Hey guys I'm on Virtuous Inquisition 4.0 & I really love how smooth it is and its clean feel. Loved it enough to get rid of my gs2 as it makes my sensation so much more functional. But, I'm looking at buying Tmo's HTC one S when it arrives, so I'm wanting a good taste of sense 4.0 to see how I feel about it. What's your favorite sense 4.0 from, and what's the smoothest? I rely on my phone heavily for business, so I don't want something that will fail me, though I know there's always a risk
Looking forward to everyone's opinions, and thank you to all!
It's probably stick to Sense 3.6 ROM's for now if you need your phone to work.
Most of the hardware seems to be working in Sense 4.0 ROM's but I have read (haven't tried for myself) that they're still quite rough around the edges.
baadnews sense 4.0 is awesome

HTC has not released Sense 4.0 for the Sensation yet. and probably never will. Sense is garbage to begin with anyways. Use a non sense ROM. The experience is so much better and yoiu get nearly triple battery life. Sense freaking rapes battery.

Stay with Sense 3.6. If you need your phone for business. None of the 4.0 roms are close to ready. They function, but performance across the board is low. There's only so much devs can do, and those roms are not ready to go yet.
Im very Happy with senseissimo but very Bad battery Life :-(

Have you been wondering what HTC plan to do with Ice Cream Sandwich on their devices?
Well, wonder no more as one of our internal sources at HTC has managed to lay his hands on their very first internally distributed test build of Google's latest and greatest. Built on Android 4.0.1 (the build is a month old, and it will become 4.0.3 by the time it hits public release), the first test releases are intended for the HTC Sensation / Sensation XE and sport the 3.0x version tag. The usual HTC customisations are present including HTC Sense 3.5, so don't expect any massive visual changes for Ice Cream Sandwich. As you would expect, ICS has been slightly sliced and dice to give the HTC experience - Facelock is present but the new keyboard is replaced by an updated HTC IME etc.
We hope to have some ICS on Sensation screenshots very soon... watch this space!

Why sense 3.5 that it sucks!?!?!?!
We need leak .-)

How different can the ice cream sandwich be for the users, if it comes with the exact same sense UI as the gingerbread?
An increased build number in the settings? not worth waiting for IMO
I want an untouched Ice cream sandwich
Sense 3,5? That sucks. What will happen with devices that already have 3,5? Do they just keep it?
Give them some time, either w8 2 month for sense 4.0 with Ginger or 2 month for sense 3.5 with Ice creame

I dont understand why HTC would want to ruin what from all ive read is by far the best and most professional version of Android yet by adding bloody sense on top again
all HTC needs to do is add Sense widgets to stock ICS and call it a day.
That would be perfect... but HTC won't...
they better not mess it up and make it lag.
I understand they have to add sense on to it as one of their biggest USPs. I dont really see the point of adding 3.5 though other than getting a phone out running ICS. I certainly wont be flashing anything ICS + Sense 3.5, id rather wait for a pure build like CM9, or wait until/if they sort out sense 4.
Sense 3.5 is really good and way better than Sense 3.0 and probably with ICS it'll get better with hw acceleration and remember the post talks about initial rom, probably public release will have Sense 4.0
HTC and all the others are going to add their gimmick with out a doubt. Why would they not? Thats THEIR calling card afterall.
The question is, can WE remove it? I used TB to freeze Sense on my phone and replaced Sense with ADW EX. Now the question is, can I freeze Sense and let ICS come out to play, or is ICS launcher gone at this point?

I don't think you can count on that. HTC removes stuff from original ICS, and then ads sense into it. So I don't think you will run a stable version of ICS without sense.

That sucks. How much of a chump will I feel for freezing Sense, then adding ADW EX, and then finally having to run an ICS theme? Sheesh.
Well, Im sure that once HTC has released it CM9 wont be far behind for the Sensation. I could live with ADW EX until CM9 comes out.
Matt
Why did anyone think for one second Sense would not be in this release? EVERY HTC device has Sense as it's the selling point. Don't like it, get a different handset - it's a simple solution.
Have to say, though, Android 4 is awesome
Everyone sais ics looks good and stuff and yer most of it does but am I the only one who thinks any vanilla Android launcher looks so boring? And the widgets sucks. I love sense, however I'd like 4.0 just for something new

Honestly, we guys are looking at the bad site of what HTC could do. Who knows? It might be even better than the stock ICS...
Haven't you guys seen the leaked build of ICS with Touchwiz for the Galaxy S2 phones? It's still the same thing as it is currently. Same thing with Sense, it'll be the same exact thing, we won't even get the new battery/wifi/signal icons that come with ICS.
I still wouldn't mind it though, I love Sense, some hate it. And plus with hardware acceleration, hopefully it'd be quicker.

If they put sense 3,5 in it, and it removes some stuff, then there is no actual point of giving us 4.0
Greetings to all developers and super users, I'm just eager to know what are your opinions on the latest SenseUI on top of ICS.
In my opinion, the Sense 3.5 is just not made for ICS at all. It's just an emergency move made by HTC team to release Sense for ICS. This is due to other platforms which quickly developed their patch ICS upgrade for their devices. I't just an 'emergency landing' for HTC.
In Sense 3.6 they've fixed some minor stuff in 3.5 which doesn't fit well together with the ICS framework. BUt still, how the SenseUI in ICS gave an impression to me is that IT IS NOT WELL CONCEPTED! Not as beautiful as Sense 3.0 in GB compared to other manufaturers' UI.
So I'm just saying that I am really eager to see Sense 4.0 for ICS in the near future.
What say you guys?
if HTC had actually given it a bit more AOSP style to Sense with ICS, then it might be ok....but as it, it actually looks like poop in my honest opinion...hence I now run Virtuous Inquisition 3.0.0
True, I think at the moment, Mathias' design concept is more mature than HTC's. But the fact is that many feature in ICS is already adopted since Sense 3.0. So I think that Sense 4.0 will be a blast again
sense is awful... that is just my opinion
I don't mind a little bit of sense (Some comes in handy sometimes) but they basically killed the beauty of ICS with there **** sense overlay. At least color stuff correctly. It looks very hurried and just glued together on htcs part. With that said virtuous Inq took out all the crappy junk that HTC put in and made it great again.
I'm actually considering a move to Virtuous ROM. Because it's the best AOSP so far I saw plus everyone's been using that.
I agreed with the glued part. It is really like just glued in a hurry. Not like the usual SENSEUI..
Yes sense 4.0 will totally change Ics UI....we have to wait some days.
The question is WHEN...
there are some leaks about it.. but not convincing enough...
Just hope it will be epic as ever ^^
sense 3.5/3.6 doesnyt really fit to ics, htc got to rethink their vision of new sense, but first news gives us hope that htc has right direction
on the other hand i can't work without sense, its the most complex launcher and i've tried working without it, but it was pointless, always comming back to sense
Personally,i just want aosp based rom. I hate Sense and always did dating back from my old Wildfire lol.
Using HyperSense CM7 ATM
ok, after I tried using Virtuous 3.0.0, I decided to go back to ARHD.
reason??
Because after using the AOSP based ROM, I realized how Sense made life easier. Although I must say that the AOSP has better design than Sense 3.5/4.6, but there are still some functions which Sense came really handy with.
So mean while, I'm coming back to ARHD ^^
It's insulting. 3.6 is such a minor "upgrade" to 3.5 while 4.0 is a massive upgrade (no quotes) to 2.3.x, putting that ****lick overlay on top of AOSP totally kills it. That, and the gray color scheme introduced in 3.5 is aweful, it's so dull. Sense 3.0 is the last decent Sense.
I agree, actually maybe Sense 3.0 was so great is because it has huge improvement from the previous Sense.
I would love to have ICS stock camera app in htc sense..
i think sense 3.6 is just a quick update to shut all of us up about wanting ICS
after some time we'll get a better sense version...
remember sense 2.1? it was absolutely the same in froyo and gingerbread but when HTC announced the sensation it was rocking sense 3.0 and everyone was drooling over it
While the first pictures and videos of ICS emerged, I told my self "nah, that can't be it. They said they where about to make it look better... "
When ICS was officially announced, I was deeply disappointed, that it really looked as ugly as it did in the leaked versions.
So I'm really enjoying sense 3.6, even if I had hoped for more.

Personally Im not really looking forward to ICS with Sense 3.6. ICS is one thing but IMO Sense 3.6 isnt exactly different from Sense 3. The only thing I like about 3.6 is its camera but it isnt really a make or break decision for me.
If HTC rolls out ICS and Sense 4.0 for Sensation sometime later, I do hope they'll have better camera features (not over Sense 3 of course, even 3.6 camera trumps over 3.0 lol)
But I think Sense 3.6 is a compensation of ICS design. Because the original ICS has no menu button and Sensation has menu button.
Ok, maybe its just me.
Theres a lot of complaining about Sense, people on hear who would rather have any sensless rom.
Not wishing to sound like im causing an argument, but why do people who hate Sense, buy HTC phones. And not buy another Android phone, theres loads out there, some better than my Sensation, some worse.
Personally i like sense, running ICS, with Sense 3.5, and love it, but veryone has there own likes.
So why buy an HTC phone, if you dont want Sense?
the only thing i use sense for is for beats audio if it didnt need sense for it please say so then im gonna take an sensless rom don't see the point of sense exept keeping my homescreen to reload when much ram is used and as u know it uses at its own already around 50 mb of ram
I bougth my sensation just because the Sense, otherwise I would bought a Galaxy S2.
I like the sense features, the eye candy look and the widgets.
I recon that Sense is a resource eater, and it is has some bugs. It has been like this since touchFlo3D (predecessor of Sense in Windows mobile). Nothing is for free in this life.
The good thing is that there is a lot of options on this forum to change what we got from HTC.

Agreed.
I just think Sense is the best OEM 'skin' and actually adds some useful features.
I want to like Sense, but I don't like the coloring scheme from 3.5 onwards. I felt black and gray looked better than just flat gray. The slider bar was nicer too, more rounded, not so big. 3.5/3.6 feel like a Step 2 childs toy. That, and it's so heavy. You can feel the lag going from the newest ARHD ICS to Virtuous Quattro, and you can feel it going from ARHD Gingerbread going to CM7. I'll take what makes my phone perform best - and looks best.
I bought a sensation for the specs, not for sense. It was the cheapest alternative.

I picked my sensation xe as an upgrade purely for the 1.5 ghz processor, first thing I did was install aosp rom and custom kernal. Sense seems such a massive drain on the phones resources, so much quicker without it. But I played with sense long enough to see it is very pretty, with a lot of novelty wow factor touches. For me I want performance over looks, my sensation looks identical to my previous rom on my last phone, just a hell of a lot more powerful

Sense is getting better though. Its a brilliant idea.

Sense 3.5 will be coming to the HTC Sensation and with it it will bring much more speed.
What your forgetting, is Gingerbread never had pure dual-core support. Ice Cream Sandwich will bring that pure support and should, in theory, unleash the beast within.
Sense 3.5 was also initially aimed at lower end phones and because of this is much much less of a resource hog. If it can run speedily on the HTC Sensation XL and even on the HTC Explorer, imagine the possibilities on a dual-core phone? I've seen a screenshot of the task manager on a 4.0.3 build of ICS with Sense 3.5 and there was 400MB of RAM left over the measly 100MB were lucky to get whilst running Sense 3.0.
Hopefully somewhere in the near future we will have Sense 4.0. In fact, Sense 4.0 COULD make it into the final build of ICS for the Sensation. Looking at HTC's trend, I wouldn't count on it but I certainly wouldn't completely call it off.
People buy HTC phones because they are beautiful not only on the interface, but on the outside too and in the naming. Your iPhone isn't put together using an aluminum unibody is it? No, it's put together using cheap sheets of glass on top of a piece of plastic that says 'Apple'.
People buy HTC's mainly because they have common sense. HTC have the best build quality, the best support (normally), the best interface, and even sometimes have the quickest update rollouts. The EVO 3D was supposed to get ICS in January. That's a really fast update considering how long it took then to get the Desire HD on Gingerbread!
I love HTC.

Enjoy ?
The sensation performs well with 3.6 but wonder how it would with something even lighter.. that line got me in a fit of rage.. fine no sense 4.0 for sensation because they need to sell the one. But i was really really hoping for a less resource demanding version of sense.

Yea me too I still didnt get OTA but based on this preview and user replies in general it seems Android version is more important ie having latest 4.0.3 then Sense 3.6. Might as well just root and ignore Sense

I'm still waiting to receive the OTA, before making a decision about rooting and going non-sense. The roll out is pisspotical from what I can see. Sense 4 does look quite nice though.
I just got my Sensation after coming from a Nexus 4 that died, the first thing I notice is how sluggish it is, I am on ICS with Sense 3.6, Maybe its just because I am used to a N4 but this thing feels like walking through mud, I think Sense has a lot to do with it.
If I put a custom rom on it will it help? I had CM10 on my N4 is this available for the Sensation?

Custom ROM can make a lot difference. ICS and Sense 3.6 is slow. If you want to have brilliant sense experience then you should flash Sense based custom ROMs. I am currently using vipers 3.1.2 JB with Sense 4+ and its fantastic. No lags, ultra smooth. Try it and yes CM 10 is available for Sensation, but trust me Sense suits the sensation best.
