Hulu Plus Finally Available - Eee Pad Transformer Themes and Apps

Hulu Plus is available for Transformer on Google Play.
Yay!

Does it have titles that are only available on the Web? (I tried out the app on XBOX and it was ridiculous to pay for a service only to have a lot of the titles available by web only).

The only one I have in my queue that is web only is How I Meet Your Mother. It says it is web only so it looks like they are still blocking certain shows.

So is it working for you guys? I can browse but getting an error when I try to play a show. DRM Engine not supported on this device. I have Codename Android ROM installed. The old hacked app worked fine but the new one definitely looks better.

Yes. I am on rooted stock rom.

And then disables HDMI out on said tablets

I agree with the HDMI output disabled. It's BS that I pay a monthly fee and I can't watch it on my TV.

Is there a fix to make it work on CM ROM?

Response from Hulu - HDMI Output Disabled
Michael K., Mar 30 10:28 am (PDT):
Hi,
Thanks for writing in and sorry for the confusion. Currently we are unable to support the HDMI out feature on the ASUS eee Pad Transformer due to content licensing reasons. We're actively looking into freeing up these rights and hopefully we'll be able to offer it in the near future. In any case, I'm sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.
If there's anything else you'd like addressed, please be sure to let me know.
Thanks,

Typical canned response I got after I asked about the HDMI output being disabled.

No settings that I'm aware of for HDMI. I just plug it into my TV and change the TV input. Can view anything that is displayed on the screen.
Has anyone got this working yet on a rooted device?

Sorry if a solution has already been found but this works as well. The tegra 3 splashtop app is amazing. I'm on my home network and it works perfectly. So I just use the web version of hulu and it supports fullscreen. Don't know how well it would work on wifi discovery. But at least, if you are at home and want to watch through hdmi it works great

netflix on android

well i wonder if the reason it works on the moto tab and the galaxy tab is because they paid netflix? what other reason would they have if i simple file edit fixes it...
This should be in General Discussion. To answer your question: In the case of the Transformer, Netflix themselves nor their app is responsible for it not running on the Transformer. Your theory keeps getting kicked around the forums...the idea that money is changing hands. There is no extortion here. ASUS did/does not need to pay Netflix anything. They just need to compile and include a newer version of libnvomx for the Transformer.
That's interesting, but that's not what ASUS claims. After asking them why there still isn't Netflix support after the 3.2 update, I got this response:
The current version of Netflix available on the Android Market is only supported for Android 2.2 based phones, and not any Honeycomb tablets. While installing the Netflix 1.3 APK has enabled Netflix for other Honeycomb tablets, officially, they are still not supported. At this time, users will have to wait on an updated release from Netflix.

Movies is in my Android Market though.
Maybe Netflix hasn't updated the market yet.
Just root your tablet and take it into your own hands.
netflix and market has nothing to do with it.
sry im on 3.2 and dont feel like downgrading...
You can root 3.2
I did it earlier today and it took like 10 mins. Couldn't have been easier.
Just use the batch script that works for 3.2

So what if it's not out? It's a supported device.
Guys,
The ASUS support rep is wrong. Netflix 1.3 DOES work on Honeycomb tablets, the XOOM being one of them. There is no conspiracy here, no matter how hard you look. When attempting to stream from Netflix on the Transformer using Honeycomb 3.2, you get that error message. A peek in logcat shows the Netflix app yells about not finding function DRM.play inside OMX. This is a function of a NEWER version of libnvomx than ships on the Transformer or in it's updates.
XOOM has newer libnvomx w/ drm.play function = working netflix
Transformer (and other tablets) with libnvomx WITHOUT drm.play = broke netflix
Since the hardware inside the XOOM and the Transformer are VERY similar, I was able to pull the newer libnvomx.so from the XOOM and overwrite the one on my Transformer to make Netflix function. That's ALL the Netflix app cares about. It doesn't care what device you are on, or if Netflix has been "paid" by that manufacturer. That said, because the Transformer IS a different device than the XOOM, things break when doing this. I do believe the only problem on the Transformer that I've seen reported is that the libnvomx replacement breaks WMV playback. Not a big issue for most, tbh. The same fix works on the Acer Iconia, but replacing the file breaks their camera.
You need to petition the manufacturer of your particular device to compile an updated version of OMX w/ the drm.play function and include it in an official OTA.
Otherwise root and replace the file yourself with one from a different device and deal with whatever breaks.
^This is how my Netflix patch works. It's a flashable zip with nothing but libnvomx.so from a XOOM 3.2 ROM. I think we are lucky on the Transformer that nothing breaks except for WMV playback.
well the question is did netflix provide moto with that drm files cause more than likely its talor made for them and it may be the only thing that uses it
It IS about money.
Each manufacturer has to pay software/hardware engineers to design their devices and make sure the device works with Android.
--Some manufacturers are likely paying for more/better engineers.
In our case, it's a matter of Asus paying someone to get Netflix working. As noted above, anytime you make changes on software you might break something else. So the engineer(s) have to do all kinds of "magic" to make sure that something works like it's supposed to without disrupting something else...

No, that's not a realistic question at all. As I clearly stated, the drm functions are a part of OMX. Moto simply is using more up to date libraries in their ROM than ASUS.

Agreed. It is NOT, however, about device manufacturers having to pay some sort of imaginary extortion fee to Netflix so that their app will run on a particular device.

When asking about dock RMA I asked about why Netflix was promoted on Transformer website, by Asus etc...
I got this response.
Thank you for contacting ASUS. I do apologize for any possible inconvenience or confusion you have experienced thus far. Please advise that while a native Netflix application may not yet be available, any development or availability of Netflix service on Android tablets is controlled strictly by Netflix and/or Google, as hardware manufacturers have no bearing or control over when software applications are available for the Android OS. With that said, I believe that a Netflix application for Android is well into development and should be available relatively soon.
Again I do apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you again for your consideration.

All true, but still didn't answer my question.
Only hope is Google/Netflix get things worked out sooner rather than later.
That reply from the ASUS rep makes it sound like they didn't even know that a Netflix app for Android was available. Clueless.

[Q] Anyway to turn off screen while using HDMI?

Hi,
Does anyone know of anyway or of an app, to have the TF screen shut down while using HDMI? I often use my TF to watch Netflix on my TV, I noticed some apps do show a blank screen but they don't shut it down.
Thanks for any info,

With the sotck firmware it's not possible. Maybe with a custom kerlnel. I doubt it though. I have to same issue ;-)

I would like to know more about the tv streamer, I think I know what it is (I have used on PC but never on the TF.

Splashtop hd and note

Hi, recently installed Splashtop HD on the tablet as I needed to check my pc from work.
Noticed while using it that the pen hover is translated to mouse movement on the computer, this is the first time I've notice an application taking advantage of the pen hovering feature on the note 10.1.
Not sure if we have on the market any other applications that use it.
But I was very impressed with it, makes it much easier to controller the pc from the tablet.
Just and FYI

Can you use Splashtop on your tablet and work with Microsoft OneNote and the Stylus?

I tried Jump Desktop and got screen flashes. Didn't do this on my phone. I tried PocketCloud and it doesn't have tablet fullscreen. Splashtop works great but u have to pay a monthly fee to use it away from your home network. -__-. I'm still looking for a better alternative. Jump would be awesome if they fixed the bugs.
Version 1 has no monthly fee

Just wanted to make sure I'm pointing you to the correct one.
I've looked into the app on the tablet and the server on my PC, I don't see any option or information regarding a subscription.
If there's one, I'm totally unaware of it, and is not mentioned anywhere.
This is the exact name, just in case the link wont work : Splashtop Remote Desktop HD
To answer your question... I really don't know I believe the second version is faster?
For what I've done, controlling my PC from work, and the work PC form home. It works perfectly.
It passes audio and video from home, which is a plus, but not the reason why I bought it.

Splashtop 2 Support, Sep 13 23:02 (PDT):
Dear Tuyen,
Yes, you can use Splashtop Remote Desktop HD to setup internet connection between your computer and tablet.
Splashtop Remote Desktop HD is using Google server to setup internet connection, and the performance is not good enough, this is why we developed Splashtop 2. Splashtop 2 relies on our own global relay servers for improved 3G/Internet performance, reliability, and security.
So we suggest that it is better use Splashtop 2 for internet connection.
Consider that you may want to have a try before to buy the AAP feature, here we can help you to apply a special plan (1-Month FREE) for this purpose. If you are interested in it, please provide us your Splashtop Account, so that we can complete the process.

Honestly,
I think they just want to make more money, by having users pay for a service.
I've streamed video from home to work (Hulu) and worked perfectly.
For my specific needs I see no reason why I should pay a service fee.

[Q] FIXED: Amazon Instant Video Lag In Browsers

I could not find this discussed for the TF700T.
Video and audio sync perfectly with the YouTube and Netflix apps. However, I'm an Amazon Prime member and watch alot of Prime Instant videos. Since there is no android app for that I'm limited to watching through a browser. I've tried Boat, the Stock browser, and ICS+. All present a significant lag of video vs. audio. Oddly, I did not have this problem with the Prime I returned for the Infinity.
Anyone else experiencing this? If you were you able to correct it, how?
Thanks
Nobody Has This Issue?
Over two hundred views and no one replies? Really?
You could try browser2ram.
Rooting and installing it has helped me with just about all my browser problems.
Thanks, but I am rooted and browser2ram hasn't helped.
Maybe the issue is on the Amazon server side.
People here don't reply if they don't have anything useful to say.
Wait a few days and see how Jelly Bean handles it?
Other than that, do you have Performance Mode enabled when watching them? Killed all pointless tasks? (Not just in taskmanager.)
After I rooted the device I froze/disabled all the bloatware. I've tried all three performance modes with no change in the video lag.
Does anyone successfully stream Amazon Instant Videos through a browser on their Infinity?
I just checked and i don't have noticeable sync problems. I'm running on 12 meg dsl. My understanding is you need at least 4. Meg to stream good quality. Apps like netflix go through special servers, that help with stream, browser probably doesn't. You cannot really compare. it amazes how low a bandwidth netflix can uses and still look reasonably good.

Just tried it myself and also have the audio lag in the default stock browser using browser2ram. Tried using Dolphin beta, which is usually pretty awesome and pretty damned close to the stock browser using browser2ram in terms of speed and it got hung up going into full screen mode. Flash is so god damned terrible on these devices, flash in general runs like champ on my S III. Very frustrating
Replace It, or Live With It?
Thank you all for the feedback.
Apparently this is not a ubiquitous Infinity issue. Therefore I must conclude something is F**'d on mine. Not knowing whether it is H/W or S/W related I think I'll wait until JB is released and replace the tablet if JB does not fix it. I still have a couple of weeks left on my 30 day return policy.
Again, thank you for the help.
UPDATE: Fixed?
Update: I may have found a fix for this. I was browsing the forum and under the GMAIL Crashes post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877292&page=2 I found a reference to FMR Memory Cleaner and the nvidia kernel driver bug. I installed FMR Memory cleaner and brought up the ICS+ browser. Lo and behold the video and audio are in sync with my Amazon Instant Videos!
It would be helpful if some of you who are experiencing the lag issue will test using FMR Memory Cleaner and post your results.
Thank zenaxe for the tip (I've used up my 8 per day "Thanks").
I've tried FMR memory cleaner and it did nothing to alleviate the audio lag on Amazon videos, I haven't read the thread on the nvidia driver bug but when mine is crashing in a game like Dead Trigger, the ONLY thing that works for me is a complete reboot which is annoying. FMR hasn't really ever helped me with most things except if the tab is being laggy and even then it's not 100% guaranteed to work for me
I've had the sync problem intermittently with flash video from several sources, including Amazon. I think mobile flash is the true culprit, and wouldn't be surprised if the problem recurs for you. Every now and then I try and different browser and think it works better, but eventually, it gets out of sync again.
On the Amazon front, I think the only real solution is the Instant Video App. To my knowledge, no one has either the old gingerbread app or the new ICS app ripped from the fire roms working on other ICS+ devices. Hopefully Amazon gets around to supporting Android in general.

I also had this problem on the Xoom and over on the Motorola forum the culprit pointed to there was Adobe Flash on ICS and Jelly Bean (worked great on HC) on certain processors.
As to Amazon porting their app to Android, I wouldn't hold my breath as my guess is that they don't want to draw business away from the Fire line (I have a Fire and Prime looks great on it). Amazon's Kindle app for Android (even on the Fire) lacks functionality that the original Kindle devices support, e.g., collections. It appears that either their Android development capabilities are limited or they are making a conscious decision not to fully embrace it.
Dave
ps There is a similar thread over on the Themes & Apps Forum -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1803002 On that thread I posted some info on the flash problem that I gleaned from the Motorola Xoom forum.
IMO, it's just a matter of time before the port hits. Fires are meant to sell content, content isn't meant to sell Fires, which aren't exactly high margin if the hardware is profitable at all.
If they were really trying to avoid drawing business away from the fire, they wouldn't have released an iPad app. Hit up their support page and complain, and I think we'll see progress eventually.
I had the amazon apk working on one of the roms on my nook tablet. Changed rom and lost program compatibility. I don't why Amazon does not have app for other androids but they are certainly making the decision not to. I'm hoping when large Fire HD comes out it will work on other devices. Its nice what Fire does for many. Pretty much everything's done in background, my wife doesn't have to do anything, streaming prime is easy.

It's not Cromi it has a problem with, it's Root access. The app locks down if you're rooted (KPN's does it too). For most people it works if you temporarily unroot through superSU. (settings -> uncheck: super user enabled). Just recheck that box after you're done watching TV
What I want to know is when I can finally watch Syfy, 13Th street and BBC 3&4 on Ziggo TV...
I got my dirty mitts on a patched one that should allow root access, but I haven't had the time to test it (yet). Anyone of you wanna have a go? I'll put it on DB.
I flunked it down here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/i8thnyh5lx2a691/signed-ziggo-mod.apk
Give me a holler when it works. I hardly ever watch TV -- Redditors will think "ain't got no time for that" ; ) -- but it might still be nice to have. In bed, or something.
Meh, I am a voracious reader, and will stay that way.
