[Q] Installing OTA update / reinstalling stock recovery - HTC One S

Hey,
I have a telus HTC One S and they just released the Android v 4.1.1 (my current is 4.0.3)
I've rooted my phone and installed CWM. But i would like to undo this to install the new ota update to this version. I assume this means i will have to :
remove super User
lock my boot loader using fast boot
Then using the RUU_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.70.661.1_Radio_0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L_release_254554_signed.exe
file install the stock recovery and rom?
Is this correct or am i missing something.

You don't need to re-lock bootloader. Just remove superuser and restore stock recovery, then you are ready for OTA update.

So It worked but I encountered another issue, after the update was done my phone was unable to stay connected to the telus network.
it will connect to 4g with almost full bars for about 2 mins of which i can use data then it will disconnect me entirely, I can't search for the network or automatically configure it.
I took it to telus the sales guy played around with it reset the setting, nothing, then he Gave me a new sim (said it fixed his htc one which he did the same update last week) but it didn't work for me.
Does anyone know why this is happening or how i might fix it. They want me to sent my phone into for repairs but I don't want a loner phone for the 3 weeks it takes them to fix it.
I'm tempted to run the RUU again and sent my phone back to the stock 4.0.3 from 4.1.1 to see if it works and then try upgrading again.
Any advice?

maybe clear cache and possibly check the apn setting.

I tried that, and even factory recoveries with no luck so i returned it to Telus and hopefully it'll be repaired, It says re-locked and the tampered was removed so hopefully i don't get my warranty void'd if it is i'm sure i can down grade to the original os then load a custom rom and it should work

Just got my phone back from HTC
Despite having previously rooted my phone, they repaired it with no questions, and for free. Turns out my phone had a defective mainboard so once i updated the defect affected the phones ability to connect to the wireless network or something. But with the replaced board and with the new software update its working perfectly again.

my phone kind of messed up

I have a problem I dont even know what to do... maybe one of you can suggest me something...
i bought htc thunderbolt on a first day when it came out then some time later after drooling over my phone my boss got one too ;p
when last update came out he went ahead and upgrade his phone and his hotspot feature disappeared, yet i didn't do mine as i still wanted to use that feature...
now i s-off (whatever that is) and i even rooted my phone using this Revolutionary method (without wiping out my phone (thank god)) and i even installed wifi tether.
thankfully i also installed clockworkmod recovery *and* made a backup because every once in a while even though my radio (internet/wifi) is off verizon somehow kicks my phone into enabling radio (internet) and start downloading that update unless i cancel it, obviously when i dont see it i can't really cancel it... so what happened i wake up and i see android dude next to a question mark, my assumption that since i didn't really hit cancel it went ahead and apply update and probably because i mod it it fails somewhere along the line so i have to go to recovery through hboot and restore my backup...
i'm kinda of getting sick of doing it, my voip analog adapter at home died and i'm waiting one from my voip provider, so now my htc thunderbolt acting up with this stupid verizon update so its becoming really hard to communicate with outside world from my walls ;p
so any ideas how to deal with this situation? maybe either disable update somehow (since i've got root maybe *now* i should have an ability to disable it) i mean i even tried another rom: synergy ... oh yeah, apparently that rom isn't compatible with my radio and now i need to flash radio too in order to get that synergy to work... i mean what a pain in the ass this whole mess becomes (thanks to vzw,htc for not giving us gingerbread in october ice cream coming out already and we still using froyo ... so stupid!) or maybe somehow, dont even know if its possible but to apply that update without android dude w/ question mark... maybe roll everything back: unroot it, s-on then update it and back s-off and root it.
i'm confused... anyone?
You don't have to restore a backup to fix the failed update. Just boot into clockwork recovery and wipe cache. I would suggest updating to a rooted version of the newest OTA. Also if you go to about phone or software updates, I can't remember which, there is an option in there somewhere to uncheck scheduled update checks. I THINK that will stop it. If not, updating manually to a rooted version of the update will. Though I think you will have to update your radio with that as well. A custom ROM would also solve this.

[Q] HTC Sensation Z710E ICS update problems

Folks,
My phone is rooted, h-boot. I can't load any custom roms, so I decided to just stick with the stock rom. I received the OTA ICS updated today in the US (t-mobile) and tried to update. It errors out giving me the exclamation sign and green android logo. I've done research and tried to flash the RUU, I've tried several RUU that I thought fits my phone description. Apparently not the case though. Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.
Here is my specs:
phone: HTC Sensation Z710e European non-branded T-mobile
on 2.3.4
Software: 1.50.401.1
baseband: 10.56.9035.OOU_10.14.9035.01_M
The OTA ICS update I received this morning is the following name:
OTA_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_R-1.50.401.1_release_252072fll6erq
It was told at least a million times, that never install official OTAs on a rooted phone. Search the sticky/guide threads for solution.
And when flashing the correct RUU flash it from fastboot and make sure you have HTC drivers (come with HTC Sync) installed.
What's worse case scenario installing official OTA update on rooted phone? I don't care if i lose root or not. I just want ICS.
Problems without root
Hi,
I'm getting the same problem on an un-rooted phone.
The phone died half-way during the update download due to power outage/low battery.
So I deleted the old update file, which was half-downloaded and ran "Check for updates" again. This time it downloaded the complete file, but when it begins installation it's stuck for hours at the Android logo. The update doesn't seem to be installing. Had to re-boot the phone to get the old ROM back without ICS.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Some phones don't like the update mine didn't if you want to try

[Q] Can't Connect to Wifi

I searched around and couldn't find a definitive answer. The problem I'm having is connecting to wifi at all.
After getting a phone replacement, I unlocked the bootloader, flashed CWM recovery, rooted, flashed CM 10 nightly 09/29 and GApps but when I booted, I could not connect to wifi at all...I can't even turn on wifi because the toggle is greyed out. I have tried reflashing several times and even tried a different rom. but still no luck. Anyone else have this problem or know how I can fix it? I rely heavily on wifi because of ****ty data in my dorm. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hello,
What was the version of software on you phone before rooting, was it a T-Mobile phone? The newest version for T-Mobile has created is issues for roms that aren't the same version.

Yep, just found out that was the issue. kinda sucks because I'd rather have jelly bean! Oh well guess I'll deal with no wifi till a fix comes out.
why does the Ruu not work anymore i want to take my phone back to where the wifi works..... i have a cwm backup from before the update but that did not even fix the problem
____EDIT____
Well i got the wifi back. ( and the OTA update ? again )
Relocked the phone boot loader
I opened the RUU
took the Rom.zip from the folder.
took the stock recovery img
flashed the stock recovery img
start the phone back up
downloaded the update again. ( 4.0.4 )
did all the waiting etc
phone powers down reboots applies the updates to it self.
powers back up updating completed
WIFI WORKING.
go to try and do the ruu.exe again but no it says error 140( i think ) wrong bootloader version.
This update changes the bootloader to version 1.14___ So now the phone is non tamperd and says relocked so back to stock ( YAY )(((for now))))( i think lol )
Most importantly the Wifi is working.
If anyone wants i can take and give the files from the RUU ( not the whole zip but what ever img's you want from it ) Just send me a PM i will mail it to ya.

So did you use the 1.84 ruu? And you did this after applying the tmobile ota?

Solution if you are stuck on 2G!!

i found the solution for those stuck on 2g speeds here in the US after flashing an RUU....your phone is probably on ICS 4.03 or 4.04 after you installed the official tmobile RUU...you have to keep checking for software updates on your phone until you get the official JB update installled from tmobile (it was officially posted at the end of April and available as a manual download through the "check software updates" option on your phone). i had to check for updates and install them about 5 times because the RUU i used restored my phone to ICS 4.03...i kept updating until i got to JB (it's going to be very large file, over 600mb).
IMPORTANT!!! --> after the update, your phone will still be stuck on 2g speeds....you them have to do a FACTORY RESET...yes, you have to wipe everything from your phone so make sure you backup to your laptop or something like that and then do a factory reset....once your phone reboots, it should now get 4g speeds (hspa+)...i read through alot of threads since my phone was stuck on 2g after i restored to the official tmobile RUU and finally got it to work after incrementally updating through the "check for software updates" option til the official JB update was installed.....good luck and hope this works for most of those that were stuck on 2g after the previous update!
I tried the above and it did not work. The following did, however, and I GOT 4G BACK on my HTC One S!!
I did not ever have S-OFF, I tried pretty much everything I could think of in terms of factory resets, flashing tons of different ROMs, bootloaders, even going completely stock again with RUU. I'm pretty sure it's a lost cause and a waste of time.
Solution: I relocked my bootloader and sent it in to HTC because I was still on warranty. They had it back to me in a week's time, and 4G now works fine. I'm going to try to find out what they did, whether it was hardware or not. Note: I did get it back with the bootloader being "locked", not "relocked".

Hi,
Did you find out what changed on your new HTC ONE S that fixed the Stuck on 2g issue?

4G? You mean 3G? HOS doesn't support 4G. Anyway, glad you fixed it! Considering the bootloader is locked again, I'm guessing they swapped a few parts?
I'm going to try this. I've been stuck on 2G ever since I updated my HBOOT to use 3.4 Kernel ROMs. I will get back to you to see if this method works for me.
how would you go about doing this method if you are coming from a custom ROM?
I'm on UnKnown v1.8 with S-Off on HBOOT 2.15 if that helps.
Yes, I suppose in the interest of accuracy I got H+ back, which shows as "4G" on the Sense UI. I'm really not sure what they did or how I would find out. According to the timeline they gave me it looks like they only had it in repairs for half a day or so, so it was either a simple hardware issue or some kind of deep software reset I wasn't able to access.
doesn't work. tried it the same exact way you said and it didn't work.still on 2G

[Q] need help please. can't grt phone to activare still

I got my one SV k2_cl from boost a little over a month ago and got the bootloader unlocked and rooted, working fine until one morning it wouldn'tmake calls or texts. I tried to factory reset and when I tried to boot got stuck at the HTC logo. Took me 2 weeks to get it to even flash a Rom on here that will somewhat work. I've got WiFi and partial 3g 4g connectivity but no voice at all. When I try to use the phones its activation tool-error, tried manually programming phone- nothing. I'm stumped. Can someone please help me out here. Don't want to have to buy another phone if I can help it. The only guess I've got at the moment is that if I could get a stock original rom to flash I'd be good to go probably and just hold out on doing anything else to it until after the kitkat ota is launched. The few stock roms I've tried either wouldn't download for some reason or just won't flash right. Thanks in advance for any help guys. I've always been more of a hardware geek more so than software but I can usually muddle through following guides of course.
I'm not much into boost, but did you try to flash the available RUU?
help...
As a matter of fact I have tried that and unfortunetly the installer locked up on a reboot of the phone because the phone wants to do the "Android is upgrading # of #" on every boot. That was why I was thinking since adb/fastboot and the HTC One Toolkit all sorta work that if I could get ahold of a working stock rom to flash on there and I have a stock CWM backup still on my laptop from when I first got the phone rooted and everything working. But of course thanks for the tip anyway. I wish that would work. It seems to be the easiest way to install back to stock.
