Folks,
My phone is rooted, h-boot. I can't load any custom roms, so I decided to just stick with the stock rom. I received the OTA ICS updated today in the US (t-mobile) and tried to update. It errors out giving me the exclamation sign and green android logo. I've done research and tried to flash the RUU, I've tried several RUU that I thought fits my phone description. Apparently not the case though. Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.
Here is my specs:
phone: HTC Sensation Z710e European non-branded T-mobile
on 2.3.4
Software: 1.50.401.1
baseband: 10.56.9035.OOU_10.14.9035.01_M
The OTA ICS update I received this morning is the following name:
OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_R-1.50.401.1_release_252072fll6erq
It was told at least a million times, that never install official OTAs on a rooted phone. Search the sticky/guide threads for solution.
And when flashing the correct RUU flash it from fastboot and make sure you have HTC drivers (come with HTC Sync) installed.
What's worse case scenario installing official OTA update on rooted phone? I don't care if i lose root or not. I just want ICS.
Problems without root
Hi,
I'm getting the same problem on an un-rooted phone.
The phone died half-way during the update download due to power outage/low battery.
So I deleted the old update file, which was half-downloaded and ran "Check for updates" again. This time it downloaded the complete file, but when it begins installation it's stuck for hours at the Android logo. The update doesn't seem to be installing. Had to re-boot the phone to get the old ROM back without ICS.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Some phones don't like the update mine didn't if you want to try

Hi, I've been using my unbranded HTC Desire for a few months now, did the OTA update to Android 2.2 about a month ago. About 5 days ago I got a notification that there was an update available, I started the installation, got an error that it could not back up my data and acknowledged that but to my surprise it continued to perform the installation. Now the phone reboots about every 2 minutes, the status bar shows no connection even when I'm surfing the web, checking e-mail or answering a call. After kicking it back to factory defaults at the advice of HTC I had no change in conditions. ATT naturally said an HTC what? Flash a ROM, what’s a ROM (HTC recommended that move as well). So I figured well I'll flash the ROM myself, only problem with that idea is I can't create a gold card because the device does not recognize the SD card. I put the SD card in a Samsung GalaxyS and it reads it fine. I used several WWE bravo trying to flash it across the usb but it failed stating the ROM was not correct for my hardware.
Any help finding a ROM I can flash across a USB or any other ideas you may have would be of great help.
You could downgrade HBOOT 0.92 to 0.80 and maybe install an older update rom to see if it changes your situation, it might work!
Hey all,
Quick Q. I've rooted my Sensation XE, as I was using a Android market changer. I'm not using it any longer, and having a rooted phone doesn't really do anything for me at the moment. With the release of ICS imminent, I would like to get the OTA update.
From what I've read on different forums however, taking an OTA update when rooted isn't a good thing (I can understand why) so I was wondering how I would go back to a stock ROM, but perhaps leaving S-OFF (Will that interfere with an OTA update?) so that if I want to change back to a rooted ROM at a later date; I can.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Berny
Flash the XE RUU (assuming one is available for your phone) and it will leave you S-OFF but shouldn't affect the OTA file
I have been reading around for a day or so now and am a bit stuck
Here is the problem
I had to send my phone back for repair as it had stopped charging (BTW I did not return it to stock or unroot etc. Sent as was running elegancia rom, rooted s=off and supercid11111111)
They just replaced the Mobo and sent it back (4 day turn around)
It came back with GB 2.3.4.
I applied s=off from rev no problems then could not get it to boot as I also updated the firmware to 3.32 as I wanted to go back to elengancia.
Got round that by downgrading the firmware to 3.12 and was just about to apply latest firmware 1 step at a time when I was offered a OTA update to android 4.03. nice (I thought) that will sort all the firmware out for me.
Now I can not s= off as rev says there is no phone attached (adb fastboot says there is)
I cannot root either and cannot install a custom recovery???
any help please.
Hi guys,
I´m using a rooted (not s-off) htc one s (1.53.401.2) working pretty smooth.
Now checking for sw updates I tried to install the brand new 1.78.401.2 on it.
Unfortunately the device just reboots, showing red text below the htc logo
telling me several things regarding developer mode & stuff and went into cwm.
So no idea why it isn´t updating w/ the downloaded fw file. Any ideas so far?

To update using the OTA you'd need to flash the stock recovery back on and re- lock the bootloader.

Hey,
I have a telus HTC One S and they just released the Android v 4.1.1 (my current is 4.0.3)
I've rooted my phone and installed CWM. But i would like to undo this to install the new ota update to this version. I assume this means i will have to :
remove super User
lock my boot loader using fast boot
Then using the RUU_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.70.661.1_Radio_0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L_release_254554_signed.exe
file install the stock recovery and rom?
Is this correct or am i missing something.

Right, go for it.

You don't need to re-lock bootloader. Just remove superuser and restore stock recovery, then you are ready for OTA update.
So It worked but I encountered another issue, after the update was done my phone was unable to stay connected to the telus network.
it will connect to 4g with almost full bars for about 2 mins of which i can use data then it will disconnect me entirely, I can't search for the network or automatically configure it.
I took it to telus the sales guy played around with it reset the setting, nothing, then he Gave me a new sim (said it fixed his htc one which he did the same update last week) but it didn't work for me.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how i might fix it. They want me to sent my phone into for repairs but I don't want a loner phone for the 3 weeks it takes them to fix it.
I'm tempted to run the RUU again and sent my phone back to the stock 4.0.3 from 4.1.1 to see if it works and then try upgrading again.
Any advice?
maybe clear cache and possibly check the apn setting.
I tried that, and even factory recoveries with no luck so i returned it to Telus and hopefully it'll be repaired, It says re-locked and the tampered was removed so hopefully i don't get my warranty void'd if it is i'm sure i can down grade to the original os then load a custom rom and it should work
Just got my phone back from HTC
Despite having previously rooted my phone, they repaired it with no questions, and for free. Turns out my phone had a defective mainboard so once i updated the defect affected the phones ability to connect to the wireless network or something. But with the replaced board and with the new software update its working perfectly again.
