[Q] [solved] ADB works, fastboot doesn't - HTC Desire S

Hey you guys,
i googled a lot but i simply can't find a solution to my problem, maybe im just stupid.(or blind)
Anyway, that's my problem:
I've installed Adb & fastboot according to this tutorial because i wanted to flash a rom (tutorial)
When i use adb commands, everything works fine, it finds my device, i can reboot it through adb and so on. But if i try to use fastboot commands, for example getvar cid, oder simply reboot, it stucks @ Waiting for device. It also doesn't list my device, but adb does.
I'm getting a fastboot help dialog, so I think it's installed correctly.
I'm running Win7 64bit, i've installed HTC Sync, so i should have the correct drivers. Usb-Debugging is also on.
If you guys need additional information about my system or anything i'll add them.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my crappy english.

May sound silly, but are you in fastboot? Boot into bootloader and go on fastboot to do this

Must you go through either fastboot or ADB? Too risky if you're not familiar with the terrain. Unless you're tampering with HBOOT.

[Q] Help unlock a noob's bootloader!

Hey,
I've been tinkering with my Nexus S for a few hours over the last couple of days, and I can't seem to unlock the bootloader. I've tried Googling the problem, but I'm having no luck at all.
I think I've installed all of the drivers correctly; when the phone's on, and I type "c:\android\android-sdk\platform-tools\adb devices" in the command prompt, my phone's serial comes up.
Then, and here's where I'm stuck, I shut my phone off, and restart it in fastboot mode. At the bottom of the list on the top it says "Lock State - Locked", I assume that's what I'm looking to change? From here I've tried unlocking it, and I've got the command prompt to say "waiting for device", but nothing happens with my phone. Even when I go for 'fastboot devices' nothing happens, it just skips to the next line.
I'm using 64-bit Windows 7, if that helps, and I'm very new to the command prompt.
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate post, I've spend the last half hour looking for a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem. There is a decent guide at androidcentral that I followed.
One thing I had to do was install some drivers. I know this is going to sound crazy - but I kept reading that if you install the free version of pdanet -it has the drivers we need. So I finally just broke down and installed it and then adb worked in bootloader.
Hope that helps you a little.

[Q] Cant u se one-click root because bootloader is already unlocked

Ive been trying to get root on my phone but unfortunately the person who sold it to me unlocked the bootloader so i cant use the one click root option (the program unlocks the bootloader first and since mines already unlocked it just hangs there) my only other option is adb which i used to root my xperia x10 a year ago but now i have a new windows 7 laptop and adb is extremely difficult right now for me to get working, any ideas to help?
btw idk if this helps but when i try booting into the recovery i get an error signal
thanks in advance!
1 click works. I had the same issue. After it does the bootloader unlock it should restart phone, then boot back into bootloader and continue for root. Wrong forum btw, use q& a.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
ok id move it but i dont think i can
and i tried that and it doesnt work, it says "waiting for device" it wants me to accept my bootloader being unlocked but since mine already is i go straight to the fastboot, rebooting to fastboot does nothing to continue the process

This is why I hate 1-click roots. I root all of my phones manually because this advice is so true.
well ive taken your advice and i have adb devices showing my serial number so i have that working, but now when i try rooting through fastboot i get a message saying fastboot is not recognized *sigh* any help?
fatboot solution (possibly)

I've been going through the same thing and I believe I may have found the solution to adb issue. Waiting on phone to charge now so that I can try it again.
From what I've found, you have to download fastboot separately and place in the same file containing adb.exe
hope this helps

Rooted HTC sensation not bricked but epic fail!

Hey guys I'm pretty new to rooting. I unlocked and went through root process using hasoon2000 all in one that I downloaded here. Long story short phone worked fine , the I couldn't get it to get past boot screen....boots loops I think!?!?!? To cut to the chase. I now can only access twrp. It will not let me reboot because it say I have no os. I did do a tiatium backup but can only see those files on my pc when I mount through twrp. Also if it helps looks like it is in s-on. This is my buddy's phone....... I'm stoked its not bricked but I have no clue how to fix it. PLEASE HELP!

I'm so thankful for the response! Ok from the. Start used the hadoon2000 all in one did the unlock through htcdev. So how I must have missed a step because s-on is on. Booted phone worked went in re started debugging and the installed superuser through twrp. Phone booted and worked. Installed Rom toolbox, beats audio hack, busy box, titanium. Did a sys, and app backup. Went ahead and went through the beats hack installed and rebooted. Phone turned on as normal. Then went in Rom toolbox changed font and boot animation. Rebooted and then wouldn't boot past t mobile image. Ok so this is where I think I blew it. Did battery pull, went into bootloader. Went into twrp. looked for a restore nothing titanium back up folder empty on phone but found when mounted to pc. Wiped catch wiped dalvic, now the stupid wiped the system.. now can't get out of Twrp says "are you sure you want to reboot no os found" I'm really hoping this is fixable

Is that what you were running?
If you has ICS, the radio should be 11.22 or something close to that.

Can not push recovery to HOS

Hi,
I recently relocked my HOS for the official JB from HTC. I have come to say it sucks monkeyballs. Now I tried to unlock, push recovery from TWRP and CM10 on my phone. Well, I can not do those things.
I can succesfully unlock my phone (wich it is now) but i can not push any recovery. It just stands there in Command Promt: waiting for device. And my device keeps in fastboot... I don't know what I can do
I have used Hasoon's tool, used it solely via cmd and fastboot. It just doesn't work .
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks!

[Q] super cid issue/ adb issue

i was going to s-off the this morning and flash illusion 2.0 but instead i am beating my head off the keyboard. i have been reading all day. i have like 12 tabs open and my main problem is that adb isn't working. not sure what i'm doing wrong. i need to get to supercid. instructions seem easy enough. i go to command prompt, change my directory, everything good here just as usual. when i type "adb shell" i get "error: device offline" don't know what i'm doing wrong. thanks in advance.
I had the same problem. First make sure ADB debugging in advanced options is checked. Next try booting into fastboot. If your on stock try putting it into charge only mode. Try the multiple different ways

It's usb debugging that you need to check. You mentioned that you are on a custom rom ... Is it sense based or aosp? I was still on the stock ics rom when I changed to super cid. Everything went just fine, although I didn't proceed to do Facepalm s-off immediately. I did flash cm10, and came back to finish s-off a couple of weeks later. Nearly drove myself crazy, until I realized it works best when done on a sense rom. Flashed a stock rooted rom, and it literally took about 10 minutes to finish s-off. Restored my cm10 backup, and all is well.
I really appreciate the info. I'm on bb8, which isn't sense. I have USB debugging on. Should I be on a stock rpm to get supercid or just for s-off? My problem is adb won't my phone.
