[Q] bootloader labelled as "RELOCKED"...will this look suspicious to tmobile?
my htc sensation got a little beat up and im going to try to get a warranty replacement this week. i unrooted my phone fine, got s-on after a little frustration and i relocked the bootloader using fastboot oem lock. like the title asks, will this look suspicious to tmobile? everything is totally stock just like it would be out of the box except for that "RELOCKED" label in the bootloader

Should be OK, hard to say really without sending it back!

Hm, i dont think they would notice. I heard many people sending their rooted/custom rom phones for warranty, and never got an issue with it.

[Q] Do I need to relock bootloader/downgrade firmware for AT&T warranty service?

I have a OneXL with AT&T. It came with the 2.20 firmware. I accepted the 3.18 OTA, and was stuck without root for a while (dumb, but no big deal). After the new exploit came out for 3.18, I unlocked and got S-Off, and things have been fine, I ran a few sense ROMs, settling on ViperXL 4.20.
Well, I work in a IT asset disposal warehouse where I'm a computer tech, and some of the guys in the warehouse who do inventory thought it was a good idea to steal some smartphones we get in for recycling. Enter new company rule: No cellphones in the building. If you are caught with one, you get suspended, and your phone gets confiscated while they make sure it isn't their property. So, my choices are to leave my phone at home all day, or leave it in my glove box in my car in the Texas heat in July/August. For the first week, I did not shut off the phone before leaving it in the glove box, but I do now. I started to get random shutdowns and call drops. I always make sure my phone is cooled by my A/C before using it.
I flashed the stock kernel (I had beastmode) and I flashed a fresh ROM to see if that would help. It didn't. I think there is a hardware problem with the phone that might be related to leaving it in my hot car while at work.
I decided to take my phone into AT&T as it is still under warranty, but I don't want them to see that I tampered with my bootloader. Is there anyway I can RUU to 2.20 or 3.18 and not get the "Re-Locked" message on the bootloader screen?
Is there a how-to guide for this?
Am I boned because I accepted the OTA before I unlocked/rooted?
You can run an RUU, relock the bootloader, and edit the "relocked" flag to read "locked" because you have s-off. As far as I know, at&t aren't really too worried about having ash unlocked bootloader but if you don't want to take the chance you can use the steps I outlined above.
Sent from my Evita
I've seen many reports of folks sending in phones to AT&T with unlocked bootloaders, and even custom ROMs, and still having the warranty honored. Haven't seen any reports of AT&T denying warranty service for mods.
HTC is more picky. But AT&T is more concerned with keeping you as a monthly customer, than nitting over things like unlocked bootloaders on devices.
But if you want to be safe, go back to close to stock as timmaaa suggested.
Thanks guys, I think I'll just take it in without doing anything. I dont want to mess it up trying to change things if I don't have to. I think the consensus is that they really don't mind. When I bought the phone, the salesman was required to read out a few lines from some memorandum saying that AT&T does not recommend unlocking the bootloader/rooting/modding. I started saying I wanted a nexus because it was easier to do all that with. They were out of the nexuses, so I got the One XL.

[Q] Void warranty and rooting

So I was wondering whether or not I should root my phone, and i remembered that rooting voids the warranty.
My last phone was an HTC one v, which i cracked. I called customer service and told them the phone had software problems and asked if i could get a new one (it was unlocked and rooted) and it worked. Granted, i did have insurance on it.
I'm curious if that would work if i cracked my moto g, would i be able to call them and request a new one if i had a "software problem" and i was rooted. Would it make a difference if i relocked the bootloader? Btw i have a us gsm one.
Has anyone ever tried "beating the system" and how did it go?
P.S. dont judge me okay, i'm sure some of you are wondering the same thing.
I know a guy who got his XT1032 replaced, cos the eMMC, died a week after he bought it. He had the bootloader unlocked and rooted (actually he was running CM11).
But that's in the UK, no idea really how the things are in the US.

SONY US can't fix my d6603

So I dropped my z3 d6603 on the bathroom tile and shattered my screen. Called up Sony us (since I live here), gave them my info and told them my problem and they issued an RMA. Sent in my phone a few weeks ago. Didn't hear anything so I called in to check on my rma. They said they are shipping back phone not fixed because it's an international version and not a US version and has unapproved software (mind you it is stock but with an unlocked boot loader and rooted). I unlocked the bootloader from THEIR website! Anyways its now getting escalated to see what can be done. Anyone else had issues with the RMA process?

Your bootloader was unlocked so they may turn you down. It has been stated already that by unlocking the bootloader you void the warranty even through the means of their offical software
I wasn't even asking for a warranty claim. I'll pay for the fixed broken screen. A broken screen has nothing to do with the software.
So now I have to wait for them to ship my device back, I relock the boot loader and return to stock, file a new rma, and ship it back to them. This makes a lot of sense.....
It still affects warranty even if you are willing to pay cause it was unlocked. Dumb rule but it is what it is they have warnings about it when you unlock

It has nothing to do with a warranty claim. It has to do with a damage claim. Anyways Im still waiting on a response back but I think I might of convinced them to go ahead and fix it. It saves them money and me money by just fixing it now rather than shipping it back to me, me making it stock again, and shipping it to and from sony.

Unlock the bootloader - Carrier warranty?

A dumb (but unanswered) question: I have a XT1542. If I unlock my bootloader (I haven't done it yet), and all that jazz, it's crystal clear that I've voided my warranty with Motorola, but I have a warranty with my carrier (Personal Argentina) 'cause I bought from them, and not from Moto (In fact when you need physical tech support they send you to one of their own approved tech centers, and not to any motocare's or something like that) . So -technically- if something goes south with the phone and I relock the bootloader and flash a stock rom (and remove the unlocked bootloader screen) on it they should cover me whatsoever, right? Does anyone has any experience with a case like this? Thanks in advance!
This has been discussed actually... and it might work, depends on how much your rep looks at the phone. No matter what you do, even if relocked and flashed to stock, the bootloader will always show it has been modified. The Status Code can never be changed back to 0 and Software Status will always show "Modified".
The other piece here is that it is potentially illegal or immoral, you are committing fraud.

I am buying used Pixel, Inquiry?

Hello guys, I am buying a new Pixel phone but the seller claims that it was officially carrier unlocked.
I had this boot screen from his device and the lock logo confused me a bit (Check attachment) . I am not an expert so it would be great if you could help me to know whether it is ok to have this on the boot up screen or not and if there any ways to know if it is officially unlocked or unlocked by a 3rd party company. Sorry for my bad English
PS: The carrier company is in a foreign country
This is officially unlocked, that screen means the previous owner unlocked the bootloader. It's irrelevant to carrier unlock, and it's okay.
Enjoy the phone !

Thank you for the help. But could you tell me please how could you know if it is officially unlocked or not ?
two more thing, Locking again the boot loader will cause the device any harm or will back it SIM locked again ?
How could I find out if this piece has microphone issue that most of people complain about ?
Thanks in advance, sorry if my questions are too rookie
Pixels are carrier unlocked.
You can easily relock the bootloader which is not the same thing as sim unlocking and will not affect that.
You can't tell with microphone issue unless you notice direct issues. If it is still within warranty you can rma the phone back to Google no questions asked (but bootloader must be relocked). I bought a used Pixel and it had a dead GPS chip and Google sent me a new not refurbished phone even though I was not the original owner.
