[Q] Rooting a Sensation with S-ON bootloader 1.27 - HTC Sensation

I am getting a new sensation tomorow my last one died completly on me. I am buying it off Amazon sim free.
If the phone comes with ICS and HBoot 1.27 and S-ON what is the easiest way to get S-OFF?
Can I check my CID and download a 1.27 unlocked firmware from Mikes thread put the zip on the SD card and then flash it, or is there anything else I need to do to unlock and install recovery?

I dont think it will come with ICS on it.
It is too early for sensations being shipped with ICS. If you receive the OTA upgrade to ICS, just dont do not apply it for the time being (IMHO).

Thats what I thought as well just trying to cover all my basis!

I just recived the new senesation this morning at about 10am! Which is actually bad for me as I am on nights and was sleeping
This seems to be a proper HTC sensation this time. The last one I got was a vodaphone which was sim free. This one has rom 1.45 on it and hboot 1.18. I have checked the CID and it is HTC_001. So far I have S-OFF and updated cid to super cid. Then I have upped the firmare to 3.32 and just about to put my own rom on it
Now I can start testing my rom

[Q] RUU and HBOOT screen question

I have a sensation that was locked to orange, i S-Off'd and rooted, and un sim-locked but after the screen started playing up i decided to to unroot and S-On, in case of any warranty issues. When i S-On'd i flashed a stock HTC Europe ROM, if returning for repairs can i use this ROM or do i need to use the stock Orange ROM?
Also when device is in HBOOT, above Pyramid PVT Ship S-On RL it says ***LOCKED***, what does this mean? Does it mean it is not completely back to stock? I cannot see what it means as the device is no longer simlocked as it takes a Tmobile sim.
Thanks

Actually it means that you are back to stock. I take you still have super cid as you flashed different ruu? That would be an instant giveaway that you've tampered with your phone if they happen to check it.

Yeah, i used supercid, i wasnt sure how to find the specific cid for the stock ROM, if i use the correct cid for that ROM will it remove any traces?
Thanks
Thing is now you can't change cid as you are s-on LOL. Keep looking for your original RUU, then s-off, change cid to original one and flash stock RUU.

Yeah i understand i need to return to S-Off thats not the problem, how do i find the cid for the stock ROM? Orange UK 1.35.61.1

Thanks a lot! Exactly what i needed, will be flashing stock Orange ROM pronto!
One other thing, If i have any trouble with my phone, as it is sim unlocked by myself, can they tell this even with S-On, Stock ROM and CID? I know that if you go in there they often ask for you phone number etc, (i could just get a free orange PAYG sim and stick it in if i ever have any trouble) and if i tell them it and its flags up as a Tmobile number will they refuse to repair as well (as they can tell it wouldve been unlocked)? Also the phone was off ebay and i have no proof of purchase, but its in an orange branded box and the phone has orange branding on the back, should this be legitimate proof?
Thanks
My phone was unbranded when I bought it so I can't answer your questions, sorry. I hope some one comes and helps.
Let me know if it works OK to get your CID back to your default, I need to do mine tonight but I'm a bit wary of doing it and the whole RUU process.

Ok i shall do, I hope someone can shed some light!
I have just S-Off'd and written the CID, seems no problem and i am just about to flash the ROM, i shall update you in a mo.
Just follow this guide and you should be fine!
Cheers

Just finished flashing the ROM, everything seems ok, although i now need to edit APN settings as Im using a Tmobile sim and an Orange ROM. Good luck and let us know how you get on, it is reasonably straighforward!
All sorted no problems at all, I just restored stock ROM then changed my CID back to HTC__001 then I put s-on and viola back to stock phone.
Sucks when your used to custom ROMs

Its HTC__001 ,the one you are looking for.
11111111 is SuperCID, if you send it back with that CID, they can tell you've been fiddling..
Are you completely sure HTC_001 is the unlocked cid in Denmark aswell? Coz there's a way to flash it back

EDIT:
Okay so i tried with HTC__001 that wouldn't give me danish language, so i tried again with the Denmark cid and everything works now! Just sure hope thats the cid they use!
Thx for the help !
EDIT:
Once moar
You will need to flash the RUU with superCid, then change cid back to land code and then remove s-off

Downgrade from ICS back to Gingerbread (SensationXE )

Hello,
Upgraded to the ICS Ruu Beta. Happy with ICS even with it being a beta its really good. I'm very unhappy with the battery life though. I can take my phone off charge at 9am , By 2pm my phone is already saying that its going flat and needs charged. By half 3 my phone is flat :'(. The power was never the best but at least I got most of a day from it.
I would love to go to the Orange Ruu . ( As it has the wifi calling option that I really really want!!) . But the one that I downloaded keeps saying that the model ID is incorrect. In the past the unbranded HTC rom was fine. Now after going to ICS I want to go back to gingerbread but I keep getting the same model ID not recognized.
I would love if someone could help me get my Sensation XE running the Orange Branded Rom . ( I don't mind if it had to be a Sensation Rom unclocking my processor ( Giving a better battery life ))
I think the problem is that you have SuperCID so the RUU cannot recognize your device as Orange branded. What you need to do is find the Orange CID and change it back to it via the same method you used to SuperCID.
Why? If there is an Orange RUU then just flash it as Super CID will allow it. If you're getting the Model ID error that's because you've NOT got Super CID as you can't flash a non-XE RUU on an XE model without it
Thanks for your replys,
Whats supercid? My phone was a Phones 4 u de branded HTC sensation XE. Does that mean anything or have I just not understood ?
Jamie
Just had a google to see what it was . I seen a post [First result on google after searching super cid] about it. I have downloaded the file but don't know how to do the commands it says :O. Would getting this working work with the Orange rom? In the past I have had Other roms working via clockwork and had it rooted but dont have any of them options since flashing with ICS Ruu
Edit 2 - **LOCKED** , Pyramid PVT ship S-off RL. Hboot 1.20

[Q] Downgrade from 2.08.401.1 to 1.35.61.1

Can anyone help me ,
I am having to revert back to GB and stock rom for my HTC Sensation for warranty repair, which HTC will not carry out yet as I have long since S-OFF and SuperCID the handset, I have this afternoon tried to revert from ICS 3.32 down to 1.35.61.1 GB, i have gotten as far as getting 2.08.401.1 GB but unable to get the last hurdle from 2.08.401.1 down to 1.35.61.1, I have downloaded the RUU.exe for 1.35.61.1 but it will not carry out flash....
any help would be appreciated
What I've done b4 is dl the 1.17 firmware and then a rom based of the ruu u want and then run the ruu and that's. Should be back to stock, u'll just need to s-on. Hope that helps.

OK so this is where I am at with my HTC Sensation......
I have mikes 3.32.401.1 radio installed....
I have rooted device with su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed....
I have super CID to 11111111 as per post instructions in S-OFF post....
I have installed PG58IMG.zip from post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542192
Now my issue is my Wi-Fi has ceased to work, a terminal error and my sim card is very temperamental on which sim card I use, have contacted HTC and they are ready to do a RMA for repair under warranty as my provider will not replace.
So to do this I need to revert back to stock orange rom and CID and hboot 1.17, well I can revert back to hboot 1.17 and orange stock rom but I am unable to change CID from 11111111 to ORANG001 which I presume I have to do as not to invalidate my warranty and then obviously I need to S-ON
Could someone please help me return my CID to ORANG001 and S-ON my device so I can RMA the thing to get a working phone please.

HTC India to HTC Europe

Hi,
I'm in the UK and I bought my Sensation XE from Hong Kong and use it with a T-mobile sim.
The mobile seems to think it's Indian and I would like to change it to a UK or euro setup.
At present it has HBOOT 1.18 and has CID HTC__038 with ro.carrier HTC-India. Software number is 1.77.720.103.
I had to use locale app to change it from india to UK so that I could have a UK keyboard/dictionary and also receive UK news in the news app.
Now it's coming up to release time for ICS and I would like to make my phone so that it receives the UK version.
Is it possible to flash my phone with the most recent Euro RUU to do this? If I do will I still need to change the CID to HTC__001 and will the RUU change all the bits relating to India that show up when you run the CID Getter app?
I've tried running the RUU > "RUU_PYRAMID_LE_HTC_Europe_1.73.401.4_Radio_10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2_release_220036_signed" and it looks as though it will change my software version to a version lower than it is currently on. From what I have read on the thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033&page=2 about "How to debrand...." I was under the impression I might need to use revolutionary to get S-OFF, change my CID to HTC__001 or HTC11111 run the RUU then put S-ON again or leave it off.
All just a little confused as to what's best to do.
Sorry for the long post with multiple questions.
I updated the Mrs Desire to Runnymede AIO without too much headache the other day so thought I'd look into sorting out my XE.
Cheers
Finally got there by myself.
Had to HTC Dev unlock bootloader. Flash recovery with 4EXT recovery. Use 4EXT recovery to flash an old ROM with HBOOT 1.17. Use Revolutionary to get S-OFF. Use RUU for most recent Euro GB ROM.
No have S-OFF, Unlocked bootloader, 1.18 HBOOT, Stock HTC european ROM. CID HTC__001.
Still no ICS update available when checking updates though

[Q] confused with the terms.. need help with root

hi..
i am all stranger to HTC world.. i have been using galaxy s, s2 and ace.. things were easier when it came to rooting and flashing custom roms.. or at least there was less terms.. 3 days ago i bougth Sensation XE and since then i have been reading every page but the more i read, the more i get cunfused...
so, what i want is basically trying new kernels, OCing, using apps like setcpu or titanium backup etc.. in order to do these rooting the device was enough with the galaxy devices.. but here there are lots of terms..
here is what i think i understand;
S-off= this means unlocking the NAND part to be re-writable i guess.. the funny part is; i want to root the device and i guess i have to S-off the device but it says in order to S-off the device you must have alredy rooted it? or i am wrong?
Hboot version=i think this is very important since we have to choose the methots according to this... mine is 1.27.0000
super CID= no idea what this is.. but i assume it has no important role on rooting..
and there is the bootloader unlock option= htcdev.com is doing it but they say if i do it my phone is out of warranty.. it is just a 3 day phone and i dont want to lose the warranty... and i also have read some post about it not being a complete unlock.. so any method other then offical HTC ones would be better for not losing the warranty (i am sure even if i lock it back when its necessary, HTC will still have the records of me unlocking my device and wont let me use the warranty) ..
and there is this guide on the development section, it is really helpfull but the date of it tells me it was before ice cream sandwich update and 1.27.0000 hboot version and some of the instructions confirms that... so i guess i need some other method to root my device ... (after everything i am not even sure if the rooting is excatly what i need)
long story for short; i am lost among the terms and instructions.. especially after i tried to S-off my device in order to root and learnt it needed to be rooted first in order to be S-off .....
so please help me with the terms and instructions..
thanks ..
Okay, root is not needed to s off.
S-off disables the security on your bootloader.
Supercid means you can flash any piece of software no matter what area or network it was intended for, as each one has a cid code that restricts the software to the network or countrys phone e.g. unbranded sensations cid is HTC__001 and Vodafone would be VODA__xx. Supercid changes your cid to 11111111 which means everything that is protected by any cid code will work on your phone.
Back to s-off, using revolutionary tool is pretty easy as long as you follow the instructions correctly but will not work on hboot 1.27 so it requires downgrading using an ruu or eng. Hboot 1.17 or finding another method to s off 1.27, once s off using revolutionary all you have to do is flash a custom recovery and then flash superuser and voila your rooted. But you can also s-off, install custom recovery, upgrade firmware to 1.27 and flash a prerooted custom Rom which obviously does the trick. Just make sure to keep a track of what firmware you are on and make sure it works with what your doing and the Rom you're using. Oh and htcdev unlock is not necessary as you can flash a firmware with a unlocked bootloader plus revolutionary also unlocks bootloader. And as far as warranty goes, once s off or bootloader is unlocked your warranty is VOID.
Hope this helps

FÄ°nally! everything makes sense thanks a lot..
so the first step is to downgrade to a firmware which i can S-off and unlock, then to get back to pre-rooted version of my current firmware..
so i assume just like i can downgrade, S-off and unlock, i also can upgrade, S-on and lock back when i need the warranty?
Almost firmware contains the radio and Hboot etc, to obtain root you just first s off on the downgraded firmware, then upgrade to an unlocked firmware that is for ics. The firmware for ics is 3.32 which contains Hboot 1.27 but of course you cannot s off on this version of Hboot. Then flash a pre rooted ROM once you have gone back to ics firmware using a custom recovery. Once s off, you will not lose it when upgrading to a new firmware. But to s-on is risky but if you manage to do it without semi bricking your phone and then flash a locked bootloader HTC will never know you've voided your warranty as long as your on an unrooted Rom. I will pm you a great link for doing this and explaining as I know this is confusing. I won't post it here because its on another forum.
