Ok, so i did a lot of research on HTC Sensation battery, and turns out its not an environment friendly battery. Infact if you've noticed, our phones heat up a lot and SUCK the hell outta the battery. HTC has to do something about Sense taking up so much RAM and memory.

RAM and memory are the same in the context you used. And what does RAM usage have to do with the performance of the stock battery? NOTHING. RAM being used does not drain the battery faster. In fact, I want my RAM to be used, not just sitting there doing nothing. As long as whatever is using the RAM releases it when I need it for something else (sense does) I'm happy.

Ya, I'm not too sure what the extensive research has revealed...the OP doesn't substantiate why stock battery has issues. Or what it has to do with RAM usage. Sure the battery has small mAh...but it doesn't require a lot of research to see that (as it is written on the battery).

Its not only the Sensation that has this 'issue'.
Its common knowledge that any smartphone has poor battery life.
Not really gonna last much longer than a day.
At the end of the day, we are probably near the top limit of what Li-Ion batteries can do; Need a new type of technology to supersede it.
(PS, the most I got out of one charge cycle on my Sensation was 1 day, 11 hours and a few minutes - not too shabby I'd say)
The main problem is that all the latest phones has to be so f...... superslim.
Who cares if the phone is one or two mm thicker if we get an ekstra day of battery life?
I don't wear tights and my pockets can take it

PLEASE stop making this comparison. Just because the frequency off the processor is similar does not mean they will act at all similarly in regards to energy consumption. proof: That laptop is getting 3-4h off of a battery many times the capacity of our batteries and many times the volume of the entire sensation. The laptop was designed for 100-150 watts of power, while the average phone is designed for less than 5. Sense is ABSOLUTELY NOT built for the best performance, as many custom roms have proven, and there is absolutely no way that modern, high tech tiny phone-scale dual core processors would be similar to 2007-era computing hardware in any way except for the number of cores and frequency. Also: Frequency does not mean everything. it only measures how many times the processor cycles. The important number is instructions per cycle or instructions per second.

here is my version why its getting hot and why the batt is ''draining''
sinse the sensation comes with an underclocked 1.2 ghz DUAL core (most people clocked it back to 1.5ghz and some higher like me 1.7 or even 2.1ghz)
and a 4.2" qHD screen its quite understandable why the battery is draining..
those hardware specs needs a lot of power (duh)

You can't really compare a mobile phone and a laptop lol. A laptop has much more processing and graphic power as compared to a mobile phone.

You do realise that Packard Bell laptop is rated for anything between 50W and 100W TDP, yes?
Your phone generates a tiny fraction of that. The two are not comparable simply because the clockspeed is similar.

Your really comparing apples to oranges right now. These phones and the chips were designed with low power consumption in mind as well as heat so it doesn't damage anything in there, also a laptop like a member above said, has a whole lot more components than a phone. We're talking about harddrives, big 13-17in screens, WiFi, a bunch of other misc things as well.

but most things we do on our sensation can we also do on the laptop
like mailing, chatting, editing text, internet, skype, video's, and so on
i mend with the hardware that a 4.3'' qHD screen is using a lot of power
and a cpu at 1.5 or even 2.0 GHz is also using a lot of power

Nothing like a laptop. Poor analogy, can't forget to mention HDD. Mechanical hard drive will use much more energy than flash memory found in phones.

Ok, ill just tell you where I'm up to here... I bought the XE, about a week ago after upgrading from my DHD. And ever since I started the phone up, I realised compared to DHD it is mega hot.. now before you point out, I do know XE has dual core .. I play games, browse websites, facebook etc.. and I find the phone getting extremely hot to the point I've been monitoring it all the time..
Browsing websites, I've seen temps of around 57 Celsius
Playing games, I've seen temps at 69 Celsius
Normal idle is usually hovers between 30-45 Celsius
I don't know if these are normal for a phone, but in a cold room my mobile acts as a radiator.. sometimes its that hot I feel I shouldn't be touching it..
I had my first one last week and I got the exact same result.. rooted and stock.. Sebastian kernal and stock.. ICS/GB.. and everytime the result is the same.. so I took the phone back to carphone and they replaced it with a new one..
This is what is confusing me about whether this is normal, because the outcome is exactly the same... I've underclocked, it did nothing.. it is also nothing to do with my battery as it usually sits at a comfortable 25-37 Celcius and only rises due to my CPU heating my entire phone and also my entire home..
Could someone please help me with a little info on whether this is normal.. or whether I'm entitled to a complete different handset as carphone as the overall experience with this overheating is making me a little edgy as to keeping the phone incase it explodes..
Right now my CPU temp is 59 Celcius, and that's just typing this message "/..
It happens on both XE's and I'm using system tuner to record CPU temp

My Sensation also gets hot, but not that much. Maybe 43 Celsius the max temp It has reached. The problem its because of HTC's cheap battery mainly. Though you shouldn't expect your phone to be cool when it's having a load of charge (process) to deal with

you can definitely expect your sensation to get hot every now an then. especially while charging and doing anything mildly intensive. usually while playing games like dungeon defenders my phone gets super hot even through the TPU case. it's nothing out of the ordinary though so don't worry. it won't explode in your pants

To check your CPU temp just use system tuner from the market.. and for your battery temp, just search for a battery monitoring app I forgot which one I used as when I found it wasn't my battery I uninstalled
My sensation also gets hot all the time on heavy use.

Open phone dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
You can remember the "4636" part by seeing that it stands for "info"
This will only show the battery temp tho, but you don't need any 3rd party software
i been gettin same readings on my sensation xe im scared to play games for to long in case it causes a problem with the cpu / gpu... usualy playing games like real racer 2 i get temps up to 70c, i use system tuner to monitor temps..
Look like I had worse temp compare to everyone here.and I wasn't even playing a game.because sensation was too hot to touch.
Here are some pictures and what you said about underclocked is true. It doesn't make any difference and the phone still get very hot.
A new battery may bring your temps down...

i have the same problem, but not that bad. it maybe goes up to 50-60 degrees.
i tested many different roms and kernels.
i have to confirm: underclocking does nothing it still gets hot. i cant say if its the battery from htc, but i can test that soon. i order an anker from amzon. have heard that one is better in other posts here.
i also noticed one thing today. it gets terrible hot while charging and doing stuff. so i tried to charg it from my pc and it does not get that hot anymore. maybe its the charger itself, but i can not confirm that, because it gets hot when not charging to.
what i also saw is that its not that bad anymore after i got a new rom an new kernel. im on vipers and bricked kernel with default settings. no setcpu or system tuner installed.

I currently own and use a HTC Mozart on WP7.5 but since I got myself a 3D monitor and soon a 3DTV I have got interested in changing over to the LG Optimus 3D apart from the obvious software difference (please note I have previously had HTC Desire/Desire HD/Legend etc so I am adapt to Android) I have to look towards the Optimus as no-one near me has the EVO 3D for sale

Good luck 3D is the only good part about it. If you're interested i can sell you mine with 2 xtra batteries. One 3500mAMP with extra big back plate.
Yeah i would honestly advise against getting one. Ive had it with running out of ram every few hours.

Why do people complain about battery life surely it depends on usage?
When I had my Desire HD others were getting between 15-24 hours whereas after getting optimal charges I was getting between 24-36 hours. I am not a 'heavy' user but it does usually take me a good week or 2 to get to an optimal charge.
Compared to the DHD
Battery:
Idle battery life is similar (around 6-15% a night on 3G)
Music playback battery usage is significantly lower. (i get around 20 minutes to the percent on O3D, 4-8 on the DHD)
Screen on battery life (any brightness) is lower than screen on Max brightness on the desire hd - I get at least 4 hours of continuous screen on with 100% brightness on the Andrev 6.31 rom, whereas i can barely get 4 hours screen on time on any O3D ROM @ minimum brightness.
Screen on + Gaming battery life is significantly lower. I sometimes don't even get 1 minute out of 1% on the O3D.
Other:
O3D slightly faster
Sense is awesome, LG launcher is horribly fail and laggy.
The stock LG lockscreen takes around 1-2 seconds to appear after opening the screen whilst DHD is instant. This isn't due to the phone itself, as when PlayerPro replaces the lockscreen, starting up in instantaneous.
The DHD camera is much easier to use. LG camera takes 3 seconds to start, and another 3 to take a photo. Quality wise though, LG is similar, even though DHD's is 8mp.

Since you are mainly interested on the 3D features, the on-screen 3D experience of the Optimus 3D is way ahead of the EVO 3D; there is absolutely no comparison between those too. As for playing the O3D videos on my 3DTV the quality (up to 720p) and the 3D effects are very good.
Regarding the rest of the O3D features pros and cons, you could stay with the Froyo or upgrade to GB which has increased battery life but it suffers from ghost calls (with some people/phones).

As for battery life I don't expect it will last as long as a 2D phone but IMHO the battery life is all down to correctly charging the phone (when I stick a phone on charge I never take it off charge until 100% even if I do take it off charge at say 75% I always let it run down then charge it overnight) and how much usage the phone gets eg, heavy use could be 6-12 hours very lite use 24-30 hours.
I should of been a little clearer on my question, my main question other then the one answered above is on general app performance, sound quality and usability how does this phone fair?

General app performance is pretty good. It plays most GPU intensive games well. The only games i've experienced lag for is GTA III and Dungeon Defenders. All converted 3D games lag.
Sound quality is excellent compared to other devices I've used.
However, you'll probably have to at least install a new launcher. The LG launcher is laggy, and pretty horrible. Most other LG apps perform poorly as well - the lockscreen takes around 1-2 seconds to start, the camera takes 3+ seconds.
Please do not get one, there are great when they work, sadly LG software support is awfull and with all the various different issues I genuinely couldnt recommend an LG phone to anyone.
I decided to take the plunge and changed from my HTC Mozart to the Optimus 3D (secondhand) and so far I am not disappointed,
Things I was expecting:
1, slightly lower battery duration (still in the process of priming my battery and so far I have got just under 23 hours medium usage)
2, it was already on GB 2.3.5 (V21A), kernal 2.6.35.7, build GRJ90 so was expecting some of the GB issues
3, half expect ghost calls but had zero ghost calls
Wasn't expecting,
1, odd battery stats (but after reading the threads on here looks like it is normal for GB on O3D)
2, better quality video recording (compared to me HTC Mozart which struggled on 720p recordings)
So now just waiting like other O3D users for a further update from LG but I am very happy so far with my choice. Come off it Samsung Galaxy 1 and 2 users suffered from various issues so no phone is perfect

I haven't had converted games lag but I use Juwes ram manager to set ram to hard gaming if I play a game and am low on ram at the time.
Lg launcher can as you say be replaced. I use nemus launcher but go launcher is also a good alternative.
LG should have put 1gb ram in at start rather than release an almost identical sequel phone with it later on but the phones good. I've considered flashing a new 3D rom but not dared to yet, but have read that using Thaiz rom is good.

Just web browsing over 3g for 20-30 min will heat the phone up pretty warm to the.touch. it also drains about 1% per 1 min of 3g browsing not even streaming. I'm still on 1.73 att. No apps in background and there is no idle battery drain. Is this normal? I'm guessing not brightness is set way under half
This happened to me only when I'm on like YouTube for a while but mine reaches like 110° F :-(

mine gets hot as well just by browsing. it is right on the bottom left of where the camera is
If I just check FB or draw something, this phone will start searing my thigh when I put it back in my pocket. This phone is definitely HOT(not in a good way...)
I have had 0 heat issues (can only feel it heat up while charging)
Maybe this is because I had the iPad 3, so nothing seems hot in comparison

Maybe someone should make a poll because I'm having zero heat issues. Played few games the other day while waiting for my gf's OBGYN doctor to come in and check out our soon to be baby and we was playing for a good half hour. Barely any heat at all. Charging produces hardly any heat if any heat at all (noticeably anyways).
The highest I've seen so far was 41C while using wifi tether. Since I came from Nitro HD, which goes to 63C when voice talk on skype or gtalk, and makes your brain boil, this didn't bother me a bit...
Mine only gets hot when I use google navigation, which is understandable. It gets warm when I play hanging with friends, but in my experience that game spikes the processor the entire time it's open.

No heat issues at all for me, I tried to put as much load on the phone as I could to test this issue and all is well, it got warm to the touch but no more than any other smartphone I've used in the last ~6 years...
41c is not hot. My Atrix used to rocket up to 60-70. That was too hot. Think about it: 104 is barely warm enough for a hot tub. You can run a fever of 104 and be ok. Yeah, it's high for a person, but come on - dual 1.5ghz with a HD screen? They can't make that stuff make cold instead of heat!! Just saying...
It stays well under 50c. In my mind... *perfect*

Indeed it does! Thanks for the laugh also. I can't see that too many things would warm up the phone more than that. You are using the internet, GPS, and putting a heavy load on the battery at the same time after all.

I am coming from an LG Thrive and using GPS never got as hot as this phone or got hot as fast either. The only time it did get hot was if the sun shined right on it. I put my screen to never shut off and run google maps so that it would update to latitude. The HOX definitely gets very hot on a cloudy day when my Thrive would be just warm if that

Just so we're clear, good build quality will often make the exterior of a device hotter. This helps keep the all-important interior cooler. Having my phone feel hot while being measurably at reasonable temperatures is good! You must be careful not to base your opinion of the device's thermal management on subjective senses rather than measured fact.

Oh I don't doubt that the phone has better thermal management. I was nearly stating the fact that it gets very hot when placed on your lap and doing nav... Can't really argue that one.

And I won't argue the subjective notion of heat on your lap during nav! I know 105-110 feels pretty doggone warm (I had to check the temp to make sure it wasn't overheating), but if the exterior is only a couple degrees different than the interior...? That's good stuff right there.
My phone does seem warm to me now that i think about it but it seems to happen when it wants..
yesterday i noticed it would get pretty warm (not ridiculously hot though) when i would be on it for a few minutes (texting, tweeting, the usual).
but then today it was just fine. it was warm but not like it was yesterday.
not sure if i'm just not used to having a phone with this type of casing, (i had an Inspire previously and it didn't seem to get too hot.) i would figure a phone with a plastic or similar material casing would feel warmer compared to something like with a metal back (correct me if i'm wrong )
I don't think that this phone should get hot. It uses a 28nm process while being just a dual core processor. I think that the voltage might be higher than it should be. We need custom kernels and roms for this baby!!!

Could be the system memory. Could also be WiFi/radio.
