Hi.
My htc has my T-Mobile sim card, so I assume its GSM phone. I use phone in UK.
Question:
Does HTC evo 3D have 4G connection or not? nobody is certain.. some even say it has 3.5G. what the..
If My phone is 4G compatible, I also heard that UK does not have 4G network. Is that true also?
And if that is true, is it possible to break my phones software so badly, that it would use x2 3G connections?

According to specs the evo 3D can use 4G but uk firmware doesn't so you would need to change its rom and wait til uk gets 4G.
Uk won't have 4G for another year or so and even then only in major cities.
And no you can't use two 3G connections on it to get higher speeds as you can't get two connections on one phone.

I live in London, and the phone originaly was from Singapore. Does that info do any good?
Not really as London won't have 4G until at least end this year as ofcom just announced orange / t-mobiles parent company can repurpose their 2G masts to become lte ones and that could take a year but southwark in London did become first uk area to get 4G last week so if your in the right area then its possible but unlikely.
Singapore has 4G so your phone probably supports it but uk won't have it yet so in a year yes you should be able to use it in London. Sooner if your an orange or tmobile customer as they will likely repurpose their city masts first.

dont forget that 4g is just a general term - which kind of 4g will be used? cdma evo 3g supports WiMax, gsm evo 3d afaik supports only hdspa (3.5g) but maybe there's the possibility to activate wimax - yet if your carrier roll out LTE you are still out of luck (and wimax has been a failure, nobody is adopting it anymore).
btw even lte has more than one substandard so even lte phones can be incompatible when moved from one carrier to another.

Wdcma is not cdma. They have a similar name but you cannot use a cdma phone on any uk network. Please read link below to see for yourself that wcdma is completely different.
Uk uses gsm and then wcdma for the 3G but not cdma which is not in use here.

Thank you guys for your Activity, but as a newbie, I dont know what they really mean.
So you saying that network 3 is running WCDMA? Which is what exactly?
and what is the CDMA? Is it a simless phone? And would 1 work in Europe countrys like UK?
You see, my evo 3D is running original android software, and all I could see in my notification bar, its allways running "G" icon, very VERY rarely I see 3G icon.. so thats why I was thinking, why I have never ever seen 4G connection icon, whiles I saw Galaxy having nice 3G connection icon in all the time..
Is it possible to jailbrake my 1.49.0011 GSM revolutionary method, and can I install a good custom rom that would force 3G connection all the time?

Same thing with T-Mobile TP2 on AT&T network. Compare Rogers and Telus 3G bands. It might be different.

lol yeah I think so. I think its called 1x or something like that. I'm not very familiar with the CDMA phones but they advertise that you can use the phone to surf 3G speeds on their network so I'm pretty sure they have 3G speeds.
Sorry, but i'm using TELUS and the HSPA network won't be up till next year and trust me, Telus speeds now are NOTHING close to 3G.
I'm not sure how they are advertising these 3G speeds but 1x is actually slower than what Telus is currently using which is EVDO.

i dont think thats true at all. i get speeds of up to 2.8mg downlink and 500k up.
ive downloaded while tethering upwards up 300kb/s. you might be in an area with 1x coverage, and not EVDO. PLUS make sure the device you are using isnt just EVDO, it has to be EVDO REV A. (touch pro, diamond, touch pro 2, touch, etc). Hope you get better speeds. CHears
Telus EVDO is not slow. Unfortunately the HDPA network is not up yet but it should be online VERY soon as the Olympics are drawing close and this is the reason why Telus is upgrading the network before Feb. 2010 here in Vancouver.

Where the heck are you located?? I'm using a TP2 with full EV signal and i'm getting 400-600k and that's in the downtown core. And from what telus tells me thats the best they can do till they put the HSPA network up. They said CDMA is only capable of 7-750k max, there is no getting over that. But i'd love to know how your getting 2.8 meg, because technically thats roughly 2100k faster than what telus says we can get.
And Jessie is right Telus has a goal to sell phones during the olympics and they plan to have the HSPA up by then.
Yup I'm pretty sure I saw Telus advertising their high speed somewhere
im using a physical sim-card thingy to allow other sim cards to work in my telus TP2, it works (since it does not give me the regular error and i can see the numbers in it), but how do I stop it from using CDMA and go on GSM only?
Guys
I'm hoping you can help us no CDMA users with this question.
Considering that the CDMA TP2 has both GSM and CDMA radios, can I pop in a GSM SIM CARD and enjoy full GSM coverage including use of Asia and European 3G bands?

Yes you can use it on GSM networks. If you want to use the phone on a SIM other that the company's provided sim you need to sim-unlock it. The 3G will work in Asia and Europe but not in North AMerica because the bands are different and the TP2 supports those of Asia and Europe only (the North American CDMA version).

It is quadband gsm.... works on all continents.... provided it is unlocked or you are paying for global roaming.
hello guys, im going to purchase verizon tp2 cause they say it supports gsm and cheaper than the generic nonbranded version. tmobile's design i dislike. so as im going to use it only with gsm sim, i have such questions, are there any differences in use between gsm and vzw versions except i must select gsm mode? can i flash it with generic tp2 roms?
........
okay, seems to be cdma versions cant be flashed to gsm as it is another model id(rhod400 and rhod500)
so i have one more question, will i be able to use internet on vzw tp2 without any restrictions on its stock rom now, when hardspl have not been released yet?
Just to be sure I understand if I want to buy a TP2 in Canada...
The Telus version will not be able to use GSN (Fido/Rogers) 3G network because the 3G bands are not the same as the TP2 from the United-States and Europe?
If so, would this version of the TP2 work with Fido/Rogers GSM 3g ?

I dont think so. I dont think there's a PRO 2 that supports our North American 3G bands.. At least not yet.. For the question above. Yes it is GSM quadband but not 3G quadband. This is different. It is 3G dualband and supports those of Asia and Europe only. Unfortunately.
That's a good and clear answer! Thx !
No problem. I think when and if AT&T or some North American GSM carrier releases the TP2, then the 3G will definitely work here in NA. Otherwise the current versions only support Asia and Europe.
Another question, can we install a custom ROM on the worldphone telus Touch Pro 2 like the other GSM phones? (I dont think so but I found two opposite answers on this forum).
I like the Captivate better than the Vibrant. Will it allow me to use 3G on the T-Mobile network?
I believe you would only get edge on at&t.

Technically it's the same type of network...
no, only EDGE. They have different 3G bands.
T-Mobile = 1700 MHz
ATT = 850 and 1900 MHz
we can use captivate in china with unicom
I have a Captivate on Tmobile.
Can confirm it's only Edge
I always snicker when I see these threads. T-Mo GSM =/= AT&T GSM. Yes there are common frequencies that all GSM phones use, but each carrier always has their own 3G frequency. None are shared.
While yes there are different GSM bands and yes T-mobile uses different GSM bands than AT&T, mostly all phones are quadband GSM nowadays and thus support but AT&T and T-mobile's GSM network. Even US triband GSM phones still has both AT&T and T-mobile's bands.
3G is where is it different. Not all phones support both T-mobiles and AT&T's 3g bands. Very few actually do. The Samsung Vibrant (another Galaxy S phone) supports T-mobile's 3G bands and can be changed in the service mode to support AT&T's 3G as well.
The Captivate is not the same. The Captivate can only support AT&T's 3G network and not T-mobile's 3G network. It will work on T-mobile's EDGE network.

I just bought a Motorola Cliq (MB200). In Dominican Republic there are only 2 companies with 3G service. Claro Codetel (850Mhz) and Orange Dominicana (900Mhz)
Claro Codetel sells the Motorola Cliq for 3G usage on their network, branded to them of course.
The Cliq I bought is T-Mobile branded.
Is there ANY known way to debrand and have access to the 850 band for 3G?
I ask this question because I saw how it can be done on the Motorola Defy with a service flash found here, so I believe it should also be possible with my Moto Cliq.
I would really appreciate any input on this subject.

DOJ and FCC still have to approve it.
@OP
No, the Captivate was designed to only be supported for AT&T 3G. It does have the 2100 band, which T-Mobile 3G uses, but T-Mobile uses both 1700/2100 for upload/download, so if you don't have both, it locks you into 3G.

So what would need to be done to get that type of thing to work fully? Something with the baseband or something right?

just wait a few months, the htc incredible S is supposed to coming to Tmobile and that device has same specs as the inspire except smaller screen and has FFC.

your option is an hd2 on android
I don't get it. One of the reason I pick Inspire because it has the same 2G/3G band frequency like the Desire Z (G2). If Desire Z works then why not the Inspire?
Quote from GSMArena:
HTC Desire Z
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100, HSDPA 850 / 1900 - North America
HTC Inspire 4G
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 1900
Even the Incredible S is not 1700 band
HTC Incredible S
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
The desire z looks like it does not work on t-mobile either. T-mobile needs 1700/2100 for 3g, which are not listed in the specs yet posted.
Can I use T-Mobile 3G devices on another carrier’s 3G networks?
You will not be able to roam with your T-Mobile 3G device on another carrier's 3G network. T-Mobile devices use the 1700Mhz/2100Mhz frequency band (for 3G) and it is specific to T-Mobile. You can however roam on another carrier's 1900Mhz frequency band using GSM. Likewise, another carrier’s 3G devices will not be able to roam on our 3G network.

But his question is specifically asking to use 3g on other carriers. Which the answer is no, even rooting won't help. It's a hardware limitation.
its something i have thought bout but why would you pay that much for a phone tht will only run on the Edge. Wait for the Pyramid to come out or get a Desire HD from ebay. its just the European version and has the bands ability. or like what has been mentioned before about the HD2 and load it with Android. Thats what Im using which is awesome becasue you can use the HSDPA speeds and 3G speeds and have that huge 4.3 inch display and still have a 1ghz snapdragon processor.. another awesome thing about it is that there is SOOO many roms you can load to customize your phone like if you wanted the basic Sense Rom like the inspire or the Evo there are plenty of roms for it, if yo wanted the MyTouch 4G rom then you can load it, if you wanted a Nexus Rom then you can load it, and its much faster with updates so you can even have Gingerbread already on your phone and they are even already gettting the bugs worked out of having Honeycomb on the good ole HD2. its overall a very under rated phone but thats because it had tons of issues with WinMo 6.5 but with ANdroid loaded on it I havent had problem one with it.. Im sure others have thier opinion but thats mine for it.. hopefully any info helps...

AT&T to Buy T-Mobile for $39 Billion USD
T-Mobile 3G (i think 4G also) Phones Will Require Replacement After AT&T Merger
SO buying this phone and unlocking it will give u a little while to use T-Mobiles services (maybe 2 years AT MOST) after that u will need an AT&T phone
but the trade off to being able to use T-Mobile for a while is that u will be at slower speeds for a while BEFORE AT&T destroys this grate service provider
can you say "Cingular" ?
so this is the best GSM phone as it will be merger proof !!

I'm currently in the USA for an internship and I'm tempted to buy an Inspire since it's so much cheaper than what it would cost back in the Netherlands. However I've searched a lot now and I can't figure this out.
Will the Inspire work on my network back in the Netherlands? I'm on T-mobile. I'm sure GSM will work and so on, but I would really like to know if 3G and even 4G will work back at home?
So, bottomline, buy or don't buy ?

Yes it will work but, if you want to use it on another gsm network in the Netherlands you will need to unlock it. I suggest you root it using the ace hack kit. I tested this method and I can say my phone is unlocked.
4G on the Inspire is HSDPA+ its just a upgraded 3g network. If your network in the Netherlands supports this you will have the same speeds or faster. Just check the freq for you home network with the inspire tech spec. I suspect it will work since its the same phone as the Desire HD sold in Europe.

Not if T-Mobile is your provider, T-Mobiles 3G/HSPA+ network uses different frequencies than the Inspire operates on. T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 for their 3G/HSPA+. ATT and the Inspire use 850/1900 (which T-Mobile uses for Edge). So with T-Mobile you'll get voice and Edge data, but no 3G/4G

Good point. Looks like T-Mobile in the netherlands uses GSM1800 and WCDMA2100 - which won't give you high speed data on the Inspire
The Inspire does not suppprt 3g bands that are commonly used outside of north america, so while the phone will generally work, you can only get 2g (edge) data in Europe/Asia/etc..

ATT uses micro sim, that's not an issue.
Frankly I find these LTE just getting to be ridiculously big. The HTC One S is the perfect size imo.
According to the FCC document for the t-mobile version, it's supports WCDMA 850 (ATT), 1700 (T-mobile) and 1900 (ATT,T-mobile). So I should fine on ATT's network as long as I put in the correct APN right?
Also looking for clarification on this...
It probably will, but it has to be unlocked and for that to happen, we need S-Off which could very well be a few months away. Why don't you buy the international, unlocked version outright? You also get your choice of colors (red/black as well instead of just blue/grey).
Wow, not a straight answer yet, YES and unlocked HTC One S will work on ATT 3G (1900mhz). No ATT LTE support. Contrary to above micro-sim is not a problem, att iphones use them and of course you can always cut it as well.

How is mine not a straight answer? It will when it is unlocked. Which requires S-Off.

i am sure it works with att hspa plus. i have persoanlly tried unlocking and using it and it works plus check this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odaS8tcxa0A this dude does the same thing and you can see it working on att along with the galaxy note
p.s. that band might not be available on some areas and 4g might not work, but works where i live (boulder,co)
Ok so... the T-mobile version will work with AT&T... will the international version work any less? As far as I can tell they both use the same bands (with exception to AWS of course).. but I very well could be missing something.

I unlocked mine by calling T Mobile and asking nicely. I popped in my ATT SIM and got HSPA plus nicely. It works perfectly on ATT

I live in India where I can't get it
Can I try Cellunlocker.net
There it is for $10
I thought it had the 850 band for 3G only. I don't see any specs that say it has the 1900 band for 3G. This tells me it will only work in places that AT&T has 3G on the 850 band. Does ATT use 1900 at all for 3G?

ATT uses 1900, in some markets, ATT uses the mixture of both, 850 has better penetration in urban areas (tall buildings ...)
I'm interested in the phone, but i'm going to be using it on ATT. Can somebody that has the device tell us what is the FCC ID?
Quick trip to Phone Scoop website, i can see that there are two FCC ID's associated with the phone. NM8PJ40110 passed the tests using ATT WCDMA bands (band II 1900 and band V 850) and T-Mobile bands (band IV 1700/2100). NM8PJ40100 passed only ATT bands. Both doesn't show any reference to any test on WCDMA 2100 (band I), which probably means that the phone doesn't support the international 3G band.
In short, theoretically, the T-Mobile's version of HTC One S should work on ATT 3G bands (WCDMA band II and WCDMA band V), however, the phone would not support ATT LTE.
Since the hardware is there (FCC website proves it, unless if the official T-Mobile USA version got pushed with different FCC ID that i do not know), the phone should work on ATT 3G, but nothing prevents T-Mobile to disable the ATT 3G radios in their ROM. I think that S-OFF would give opportunity to enable the ATT radios (if they are blocked)
We will see ...
Take care,
From my experience, the ATT radio is not blocked and works fine.
