[Q] Why is there still no ROM manager CWM? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Why is there still no CWM in ROM Manager specifically for the Skyrocket? Why is there only the T-Mobile SGS 2 thing?

ROM Manager is administered by Koush, he is the one who makes additions to the ROM Manager listings.

Exactly. Last I checked, our device wasn't the t-mobile sgs2..its the at&t/rogers sgs2 skyrocket

T mobile GS2 works for our device. Does the name really matter? fact is it works. note there is only about 20 listings, and several hundred android phones.

the tmo sgs2 is so similar to our SRs that we can flash that recovery on our phones, i have it on mine so just go ahead and flash it

Like I said, there is no cwm in Rom manager specifically for our phone. And there aren't any roms meant for the skyrocket in there so how does that help me?
And there are more than just those 20 that show up for us. Most mainstream phones have their own listing

Sure, like anyone else actually downloads the roms that are on cwm? Most of them are anything but current, and what's wrong with the roms that the XDA guys have developed specifically for our phones?
I really don't see what your looking for???

he wants to do it the easy way, have all the rom and cwm available through the app. Personally, im not giving an app that much control of my phone, especially when there is a high chance of brickage

Lol yeah.
I can't wait for the day that somebody wants someone to rat into their computer and actually do everything for them short of turning the phone off and booting into CWM.

It's not that I want everything done for me. It's just easier for Rom manager to tell me there's an update than for me to go to xda and look for the thread every day

Even if Rom Manager had cwm specifically for our phone... Take a look at the roms that are available for tmoibile.... You couldn't seriously want ANY of them. As far as reading a few threads.. The roms on XDA are the most current & have the leading edge of everything... If you're content with year old roms, why not just stay stock?

After rooting... you can change pretty much the whole OS by flashing custom ROMs found in the thread mentioned above, or you can just make small changes by installing MODs that changes certain things like battery, etc. To install some MODs you will need to flash the respective Kernels as well. However as a beginner I would recommend just flashing custom ROMs.
As of now, I've tried Skyrocketeer, QuickWiz, and Sky Ice Cream Sandwich and they all are usable with minor bugs here and there that may or may not affect you.
Good luck!
Thank you so much cue_32 and pativets. Now time to play around with some roms...

First you need to flash Clockworkmod Recovery. Then you place the zip on your SDcard, do a Nandroid backup through clockworkmod Recovery (not necessary but highly, highly recommended... especially if you have never done this before.) Then select install zip from SD card, find the .Zip file and run it and you should be golden.

Thanks reubendevries, makes sense now. Again thanks all for your great helpful tips.
Hey one other thing, try not to flash through Odin. Samsung has a counter for custom rom flashing and they will void your warranty. The best way to get clockworkmod recovery is buy paying through Rom Manager Premium. Sure it 5.00 bux but thats a worth it compared to voiding your warranty. It also will make sure you install the correct clockworkmod recovery.

Flashed rom via clockwork BRICK...PISSED!!!

So just being bored, i decided to flash a t-mobile rom, via clockwork rom manager, now the skyrocket wont even power on. So thanks Rom Manager for the bricked phone, Bad Buisness....
First sorry to hear that man. Ive never trusted rom manager to flash, I always use clockwork mod. Have you tried pulling the battery and try to get into download mode?

Why would you blame ROM Manager for your mistake?
A. Anytime you flash anything (even if its the correct ROM flashed the correct way (CWM)) you always assume responsibility yourself.
B. You flashed a T-mobile ROM on your AT&T Skyrocket. If done right, it usually works, but it still adds extra risk.
C. You said you were "just messing around". Anyone that doesn't want a bricked phone should take flashing or modifying anything serious...not just messing around.
D. Most of the ROMS you are supposed to flash on the SkyRocket give detailed directions in the OP. Any I have sen all say to use CWM and give great instructions.
I don't see how any of this is ROM Managers bad business? Hopefully this will be a good tale of precaution for others before they brick their phone not paying attention. Sorry to hear about your phone, but take the blame for yourself...not ROM manager.

Thanks. I'm not trying to give the guy a hard time. He just bricked (atleast soft-bricked) his phone so I'm sure he really is pissed. But blaming an app for it when it isn't the apps fault starts alot of confusion. If something really is wrong with an app, we all need to know about it so it can be tested / fixed/ avoided / reported / etc...If the fault is with the phone's owner than the phone's owner needs to take responsibility for the problem and stop blaming the creators of useful apps (and ROMS) for the problems.

It bricked because ROM manager doesn't recognize the recovery on the skyrocket. It's something in the first line of the app.
Although, I might agree with you and blame ROM manager also if it let you flash a ROM while it couldn't detect a recovery. That's just straight up ****ty oversight on the developer.

Try Samsung first. Tell them it just derped one day when you tried to turn it on. If they believe you, it might take a week or two but you'll get another phone. Samsung will just fix it and give it to the next person that has a warranty replacement as a "referbished" unit. They won't lose money and you will get a new phone. That is if they believe you.

nah, not really. Just different. Just with samsung keep in mind that odin is king.
also being newer to samsung, just read before you flash stuff.
I am amazed at the amount of people here that do not read and do things willy nilly and next thing you know they are crying because they cannot figure out how to fix their phone.
In my opinion I would stay on a stock or custom stock ROM. I just finished about 2 days of headache due to my IMEI going to 0 after using CM9. I will say that I've used CM10 and CM9. CM10 was glitchy, while CM9 was flawless from what I could tell right up until it all went wrong with my IMEI.
I am running cm10 as my daily driver, but it's not without its frustrations. For me, 4G data has been flawless. It's when the phone kicks over to 3G that data problem occur. Specifically, 3G data has erratic signal, periodic loss of connection, and general instability. However, when I'm in a 4G area, data is rock solid.
MMS is still an issue, as well as Bluetooth audio. But all in all, it runs great for a preview build. There haven't been any breakthroughs recently, so who knows how long it'll be before 3G data is stable. I'm thinking about returning to a stock rom for now just because I really need BT audio and will be going on a trip where I only get 3G.
What is the general feeling about which stock rom is most stable?

I have a question about restoring EFS and since I cant post in the dev forum yet, I will ask here...
How do you restore if you are using a windows machine and not linux. From my limited understanding, it seems as the commands in the various howto guides all pertain to Linux while some give commands to restore via Terminal Emulator on the phone. But what if Terminal Emulator is not installed... How do you install Terminal Emulator on a device with no IMEI ? Can a device with no IMEI still connect to market with WIFI ?

you can do it with windows, you can do it one of two ways
one is using the sdk toolkit and using adb.
the other way is copying your backup file to your phone and running the command through terminal emulator.
Yes wifi will still work with no IMEI allowing you to connect to the market and download a terminal emulator.
when he says linux, he means the command comes from the linux OS, but also because android of based off linux which is why it is used/works. He doesn't mean you have to run linux itself.

I read up on everything before taking the plunge with an AOSP ROM so I actually did back up my ESF data. The problem is that the method for restoring it does not work for an IMEI of 0. And yes I did try it anyway but what really fixed my problem was re provisioning the phone then using the method of IMEI restoring using QPST.

Nah really it's not all that bad. Things are just done a bit differently and if you haven't gotten your SDK setup and Odin 3.7 installed then I recommend you do so. It's like having the PH98IMG.zip file for the Rezound. Gets you back to stock in case sh** happens.

If you already had it setup for the Rezzy then you should be fine. Odin is needed if you ever want to return to stock..you know in case something goes wrong. You never know when you may need it.
There is no reason NOT to use Odin, it is simple to use, pretty much foolproof & you don't even need to install it.
All you do is DL the files to a folder in your PC & then click the .exe file.
You don't need the latest version either, I still had Odin from back when I was flashing a Droid Charge & that same version works perfectly for the G3.

OK so I came across a thread that said you would be able to run T-Mobile gs2 roms on skyrockets and I wanted to test it because I love the roms on the T-Mobile gs2. I grabbed the conversation file that the thread provided and I got the T-Mobile gs2 I wanted and began the process. I backed up my current rom and then wiped every thing. I flashed the rom and then the conversion file like it said. I rebooted the phone and it just sat at the Samsung boot screen. I thought it was normal so I left it there for a while and came back and it was still stuck there. Can the skyrocket really run T-Mobile gs2 roms? Did I do anything wrong in my process? I was able to restore to my previous rom so I'm not freaking out, but I really want to run the rom I found. Is there anyone that can help me? Please and thanks in advance.
Yeah they work fine. You did something wrong.

Simple answer, you are flashing a TW based conversion kit to an AOKp based rom. Just use an AOSP, CM10 and alike kernel to that rom and you should be good.
Disclaimer: do this at your own risk.

i727r help

I have a problem with getting into CWM. I successfully installed CWM and put the supersu file into the phone. But when i enter CWM. it exits by itself and i couldn't find a solution so i posted it on this website. Would definitely appreciate a proper answer .Thank you very much if u do
Had it done this ever since you flashed cwm? If so you should re-flash it. Could be a bad flash

I recused myself from offering any help for the same reason. I don't want to be responsible for bricking a device by telling him to flash a new i727 ROM or recovery on the wrong device.

The other guys have good points. All gs2's are not the same. You need to let its know what specific device you have. An i727 or i9210

But I'm afraid it may brick the phone as i already put CWM the version of CWM is CWM touch and the phone is an i9210 i had to put it here as theres no forum for it. I'm just confused if the i727 or the i777 are similar in devices.

To have any hope of saving your phone you need to find away to put the stock rom and recovery back on it. Google that for your i9210. Any other help would be just guesses as I'm not familiar with your phone.

Theoretically the i9210 and i727 are the same phone for different markets, both are SGSII LTE. One is for North America and the other one is for the rest of the world.
The i989 and i9210 are supposed to have the same chipsets and as we know the i989 and i727(r) are intercompatible with some minor input.
So, theoretically, there shouldn't be too much danger in experimenting with software between these two phones.
But, I wouldn't try it, unless money grew on trees and I could just throw a phone away out the window after using it for a day because who cares I got a whole stack of new ones in my supplies room where I keep the $100 bills mountain.

You forget hardware button and likely multiple differences in their kernel I'm not sure how many but they aren't the same device.

If you read carefully you will see that I never did say that they in fact are the same phone, regardless of which one you're referring to.
And I was not trying to list all the differences either. In lack of knowing better I assume that what you have pointed out is correct.
