the H is enabled in many custom roms, you wont see it on stock. but, even though you dont see the H, its still connects to it when it should. the H is cosmetic(unless you dont have hspa in your area).

the HSPDA doesn't show up in CM 5.0.x series

I can see the "H" in the status bar while using Official android 1.5 sense UI in my house ,but when I switch to CM 5.0.7 , it only shows "3G" , does it mean that HSPDA is not suportted by CM ?

its an icon
3g and hsdpa are one and the same
the H is just something that some roms have and others dont
edit, alan beat me to it, =p
And you can make those icons pretty much into anything... like my 8G connection??? LOL

Make that a 4G and you can more realistically mess with friends.

Maybe it's more than an icon?
Turn to Settings => About Phone => Status =>Mobile Network Type, SenseUI shows "HSPDA" and CM shows "UMTS"...

yeaaa so UMTS is voice over 3g and HSDPA is the data part of 3g
maybe you should do some research on what the terms mean before you post?

Hsdpa is also referred to as 3.5G because there is a significant down and up load speed difference. Its still using the 3G infrastructure but is an updated version of it!
I'm pretty sure cyan, in the 5.*, has disabled the H icon and is only using the 3G icon because he was sick of seeing the icons constantly switching.
3G and HSDPA is not the same thing ... HSDPA is 3.5G, not 3G. In the stock ROM my magic sometimes changes from 3G to H. If it's the same, why does it changes? To look pretty? yeah ...
About the icon on the rom, don't know, maybe the rom doesn't support HSDPA, or maybe it changes to it without changing the icon.
I'm using cm 5.0.x and when I'm in a Hsdpa zone it still displays a 3G icon. You still get H speeds but without the sexy icon.

it is the same its just a damn ICON!! cyanogen him self said it.. In fact he did have the "H" icon in test 2 but took it out in test 3 because damn ignorant people didn't know what the f**k the "H" stood for and assumed they where getting no 3G support when in reality they where getting faster speeds.. and by the way just because your not seeing the "H" icon in cm 5xx builds dosent mean your not seeing the 3.5G speeds.. Cyanogen himself said the speed still there just took out the "H" icon due to the fact i have just stated..
I don't know much about these things but, in Alan's CM port the icon is 3G and on the phone Settings-About-Status mine shows mobile network as UMTS and not HSDPA.
With the old libhtc_ril.so from test2 it showed H and HSDPA in status screen.
Honestly
Can you guys read wikipedia
Then maybe you will get it?

What happen to my 3G?

Ever since I been having my Inspire I never seen 3G show up on my status bar. I always see H+ available, H+ connected and E. Never seen 3G yet, what's up with that.

H+ is AT&T's work toward 4G and its faster than your 3G, they have provided this service to all their customers. This is something that happened a few weeks ago...

ATTs stock ROM uses an H+ icon to indicate connectivity to 3G (UMTS), 3.5G (HSDPA), and "4G" (HSPA+). They do this to make customers think that they're ocnnected to "4G" HSPA+ all the time, even when it's not available in your area. Stock ROM also has an E icon for EDGE. Most of the ported DHD ROMs have an E icon for EDGE, a 3G icon for UMTS, and an H icon for HSDPA and HSPA+. The only way you can tell for sure what network you're connected to is by going to Settings - About Phone - Network and looking at your Mobile network type. This will tell you which network you are actually connected to
H is the 3G icon. that is just the way att is displaying it. you wont see 3G as they are calling it H. H stands for HSDPA which is 3g, so no worries you are fine.

[Q] "H" Icon?

Is there a way to get the H icon on my non 4g nexus s? even if i don't really have 4g can i still put this in somehow just for looks?
H icon in the status bar? With the arrows?
Sent from my *****'n Nexus S.
ya thats the one
Um. H is ACTUAL.
2G = EDGE
3G = 3G
3.5G = HSDPA (7.2 download)
4G = 4G
You have to flash a custom ROM. "H" is actual data and not there for looks.
ya im on the oxygen rom....i just wanna know how to get that icon
You should have it. What network you on?
Sent from my *****'n Nexus S.
you probably never heard of it its mts (manitoba telephone service) in canada. rogers shares with us in the area too.
Ya I know that one. Are you on wifi by chance?
Sent from my *****'n Nexus S.
nope not atm
What do you have for a icon in that spot?
Sent from my *****'n Nexus S.
just 3g icon
Well mine was on H a few mins ago, then went on web and it went to 3G. Yours will do same thing.
Sent from my *****'n Nexus S.
i thought H was for web...hmm ok

I told you what "H" is. It's 3.5G. It's not 3G and its not 3.5G
The Oxygen ROM already has "H." If you're using the KD1 radio, downgrade to KB3/KB1/JK8. KD1 doesn't show "H" as much, it's a bug.
"H" is not there for looks. It is a actual connection to your carrier.
G = 1st gen GPRS
E = EDGE (2G)
3G = UMTS
H = HSDPA
4G = 4G
R = Roaming
No Symbol = no mobile data connection established
Some times ROMS incorrectly report 3g/H. You can type *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer to enter test mode which should correctly display whether your connection is UMTS(3G) or HSDPA(H)
Hsdpa is better correct?

Thanks, test mode is useful . I'm using HSDPA but I don't get the "H" icon, just 3G. Using stock ROM on O2 in the UK.

[Q] 4G-LTE not work

hello all ..
I have a question.
I have the i727 phone with Cyanogen and Rooted. 4g icon does not appear in the notification bar, the connection works flawlessly, appearing H, H +, 3G but not 4G icon. What does that mean? before when I was working the STOCK ROM 100% sure the 4G, also tell them that in my country there's Connect 4G. but I'm not sure what type of connection that handles the phone. I downloaded this: << radio att-I727-UCMC1-no-csc-no-ril-cwm >> and I've installed, but still the same. I've also changed the APN, choosing the type of APN I select LTE but in doing so cut the signal. (apparently the phone is not supported)
Details:
Before: ATT & T STOCK JB 4.1.2 Rooted
Now: cm-10.1-20130607-NIGHTLY-SuperSU skyrocket + Root file-0.93-Busybox-1.20.2
Is there a solution?
Excuse my writing, I did it with the help of google translator but stepping reviewing the words to match the text well.
from Paraguay
Thank you!

The stock AT&T ROM shows 4G for HSPA/+ but 4GLTE when there's LTE available. Cyanogenmod reports the actual data connection. It shows H/H+ for HSPA/+ and 4G for LTE. That's probably the confusion.

far as I understand, ATT&T has a fault, shows 4G icon when in fact that is not a Connection Connect 4G. I mean, I understand that: 4G is not the same for H+ because H+ is actually 3.5G. it? is this correct?

Correct; AT&T shows 4G even when it is only actually 3.5G. You were probably only getting H+ all along, but AT&T's software misrepresents your connection.

finally! I get it now! ... thank you very much! it is unfortunate that these errors come from the factory that exist only to confuse people.
10 minutes ago, I called my local operator, and said that the 4G or LTE service is not enabled yet in my country. (Just right through usb modem for LTE notebook works here, but not for mobile phones) so which I now understand that 4G phone on the screen showed when it was actually connected to a 3.5 or H + that would be the same thing ...

[Q] Problem with data (HSPA)

Hi,
I've the i9020a model with cm10.1 and I noticed that few a weeks ago when I was on stock 4.1.2 I had no HSPA icon and my data would download perfect but now on cm data only downloads when the icon is on HSPA and doesn't work when the icon shows 3g network.
I don't think the problem is the carrier (i live in colombia) because the bands are the same in which the nexus works (850/1900).
What do you recommend me to do?
Thanks a lot!

It's perfectly normal.
In stock android the icon always indicates 3g, it never indicates H (hspa) even when it is on hspa. On cm the icon changes to show the difference. But I assure you that even on stock android your network changes to hspa when you download a file. You can see it in settings-about phone-status. So everything seems fine to me.
