[Q] Can I multiboot Kyrillos 10 & ICS AOKP using MultiOSData? - Galaxy 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I've not really been able to find any super-clear information about what the Multi-OS Data kernel option does. I'm wondering whether I can use it to multiboot CM7 and ICS AOKP - I have both working nicely on my phone with the multiboot and the ics26 kernel by Arakmar.
I know that the data will not be compatible between the two, so my real question is does MultiOSData allow for two separate sets of OS data, or does it share one set between two ROMs? If so, I'm guessing that it's not for me!

well...u can try..it should work...i'm able to multiboot betwen my rom, kyrillos v10 & cm7a7..with multiosdata on....

Yes, but they're both CM7 (Gingerbread) ROMs, whereas I'm talking about one Gingerbread ROM and one ICS ROM - and I don't think they store data in the same way. So if the data is shared it won't work, whereas if it's just backed up for each ROM, then it will!

basically it should work..coz multiosdata is created when you switch rom in cwm...so...that means...if you switch frim.cm7 to cm9/aokp...you'll lose system data...but when you'll backup cm9/aokp rom under multiboot (after you make ur desired settings)...then you'll have ur data back when you'll switch back again...but again...i didn't test out this...but it should work fine

[Q] Backing up Kernels

So my Evo 4g has Fresh Evo installed and is overclocked to 1.26 ghz.
my question is, I know how to back up my Rom using Rom Manager but how do I back up my Kernel? I know that the Kernel I am using will not work with other Roms. I am very happy with my setup but still want to mess around with other Roms.
Also, if I restore to another Rom will it screw up if that Rom is not compatible with this kernel? Last thing, if i do want to go back, where can I get the stock Evo Kernel?
Please help.
From all my testing its seems that clockworkmod backs up the kernal as well. I have different kernals for all the roms that i use. someone correct me if im worng but my hydra kernal does not work with evervolv and when i swich between evervolv and stock roms the kernal changes too
So when you switch between Roms, do you use Rom Manager?
Thank you for your help.
When i switch I reboot into recovery then go to backup/restore and restore the one i want. so if i want my hydra kernal with stock rom ill restor that or if i want evervolv with the kernal it comes with ill choose it. I know its swaping kernals becasue evervolv wont boot correctly with hydra kernal

try g3mod 2.0 b3....it's pretty good ...i checked it for multiboot...
Install cm7 and apply update1.zip and install g3mod 2.0 b3 ...then go to recovery and backup your cm7 ...then put any froyo rom IMG in another folder of /sdcard/g3mod/roms/romname/
then try swithing between roms it'll work definitely......Worked for me....

if you switch from froyo to Cm7...wipe data/factory reset in cwm....and then you restore
cm7 data...if you have backup of it...that works
ps: i hit thanks accidentaly

[PORT from E510]Cyanogemod 7.2 for P500 new baseband + PaoloM70 v6 modded kernel

This is a binary port from CM7.2 for Optimus Hub (E510) by Ricardo Cerqueira (rmcee), since all new LG Gingerbread devices are on new baseband I thought porting this ROM to the O1 will give us a full new baseband compatible ROM mostly because the E510 is very similar to the P500 in hardware, so I cooked it with files and configs from the V20H, mik_os CM7 6.61, Adfad666 CM7.2 F1 and Paolo´s v5 .35 no-touch kernel.
What works:
- GSM/2G/3G (new baseband) Screen menu and in Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Screen[/STRIKE] Fixed with new kernel
Other stuff:
- Doesn´t have FM RADIO
- Tethering menu isn't there (dont know why)
- Its based on the nightly 0 of CM72 for E510, I´ll consider updating only when a stable version come out.
- I'm from South America so the default language is Spanish, you have to change it manually
- With Paolo´s kernel CPU frequencies are not showing on CM's CPU menu, with franco kernel it shows, so if you want to change kernel go ahead, but if you want to keep using Paolo's kernel to change frequencies then you have to use an app like No-Frills Fixed with new kernel
Download [UPDATED 25-01-2011]: http://www.mediafire.com/?lijqy2jgkvb66di
To install you need first to have a V20 new baseband installed, then I recomend to use Amon-Ra 3.06 to wipe all userdata, wipe system/, flash, reboot and dont forget to disable all screen animations.
Full credits go for Ricardo Cerqueira for developing CM72 for E510, mik_os for his awesome work on this device, and Adfad666 for his CM72 F1

UPDATE 25-01-2011
##############
I´ve compiled Paolo's v6 kernel with this patches from Ricardo's kernel:
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/lge-kernel-msm7x27/commit/2d072806eab46b88581eb3b0196aee6163c55e3f
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/lge-kernel-msm7x27/commit/041a1b2034eb747e674d331caa260cc10d833687
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/lge-kernel-msm7x27/commit/9ceac8400f3c427b2cbfb38a5291f81139ab7d71
And also added smartassv2
https://github.com/erasmux/hero-kernel-2.6.35/commit/2ade635b0607acc1ab0ec7f4d274855a9487af57
works fine on nightlies, no blackscreenbug, stable overclock, no wi-fi battery drain. If you want try it:
[Kernel 2.6.35.14 vsync-on] (update 29/01: handsfree button works, thanks to mik_os patch)
And if you loooooove benchmarks
[Kernel 2.6.35.14 vsync-off]
With this I declare this project finished since now we have official nightlies theres no need to port nightlies from other devices, thanks for flashing.

Nice job data works ?
Good job bro...
Hope some screenshoot...
Thx

Why screenshot? It is CM7...
If you still don't know how it looks like...
So, if data is working we can have a "real" build with working data too
Nice
Great to see something new for new baseband!
Nice job!
I think that rom is the best looking for our O1. And based on CM 7.2 it will be wonderful to have it full operating!
Many thanks, and congrats for the effort!
looks promising.
what are the real advantages of the newer base band, if any?
great to see that there are new uprising dev's here..

I'll definitely give this an shot, sounds promising. The black screen bug seems fixed in some kernels.
I'm using mik's cm right now. I'll try seeing if an patch over works from 7.1 to 7.2. Think it would work?

PERFORMANCE!!!
moreover battery life shud increase...but still work has to be done in this regard.
ui shud be snappier.
new baseband meant to better but still in developing stages....
awsome work, hope that it will get bugfree soon, mdroid will be jumping with Joy after seeing this

This is very interesting, I was going to investigate new baseband compatibility in CM7 and you've confirmed it for me, I'll see what I can do to make a native rom compatible with the new baseband.
Give yourself a pat on the back, lots of people will be happy!
Was also looking at it a few days back, read on a blog they added better support for newer Quallcom-basebands (like our phone has)
Since Bluetooth is working does 3rd Party applications like spirit work for FM radio

this would be the start of new baseband cm7 based roms builds!.
Anybody have tried it?

It'll make support for us devs a bit more complicated as we'll now have four possible roms to support:
Old Baseband, .32 Kernel
Old Baseband, .35 Kernel
New Baseband, .32 Kernel
New Baseband, .35 Kernel
If it works I think we (devs + faithful thread supporters) should have a massive push to get everyone over to the new baseband and drop support for the old.
whats the difference between old and new?

Install G3MOD 2.4.1 on Kyrillos 9.5

I have installed Kyrillos rom 9.0 incl non.oc Kernel with odin and updated later to 9.5. Hybrid Data2SD works fine.
Can I simply CWM update with G3MOD_2.4.1_OC.zip ?
I cant find a tutorial for that.
I only found a hint to "wipe Dalvik Cache" after reboot recovery. Is that ok? Is Kyrillos 9.5 and g3mod 2.4.1 compatible? Some users only use Kyrillos 9.4 with 2.4.1...
Thanks, Thomas
i5800, fw 2.2, Kyrillos 9.5 JPU
Should be no problem. If you have doubts you can make a complete backup in cwm.

thanks.. it works fine now!
with G3 kernels you have CWM
Just a hint for kernel updates:
always have a directory with your actual (working) kernel on sd
if new kernel resides in bootloops or whatever, just boot into CWM and install your old (working) kernel
Normally a kernel update/downgrade doesnt require any backup, but youll never know.
always have a backup available (also on PC! -> SD card may crash!)
If you experience any recurrent problems with a new kernel, just downgrade easily to your older kernel via CWM.
Cheers

About your question, i got running on my lg thrive, which is identical in hardware to the lg phoenix; gingersnap, gingerdx, gtr, cyanogen mod 7.2,, only that ones...
Currently joban's kernel is only supported in gingerbread, even in those roms is kind of unstable...
Now, we have a new kernel from the great developer DJnoXd, it supports Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jellybean... But if you are only interested in Gingerbread, tell me and i will pm you a better method to get roms
DJnoXd kernel will work on GB also. Arjen has a kernel that will work on GB too.
joban kernel is old base band... so any p500 rom that is obb will work.

can you give me the link to the rom and kernel your useing
Do I flash the rom then the kernel right after or do I flash the rom, boot up the phone then go back into recovery to flash the kernel
Just figured out djnoxd kernel no good for gb. Found in original development here on xda
Arjens is found at androidcentral under Phoenix / thrive thread
Sorry no links .. on phone.
Flash rom. Reboot recovery. Flash kernel. Recamend full boot. Then flash gapps. But can flash gapps after kernel
iirc I just read the new kernel runs on the p500/505/509, I don't know which one is the phoenix tho
