CM7 GB crappy battery life! - T-Mobile LG G2x

I am using CM7's 224 nightly build. I'm running GB. Dont get me wrong, the rom is awesome! Its just the battery life is trash!
Has anyone found/developed a fix for this issue? It would be great if I could boost the battery life!
Or does it have to do with the rom as a whole?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

I also get horrible battery with any cm7 ROM. Stock GB gives me amazing battery life though so I stick with it plus it has the LG cam which records video very well.

I like CM's rom tho! Its so much cooler than stock! I guess ill have to give that up if I want better battery life tho huh anyone know how to flash the custom rom back on?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium

Not really. I had same issue you have with regards to battery life in CM7.
Its the apps. You need to look at Running Apps, and simply freeze them. I froze a bunch of apps that weren't suppose to be running. Keep a close eye and do that.
Average life I get on stock battery is 12 hours. Before freezing the apps, I'd get around 6h on low use which sucks.
Trust me, its the apps. Look and get Titanbackup and freeze the apps you have no use for and somehow keep popping up.
I think the Stock 2.3.3 ROM simply puts the smackdown on any apps that launch (and aren't suppose to launch).
Games
Apps
Services
You'll get the battery life but sucks that you have to put that much extra effort on CM7 just go get great battery life.

I just checked out the applications > manage apps> all, and I checked em all. I found random apps running. Stuff I don't even use, or haven't used in awhile. Like the eBay app. I haven't used it in 3 or 4 weeks and its running. Another was the Google books app. Which I have "never" used btw. There were a bunch of apps like this. So odd and creepy! Maps keeps running. Which is most likely because of location access from sites and apps and what not...I'm assuming and hoping!
But thanks for the suggestion/solution and ill let you know the results after I freeze all the unwanted crap.

could be background processing, i.e. grabing info behind the scene's or lyrics etc data yada yada might want to install a os monitor or an app freezer
I got system panel? Will that do?
Any experience with pageonce?

Go to settings - check the battery usage per app.

+1 for system panel app, it does a great job monitoring everything going on and it also has a nice installer feature.

Infuse is getting slower and slower?

Hi sense I got the Infuse almost two weeks ago the phone is getting slower and slower and app's are starting to crash more. Has anyone experiencing this? It reminds me the Captivate and the Vibrant.
Mine seems to be getting laddy. Cant really tell for sure yet why. Apps open slower, such as root explorer and some others.....
Mine too, I have all the same apps installed sense I got it and I font know why but its getting laggy. I have it rooted and has stock. I restart then its on for couple of hours then gets laggy, and I check the processing nothing out of the ordinary.
Sometimes a reboot every once in a while can give a fresh start
Yeah. Im still new at this. Im not rooted and on stock rom. For some reason my phone crashes.

I agree. Using custom ROM's are pretty much like getting a heart transplant. I am running Infused 1.5, and my phone seems like a totally different device. It's more stable, and a lot more responsive, plus all of the AT&T bloatware has been removed. The only time I have to reboot is when I make a change that requires a reboot (i.e. changing LCD density). If you are up to it, I seriously recommend looking in to a custom ROM. Check out the "Infuse 4G Android Development" forum.

+1 on Infused 1.5....buttery smooth
Clear memory. Hold home, task man, ram tab, click level 2, and clear. Maybe a temporary fix but it works for me.
I don't have time to restore apps one by one.

Do you have SPAREPARTS from the market? if you don't download it and go into WINDOWS ANIMATION/set it to FAST and also go into TRANSITION ANIMATION/ set it to FAST as well. this will give you a faster experience.
Backup Apps and Data- Wipe - Don't restore everything at once
I've had this happen to me on both my Captivate and now the Infuse running stock or custom ROM's.
The fix I tracked it down to was...drum rolll. APPS!!!!!
Each app thats installed takes phone resources. If the app is active in the background, when others are all active together, just like a PC, it'll slow it down.
Don't restore all apps at once. Troubleshoot by noting each app install and how the phone behaves. If you were fine before an app or other behavior then things slowed down after, reverse what you did by uninstalling and rebooting. See if the behavior persists.
I had Infused running fine till I added CNN and HuffPo apps. Both of which have background notification services running. After installing them, my battery life went to pot even with JuiceDefender ultimate. So I uninstalled them, fully charged up, went to CWM and reset battery stats.
Upon reboot without CNN and HuffPo, battery use is way better. I did that a couple of days ago so I'll install HuffPo and CNN again one at a time to see if the problem comes back.
Moral of the story. Watch the apps you install. These phones are like small PC's. Be mindful of the effects of the software you install.
I think its same as captivate Samsung is doing something on the file system that's why it gets slow after a week

as a general rule I automatically disable background updates of every app I install
Infused 1.5 was a big win over stock. Switched to Bionix 2.0 and now on Infused 2.0. I think Bionix was slower but more stable than Infused 1.5 (both Froyo). Infused 2.0 (GB) seems to be faster and more stable though only running it for a couple of days. About to drop in Infusion-GB OC/UV kernel. Looks like it will make it even faster.

Can't be sure but it may be that you have too many apps running on. Each widget from a different app runs an app at startup. I just run Battery Monitor Widget.
Lots of other apps run at startup too. Astrid, Skype, and other calendar/messaging apps are included. Some games (eg:"4 in a row") start at boot though I don't know why.
And the stupid Google market has the startup on boot permission hidden.
Some apps allow you to disable auto start, others don't. I tend to delete those unless I really like them.
My new favorite app manager, Gemini App Manager, makes it real easy to find these apps. Just scroll the list of apps looking for ones that have an orange "AU" icon. Gemini App Manager runs better with root but fine without it. And, yes, I know it has an orange "AU" icon next to it. I just think it's worth it.
Many of the complaints I saw from the OP are complaints I've heard frequently about RFS. One of the main reasons why Stock Is Bad.
RFS is so awful that converting it to ext4 has a well-known name - Voodoo Lagfix.
You can also try advanced task manager

[Q] Zapping and Extended Life Battery... should I root?

Hello All,
I've got a Droid X with the handy and convenient one-click root method Z4root. However, my wife's Droid Charge is an entirely different story. So far I haven't rooted it because I'm hoping to use that as a last resort (I don't want to brick her phone).
She was having some trouble with battery life, so she bought a Samsung extended life battery. Instead of her phone dying within 4 hours of a full charge it could make it pretty much all day. But this week all of a sudden, even with that, she's back down to 6 hours, if that.
Early on when she got the phone I downloaded Advanced Task Killer for her and gave her some basic tips (low brightness, no mobile data, etc.), but I'm at a loss. I'm not sure if it's the GB update or what. I'm almost ready to root her phone and roll it back to Froyo because I think that's part of the problem, but I'm at a loss. Do you guys have any suggestions? Or is rooting, battery calibrating, and cleaning out bloatware my only option? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks Droid experts!!!
Don't use advanced task killer first of all. It will probably reduce battery life. GB update has made the battery better in all situations.
Whether or not to root is really up to you however if you do decide to root it is actually quite easy to root EP4D(the latest OTA update). Here is an easy to follow write up that I did:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434738
Personally I rooted my phone and I have loved it. When I was using stock rom debloating did help some with my battery life. The biggest difference I found however when when I flashed eclipse and imnuts pbj EP4D kernel on to my phone. Eclipse is an awesome rom that is already debloated and has been tweaked to run super smooth. Imnuts pbj kernel has lots of great performance and power saving features(for example the ability to undervolt). Running stock I would get about 8 hours of moderate use from my standard battery(1600mah) and 4 hours of heavy use. Running Eclipse with imnuts kernel I get 18-20 hours moderate use and 8-10 hours heavy use.

calibrating the battery would probably help. id check to see whats running; gps, wifi, bt, etc. also it could be a rogue app that is sucking up all the juice. juice defender could help and if u have no use for location apps u can go into setting/location and turn off stand alone gps, google location, and vzw location. but def root the phone and put a custom kernel and rom on the phone, there will be a big difference.
I find that Facebook often runs rampant and needs to be told to stfu constantly. Also, a custom kernel with aggressive undervolting will help too.

Best rom on battery saver

Does any one know what is the best rom to save more battery or the best kernel. Now i have gb 2.3.6 here is an screenshot

Look at the guide in the first link of my signature. The ROM's listed (icbinb included) coupled with AntonX's kernel and one of the tweaks, I think, will give you the best combo available to us.
Remember to keep wifi and sync off when not using. Use Gemini App Manager or similar app from market to stop apps from unnecessarily starting when you don't need them to. If you don't use wifi calling remove or freeze the app along with other apps you don't use. Read about undervolting your phone. I feel like that has helped me.
Thanks a lot...

I run the latest version of Valhalla black(not FB) and I can get a day's use no problem. Looking at my phone now, it has 8 battery left and is at 18hr 41m. This isnt right as I took it off the charger at 8am this morning and its 2:30am now. Hasnt been on charger since, so thats pretty good in my book. I leave Wifi on, but it only connects when I'm home. I did a full shift of work, 8-5 on 4g. Heavy texting, some web browsing and small time on other apps, downloaded some apps. Just all basic use of my smartphone. I never had to worry about the battery on this rom. Use the music app to play music through my car during commute. Yeah, this is what I would suggest to use as a rom. I have been on Valhalla for a few months now. Only thing that is weird is random reboots. Which only happen... maybe once a week. It doesnt affect anything, well, not anything to my knowledge or the basic use of my phone. So yeah, results may vary but give it a shot!
Thats pretty good.... I charge my phone two time a day... May be bad battery.... But i think that i need to change my rom first...
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
I'd say Hebrew Valhalla with atonx's latest kernel and undervolting has had the best battery life for me. I can easily get through the whole way with moderate to heavy use while still having 50% battery left when its time to go to bed. As long as you don't change the localizations, its completely in English so think of it as Valhalla final but updated. I love it!

[Q] Memory leak, battery problems, and screen issues.

First, my phone has a memory leak. Like, after using it for a while, even an hour or two, the available memory will go to 0. I have tried ending all apps that could be suspect, but all of the memory being used that is reported by the settings is much less than what is necessary for there to be <10MB of available memory. I even try to end as many programs as I can, but this eventually happens after some usage. Before you ask, no, I am not using task-killers, and I only notice this and end apps when whatever is leaking is starting. The phone will not effectively end enough applications to free the space. Almost every app will say "restarting" on the "running" page, and none will be seen on the "cached" page. It will result in the phone locking up and rebooting. Also, this happens during high CPU usage (might be a memory issue though), like while updating apps.
Second, my battery life since the OTA has dropped significantly. Now, I am lucky if I get 6-8 hours of battery life while occasionally using the phone and listening to music a lot. The screen seems to be taking most of the power (~65%), and the brightness is regulated by JuiceDefender. I have tried to automatically set it without JD, and it was worse in battery life. It is on much less than the wifi, yet is somehow taking up far more battery. Second place is the Android OS/System/Mediaserver combined (~20%), for whatever reason. I have tried using the Battery Calibration application multiple times and it has not helped. Disabling JD makes battery issues worse. I have looked for wakelocks, but besides the charger, I found none that looked suspicious/non-OS related. See attached file for battery info.
Third, for some reason, the dead pixels came back? Now, it looked like at first there was a shape of a butterfly in spotted dead pixels. Most of those localizations disappeared (or, the "dead" pixels came back to "life"), but a few grew, and now I have somewhere over 100 dead pixels. A few of those have shrunk, but it is still an eyesore. I can provide pictures if it will help. I'm not sure why it is doing this.
Note: all of these issues have started since the ICS OTA. I reflashed the stock OS before doing the OTA.
Any help would be greatly appreciated for any of these!

Yeah mine is like that or worse if I have wifi/screen on as much as you do.
The drain is pretty steady even with minimal usage
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

try FXZ stock ICS
freeze all unneccessary apps ...
dont install any other extra apps (downloadin from market)
try to keep minimum apps..
stay as much on 2G/Wi-Fi
ur battery should last for atleast more than 18 hrs for moderate use (else it will drain dependin on how heavy u use)
if this doesn't work then u'll need expert advice
& remember you'll get rarely above 24 hrs (usage matters a lot)
correct me if m wrong ...
I am also facing the same issues. I have the latest STOCK ICS.
Huge memory leak! Launcher has to restart on every unlock barely 20-7 mbs free!! and battery also drains pretty fast, although not when in sleep.
try "fast reboot"
it will clear some memory
