[Q] Multiple updates in market results in reboot [EOS 81] - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I need help.. I've encountered a problem last week that forced me to reflash stock images , see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461658
And now I fear the same problem is coming again.
When I update multiple apps in market, I'm taken back to the login screen (vm crash? don't know enough android) and after trying to slide to unlock, reboot
I've posted my logcat here (in 3 parts, 280kb)
http://paste.debian.net/159757/
http://paste.debian.net/159758/
http://paste.debian.net/159759/
This log shows:
I restarted my xoom, restarted my router.
It gets a connection, I go in googleplay, click update all (3 packages: titanium, google earth and another one I can't remember)
Sent to login, no wireless connection, trying to unlock, reboot after 30s (watchdog probably)
The tablet is freshly reinstalled, I have like 30 known apps from the market. I have eos 81 but problem was also there on 75. and latest gapps. 216Mhz-1000 and no wifiN.
Don't know what to do.
If more info is needed, ask, I'm sure this will happen again at the next update.
Thank you

Did you do a full wipe-factory data reset before you flashed EOS 81 and GAPPS?
If it crashes after you try to update those 3 packages ... don't update them.
Backup your apps with Titanium -Unroot/re-root - reinstall your apps one by one. It might be a problem app -

Here are the apps:
Wattpad
Adobe reader
Android term emulator
Asphalt 6
aTorrent
CPU Spy
Dolphin
FBReader
Fing
Google Earth
GPS Essentials
GTA3
HP eprint
Lumberjack
MX Video player
Orbot
Root Explorer
SpeedHUD
SSHDroid
SuperUser
Tapatalk pro
Titanium pro
TuneIn Radio
Where's my water
Wifi Analyzer
Wireless Thether for Root
XDA Premium
Zen Pinball THD
Only two apps running: orbot (that I didn't have installed before) and sshdroid.
I could yes although I'm sceptic it would create googleplay crash and tablet reboot.
edit: I just erased userdata and only reinstalled the strict minimum, that is.. terminal emulator let's see. not sure how I will see the problem if I have so few apps meaning so few updates

I've had this exact same problem since I updated my (STOCK) Xoom WiFi to ICS (4.0.2).
When updating multiple apps in Google Market (now Google Play, same problem) if screen timeouts (I have mine set to 1 minute), if I press power button to re-enable the screen... BAM! reboot. I updated yesterday to ICS 4.0.4 (as I mentioned, STOCK... never rooted) and tried to update about 20 apps, when screen timeouts I immediately press the power button to re-enable the screen... REBOOT. It continued the update that was interrupted when it rebooted tho.
Don't know what to do... This is stock and I do not want to root it if I can avoid it.

Need help with G Tablet and Market

I have tried two market fixes here and one from youtube. Non have worked for me so far. Each time I wipe and start from scratch, I cannot find any of my purchased apps. I cannot search for even the most common apps! Can someone help?
Here is what I did after I purchased it..
1. Ran the root exploit. Gained root access on the device with the Viewsonic UI.
2. Downloaded Rom Manager and TnT Lite 2.2. I installed TnT Lite without installing clockworkmod though. Didn't run into any problems.
3. Noticed the Market problem and immediately searched and asked here and wound up doing the fix thats on top of this page.. Nothing, followed all instructions.
4. Did an older Market fix, tried a youtube market fix.
I am not getting desperate though as I just got it today and I'm having a blast with the flash 10 web browsing and wifi tethering on the go.
Thanks. Sorry if this doesn't belong here.

Seems like quite a few people have been having this issue, myself included. Just keep trying it should eventually work. Took me an hour or so to get it working last night on the Vegan alpha.
Only thing I can think of that I did differently the time it finally worked was immediately after seeing the error in the market power down, didnt click ok, just powered down immediately. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or if it was just coincidence but give it a shot.
Here is a youtube video on how to fix the market place. You will
also need to install titanium backup too.

I dont think his issue is with doing the fix, its that for some people the fix doesnt work on the first try and takes some repeated attempts to get it to work.

oh .. didn't know that was a issue .. it worked on the first try I did it ..
Looking forward to the next release of TnT lite ..
@necromonger89 I'm not certain we totally understand the effect of using ROM manager to flash TNT Lite over stock on the data in the user partition, or for that matter, switching from stock TNT to TNTLite without wiping data, or at least cache. I highly suggest installing clockwork mod, wiping everything, and flashing TNT Lite or other ROMs that way for now, because we are pretty certain the Market fix will work for you then.

I haven't yet been convinced that anybody has done these fixes correctly (with a normally flashed ROM and clean user data, at least - the original poster in this thread is in an unusual situation) and had them not work on any consistent basis. I sincerely doubt that some sort of fundamental hardware difference makes Market fix sometimes work, sometimes not.
With some ROMs, like ZPad, I have had to reboot 2-3 times before Market could repopulate it's cache (i.e. every time I started Market it would error again after doing the fix - this is the non-Titanium fix, i.e. clear Market cache, force stop market, clear Google Services Framework data, force stop GSF, start Market and let it error, then reboot). And I had to make absolutely certain wifi was connected after reboot and good signal strength before trying to start up Market, or it would error out again, I'd have to reboot and try again.
On the VEGAn ROM, on the other hand, the Market fix works the first time every try, although with alpha 1 it screws up the Camera (fixable by reflash of ZIP).
Most of the people complaining that it doesn't work seem to end up realizing they did something wrong, i.e. they cleared data on Market instead of clearing cache, or failed to force stop one of the apps.
I've done this literally dozens of times now, while I was experimenting with my improved market fix.

Check my post over in the Vegan thread. I wiped data and cache on the device(three differnet times) on the applications countless times and it took me over an hour to get the market working. I must have rebooted and retried 50 times before it eventually worked. Not sure why some people have the issue and some dont.
All I can say that the methods that I've used twice and which worked were the Titanium based Google Services 2.2 wipe and manually using access from the TnT settings, both done under TnTL 2.0.2 & 2.1.1. (Didn't wipe for TnTL 2.2.0 and market is still working...)
Titanium way:
1. Ran market, tried dl (IIRC) been a couple weeks since I did these
2. Titanium to wipe Google Services 2.2
3. Ran market no error
4. Settings -> force close market
5. Used TnT setting -> apps force closed market
6. Redid Titanium Google Services wipe
7. Ran market no error
8. sames as (4)
9. Redid Titanium Google Services wipe (probably not necessary)
10. Settings -> force close Google Services
11. Run market error
12. reboot
13. market works, but w/usual missing apps, but most there
The key for me I believe was using settings (or any other app that can force close/kill) to FC market, run Titanium and THEN again using some way to FC that which was never mentioned in any of the tutorials at the time that I saw and I figured it out by going way back to the phone(or whatever it was -- it's slightly different as I have TnT setting and 2.2 v. 2.1 in that original hack IIRC) market hack that this was based off of. So this should work:
1. Run market
2. download IIRC -> fail
3. FC market some how
4. wipe Google Services cache some how
5. FC Google Services
6. Run market -> error
7. reboot
(Above steps may not be 100% accurate, i.e. may have missed a step as I haven't done this in weeks now and only did it twice. My other two devices I used ENTIRELY different methods to enable market.)
I did this essentially the first time using Titanium, but that's not necessary as it may also be accomplished by simply using settings to do the FC and cache clearing. The key problem for me appeared to be that Google Services had to be FCed before this works and the version of Titanium(free and whatever it was at that time) wasn't FCing Google Services & also needed to FC market as well IIRC.
I did it using the Settings app the second time as I didn't have access to Titanium when I installed TnTL 2.1.1 which I did directly on the tablet.
(I'll have to keep better track of exactly what is needed next time I do a fw update that requires a full wipage.)

Finally, I don't understand though. I tried this exact method yesterday and nothing happened. Well thanks everyone, I am finally able to get my paid apps from the Market.

apps wont install from the market?

Just set up my Transformer and have gone into the market, when i click on install for any app, and ok the permissions, it does nothing, just sits on the info screen for the app i was looking at. My data connection is fine.
any ideas?
I have tried clearing the cache and data from the market app in manage apps.
Not sure what was going on, It has now started downloading ok.
delete the tread if you like.
sorry.
Actually, got my new Transformer today...it proceeds to download but then errors out...rebooted...same thing...can't download or update any apps.
same here
Had mine just over a day, can't install anything from market. Google says to log onto Google talk, but THAT does not work either ... just times out.
But can surf the web just fine, and navigate around Market just fine.
So now what?
thanks, Ian
Have you tried clearing data and cache for the market?

Yes, cleared the data, there was nothing in the cache. Seems to be a common problem, and various different solutions work for some people but not others (on assorted devices). I have mailed Google but so far no response .... have no problems downloading stuff to my Galaxy S2 over same WiFi network ...
bump
Got the same issue since I got a failed firmware update. A fix would be great
this happened to me too, downloading from android market is a hit-and-miss thing... sometimes it downloads on the first try, sometimes i have to retry it a couple of times before it finally download, and somerimes it wont ever download at all (sometimes it leaves the downloading notification stuck)
I have also seen this behaviour - apps would download, then nothing. Clicking on 'INSTALL' again on the Market store entry would usually then do a successful download and install.
Solution?
Can you guys try this, which seems to work for me (as in: after installing Custom ROMs, is what worked ...)
1. set you phone into WiFi Tethering Mode.
2. connect Transformer to use WiFi via the phone
3. log onto market and initiate download.
4. should work fine. Then disconnect from phone, use normal WiFi connection, and it should work.
I've had long discussions with Google about this. They told me to open a bunch of ports on my router, which seemed to help, but is not THE permanent solution. I think Google, for some reason, needs a fix on your position before they validate you initially, which is what they get when you connect via a cellphone.
The ports in question are:
outgoing TCP and UDP connections to 443 + 5222-5443 port range.
Note: there is often a delay when ordering something from Market via website, and getting it sent to device. This is normal. Downloading via Market App should be faster.
Good luck.
Cheers, Ian
I have the same problem...I've tried every possible "fix" and nothing really works...I'm running stock not even rooted, I've had this problem ever since I got the 3.1 ota. Hoping for a fix in 3.2
I've noticed this too. I select an app to download, then I can see the progress bar of the download and then it changes to "Waiting to install" and just stays there. What I usually do is click the "back" button (or touch it or whatever), then click the app again and push the "install" button again. Then it installs fine.
It's not a deal breaker, but it is kind of annoying.
You can try downloading the newer market. I couldn't download apps with the old market, so I downloaded the new market .apk and can download apps from there.
Did you find the apk in these forums?

Did a system wipe of my device (with backup of course), everything is working again as it was ( after recreating the account ), clearing the cache/data has not helped.

the solution is one and follow my steps cause this thing almost drove me crazy for a week and yes,i could not install anything.
1.erase everything from the internal memory of your transformer connected to your computer. i mean, from the pc move them all to recycle bin.
2. go to recovery menu, and do a wipe data and wipe cache.then do a wipe dalvik cache and then fresh install from install from sd card the revolver rom.
3.HERE IS THE TRICKY PART.
after the first boot, you must do a factory reset of the tablet from the option inside the honeycomb, from the settings.
(NOT from the recovery menu)
i dont remember where this is,i think in development, you will find out.
after the factory reset you will see and android yellow box and the tab will do a reset and erase everything.
Voila! The market will work like a dream and you will never have again problem.
Trust me...i searched a lot for this problem...its the only solution.
they say its a bug in the android secure folder or something and only with a reformat of the file structure it can be solved.
I noticed that disconnecting and reconnecting Google talk solves that installation problem from the market.

[Q] HELP! Atrix 2 cannot click [INSTALL] for APK files

I just bought the Atrix 2 few days back and I notice that after the phone has been started for a while, and I restart my phone, the APK cannot be installed anymore.
Model: MB865
Android Version: 2.3.6
Kernal Version: 2.6.35.7-g313792c
Build Number: 5.5.1-EDEM-27
Details below:
1st Attempt:
- Bought the phone and transferred my SD card with my previous phone apps backup in APK.
- Did the initial phone setup by tagging the phone to my google account, went into Google Market to install a battery status apps, surf some web, etc.
- Restart the phone and when the phone turns back on, tried select the APK file, enable the "Allow install of non-Market applications" and continue with the apk installation. It came out the permission page with [INSTALL] & [CANCEL] button at the bottom. Tried touching the [INSTALL] but no response. It's like a dummy button. Then [CANCEL] will exit the permission page.
- Tried other apps in APK, same issue.
- Called Motorola support line and she asked me to Factory Data Reset my phone from the Privacy in the Setting page.
2nd Attempt:
- Initial setup my phone as per usual by tagging the phone to my google account. Once the phone started, immediately, I use the file manager to browse my APK backup folder and install some apps with no issue. The [INSTALL] button can be clicked and apps installed properly.
- Use the phone for a while, restart the phone and turn back on... tried install other APK again... same issue happened, the [INSTALL] button became a dummy button again.
- Factory Data Reset my phone from the Privacy in the Setting page again to try again.
3rd Attempt:
- Suspect that it may be automatically downloading some apps from the google store, so this time round, I just turn on the phone without tagging to any of my account, not even my google account so that the phone should not automatically download apps from the market that may clashed with the system.
- Use the phone to do basic web surfing for a while, and then restart the phone.
- Phone restarted and try to install APK files, same issue happened again.
With the above tries, I suspected the issue (APK cannot be installed because [INSTALL] button cannot be clicked) is not due to any apps conflicting the system, but maybe some hidden updates download from google unknowingly that is incompatible to the Android system.
Further findings shows that my bro has a Atrix 1 and I asked him to restart his phone to try install some APKs, same issue with [INSTALL] button.
My 2 other friends has a LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Black, both running Android as well. I asked both to restart their phone and try to install some APKs, and everything works fine.
I seriously think that there are some conflict with the some google "hidden" update, maybe Play Google?, that disabled the [INSTALL] button as initially when phone factory resetted is ok. If this is the case, no point to go down Motorola repair centre as they cannot do anything as well until new updates from Motorola available.
Will anyone with Atrix 1 or Atrix 2 phones kindly check if you have such issue? Restart your phone 1st if the initial attempt is working as the update may activate only after the phone is restarted, such as the icon changing Google Market to Play Google, that disable the [INSTALL] button when installing APKs.
Let me know if you have a non-rooted solution, ok? Do not intend to root my phone yet. Thank you.
Have you install screen adjuster??
Sent from my ME865 using XDA App
Hmmm. I think this may be somethign to do with your service area, not the devices. My phone has the Google Play update and installs APK files just fine. I've done multiple reboots to try and replicate your issue and can't. But the fact that you say it happens on your Atrix 2 AND your brother's Atrix 4G makes me think something in your area is giving you a corrupted update. Don't know if that could be the case for sure, as I'm not an AT&T or Motorola employee, but for two different devices with two different chipsets to have the same issue, I'd think it's a corrupt download.
Its happened to my A2 as well. I got frustrated w/ it so i rebooted into recovery, wiped data & cache. Problem solved for me.

I had the same problem on my Atrix 2.
The following appears to have fixed it for me:
1) go to Settings->Applications
2) uncheck "Unknown Sources"
3) try to install (you'll get an error)
4) go back and recheck "Unknown Sources"
5) try to install again
The "Install" button now works, and keeps working.
this works

Screen Filter app also generates this problem
Thanks for this thread. I found screen filter also has the same effect. So, before installing any apk, just close screen filter if active and then install. Works without any problem.
If you have screen filter installed then plz disabled it and try to install.

Same problem with At&T Note 2
I've been reading all the "solutions" to the dead INSTALL button and I don't have any screen filters installed. I did get the "Unknown Source" installation to work once after I froze the Google Account Manager app. Unfortunately it only worked once. I've done all the "basics" over and over.

Go to settings apps then look under the all apps tab and find google play, click on that, then force stop, clear data, and remove updates.
Next go back and launch the google play store again and link it to your goolge account when it asks you to. Also of course agree to the terms and let google play update again. Now try and see if that fixes this a little more permanently for you. I had this issue back in GB when the google play store updated to version 3 and changed to the google play store from google apps and this worked for me.
Thank you jimbridgman. That didn't seem to be a permanent solution, although I may have done something wrong. This is what worked for me:
It appears that many apps have something to do with screen "filtering" or sensitivity that can cause this problem. After going through many of my apps and "freezing" them I came upon Gesture Launcher. Freezing that has solved my problem, at least for now. My fingers are crossed. I'm posting this to help others if they may have the same problem.
Once again thanks for helping and if my problem reoccurs I'll try your solution again.
LOL it happened to me today. the culprit is screen adjuster app.! Disabled it and I could install!

Droid Charge Won't Erase Properly, Help!

My Charge has a new quirk. Every time I do a factory reset, it takes forever on the droid animation, then loads and lists apps that should have been erased as stopping unexpectedly. Every time. Didn't matter whether I selected it from the menu on the phone, or held the up/power/home buttons.
So I fired up Odin 1.85 when I got home, selected the Charge pit file and CI510_VZW_EP4_ALL_ONE-LTE-CP_REV03_user_CL706183_ship.tar.md5, told Odin to Re-partition, Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time, and it took forever to reboot. Upon rebooting it again started listing a whole bunch of programs that should have been erased as stopping AND that the Setup has stopped unexpectedly.
I've never seen this kind of weirdness before. Just ran Odin again with a much older file (CI510_VZW_EE4_ALL_ONE-LTE-CP_REV03_user_CL1014954.tar.md5) and I am waiting for the phone to finish the animation and boot up. Just now the droid animation entered a loop, listing Droid, showing the eye for a bit, then repeating. Joy.
Guess it is time to try a more recent file.
Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong with my phone? Wondering if the rom is bad and I will be without a phone for a while.
I've had this before. I think I ended up spamming with the PIT until it got the hint and erased everything. You can try SamsungPST too...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda premium
That sounds like it is worth a shot. I'll try it tomorrow. Spent 56 minutes on the phone with Verizon covering it. Took 12 minutes to boot up once. 9 minutes another try.
how are you doing the factory reset, via CWM or in the phone's settings?
Base phone, it is not rooted. Vol up, home, power or from inside the phone's option. Both still leave 17 apps that are not part of the base rom and a mix of updates for things like the Play Store. Same when I format the phone with a PIT file and the most recently complete rom I have.

I do expect the animation to take some time to boot up again (similar to when wiping cache/dalvik) after a reset. what are some of the apps that show up? are you able to delete them manually?

I have not been able to get the Market to work for adding to this phone. So far is seems limited to browser, calling, texting, and camera. Almost every app FCs. Also it no longer tries to run and FC Setup, and some of the Market's updates remain. lol

those all look like 3rd party non-bloat apps.
are any of these apps stored on your SDCard? if so, then that could be the reason. if not, then.....
what happens when you try to uninstall them via TiBu?
what happens if you just try to flash a new ROM via CWM? here's what I would do: flash in ninjaROM's FP5 build via CWM and see if that clears everything out (making sure to wipe data/factory reset, mount system, then install zip

are any of these apps stored on your SDCard? if so, then that could be the reason. if not, then.....
what happens when you try to uninstall them via TiBu?
what happens if you just try to flash a new ROM via CWM? here's what I would do: flash in ninjaROM's FP5 build via CWM and see if that clears everything out (making sure to wipe data/factory reset, mount system, then install zip

Remember, STOCK, not rooted. Show up even with SD card removed before booting. Stayed even through reformatting with a PIT file. Last through factory resets. Freaky. "New" phone should be here tomorrow.
Can you flash a kernel? If so you could try flashing pbj then using ext4 formatter to see if it works.

Worth a shot, but as I said, my replacement is coming in tomorrow. Just a freaky problem. I didn't even know the rom could accept 3rd party items and be edited on a stock phone.
So far so good on the Charge replacement. Had some issues getting wifi net access working (ended up manually putting in settings, then it cleared up). Still has some software quirks (set dock to never come on, hit home to exit FoxFi and there is the car dock screen) but it works as well as the other did before it died.
Hurry up and release a new Nexus phone worth having, Google! Something better than a GS3.

[Q] Google Play connectivity and TWRP/CWM backup data

Harware:
Asus Transformer Infinity (rooted and unlocked)
ROM:
CleanROM
Ok, so before I flashed CleanROM I created a backup using CWM. After installing flashing CleanROM and installing a TON of apps from all over the place.(xda, torrentz, play store) I foolishly used goo. Manager to install TWRP. After all of this was installed my tablet continued to perform normally for a few days and then Google play took a MASSIVE DUMP all over my Transformer. So here's my issue:
Primary:
Google play store sporadically refuses to connect. I believe it is some sort of security protocol error. Because, when I try using browser to access the website it shows ~10 consecutive security certificate trust warnings. It last happened two days ago and was happening at least once a day for awhile. Even after I force stopped nearly all downloaded apps, and removed nearly all from startup and manually installed the newest version of Google play. When the error is occurring Google play will open and just stay at a gray background saying, "No Connection", I hit the retry button, but it searches for a second then says no connection found again. This has happened on over three separate wifi networks and each lasted varying times at different times of the day.:cyclops:
Seconday:
So my solution was to try a factory data reset and re-install my apps using either Titanium or App backup. However, I didn't want to do this without transferring my backup data over to my PC for safe storage. So my question is this, does installing TWRP delete/corrupt the backup data stored on the SD card by CWM? Attatched is a pic of my CWM backup folder hopefully containing my stock Asus JB, I really don't want to lose this just in case I ever need it again. But, it seems exceedingly small to be a full backup of the default JB loadout.
Weirdly:
I have a small battery indicator in the middle top of my screen that places itself on top of anything on screen and is always visible... any ideas?
Summary:
Sooo, are there any things that could be affecting Google play connectivity that I installed personally and would a factory data reset even help?
Also, does the attatched picture seem like it could be a valid recovery file of Asus JB? It seems really small...
Finally, strangest of all a small battery indicator shows up in the middle of my screen. VERY annoying.
Thanks in advance for any help.
