Hello, I am new here and a rookie (or noob), I rooted my Inspire the other day (xda Hack Kit) and would like to install a custom rom (Android Revolution HD). The problem is I can not figure out how to load the zip file onto my sd card. I know this has probably been asked before but I have been looking for 2 days and can't find the answer.
I have the file on my computer just need to know how to load it on my phone and I know I can handle it from there. Thank you so much

If you are having trouble copying files to your device from your pc you may want to take some time and learn what our doing before you brick your device. Mainly now that you voided your warrenty by rooting it.
Plug your device into the PC and select mass storage and then copy the file to it.
My phone is over a year old so there was no warranty to void. As for having trouble, yes I may be having a little but I am a very smart person. I know about the mass storage to transfer files. My problem is the mass storage is not were it is supposed to be. I have looked in 2 areas under the SD & phone storage and also under wireless & networks and it is not under either one.

When you plug in the device you will get something in the pull down that says Connect swap files. Or if you are on an HTC rom then you will get a popup asking to pick a connection type.
Thank you, I'm at work now so I will try that tomorrow. Just wondering when I plug in to the pc what connection will I be looking for?

I flashed the Android Revolution HD 6.3.2 yesterday and my phone is fantastic very fast. So everything worked out good. Thank you for all your help. One quick question though is the new version 7.0.3 stable now, I know they were having a problem with tinny sound and the GPS. Thanks

Some of you may know me and some not. I was asked to help out on the SK4G development, so here I am.
I have some questions first.
1. You are using CWM?
2. Amend or Edify?
3. Do you have the drivers and adb set up yet?
Depending on the answers I can put out a couple of tests and then get to work on this.
I will need your newest deodexed framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk, settings.apk, services.jar - and others as needed.
If you do not have a deodexed rom yet then I need a copy of your systemfs.rfs or a full odin to deodex it myself. I have the system dump, is this your newest rom? If so then I have already deodexed it - just let me know.
1. Yes, the epic 4g version which is buggy
2 don know
3.yes
Sent from my SGH-T839 using Tapatalk
1) No. It doesn't sound like the currently available CWM firmwares work well on the SK4G. I am waiting for one designed for this hardware. I have run CWM on other handsets, of course.
2) No. Had not heard of those until you'd mentioned them.
3) Yes. Working well. We're all set here, at least.
System dump: There only seems to be one ROM/firmware version for this phone so far. The one you have should be current. I pulled mine in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037403&page=5
Specifically here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13210149&postcount=59
I'm happy to help further. Please simply let me know what you need.
And thanks for taking this on! This could be a solid phone without some of the bloatware trash foisted on it.
1. They are using the one click root for the epic by noobnl which installs CWM 2.5.1.0
2. Amend though can't you just use update-binary and make it compatible with both

Yes, but I am old school and still use amend most of the time and needed to make sure it was going to be compatible.
Once I see some feedback on the theme I posted I will move forward - I just need to know how it turns out so I will have a better understanding of the phones layout.
Might need to send Koush a message and see if we can get a proper recovery going.
I really would love it if this phone got some custom roms. I don't want to get rid of it. But I put a ad up on craigslist to trade for a mytouch 4g.

Also as far a getting a proper working recovery, i think we may need a recovery that supports the ext-SD card. our internal memory isnt used by us because its so small. its used for things like installing apps i believe. if you use a file manager you'll see the only available SD card is the external one and same when mounting the phone. i think the epic and vibrant recovery would work just fine except we'd need one that supports the external SD card.
there is a kernel called dead horse that i used on my vibrant that had this support for ext SD but i dont think theres a way to get just the recovery out of it. hopefully someone might know a way to direct CWM to our ext SD then we might be on to something ..

Its just a driver issue. We need to know exactly which SD card reader is in the phone and see if we can contact the manufacturer for the source.
I do not know how to decompile things like drivers, but I would like to know so I could get the ball rolling on this.
I'd love to see development pickup on this phone.
I've had my G1 since Dec 08 and happily rooted and did whatever I wanted to do it with the huge support from the developer community that the G1 received.
I'm keeping myself stock until someone gets Clockwork working with nandroid and there's an unroot method.

Same as the Vibrant, but theirs is mounted to internal sd. I would just need to switch up some stuff.
1st and foremost.... I need your guy's initramfs from your kernel
Idk too much about the initramfs nor how to extract it.
If I'm right the zImage is the kernel maybe this could help you so I've uploaded it to dropbox aswell.

If it needs to be done from our phone could you point us in the right direction on how to get the initramfs.

Hello
I have just ordered a Moto Xoom from the UK.
I'm writing this thread to ask a few questions. I have a htc desire, which is rooted and running successfully for over a year, so I understand rooting to a extent.
1) Does the SD Card on the Xoom now work?
2) Is there any one click type solutions for the Xoom? Eg the desire had unrEVOked.
3) Are more apps being made compatable? Or is it like the iPad whereas iTouch apps look small ?
4) With the Addition of AdwEx, is it worth rooting?
Sorry for the slightly newbie questions:$ Thanks in advance !
Search the dev section. You will find what you seek.

I suggest going to the General section and finding the Xoom Heaven thread. There's lots of info there. about rooting, great apps to use, all about recovery, etc.
There's a new universal root tool, but one-clicks as such don't work so far for the Xoom. You need to set up what you need to use adb and fastboot on your pc, hook up the xoom, oem unlock, flash the CWM recovery, and flash the Xoom root zip, then a custom rom and/or kernel if you like. The Xoom is great out of the box but unbelievable when rooted/customized.SD card works. Lots of great tablet specific apps--more everyday.
Thank you for the reply , I'll check out the thread
So to double check SD card access works without root?
And why is rooting better for the xoom?
Thanks again

If I'm not mistaken, native SD Card support came out with Android 3.2.2 (been awhile since I was out in the game, when I jumped back in everything changed xD ).
With the xoom rooted, you'll be able to back up your whole system, strong support for SD Card support and support for using USB Thumbdrives as well.
There are some 1 click root out there that's more like 100 clicks (pretty much you click, read what the message tells you to do and follow. Like it'll tell you what to do when you in fastboot and to unlock the bootloader, etc, but not sure how up dated it is, it's usually better to just do it manually).

I've been rooted since the start, so from my understanding, the most recent update gave read-only sdcard access. But rooting gives r/w access, usb host mode, overclocking, over/under volting, and a whole slew of user controls and improvements, depending on which rom/kernel you flash. I recommend it for the additional smoothness. ADW EX only makes it better.

Usb host mode gives you access to thumb drives and external harddrives, like WD Passport. You can also use a usb keyboard and other devices. You will need a USBOTG cable to access host mode.
Ok thanks so read only you can play music or install apks you already had on the SD? (hypothetically)
And yeah I love root on my desire but I'm not so sure about my new to be xoom, some review videos show the xoom being quick anyway an I don't really see many custom roms, so basically wondering should I aha
Sorry! And thanks
Ps) newest stock launcher vs adw?

Hi there! I run the Xoom Heaven thread. I was just glancing through this question thread and noticed my thread was mentioned by good old okantomi. If you need any root answers, please ask away on Xoom Heaven.
HI Guys
so here is the thing , everything was working fine, until i flashed ICS the stock rom with CWM, right after flashing my pc was unable to recognize my Transformer as a USB device.
Every time i connect it my transformer freezes for a few seconds and then nothing happens, and on my computer screen it doesn't even recognize a new USB drive.
I tried to connect it to two different computers and the same thing happens which means the problem is with my transformer
Afterwards i Flashed Revolver rom but i still have the same issue
Any one had the same problem? any possible fix for this problem
Edit: Charging Works fine
Thanks
Update: Strangely when i tried to connect the USB when i am on the recovery menu the computer was able to recognize my transformer, ADB was installed but not the MTP so the problem is not a cable or computer problem something much be wrong
I used ViprerMod to root my transformer and i am using Rogue CWM
Thanks
Just flash this update on top of your ROM

Slight hi-jack but I have a question about this.
I updated OTA from scratch (meaning a full and complete wipe). I plugged my tablet into my PC and it downloaded all the drivers. Great!.
I have my Titanium backup folder on the Internal (for some unknown reason why I did that) and I want to put it on my External. I plug the tablet into my PC and the media device icon pulls up. I click on it and both drives pull up and I can open them. Now I want to take my Titanium folder from the internal and put it on the external with just drag and drop. So I drag and drop, only when I click on the folder in the external (tried it to a temp folder on my PC desktop too) it shows as empty. I have USB debugging on and MTP is checked. I have also been able to transfer pix, .zips and other misc files over while inside the tablet with Root Explorer, it is just that the Titanium folder will not cross over for some reason.
Ideas? I did the OTA so not sure that flashable bootloader.zip will work. I am just missing something and I can't figure out what it is. I know they did away with Mass Storage mode with HC and not ICS. How can I get it over there?

Back then I use to use Root Explorer and copy the whole folder over to external sd card. Now TB have the option to backup directly to external sd card.
Ya, but my dumba$$ pulled a copy of my TB from my phone with all my backups (PowerAmp, Jango Music, At-Bat,...) and installed it on the external when I first got the tablet and then copied it over to the internal (because I didn't know there was such a threat of losing internal on this tablet) once I got a new external I wanted to move it back.
I know that in TB you can set the backup destination to wherever you want it to be, but this is an existing backup folder that I am wanting to move. Wonder if I can put it in my dropbox (900mb- but can be trimmed down for some apps that I know don't work and general cleaning house) and pick it back up to my PC and then transfer it over to external?
Edit:: I used Root Explorer to try and copy it over and let it run all night and when I woke up it was still cycling the icon in the center of the screen, 6hrs later.

One other thing i should mention is that i already tried flashing this stock rom once before i flashed revolver rom and i had the exact same problem
i mean first flashed ICS CWM flashable >> USB not recognized
Then i tried with the ICS revolver rom >> Same thing USB not recognized by the computer
All what happens is that my Transformer freezes for a few seconds and nothing shows up on my computer
It sucks not being able to connect your device to the computer i mean it is kind of a deal breaker
Any ideas?

Motorola Droid Ultra Erased....HELP. Thanks to anyone out there who even takes the time to read or reply. I get that my issue is probably petty in this forum but I just want a simple answer of move on it is impossible or you can try this. I am a complete newbie so pardon my lack of knowledge on the topic.
I had my phone locked with a pin. My darling six year old entered the pin however many times it take for it to magically start erasing itself. (BTW this is the second time this has happened and I thought I had safe guarded it from happening again.) I don't care about anything but the photos that I lost. Is there anyway to recover the photos or should I just move on and forget? I have not been using it hoping that there was a way to root the phone and recover something but upon reading lots and lots of things I think I am screwed because my phone is version 4.4.4. Can someone confirm or deny.
Thanks again for taking the time to read.

I tried that but because the phone is not recognized as a drive on computers there is no way to access the files for data recovery. Even programs that say they can to end up failing and the phone needs to be rooted.

No. I tried to recover the files immediately after it happened. And found out about the USB Mass Storage no longer being an option in Android 4.0 phones thus causing issues for recovery. Everything I read then said the phone would need to be rooted but I am running version 4.4.4 and everything I have seen has said thus far it has not been done.
Can't you just boot the phone up and use it ad a USB device in android. You can clearly see your downloaded files and such without being rooted

I am not following what you are saying. The files were deleted so nothing shows. I need to use a recovery program to gain access to the deleted files but cannot get to them without being able to access the phone as a USB storage device...not a camera or device which is all that is able to be done with MTP/PTP.
unless you backed them up somewhere that's not on your phone then i don't think you can recover them

Yes nothing shows but you want to recover deleted data from your phone. The only way is to mount the phone. So you can mount the phone in android when you transfer music and pictures from computer and phone it shows up as a drive in my computer. You can use data recovery software and run it on that drive. You don't need root since your pictures were not stored in the root of the device

Hey Guys,
Brand new to XDA and new to messing with my phone in anyway, I looked through some threads, but am not sure if I can mess something up worse by not following the right steps,
I basically bought a used phone on craigslist, AT&T LG G FLEX 2 - LG-H950 and when I factory reset it, many of the default apps are not installed, cannot use my calendar and the phone is just a little off all together.
Not sure if the phone is still rooted or if the factory reset cleared it, and I am all together worried that the only reason the kid sold it to me was because he messed it up and couldn't fix it and just pawned it off to my dumas
I know its frowned upon to start new threads when the answers are out there, but i need this for work ASAP and if I screw it up and cant use it all Ill have to go back to my work iPhone (last resort, i hate it)
I started to follow hyelton's video http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785089
but got cold feet when i couldnt find my exact model the h950
It is currently on the android 5.0.1 and when i tried the update before i reset it, it said i couldn't update it something about the root. So i reset it and everything is the same as when I bought it on CraigList.
How do I get it back to square one, like it came in the box. I am interested in learning how to root and be in control of my own property, but I just want to get back to the start safely without bricking it so I can follow the forums and not feel so helpless.
im sorry if the first response to this just point me to another thread, but I will appreciate even that much guidance so at least i know i am headed in the right direction
Thanks a lot xda community

Factory reset won't remove root BTW. Recent Android phones seem to perform an integrity check prior to updating that fails when root is present.

Just read that to get the phone back to stock, then you'll be able to upgrade to 11x (5.1.1) and eventually 11z.

cool, thanks, one more question
I made an account with MEGA
downloaded the Flex2Tool 1.4.1 and unzipped
downloaded the system.img.gz
Started watching your video. however i am not bricked.
it has missing default apps and it says this device is suspected in rooting, software update is not available for rooted device.
so what is my first step after downloading these files. do i connect phone to my computer and open up the flex2tool and
select variant 1 which is H950 v10d etc
then do I select 1 , ( i do not need anything on the phone.)
or move straight to variant 2. restore unroot stock system.
if i do that next where do I put the system.img.gz file on my phone. anywhere in the internal memory and before or after I reset it?
sorry for all the questions and thanks for all the help. i am very new to doing anything besides calling or texting on my phone

1. You first need the LG USB drivers for the Flex to be installed
2. The system image file (gz) will have a .img file inside that's about 4GB, so unzip the one you downloaded with 7zip, preferably from a PC. Put the .img file on the root of the phone's internal memory before proceeding. You'll also want USB debugging enable and disable the verify over USB option
3. Once file is on phone you can continue with the tool, it will eventually go into download mode & show ## when finished

okay i did that but
I dont understand your last thing >>>>"You'll also want USB debugging enable and disable the verify over USB option"
when i have my usb connected the phone gives three options
1.Charge Phone
via usb
2.Media Sync (MTP)
3.Send images (PTP)
When restarting the recovery tool after img. has been installed to root of internal storage. do i just start program or do i need to turn off phone or reset it or just run it with the MTP

Like that. Check that the USB debugging icon shows in the notification area while USB is connected as MTP. Then you can start the tool. Be sure that the .img is present on the root(sdcard0) prior to letting the tool reboot the phone.

Did you remove the USB cord, then re insert after ##? The tool will reboot for you, and are you back into the OS now?

Probably a good idea. I think the previous owner was trying to delete some of the bloatware and didn't properly restore the phone before selling it, not sure if that was done purposely or not.

okay, i reset it but still dont have default apps
the default apps for the calendar which was my original issue still is not there, just a generic Android icon. because there is no default it will not allow me to sync calendars, also no default messaging app.
not sure if this just put me back to 5.0.1 which is where already was but i am still missing default apps to make the phone run smoothly,
any ideas on what i may have done wrong

Super noob
Looks like it came unzipped when I downloaded from Mega. Icon is a blank paper folded too right corner and reads system.img.gz and 1.6 gb which is what I copied to the root storage and then followed everything else and did it again starting from scratch and still have generic icon without the default apps like calendar, browser, and messaging. I'm trying tho. Been reading forums since last night with no luck
I do appreciate everyone's help tho,
And ace there is no calendar under apps

You need to unzip that file
.gz like .rar or .zip are different types of compression, so download the latest version of winrar or use 7zip, you need the system.img file (4gb)
