Set CPU doesn't seem to remember settings very well even though I save them and back them up. I've chosen ondemand profile and still the same problem with not only the settings I've input for battery, screen off, etc but the main screen is constantly different as well.
I'm using SkyIcs with update 7.4 and Faux 10u kernel.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Doesn't matter if its a paid app, but I really need something better that will change the speeds properly as I use this as my "daily driver"
Thanks again!
Brett
System Tuner always worked great for me. In fact, I used it with that same rom/kernel combo with great results.

Awesome! I'll give them a try!
Any idea as to why the readings would be so erratic and not stay within the parameters set?

You already should have faux clock in your apps. It works just fine. You can even undervolt.
I wasn't a big fan of antutu. Setcpu is what I've been using since the beginning.

I dont have faux clock(how do you get it) and my setcpu wont let me play with voltage even though the faux kernel allows it right?

You have to get the .apk for faux clock.
system tuner allows UV as well
I just run a script and dont use any tuners, its cleaner.

Thanks i got it.
found that I have to use sys tuner and fauxclock both w/faux123 kernel for everything to go well ..
won't go into deepsleep unless force both cpus online at boot is enabled
running -.75mv across the board except like 450mhz and under which are all 812mv as per faux's recommendations ..
some phones can handle -100mv some only -.50mv
sorry to hear that about setCPU profiles not working was about to try it tonight.
still might ....
only because I'm amazing
That's no good to use 2 CPU apps. Just run a script and call it a day.

system tuner sets the voltages and forces both cores online (which for some reason is the only way deep sleep works)
fauxcpu maintains the 384-1100'ish because systuner doesnt keep it there apparently ..
so it's no good but does all I need done right ?
it's not bad either ... right ....

Anyone here try setcpu on your Galaxy S 4G?
I'm sure there is some "new and improved software" reason to not need it, but I figured I would try it to see if I could improve battery life in some way.
I'm still tinkering with the settings, but I think I have noticed a slight improvement. If you try it, don't set your screen-off speed to any lower than 400mhz. If you do your phone will slow to an unimaginable crawl, sometimes only to be recovered from with a reboot/battery pull.
Sent from my rooted Galaxy S 4G
You can use it but until there are custom kernels that allow you to underclock or overclock its gonna be a lost cause imo. At this point its only good for changing governors and possibly screen off profiles and things like that

It already hauls once I removed bloatware, my system is pretty "bare bone" now, and it's FAASSSTTT.
That being said, one of the main reasons I upgraded to this phone from my modded HTC HD2 was the battery life was horrible on that phone (comparible to an evo 4g as per many side by side tests with a friend who had a new one).
Battery on this phone is GARBAGE, basically the SAME battery life, maybe only slightly better if at all....
I thought technology was supposed to be improving. I mean I abuse the phone, It's my sole entertainment while I'm at work (I work at a call center). I'm doing things on it 24/7.
But I figured it would perform better than a non-native android phone, modded to run android, that's two years old.. (htc hd2)

TegraK seems to work. It's an "on demand, on the fly" patch that isn't persistent.
I see improvements in benchmarks and reads/writes. So, it seems to work. Every time you reboot though, you have to reset it.

Could some give me a quick rundown on undervolting a kernel. I'm using faux's 0.4.2 oc/uv cm7 kernel. From my understanding its already undervolted but I'm confused about whether I should/can adjust those settings for better results or if I should leave them alone.
Info greatly appreciated.

Each chip is built differently, so you have to experiment on that yourself. That kernel may already be undervolted but it may not be right for you. I say adjust until you hit instability and then go from there.

Yes anytime you make you phone do something it didn't do from the factory there is a chance you could damage your device..its thx to all the great devs and people that test that make it easier and less likely also the more you read and understand what it is you are actually doing to the device helps alot!
If you have a kernel able to be overclocked/undervolted yes just use set CPU to adjust the settings.
All chips are different just cause a specific setting is working for someone else means it will work the same for you!
That being said I use:
Trigger 8/22 rom with faux123'a 0.4.2 kernel.
My settings:
Max-1408mhz
Min-389mhz
And have 1.1 GHz down to 389 mhz undervolted by 50 and no undervolt above 1.1
also have different profiles set for screen off and in call..
Good luck how this helps..

Thank you for such a detailed explanation! I'll be more weary of fooling around with settings. I'll probably set mine similar to yours.
Thanks everyone. I understood that setcpu would be used for the changes I was more wondering what the changes would do. Like undervolting by 50 for instance, what does that give as far as battery life? Im a moderate to heavy user and I only get roughly 8 hours off the charger before it needs to be back on, great signal all day too.
I suppose I'll just have to tinker with it till I get crashes then adjust from there.

How do u get the undervoltage adjustment? i have set cpu and when i try the voltage button on set cpu, i got forced closed. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like a bad install, try uninstalling setcpu then re-installing it or fix permissions in CWM or terminal

fix permissions
Used to have that issue too. Try the setcpu available here on the forums, I think that's the one the worked for me.

Thanks, but now it keeps saying CPU1 is offline?
Keeps force closing, how do I fix it?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
Make sure you un-install old version first or wipe data if coming from an ealier version.
If it says CPU1 offline then it means that it's not needed and has shut down. I have opened it a couple of times and I have seen the second core is online and working but most of the time it is offline... better for battery life!
Working fine for me anyway with ARHD 3.6.7. Undervolted -50mv too.
Phil
Running stock ROM with faux123's kernel.
When CPU0 keeps staying at 1.5GHz, CPU1 still says it's offline.

I have the same, even when using the performance setting. Seems a bit odd, no matter what I use the phone for as soon as I open fauxclock one cpu is always offline. Did anyone have this on earlier versions?

I think that's just the aSMP architecture/Kernel. IRC the performance governor just fixes the speed at the maximum specified, it doesn't force both cores to be on.
I'll stick with 0.8.0, it does FC the first time after a re-boot but works fine after that. I like the screen off/on settings.
On another note I did find Faux123 0.2.3b9 best for my setup, lowest drain. I've not tried any other non Faux123 kernels yet.

I think it was all tied in to the Faux Thread. Since he's unfortunately stopped working on Sensation Kernels that thread has been closed.
Look in: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4550-app08-beta-snapdragon-dual-core-oc-control/
TBH, I don't even know if it's compatible with other kernels, don't see why not but never tried. I guess the GPU and UV setting might not work with non Faux kernels.

What do you need the phone to do if you want it to be constantly at 1.5ghz?
You can try using Faux's or Trinity kernel. Both have versions that are already UV'd upon flash. Although some chips can't handle UV. Also, I believe you have to use a different app to control your voltage.
When i play games or watch movies i set it up to 1.5ghz and since school is out and no job... im kinda on my phone for a few hours. Also, i tend to forget to turn it down.
Oh yea my bad, its cpu master. I tried -100mv to all frequencies and it'll work for like a minute then it'll freeze and have to pull out the batt.
I'll check out those other kernels but this one has really fast boot. Although, which of the other kernels gets updated the most?

Faux boots up in less than 30 seconds for me so give that a shot. Both Faux and Trinity get's updated very often. So you can't go wrong with either.

aaahh yea im starting to c wat u mean. keeping it 1.1 and its still good. got used to the old phones under 1ghz and single core.
oh, do guys have to links to the kernels? im trying to find it but its usually part of a rom.
Go in the development section and look for [kernel] in the titles and not ones that say [rom].
Im trying to undervolt with system tuner ( also tried faux clock same thing ) .. I change the settings to my liking... and i can see the speeds and they have been aplied, but after I exit out of the app and go back in the min cpu speed is set to the same as my max!!
Any fix?

No, it shows that its been running at 1.3ghz ( the max i set it at ) for 50% of the time.. I set the min. at 384mhz and when i check back it pops back up to 1.3ghz
for the min.
Not sure if its working but SetCPU seems to override system tuner settings while still hopefully keeping it undervolted, so yeah..
