there is like a .01 percent chance its a virus.
Wipe every thing reflash ROM of choice let settle then install your apps one a time waiting a few minutes between them so u can see witch one dose it.
Read up on the wake lock thread and see what betterbatterystats tells you. Or you could just flash a new rom

Hey thanx to all who responded. I ended up backing up my phone and doing a reset. Lost all my sips but that's no biggie. Went back with sock ICS and all seems to be fine. Once again thanx for helping out a somewhat noob!
So just to see if I understood :
You are using stock but rooted (?)
And your battery last only two hours.
I had the same issue with a ROM. First you have to shut off al your radios, data, gps, wifi, bt... Just to be aware if none of these things that are draining your battery life.
Then you should try to verify your battery charger. There's an sticky here in the forum. And lastly you have to check wakelocks... There's a good discussion about that here also.
I know it's kind of disappointing at the beginning, but when you finally understand all the symptoms of your phone you will solve all the troubles really quick... It's like having a newborn baby, at the beginning you don't know why they cry but when you learn about them you can identify every "kind of cry".
Best regards.
