[Q] Possible to run Windows phone 7.5 on Iphone 4 - General Questions and Answers

I think most of the people i know, love the iphone4 design, My qs is, could we keep the hardware and run windows phone7.5 on this device.
If it doesnt excist, what do we need to this, im really looking in to make windows phone7.5 for the iphone!
thx

It's not possible as of yet, who knows in the future

Honestly, your best bet would be to try and fit the guts of a Windows Phone into an iPhone (which will still have problems). The alternative is to rewrite the Windows Phone OS to work with iPhone hardware (which is a ridiculous task). Either way, I don't see this happening.
There are more handsets with Windows Phone on them than there are iPhone models, and there are more being made regularly. Just pick a phone that already exists or wait till something new comes out that you like.

Not sure if it is possible, but I think it would be hilarious. You probably wouldn't make any friends amongst the hardcore apple users.

There are a couple nokia windows phone's that have nice cameras and screens. There is a nokia phone coming out with a 41mp camera. The Lumia 900 is also nice.

41mp, why would someone need that on a phone.. lol

Ya it does sound like a lot. Engadget has a hands on with the phone. It sounds very interesting for photography. The only way you could actually replace cameras with a phone is if you were willing to have a lens that really sticks out of the back of the phone which I am sure most people wouldn't like. I guess that's obvious though.

yeah, but I guarantee the cmos sensor isn't 41mp, probably 10 at best, so the rest of the camera doesn't matter. As for op, simple solution... sell ur iPhone and get a windowz phone. Ur phone has GREAT resale value

U have to go to jail for that.
Becoz win7.5 is not open source.

What do yall know about that new Dell Streak Coming out? Cause it should be the talk of the town right now. lol
For those who dont know, the new Dell Streak , also known thruout the internet rumours as the Dell Mini 5 or Streak 5, is a fully fledged and capable Tablet Pc coming to AT&T later this summer thats also a phone. These are the Highlights:
1. 5in Capacitive Touchscreen w/Multi-touch. 800x480 screen resolution. in 16:9 aspect ratio. the way movies in movie theatres are shown.
2. Android operating system. Already guarenteed to get Froyo shortly. im not exactly sure of the one it has on launch. All Over the air updates. Including the new Adobe Flasher player 10, or whateva it is. lol
3. Basically a any network, type of device. Its coming to [email protected], which is GSM, but can also work on tons of others including CDMA. This will be a 3g device or greater off tops.
4. Dell has their own well put together visual UI on top of Android. for an even better experience.
5. Has the latest WIfi, bluetooth , gps technologies in it.
6. Has the latest Snapdragon processor in it. which is a big increase from current snapdragon processors. and i believe it also might have its own DSP dedicated processor for video. Im telling u , this thing is sooo slick and moves so fast thru the UI or pages.
7. DDR2 ram or something. not exactly sure or how much of it.
8. supposedly 16GB internal memory
10. micro sd card slot or the full size one. i think its the micro. up to 64GB, if ya got it. lol
11. USB port or ports. might b the smaller one, hopefully standard size. either way it can be a usb host. meaning plug up any keyboard, or mouse , or cam or whateva u want..oh ****..
12. DUAL CAM for video conferencing. Front facing VGA cam. rear facing 5mp cam. Dual LED Flash. it goes on and on. lmao
13. Fully Capable Tablet PC
14. I believe about 8hrs. battery life or whateva. not sure of the details of standby time and all that. either way, thats great of a device of this stature.
15. Can play movies up to 1080 on its screen. it can play out 780 on a tv. those numb. might be slightly off. but its supposed to play the highest one out on its screen and play the second highest to ur t.v.
16. HDMI output on device. yeahhhh...
and moreeeeeeeeee.........lol
SO BASICALLY, one this comes out, I can take my sim card out of my Rhodium Tilt 2. plop it in the streak. and im good to go till the next millinium. lmao

oh my fault, Phunk. lol i forgot to put what they meant. i mighta got a numb or 2 mixed up. well it has the same resolution like the tilt 2 except reversed. As far as the quality of movies it can play, it can play the best. layman terms .
Yes, the EVO is very capable also. thats probaly the next best. But the Streak is more of a Tablet PC with phone capabilities. EVO is a phone, with some, pc capabilities. Yeah its a face palm..lol but look at the quality of its screen and the size. People will be mesmerized by it. my father is getting an EVO. i was up late last night schoolin him on xda website, showing him the ends and outs. I blew his mind once i showed him my AOSP Android build on my WM phone ;-) he was like, aint that illegal to have that up there, u might get arrested...lmfao i told him, thats just the tip of the iceberg, here at XDA. I gave him information overload, it was too much advancement. hes stoked right about now on all of it.

Youre late on the streak..lol Dell is already selling them through china's market you can pick them up for $300-$500... Ive seen (albeit in disbelief..) 7" touch screen tablets with quad-band capability.. I just ordered a unit similar to the dell called a QiGi Smartbook running WM6.5 on a Marvel 624mhz processor got it for $250..it also has a 5" screen which I need.. 3" is way too small to do anything with but get a headache! the older unit was the qigi U1000 called the "Mypad".. if youre looking for phones with good touchscreen real estate check out the MID500, Eking S515, MIDphone SV01, AIGO MIDphone.. these three units are all modeled after the new XP Phone from ITG which hasnt been released yet and theyre Sliders that sport 5" touch screens and come in flavors of linux, android and XP embedded.. I havent seen them cheaper than $500 and I think thats because the modem is pci-e and are pretty pricey (almost half the cost of the phone itself..) I liked the dell when I first saw it (jack bauer uses one on "24") but then I started seeing all these other units people were sleepin on and decided why wait?? to be honest, the chinese are waaaaay ahead in this arena and I think its because the US thinks about how much can we bilk consumers out of first and make them think theyre getting something never seen before... NOT! when I see phones with 3 bootable OS's for half the price of a US unit with a pretty today screen I have to wonder!... My phone should be here next week and I cant wait to see SPB mobile shell on a true widescreen!! 4.3"??? hahahah!! 5" babeeeee!

[Q] What would you like to see most in next gen WP7 devices

Wp7 devices have been reasonable but obviously missing a few things, i feel i have had to settle for 2nd best. dont get me wrong, the OS is great but hardware wise i feel a little bit cheated, so ive already decided, my next WP7 phone will have something a little extra and completely fulfill my demands next time. what is the thing you want most in the next gen wp7/8 device??? any other suggestions welcome but im starting with 5.
How can YOU decide what your next WP7 will have before they've even been announced? For all we know, there will be no future hardware upgrades, as the OS is running flawlessly on the current technology. Sure, in theory it would be nice to have more memory, a better CPU, a better GPU , etc. But if WP7 doesn't like it, Manufacturers will never release it.
Should be more along the lines of what people would LIKE to see in future devices.
simple. if the next gen of wp7 dosnt have any of these features. i wont be buying a new one.
Honestly, I want parity with the highest end Android phone...JUST for the sake of specs. The OS is smooth enough, so it certainly doesn't REQUIRE so much horsepower...but Android-loving friends will always boast about the specs...
Anyways, hardware-wise, a dual-core Qualcomm SoC, with a high-quality 8 megapixel camera, FHD recording, a YELLOW flash (and I don't care about front-facing camera, but it would be nice to get a more than 1MP camera on the front as well), and physical buttons are a must. Right now I have the LG Optimus 7, so I would expect the same industrial design or better in a next-gen phone. And anything under 32GB storage is unacceptable. 1GB RAM would be nice too for when you want 10-20 tabs open ( I use metro browser ). I have tried 5 WP7 phones, each for about a week, and I can subjectively say the size of the screen on the Optimus 7 is near ideal. I want a 100mm (3.94 in) IPS screen on my next phone...
OK, I am done ranting. Oh wait, a price under $500 is also appreciated, since I tend to NOT get contracts.
And Microsoft, seriously, I live like 2 hours away from your campus in Washington, but in Canada. The world is NOT just USA. Bing features, as well as other localized features should be available in Canada at the same time as US. I can understand Zune Pass (CRTC...those bastards), but anything else is INEXCUSABLE!!!
I would expect WP8 to have all of the above as minimum system requirements.
I would want CDMA carriers (Verizon mainly) to have Window Phone 7 models before any new models come out. I want one but, I am getting sick of waiting just to get good coverage on a phone.
Maybe S-AMOLED Plus (that acronym needs an acronym).
4g, that is the one feature I definitely want on the next generation WP devices. I am in no rush for dual cores just because I know that Microsoft will probably provide good drivers enough to make it even more fluid. I really don't care about the other things (more storage would be nice though).

From reading this section of the forums I thought Android was something you throw on a cheap, why are you complaining about the cost?
Apple is going multi core, so Microsoft has no choice but to introduce multi core phones this year if they want to continue this.
Also looks like FFC is now the standard on the major players devices.
1080 recording should be on the list too.
Everything else I want is mainly software related.

I would gladly take a phone without a FFC. If I wanted to video chat someone, I would tell them to use a computer.
1080p is only on dual core and as long as the quality is good.
A better UI interface!
How about a port to connect to my Zune docking stations? Could probably replace the microUSB.

MS should buy Nokia out, and start making their own phones(ZuneHD like)
high end phones all the way!
-Dual core processor: Cool but probably unnecessary considering how well optimized WP7 is on a single core 1Ghz.
-Better GPU: Would love to see more powerful GPUs in the future. Xbox Live Games need it to beat out iOS and the next PSP! If Epic can make a game as gorgeous as Infinity Blade for the iPhone and not WP7, Microsoft has fallen behind. (I voted for this one)
-Front Facing Camera: Only worthwhile if Skype ever makes an app. Besides that I still don't see much of a point.
-4G: Always a welcome addition, but I don't want it if it's going to adversely affect battery life.
-At least 32GB NAND: High quality NAND memory is still not that cheap, so I think the minimum should be 16GB (that's more than most people would ever need).
also voted for GPU, since this MS's mobile gaming rig. or so they said

Good luck with the PSP thing, apparently the PSP2 is just as powerful as the current PS3. If Microsoft can make their next generation of WP7 phones better than that, I would be more than impressed.
Depends on the technology really and coverage.

1080p is a terrible thing to want in a phone. look at file sizes of 720p. then consider post-processing, editing, and emailing/uploading somewhere.
check out some of the forums that deal with shooting amatuer action (motorcycling/bicycling/bowling/whatever) in HD and see what they're saying. 1080p is nuts. if we're not careful we'll end up with no option for lower quality, and a 5 second clip that is 75Mb !
that's all

Better GPU comes with dual cores. Multi core is mainly for media and gaming. The mobile gaming market is headed towards PC capabilities.
FFC, Skype purchased Qik. Don't know if they will make it to WP7 though. Me personally I don't care, but having the option to use a FFC means everything.

[Q] I thinking of switching to WP7

I am thinking of moving from android to windows phone 7 and I have a few questions.
1)Is the gMap app available in Ireland and UK and can it do local search and navigate to it? Now I don't need turn by turn just a line that you can follow on a map and can track your movement
2) Which out the following devices you would think is best and why:- HTC Trophy, HTC Mozart, HTC 7 Pro or Lg Optimus 7
3) Can mango been install on these devices now unofficially or do I have to wait for official release.
4) Where would I find 3rd party apps?
Thanks in advance

1) gMap is apparently based on Google so it supports those countries I think. But it's really poor compared to Google Maps.
2) All of them are quite robust and reliable. I have Optimus 7 which has a great quality BUT after 7 months part of the screen became greyish - visible only on white. I guess LG is not the quality master...... Also Optimus has hardware keys.
All of the phones have good cameras in daylight and quite ****ty in dark, a WP7 trademark....
3) Yes you can have Mango now, many users have it here.
4) Marketplace
u won't regret the switch one bit to wp7
1) it should work and I think Bing works there as well.
2) I would go with a phone by HTC, I have the arrive (7 pro) and I love it.
3) yes the mango beta is released here and on just about any other forum site.
4) u can get then from the marketplace and if ur developer unlocked ($9 US) u can sideload apps.
ignore the ****ty picture quality being a wp7 trademark remark. I've seen poor quality from all OSes and my arrive takes good outdoor pictures

The quality of a camera in low light is directly related to the size of the lens, ANY camera with a lens the size of a sesame seed will suffer in low light situations. This is not specific to WP7.
I live in Sweden and Bing Maps isn't even supposed to work at all. But im navigating fine with it. For driving it updates to slow to be any good. So i installed a pay navigation app named Turn By Turn and it is just great.
Also, there are some Google apps in Marketplace that could replace Bing, but Bing is intergrated and have so far worked flawless.
All other questions everybody answerd. I my self use Omnia 7 16GB and very happy with it. Dont know about the other phones, but LG Optimus 7 have only one flaw, and it's the screen. The LG phone it aelf is great, but the screen is horrible compared to any phones out there. Here in Sweden you can buy a new LG, unlocked/carrier free for 1900 SEK. Should be around 200$ That's very cheep for a smartphone of this magnetude. But i wouldn't pay more ether because of the bad screen, wich is sad because native apps and other hardware parts is good.
Hope i didn't offend any LG users, its my and some close friends observations. 1 still bought it but everytime he looks at other screens he gets sad.
If you dont like SAMOLED like me, go for a HTC device. Seems also to be supporting there WP great.
Time have passed, so i wonder if not Dell Venue Pro could make for a good chooise. Thats the phone i wanted initally. But Venue Pro, Focus and Omnia 7 are SAMOLED / AMOLED devices.

While the things you both say are true, I wouldn't call the image quality I get from my Focus, even in brightly lit scenarios, to be anywhere close to good. It might be OK for resizing down images to post on Facebook, or for viewing on your phone, but for anything else the quality is almost useless. The images are excessively noisy and overly compressed, with almost no dynamic range at all. Even trying to manually adjust the settings to compensate makes virtually no difference. I've looked at quite a few full size photos taken with some of the "competition", and the difference is almost night and day.
I have high hopes for the cameras in the new Nokia phones, given the quality of glass they will be using, but that is only one factor. The physical sensor needs to be up to the task, as does the image processor that reads the raw values from it.
Obviously, it is silly to make broad generalizations like the "WP7 trademark" comment about camera quality, but what I can say for certain is that the quality in the Focus is far below what it could be, even for a phone camera.

Nokia 808 PureView Vs Galaxy S4 Vs Galaxy S3

hi friends. the topic says it all. but here is the catch.

i have owned S3 and its camera is great. but not a good low light performer. its THE GREATEST PHONE for sure. and S4 will not be available till end of this month.i really need to decide within like 2 days to go for any set.
are there any friends here who owned 808 and S3 together? cause i have never used 808 but every read only good about its camera.

Haven't you answered your own question???
Questions should go to the proper forum section, but we have camera discussions here too.
With that said, not to leave you without an answer, the PureView 808 is obviously the best camera phone on the market. The good news about the GS4 is however that it does awesome good light photos which at 13MPs are good for digital zooming or later cutting which is usually a problem with phones (no optical zoom). The bad news is that, despite improving tremendously, absolute dark shots are still problematic, and if half your shots are taken during nights or very limited lights, the Lumia 920 is the one to choose. If 80% of your shots are taken in low but not dark conditions, average lights and ideal scenery, the GS4 is an excellent all-around performer for a phone.
But you can judge the quality for yourself over this thread:

price of a used around 320-350$ for now

No, its not comparable to a DSLR, but its much better then the S3/S4 and all the other phones. If you want a good low light phone, go for the 808/920 or htc one.
But if you want to shoot REALLY NICE pictures, you should get a dslr.
For example the Sony Alpha 57: currently avaible for 440€ in Germany. The supplied objective is ok but you can improve the quality with an alternative one.
All the phones avaible ARE NOT WORTH COMPARING WITH A GOOD DSLR!
None. If you are going on a trip, you should get a DSLR.

I am sure you have never handled a DSLR. Don't spread FUD here.

and here,
http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_808_pureview_low_light-review-775.php
it is said that, "The Nokia 808 PureView is on its march to becoming iconic, trashing the Olympus PEN E-PL2 Micro Four Thirds camera in our blind test and then matching the Canon 5D Mark III for resolution in the process."
so yeah... it does have Great sensor with great performance...

Technically, Olympus E-PL2 is not a DSLR. It's a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.
And "Micro Four Thirds" should have told you the size of the sensor. Compare this to a size of a typical APS-C sensor.
If I am looking to take photos, I would rather get a typical DSLR.
Matching 5D Mark III in photography? I would better ask the editor to get his eyes checked. 808 is neither good phone, not a good camera. It's much better than typical mobile camera, but can't be compared to a good DSLR. It even worse than a point n shoot like RX100.
I don't need photography lessons from blind test in GSMArena.
808 is comparable to my 5D mark III? Please. I'll advise you to stick with your current phone and get something like Canon 650D or 60D.

If you just want the best camera but not the window phone based phone, why not try HTC One which owns the ultrapixal camera. But note that the best camera on smartphone is still the pureview camera on Nokia Lumia 920. And the windows phone system don't sucks like what you imagined.

If 2 micron is ultrapilxel, what do you call a 5 micron? Elephant-pixel or dragon-pixel?
I wonder if you know that even a 6 year old phone like Nokia N95 had a bigger sensor and bigger pixel-size. In 2007 they had a phone with 1/2.5 inch sensor and 2.2 micron pixel pitch.
Don't remember anyone calling it ultrapixel!

ultrapixel is just a marketing term aka a name. is it so hard to understand that? HTC figured that it would be rather embarrasing to sell a flagship with only 4MP on board so they coined this term.
Its like apple coined the retina display term. theres nothing to do with retina there. its just a name.
And how big fat and heavy was that n95? 808 is best cameraphone out there but nokia coundnt sell it. people dont want fat phones anymore. not most people.
Seems like you don't want a dslr. If you want REALLY GOOD picture quality and that's all you care about you could still get a decent digital non-dlsr camera which is much smaller than a dslr. I mean you already got a decent phone anyways so why throw so much money on 808 that's got nothing but a camera? Better spend something like $350 on a decent camera with superb quality. That price range can already get you something much better than any smartphone camera's

Captain Obvious strikes back with vengeance.
i know it very clear 808 just cant compete with DSLRs but u should give the credit where it is due. 808 does compete with some of the low end DSLRs and i said LOW END!!
and 920 is only better than 808 in terms of steady videos cause of its OIS and thats it!
808 captures true colors and u can get the punchier colors while chossing vivid mode or increasing the contrast
i just wish, GOD just WWWIIIISSSSHHH that HTC had used some high quality and higher pixel count sensor in ONE! that would have been awesome!
ultra pixel of HTC ONE is like the 12MP sensor of N8 when it was introduced years ago! and then Nokia perfected that with 808. i was literally hoping a great phone from HTC this year at least, but alas... Ultrapixel should be evolved and it definitely would be, into something comparable to what Nokia did with 808!
now my current wish is Nokia choses to go Android and introduce Pureview Phase 3 phone with FHD screen and camera with double the performance of 808... (just a wish )
