ICS Encryption - Anyone tried it? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I'm interested in trying out the encryption the ICS now provides. Has anyone tried this yet?
Does it affect performance?
Can you still flash from cwm, or will that corrupt existing files?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk

I haven't used encryption since they introduced it in Froyo. Just for the reason I'm a flashaholic and believe I will loose access to my files. Maybe someone can confirm if that is still the case on ICS.

yes i'm using it no biggie.

Have you experience anything out of the ordinary while using the encryption?

someones apps lock up. also i wiped the phone and cache to reset it now my SD card will not mount of decrypt, i suspect it is lost. do not wipe your phone after you encrypt your card.
i suspected it was a mountable encrypted store with a password seems the encryption is stored in a file on the dam phone what a joke. and kies didnt backup all my photos like io thought it was. what a joke.

That was one of my concerns with the encryption. Seems there should be a way to backup the keystore to prevent total loss of data.

[Q] Solved - Help: all downloads are unsuccessful

Help...no matter which rom i try i cant get any downloads to work...sorry, let me clarify...my market downloads work fine but any downloads form the web fail.
Any thoughts on what to change to fix this? it wasnt always this way...i dont know whats changed that crosses roms.
Solved:
It appears two be a two part issue, some of it is the Download Manager and at least part of the issue was with the Calibre App i was trying to DL from. Specifically, I was accessing the Calibre net share component. When a password is set on the share the gtab download manager is unable to correctly request downloads. I removed the uid/pwd and downloads work again. With the uid/pwd in place logs show an http 401 error.
Now to determine why...
In recovery are you wiping everything? Cause that was my issue at first and I was crossing roms lol
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
I had the same issue when I tried the notion adam browser.
I just reapplied my rom.

When you say you wiped cache and stuff, did you wipe user data as well? If so, then that would explain why Titanium can't see your previous backup (It stores it in internal storage by default).
If that is the case, and you have wiped the data partition, your best bet would be to start over and reload your ROM from scratch.

As long as Darkeyce didn't perform a NVIDIA flash or repartition the drive, the backup data should still be there. I've loaded many custom roms by wiping cache and data (factory reset), and all I had to do was reinstall Titanium Backup and restore my apps.
I had the same problem yesterday on my Vegan GTab. GMail wouldn't work either, and my Nook app wouldn't sync with my online account. I didn't try any fix but after shutting down the device last night, I fired it up this morning and everything was working fine.

Fixed the TB issues...that was related to the Keramides file...deleted it and all teh TG data came back...but i STIll have the download issue.
All the cache wipes were done, including the user data but that didnt impact the backups.

Is it important to backup before a reset?

Just curious. There are lots of talk of backing up data. Is it really needed when doing a complete reset of the phone.
g2x rooted stock
nah, I don't think so, unless you're gonna flash different ROMs. The reason why I did a factory reset is because I backed up all my system data with Titanium backup and no longer had any available space left. So not knowing what to delete, I just did a factory reset and after that still I found the left over traces were still taking up space, so I just reformatted both external and internal memory.

Using an ordinary file manager (don't use root explorer if you want to delete all your files manually cause if you don't know what your doing then you can possibly brick your phone) you could of deleted every single file that you don't need. Android won't allow you to delete important files when using a ordinary file manager so you won't harm your device. I've tried deleting files such as "Android Secure" and all it does is create another Android Secure folder.

No a backup isn't needed, but it is similar to having insurance on a vehicle. Just in case something happens you are covered.

[Q] CWM Backups not restoring

I have made multiple backups, but none of them will seem to restore properly. It always fails while restoring system! Any ideas? This is kind of a problem, as when I bootlooped yesterday, I had to wipe data and reinstall my rom.
Did you try clearing data, cache and dalvik cache before restoring?
What rom were u coming from?

I have cleared everything, did this from supercharged and Sonya, and possibly stock, but I don't remember
Maybe you have a corrupt SD card and it's not backing up correctly? Did you change the names of the folders?
Because if you came from stock and tried to restore and it didn't work then there must be a physical problem because it sounds you have tried every software method.
You can always send the backed up data to me and ll try to restore it. If it restores for me then theres a software problem on your end, if it doesnt that means your backup got corrupted somehow

Are there any settings in CWM that could effect this? just an idea as this is drivng me insane and seems to be a problem that only I have. should I wipe the system partition before restoring? or is that a bad idea.
Still having problem
Just want to get this back up top since I'm still having this problem. since others were able to restore it I think it is something on my end. I am working on my reviews project so I want this working, so I am kind of desperate for help. I get this feeling that it is going to be something really simple, but someone please help me.
It might be your SD card. Try backing up your files, and then formatting the card. Then boot into CWM, make a backup, and try to recover it.
I've been putting off formatting since I have 25 GB of music that takes a while to transfer but maybe I'll try

interesting... Never had that happen to me before.
formatting my sdcard now, it's going to take a few hours to transfer all my stuff back (30+ GB), but i'll kep you updated, hopefully this works so I can try out all the roms for my review thread, then come back to where I am now.
EDIT: just realized I never even formatted the card when I got it as it is now named "MOT" so maybe the phone just didn't like that. transferring back now at 2.8 MB/s does that seem slow? or is it normal. anyways, do the math, this may take a while.

:\ One of the corrupt files might have been transfered off your sd card, so right now you may be re-adding corrupt files to it. Are you moving or copy+pasting?
If you allow the phone to format the phone (which is what I do) it will name the SD card "MOT".
The End.

Cut+ paste. I will try before adding the music to make sure. the rest only took 10 minutes. If it fails I will transfer less and see if I can figure it out.
Still having problem
this time it got most of the way through restoring system then failed. any ideas. could it be a corrupt system file.
If you're using Sonya with the built in CWM, you can install Rom Manager and flash the Bionic recovery. Plus that gives you one click back up and restore through Rom Manager.

I just got hit with the TWRP can wipe your SD card bug

I decided to install Clean Rom 4.0 Dev edition so I did a quick tibu, then booted into twrp and made a nandroid of my current setup
I then went to install DE clearing caches and /data
I went to install the rom and it wasn't there
the only thing on my SD card was my backup and it was corrupted.
I plugged my phone in and mounted the sd card and my computer said it was unreadable so I had to format it
I love starting over
I had cwm originally and randomly lost files off my sd card or were corrupted after mounting as usb so switched to twrp and have had the same problems with losing random files and corruption of files. So I don't think it's specific to the recovery its something else that's causing it. Wish I new what it was because it's quite annoying. I've resorted to only transfering files via dropbox or lan with es file explorer but it's definitely a pain when transferring a Rom.

QFT. while I've never had to pull a backup from the cloud I'm glad to have it as an option more than ever seeing as I no longer have an ext SD.
I also started syncing my photos to dropbox every day or so i can't lose those either.

I have it set up as well luckily that's one set files that I have never lost. It's weird there's no rhyme or reason to what gets wiped I've lost pictures data apps that I had saved copies of on my card data from apps. I just don't get it. I wonder if it's actually the internal sd card that's wonky or some way the usb is being handled when mounting.

I've wondered the same thing... It might not be recovery related since it happens with both.
That's odd, because I just flashed TWRP 2.1.7 yesterday and I was unable to wipe my SD card. I had to boot into the system and 'Delete Phone Storage' through the settings menu. Nothing would happen when I would try to wipe through TWRP.

I had the same problems with my internal storage on HTC Touch Diamond. I lost a lot of files with that phone. With the HTC One X I have only lost a few Pictures that got corrupted, I think it all has to do with continuous flashing ROMs
Ahh, I hate this bug!! I've lost several things and have had tons of pics become corrupted.

I just lost a few photo's today. First time I've encountered this bug. Guess its time to get dropbox and have it sync my photo's and tibu stuff.
I'm pretty damn paranoid, so I've started doing an SD Card dump right before flashing a ROM using ADB.
$ adb pull /sdcard/
Probably overkill, since I have almost everything important backed up somewhere, but I'd rather take the extra thirty minutes and make sure I don't lose anything permanently.
Only thing I was out was time. I back up my photos to drop box and Google plus.

Slim Kat 4.4.2 to Hyperdrive 4.1.2 ?

Do I have to do anything special to flash back to Hyperdrive? I'm sick of using all these 4.4.2 roms that have so many issues. I just need to go back to Hyperdrive. It ran so smooth and I do not understand why I switched in the first place anymore.

I would do a normal clean wipe, but add in format sd card to get rid of your 0 folder. Transfer everything you need to off of your internal sd card, and move it back after a flash.
Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, factory reset, format system, format internal sd card, flash rom.

Never done it because I've always been on 4.1.2. I can't speak from experience.
But basically the way 4.1 and 4.3 or above hold files are different. Since you already 4.4, you have a folder in data/media/0 that has all of the data you are currently using. 4.1 uses data/media to hold all of your data.
Theoretically, if you don't use titanium backup to restore your apps and data you shouldn't have any issues, but you will begin to accumulate duplicated data from apps over time because the data will be stored in a completely different location. If you use titanium backup to restore data, you may get app conflicts because you really have the exact same app information in 2 different places.
If you wipe your sd, you're starting on a clean slate and should avoid any conflicts. People constantly report lag, app conflicts, and miscellaneous files that take up all the storage on their device that they can't account for. All of those problems is due to this issue.
Edit: additionally, I would also use this same procedure to move from 4.1 back to 4.3, it has the same issues associated with it.

I don't get what you're saying here, if you wipe your internal SD then you have to have your rom on an external SD card.
Formatting your internal SD card will wipe everything off of it. Once you flash a rom, it'll repopulate all the folders you need in the locations it needs to, but your app data, pictures, and anything else you have on there will be gone. If you back up stuff, I'm just saying backup important stuff you don't want to lose like pictures or music. You can always put them back after the flash.
