OK so I came across a thread that said you would be able to run T-Mobile gs2 roms on skyrockets and I wanted to test it because I love the roms on the T-Mobile gs2. I grabbed the conversation file that the thread provided and I got the T-Mobile gs2 I wanted and began the process. I backed up my current rom and then wiped every thing. I flashed the rom and then the conversion file like it said. I rebooted the phone and it just sat at the Samsung boot screen. I thought it was normal so I left it there for a while and came back and it was still stuck there. Can the skyrocket really run T-Mobile gs2 roms? Did I do anything wrong in my process? I was able to restore to my previous rom so I'm not freaking out, but I really want to run the rom I found. Is there anyone that can help me? Please and thanks in advance.
Yeah they work fine. You did something wrong.

Simple answer, you are flashing a TW based conversion kit to an AOKp based rom. Just use an AOSP, CM10 and alike kernel to that rom and you should be good.
Disclaimer: do this at your own risk.

Im just curious if it is real or not... I know hardly anything about android.. i came from an iphone and very glad i did so!

Can you please PM me as well?
I have ROM Manager installed but not sure which model name to select as I don't see Infuse when I try to install clockworkmod recovery
Anyone know which option to select when it asks for model name?
TIA.

any of the galaxy s line should work. i used the one for the capitvate.
where did you find the link? and are you sure it is real?
I saw tons of posts in other threads about how this phone does not have same kernel as Captivate and they bricked their phones. Can you give us more details on how you did it and what option you picked exactly?
Did you install CWM using Captivate as model name only or you changed the stock rom?
Its a rootkit/spam URL.
There is a site that spins these all up about how to get Gingerbread on your device. It replaces a couple things like su and such and will make your phone not your friend.
Im with above post. If it happen it would be on xda... call this bs..
sent from Infuse but miss my captivate on cont. 5.5.... One day this can be as good...

the reason there was a brick is because someone flashed a captivate kernel with CWM built in. if you use rom manager, its the same as if you do the steps in my post regarding CWM.

There'll be no Gingerbread until Samsung makes it, or some genius makes a kernel from, say, i9000 sources like xcaliburinhand did for the Captivate.

He took the i9000 kernel source and modified it for use on the Captivate.
Could he do it for the Infuse? Probably. I don't know much about kernels beyond how they fit into ROM creation.

Hello all,
Just got the Skyrocket about a month ago, it's rooted, but just got into the idea of installing anew ROM/Kernel and decided to try out UnNamed, then possibly install Faux123's Kernel.
I booted to CWM (5.0.2.6), backed up, wiped, wiped cache and tried to install from zip, but the install fails with Status 1. I have searched everywhere, but couldn't find anything about it. I am currently restoring the NANDroid backup I made prior to attempting to flash so I can use my phone.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated as I am brand new to the Android scene.

No need to be rude. I made a simple mistake. At least I had the common sense to back up first so it's not like I'm in a bad situation.
Well, back to researching other ROMs then.

Before I discovered XDA I started on Google and a lot of results came up for UnNamed and the Skyrocket like someone tagged the site/post/whatever incorrectly. As far as the research goes I want to look at what the different ROMs have to offer, any complaints or issues users are experiencing with them, etc. to make a decision as to which one I would like to install. Same thing with Kernels.
Chris
i just picked up a rooted and unlocked skyrocket. now i have been reading a lot of the how to's and other mods for the phone. to clarify though i can run any t989 rom or any i 727 skyrocket rom on the phone? also all i need to do is flash the tmobile radio pack for 3/4 g on tmobile?
i wont do anything until i get confirmation. no need to brick my shiny new white skyrocket lol.
any other tips ideas would be helpful and awesome!!!
I'm pretty sure you should only flash at&t from if you have at&t, and T-Mobile if you have T-Mobile. The carrier settings usually come with the rom, so if you have at&t and flash a T-Mobile you probably won't get any connectivity.
Just my thought, but I'm no dev. Do a search on the forums.

just use. Cwm touch recovery. It is much better then previous versions.
Do a nandroid backup before.
And as long as u stay in the skyrocket and t989 section you'll be fine.
Almost all people brick. Doing thing they shouldn't. Or flashing stuff from a diff device.
The t989 is almost identical to our device

Hi I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket (SAMSUNG-SGH-I727) off of Craigslist and it came with a custom ROM. // NexusMod ICS Zero // to be exact. It is running Android Version 4.0.4.
But what I'm wanting is to restore back to the normal firmware because this doesn't let me use some stuff I like and it sometimes bugs up. So I would just prefer the stock version. I HAVE searched around these forums for an answer but nothing really specifies anything. Here is what I know about ROMS
-They use ClockWork Mod *No clue what that is
-They can brick your device while putting a new ROM on your device.
So I obviously would hate for this to happen so if you could guide me through the process it would be amazing! Thank you!

Hi All,
I am a Newb, but have basic knowledge. So I rooted my phone but left the standard OS on the phone. It's Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE (Skyrocket) version. So now there's a new OS update. So on the phone I downloaded the update and the phone reboots to CWMR once rebooted. I don't know what to select in that menu? Anyhow have any ideas. The update does not install.
thanks
You need to be stock to receive updates. You need stock recovery

What version of ICS are you running? To take the update you need the stock recovery of the version of ICS you are running. Or you can flash the new jb official rogers rom that is listed in the dev thread via cwmr. Check out mohans thread

You can't update with a modified recovery. I'd highly recommend checking out a ROM from one of our devs instead instead of just going through stock updates, you already have the recovery and root in.
And don't worry about the guy above

I'd say this is the safest thing. A rom made by the manufacturer who, logically, should know better about their own device than a community of voulenteer developers. It's rooted, official and has everything you need and more.
It's the same rom you got via OTA/Kies but repacked for CWM. :victory:
