I recently switched to the Atrix 2 from the HTC Aria. I have the Atrix 2 rooted and the bootstrapper installed. When the Aria was off I would hold the volume down button and power it on directly into recovery mode. Is this somehow possible on the Atrix 2 or do I have to go through the bootstrapper app every time??
Thanks

Ya. Sorry to say. But ya its bootstrap everytime. To get into recovery that way, same as the aria, someone would have to unlock the bootloader or figure out a work around...

You could also intall JY daddy's RZR CWM at boot. This will boot into CWM everytime you boot. The only downfall is it has been causing GPS issues but there is a removal zip also.
thanks
I am going to try and install the victory rom now, hopefully I dont mess up and I wont need to restore the cwm back up

Although, all our ROMs aren't effected by the GPS bug with CWM on boot zip. Victory ROM v1.1 works fine with it.

thnaks guys you gave me the courage to go for it an install a new rom. I installed the vicory rom and I love it. Its simple, fast and was just like flashing a new rom on my old aria, so thanks everyone who has worked on this. I have used this forum for years, but only now did I become active so I can't thank developers since I havent gotten my 10 posts yet. Im working on that and maybe soon being able to participate more in developing threads.
guys switching from aria to other phones are complaining about their experience while trying to customize their phones, but I can happily say everyone working on the Atrix 2 has been more than helpful and patient with me so again thank you

Just wanted to tell everyone that TBH released the rooted gingerbread leak on their app a while ago, here's the steps to install it:
1. Sbf to be completely stock, you must have all the stock apps and be on the 2.4.330, so if you sbf to the .29 firmware, update it to the .330 firmware
2. Root your phone and install bootstrap, don't boot into recovery yet!
3. Install the TBH app (if you don't have it, donate to team black hat to get it) and download the 2 files for gingerbread, there's a part 1 and part 2, don't rename them.
4. Boot into clockwork recovery using bootstrap
5. In bootstrap, flash part one of the update, then immediately after without restarting, flash part 2.
6. Restart, you should get the red M logo and boot into gingerbread, if you bootloop boot into recovery by holding the x button on your keyboard when you turn it on and then hold the vol up+down buttons to unlock the menu, once in the menu do a factory reset.
Rooted GB is pretty fast and stable, haven't encountered any bugs yet, battery life is pretty solid (a bit better than froyo), I'm in the process of freezing apps, its difficult now that they added a lot more bloatware that, I have to figure out which of the new apk's to freeze without breaking anything, just a heads up.
Hope you all enjoy your leaked gingerbread!
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL running Leaked Rooted Gingerbread!
I installed the non rooted version of this and it's been working perfectly since last night. No issues at all so far and the battery life seems better but it's still too soon to tell.
All in all, I'd say this is a great release and appears to be better than Froyo even with a ROM. I'm just currently waiting for a way to root it that doesn't involve me having to flash it again and starting from scratch.
You may wait a long time. ..
Any method that can root this without using TBH's files will require a new exploit for GB.
Dumb question, since I'm currently running a DINC2. What's the bootstrap? I've still got my old D2G, and want to put it to use now that this is leaked, but need to learn some of the terminology over here.
Thanks!

not gonna happen, currently the only way to get a rooted version on the other moto droids (except the OG droid) are to install a rooted version, theres no way to root from within gingerbread.
Hmm... I didn't know that last part there... I guess I should install the TBH version now then before I do any more customization on it. That way It doesn't hurt so much to SBF again.

so basically no need for the TBH root app?
I've seen that posted on some other sites as well since this morning. Apparently it's the same files from the TBH app. I believe you only needed the app initially to download them and nothing else so now you can flash them on your own.
the rooted version on the tbh app was released first, if you know tbh you know that when they have a leak, they like to release it on the app first, then maybe a day or so later release it to the public, when i made this post it was only available on the app.
I've been asking on My Droid World, but I haven't gotten any replies yet. I need the /system/etc/security/cacerts.bks from the new release, because I altered my cacerts.bks to add CAcert's root and now the checksum doesn't match, and therefore this won't install. Can someone send me their cacerts.bks?
There you go.
But this is from stock 2.4.330 version which I presume is what you actually need for the verification to complete.

I know we have no way of getting back to stock since we don't have an FXZ yet but why couldn't we use the stock Android recovery upon boot then use our nandroid backup from the ATRIX 2 bootstrap incase someone is stuck on a bootloop or messes their phone up? Would this work?
It sounds plausible, we just need someone that is still within their 30 day return time that has the nerve to try it. They would have to do a nandroid then purposely soft-brick and hope and pray I guess.
Well I dont remember being able to do this on my OG Atrix but today I was messing around and powered my phone off. I was wanting to get to the boot option screen so I could boot into stock recovery. Well I did and got the usual green man with a triangle. Then I proceeded to push the same buttons that got me to the boot option screen and then the stock recovery menu showed up just like CWM recovery. Was we able to do this on the OG Atrix because I dont remember?
In the Droid razor forums they have a way to boot cwm on power up. Ill post the link later. Why couldn't we port that to our phones?

If what I have just done will work we can do the same thing upon boot without having to port anything.
We should be able to flash any zip located on the sd card upon boot via the stock android recovery.
Hoping someone with a lil more knowledge of this stuff will chime in here
The stock recovery wont work for a few reasons the biggest is you cant backup and restore. We need cwm no question about it. we need this on our phones.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385283
I have been talking to hashcode about porting his safestrap method from the droid 3 to our a2's. That would work even better because then we'd be able to restore to stock w/o an fxz or sbf.
Why can't you restore with the stock recovery? We can create backups through our bootstrap so that isnt a problem and it works just fine. But we have no option at boot which is the problem. Look at my last pic. That is my nandroid backup through our bootstrap.
I'm Uploading a video to youtube of what we need.. Hold tight. And I thought you couldn't use backups created from other recoveries?
http://youtu.be/H3fIdf5fQ70
So this is the droid 3 safestrap from hashcode working on my A2. I have been able to make backups that are actually 300mb more then the bootstrap cwm backups. I have Not tried restoring backups using it. I have replaced my phone 4 times now with best buy I don't want to try again.. I have sent hashcode some files he requested to hopefully port this over to the A2.
Check it out!

Yes I'm familiar with hashcodes safestrap and if he can get it ported to our A2 then that would be exactly what we would need. I was thinking hard about asking him for help myself. So I'm glad you did

Should I root my Atrix 2? The last time a rooted it it wouldn't boot up. It was stuck in a loop. It went to the AT&T logo then restarted again. So I took it back and got another one. Im pretty sure that happened because I flashed cwm recovery for Motorola Atrix 4G not Atrix 2. There was no Atrix 2 chioce probably because my phone is too new. Should I root?

yes you can root easily. there is a one click method in the dev section. its a sticky. also there is a method of returning your phone back to stock incase something goes wrong. it is also a stick in the dev section. (fastboot files) never flash stuff from another phone unless a dev gets his/her hands on it and makes it work for our device. anyway hope i helped.any more q's just pm

But hopefully this will change soon.
So I've upgraded to CM9(cm9-droid3-20120216-2345) which went fine.. However I have no service, no market, and for some reason the USB/Portal doesn't work the same with CM9.. So I can't flash my phone, and when I try to use backup/recovery to Clockwork Recovery through safestrap I am getting "Couldn't open directory. No files found."
I know the files are there, I can see them when I go to 'Install zip from sdcard'.. At this point I just want to get back to SuperCharged_V_5 and I have been beating my head all morning over this.. I have no idea what else to try from here as RSD Lite does not pick up my phone anymore.. What do I do guys

It does not work for our phone yet. lfaber06 and I have been working on it and CM7 for SEVERAL months now. The issue with CM9 is finding a radio for our phone that works with ICS (which is what CM9 is based off of). Go take a look at the post in the development section on it.
For those that would like to take a look at flashing it, you MUST use safestrap, which is having issues right now, and is very low priority since we have CWM through bootstrap and the CWM on boot hack.
Here is where the CM9 post is located, but I advise that you read the WHOLE thread, and if you would like to help you can start looking for a working radio that is similar to ours that is already on ICS.

The port does not work period. It was only posted for our dev team to help get it working. It is not going be working anytime soon.
I am working on a new CM9 compile specifically for our phone. I already have most of CM7 working as well, will be getting that out soon. CM9 will be a couple months away.

If you can go fastboot mode, then you should use the restore 2.3.5 fastboot script look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539167
this has save me a thousands of times
In the meantime if you absolutely must mess around with ICS on your phone, all the Droid 3 4.0.4 AOKP nightlies will flash via bootstrap, but again, radio doesn't work.

I have been looking through all of the ROMs by all of our fantastic developers and have been paying attention to the developments as they've been happening, and now it seems that everyone is adding in the CWM-on-boot mod.
I'm just wondering, is there a huge bonus from it that I'm missing? Or is it just useful from a dev's standpoint to be able to flash on every boot? Since most ROMs just come with it now, is there a way to remove it and restore the Atrix Bootstrapper app for the occasional CWM run (I heard of the J.Y.Daddy's something or other but does that put everything back to normal?)?
I'm running SuperCharged V5 Update 2, btw, so I still am used to the Bootstrapper app.

To my understanding there is a way to remove it however I would recommend against it.
It's put in there as a safe-guard IMO, and it has saved me from many a nasty soft-brick.
I would leave it mate. It's there for safety's sake!

CWM on boot is nice because if you bootloop, you can just pull the battery to get back into it, meaning you will not have to flash the fxz to get out of softbricks. you can get rid of it by reallowing bootstrap in superuser then running it once.

CWM on boot is a handy tool to have as a safety net when flashing things to your phone. Basically it's like this:
Let's say you flash something to your phone and it didn't take right and sent your phone into a bootloop, with CWM on boot if that were to happen your phone would boot into CWM Recovery and at that point you could do a restore to get your phone back to it's previous state. And should you not flash anything for a while, you can go into the SuperUser app and allow the A2 Bootstrap permission and it would override CWM on boot, that way you wouldn't have to click "reboot system now" in CWM Recovery every time you reboot your phone.
Okay so this thread really died off already but...
Is it possible to temporarily disable the CWM on boot if it's already baked into the ROM? I am running SCv6 right now, and since there is no Bootstrapper app, there is no way I can simply enable it in SuperUser.

So will downloading and installing the app again do something weird? Will that merge together with the CWM already there, so that they can both be disabled with one fell swoop?

installing the bootstrap will no hurt anything. just enable it in SU to disable it on boot (it just kind of takes over, but doesn't hurt anything.) Keep in mind it may take 2 reboots before the change kicks in either way. (1 to set up and the next you actually see it.)
