apps wont install from the market? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just set up my Transformer and have gone into the market, when i click on install for any app, and ok the permissions, it does nothing, just sits on the info screen for the app i was looking at. My data connection is fine.
any ideas?
I have tried clearing the cache and data from the market app in manage apps.

Not sure what was going on, It has now started downloading ok.
delete the tread if you like.
sorry.

Actually, got my new Transformer today...it proceeds to download but then errors out...rebooted...same thing...can't download or update any apps.

same here
Had mine just over a day, can't install anything from market. Google says to log onto Google talk, but THAT does not work either ... just times out.
But can surf the web just fine, and navigate around Market just fine.
So now what?
thanks, Ian

Have you tried clearing data and cache for the market?

Yes, cleared the data, there was nothing in the cache. Seems to be a common problem, and various different solutions work for some people but not others (on assorted devices). I have mailed Google but so far no response .... have no problems downloading stuff to my Galaxy S2 over same WiFi network ...

bump
Got the same issue since I got a failed firmware update. A fix would be great

this happened to me too, downloading from android market is a hit-and-miss thing... sometimes it downloads on the first try, sometimes i have to retry it a couple of times before it finally download, and somerimes it wont ever download at all (sometimes it leaves the downloading notification stuck)

I have also seen this behaviour - apps would download, then nothing. Clicking on 'INSTALL' again on the Market store entry would usually then do a successful download and install.

Solution?
Can you guys try this, which seems to work for me (as in: after installing Custom ROMs, is what worked ...)
1. set you phone into WiFi Tethering Mode.
2. connect Transformer to use WiFi via the phone
3. log onto market and initiate download.
4. should work fine. Then disconnect from phone, use normal WiFi connection, and it should work.
I've had long discussions with Google about this. They told me to open a bunch of ports on my router, which seemed to help, but is not THE permanent solution. I think Google, for some reason, needs a fix on your position before they validate you initially, which is what they get when you connect via a cellphone.
The ports in question are:
outgoing TCP and UDP connections to 443 + 5222-5443 port range.
Note: there is often a delay when ordering something from Market via website, and getting it sent to device. This is normal. Downloading via Market App should be faster.
Good luck.
Cheers, Ian

I have the same problem...I've tried every possible "fix" and nothing really works...I'm running stock not even rooted, I've had this problem ever since I got the 3.1 ota. Hoping for a fix in 3.2

I've noticed this too. I select an app to download, then I can see the progress bar of the download and then it changes to "Waiting to install" and just stays there. What I usually do is click the "back" button (or touch it or whatever), then click the app again and push the "install" button again. Then it installs fine.
It's not a deal breaker, but it is kind of annoying.

You can try downloading the newer market. I couldn't download apps with the old market, so I downloaded the new market .apk and can download apps from there.

Did you find the apk in these forums?

Did a system wipe of my device (with backup of course), everything is working again as it was ( after recreating the account ), clearing the cache/data has not helped.

I have the exact same issue on my tf as ferparedes.

the solution is one and follow my steps cause this thing almost drove me crazy for a week and yes,i could not install anything.
1.erase everything from the internal memory of your transformer connected to your computer. i mean, from the pc move them all to recycle bin.
2. go to recovery menu, and do a wipe data and wipe cache.then do a wipe dalvik cache and then fresh install from install from sd card the revolver rom.
3.HERE IS THE TRICKY PART.
after the first boot, you must do a factory reset of the tablet from the option inside the honeycomb, from the settings.
(NOT from the recovery menu)
i dont remember where this is,i think in development, you will find out.
after the factory reset you will see and android yellow box and the tab will do a reset and erase everything.
Voila! The market will work like a dream and you will never have again problem.
Trust me...i searched a lot for this problem...its the only solution.
they say its a bug in the android secure folder or something and only with a reformat of the file structure it can be solved.

I noticed that disconnecting and reconnecting Google talk solves that installation problem from the market.

Need help with G Tablet and Market

I have tried two market fixes here and one from youtube. Non have worked for me so far. Each time I wipe and start from scratch, I cannot find any of my purchased apps. I cannot search for even the most common apps! Can someone help?
Here is what I did after I purchased it..
1. Ran the root exploit. Gained root access on the device with the Viewsonic UI.
2. Downloaded Rom Manager and TnT Lite 2.2. I installed TnT Lite without installing clockworkmod though. Didn't run into any problems.
3. Noticed the Market problem and immediately searched and asked here and wound up doing the fix thats on top of this page.. Nothing, followed all instructions.
4. Did an older Market fix, tried a youtube market fix.
I am not getting desperate though as I just got it today and I'm having a blast with the flash 10 web browsing and wifi tethering on the go.
Thanks. Sorry if this doesn't belong here.

Seems like quite a few people have been having this issue, myself included. Just keep trying it should eventually work. Took me an hour or so to get it working last night on the Vegan alpha.
Only thing I can think of that I did differently the time it finally worked was immediately after seeing the error in the market power down, didnt click ok, just powered down immediately. Not sure if that had anything to do with it or if it was just coincidence but give it a shot.

I dont think his issue is with doing the fix, its that for some people the fix doesnt work on the first try and takes some repeated attempts to get it to work.

oh .. didn't know that was a issue .. it worked on the first try I did it ..
Looking forward to the next release of TnT lite ..
@necromonger89 I'm not certain we totally understand the effect of using ROM manager to flash TNT Lite over stock on the data in the user partition, or for that matter, switching from stock TNT to TNTLite without wiping data, or at least cache. I highly suggest installing clockwork mod, wiping everything, and flashing TNT Lite or other ROMs that way for now, because we are pretty certain the Market fix will work for you then.

I haven't yet been convinced that anybody has done these fixes correctly (with a normally flashed ROM and clean user data, at least - the original poster in this thread is in an unusual situation) and had them not work on any consistent basis. I sincerely doubt that some sort of fundamental hardware difference makes Market fix sometimes work, sometimes not.
With some ROMs, like ZPad, I have had to reboot 2-3 times before Market could repopulate it's cache (i.e. every time I started Market it would error again after doing the fix - this is the non-Titanium fix, i.e. clear Market cache, force stop market, clear Google Services Framework data, force stop GSF, start Market and let it error, then reboot). And I had to make absolutely certain wifi was connected after reboot and good signal strength before trying to start up Market, or it would error out again, I'd have to reboot and try again.
On the VEGAn ROM, on the other hand, the Market fix works the first time every try, although with alpha 1 it screws up the Camera (fixable by reflash of ZIP).
Most of the people complaining that it doesn't work seem to end up realizing they did something wrong, i.e. they cleared data on Market instead of clearing cache, or failed to force stop one of the apps.
I've done this literally dozens of times now, while I was experimenting with my improved market fix.

Check my post over in the Vegan thread. I wiped data and cache on the device(three differnet times) on the applications countless times and it took me over an hour to get the market working. I must have rebooted and retried 50 times before it eventually worked. Not sure why some people have the issue and some dont.
All I can say that the methods that I've used twice and which worked were the Titanium based Google Services 2.2 wipe and manually using access from the TnT settings, both done under TnTL 2.0.2 & 2.1.1. (Didn't wipe for TnTL 2.2.0 and market is still working...)
Titanium way:
1. Ran market, tried dl (IIRC) been a couple weeks since I did these
2. Titanium to wipe Google Services 2.2
3. Ran market no error
4. Settings -> force close market
5. Used TnT setting -> apps force closed market
6. Redid Titanium Google Services wipe
7. Ran market no error
8. sames as (4)
9. Redid Titanium Google Services wipe (probably not necessary)
10. Settings -> force close Google Services
11. Run market error
12. reboot
13. market works, but w/usual missing apps, but most there
The key for me I believe was using settings (or any other app that can force close/kill) to FC market, run Titanium and THEN again using some way to FC that which was never mentioned in any of the tutorials at the time that I saw and I figured it out by going way back to the phone(or whatever it was -- it's slightly different as I have TnT setting and 2.2 v. 2.1 in that original hack IIRC) market hack that this was based off of. So this should work:
1. Run market
2. download IIRC -> fail
3. FC market some how
4. wipe Google Services cache some how
5. FC Google Services
6. Run market -> error
7. reboot
(Above steps may not be 100% accurate, i.e. may have missed a step as I haven't done this in weeks now and only did it twice. My other two devices I used ENTIRELY different methods to enable market.)
I did this essentially the first time using Titanium, but that's not necessary as it may also be accomplished by simply using settings to do the FC and cache clearing. The key problem for me appeared to be that Google Services had to be FCed before this works and the version of Titanium(free and whatever it was at that time) wasn't FCing Google Services & also needed to FC market as well IIRC.
I did it using the Settings app the second time as I didn't have access to Titanium when I installed TnTL 2.1.1 which I did directly on the tablet.
(I'll have to keep better track of exactly what is needed next time I do a fw update that requires a full wipage.)

[Q] can't download apps from market

First of all, this isn't my phone. It's my sister's. Anyway, when she downloads an app from Market, it starts the download and shows up in the notification bar, and then like 3 seconds later, it just disappears. It shows up in "My Apps" but it's not downloaded...like it's in the list, but it still asks to download it. The phone is not rooted. I can't seem to figure out what to do...Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Greg
I've had this happen to me before. In fact happened just last night. Turned out last night my wifi was on the fritz. I turned it off in my phone and turned it back on and it worked just fine. Other times I've had to put it into airplane mode, then turn the wifi back on to get it to download.
If those don't work you could try turning off wifi and forcing it to download OTA. I think I had to do that one time. Hope that helps some.
how would you download apps OTA? I know you can get OTA updates, but idk how you would download apps OTA?
Just use your 3G is what I meant.
oh okay.
EDIT: She says she's turned WiFi off and on before and it still doesn't work. And she can't download apps on 3G either...
OK goto Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, Then click the All button and scroll down till you find Market, select it then Clear Data. There might be something hung up in there causing issues.
This happens to me occasionally. The app Lookout causes it a lot for me. After I uninstalled that app ut still did it. What works for me is to clear the cache and data for the market.
Settings
Applications
Manage applications
Select "all" tab
Locate "market"
Click on it, then click force stop, clear data and clear cache
Restarting the market will take longer than usual, but this always fixes my problem.

Already tried it. Didn't work...
I've posted this over at AndroidForums too, so I got a few potential solutions that didn't work. I tried looking up the problem a couple days ago, and that's what came up (your idea.) It didn't work though...
Well the only things I can think of would be if you're rooted and have CWM is to reboot into recovery and wipe cache partition (not factory reset) and wipe dalvik cache. Not sure if those will do anything for you, but it won't hurt anything to try.
The other thing is to do a factory reset. Of course you'd need to back everything up all your apps and data and copy it off the phone.
Those are the only things I can think of other then waiting and seeing if anybody else has any better ideas.
It's not rooted though, so you can't really backup...
i had it happen to me, and all i did was reboot. fixed!

[Q] Can't download/install any market apps

Today I received my new shiny Asus Transformer, everything works great except the Market itself...
I can't even download any apps, paid or free. When I try to download any apps, it start like trying to download, but there is no progress on notification bar and it just keep like that.
I reset the tablet several times, also, cleaned the cache of the Market and Framework services, shutdown (restart) several times... nothing
Is this happening to anyone? I searched this forum and performed the steps above, but still nothing...
Please, help
Have you look into My App area, you will see, not installed list of apps. I get that as well...I am not sure if it's a bug or intended. Sometimes, it would stay at download forever. I got to go out and go back into the Market and redo it all over.

Yes, sometimes the apps I am trying to download don't even appear there and sometimes it does. When it says "Installing" sometimes, 1 hour can pass and still nothing... no progress on the notification bar.
In fact, I can't install anything from there, not even using the website version, https://market.android.com/
I had/have this same issue I think its a bug in the market app. I've just flashed the new firmware and it seems to work OK now.
My solution was to press back over and over until I exited the market fully, then start a new instance of it. Works on and off.
Ill let you know if the update solves this issue.

Thanks for the info.
I tried that, still no luck I need to know if this is a widespread issue or not.
I have the EVO and tried to download apps and install them now without any problems.
Also, I have discovered that I can't log in into GTalk either, but I can browse without any issues.

Sounds like an odd issue with your account. Try to check settings, accounts an sync .. and see if anything is amiss. If not, then try to create a new gmail account, and use that to login to market/gtalk. See if there is some confusion as to your phone account and your tablet. Do you have settings>Privacy ticked off for google to back up your apps and sync them? Try disabling if so.
Had same issue and went into settings and had to delete my gmail account and then add it again, worked fine after that!
Thanks for the replies.
1. The Backup and Restore settings are turned off.
2. I have created another Google account and removed the original, still the same problem.
3. The EVO is currently off just in case.
After doing some research, I've discovered that Gtalk have something to do with the Market, if Gtalk can sign in, then the market should works for downloads. If not, then there is a problem.
ok... wtf
After adding a new Google account while replacing the original one, the issue still happened.
Then, I decided for a million times, to make another Factory Reset with my original account again... now GTalk logon and the Market download/install apps
I will keep this thread in mind and report if anything weird happens again.
Android Market hates me. I didn't really want to have to create another gmail account but I have tried every other trick posted and still can't get apps to download.
I had this same problem with my Samsung Fascinate. 3G would download fine but I couldn't get WiFi to work until just recently when I updated the radio that came with the OTA Froyo update plus a new custom rom/kernel. I'm not sure which piece all of the sudden made things work but I was certainly happy. What's so frustrating is that I set up a Droid on the same home network with absolutely no problems from day one.
Amazon App store works fine but many of the apps I want aren't available there. Grrr.

This occurred to me after rooting the TF. I was able to correct it by going into applications and force stop and clearing data on both Market and both google framework services. Then try to restart market, if you don't get a error go back to applications and do it again. Once you get the error reboot, when you try market after the reboot it will ask you to accept terms again and then all is was right again with the world.
I have the same problem. How I can do a Factory Reset?
It was working ok but now it gives an error with the server. Eventually it will download the aplication after trying several times but will fail in the instalation. I have deleted and created again my account with no results.
Welcome to my problem. Another member told me the issue lies with our google accounts and how it syncs up with the market.
I have tried the other methods deleting cache / signing in and out etc. to no avail.
Only solution is to factory reset. Sad thing is it has happened to me 3x in the past 5 days.
I only hope for a solution to this soon.
3 times, that is scary.
Something has surprised me when I upgraded my phone to the new Galaxy S 2 from HTC HD 2 running an Android rom. When I introduced the google account it automaticaly pointed me all the aplications that I had installed in the old phone (free or paid) and give me an easy option to install all quickly. They were identified as my aplications, even they were not installed.
Is this funtion present here? It will remember what aplications I had installed in the transformer before or I will need to look for all of them again?
solution to download apps
press on apps on the home screen. then press on market. this will get you started click on sign in at top right of screen. it should automatically do a sign in with your google account. then go from there

[Q] Adroid Market App download paused

I have searched and searched this forum as well as others and google the last 24 hours with no resolution.
As the title states, I am unable to download or update apps from Market. Every time it just pauses. I have tried clearing cache, uninstalling Market update, unmount/remount sd card, reboot after reboot, sign in to Google Talk, back up sd card, wipe card, then restore card, delete Android Secure folder during the previous process, clear google service framework cache, etc, etc, all to no avail
Any other suggestions please, I am at wits end with my one week old phone
HTC Ispire (Completely stock other than apps that have been downloaded)
Thanks in advance.
Gave up and did a factory reset. Problem now gone. Would be nice to know what causes this issue since so many seem to experience it. Google's relative silence is rather infuriated.

[A] Android Market Download Paused
It could be because your phone is set to only make downloads when connected to WiFi. Check that.
I have a friend whose phone had exactly this symptom and this was the cause. Once he disabled that option in the phone settings, it worked.
I think he had a Motorola Defy.
Solution for "Stuck download" !
Previously i tried all basic steps and followed all forums,it seems to be worthless !
Lastly after resetting the device to factory setting, download get start.
Try this one but after following all basic steps.

[Q] Cannot download an app from Android Market!

Preface: Yes, I've read a bunch of the other threads on this forum about this problem, but I've tried all the advice I've seen and this *still* isn't working.
So, I bought the Widgetlocker Lockscreen app from Market, and paid for it on my credit card. In Market, in 'My apps', it lists Widgetlocker Lockscreen, with 'Purchased' next to it. All the other (free) apps I have successfully downloaded and installed are listed there with 'Installed' next to them.
When I touch Widgetlocker Lockscreen, I get the Personalization screen. I press the 'Purchased' button, then the 'OK' button. This should cause the app to be downloaded and installed. When I press it, a message flashes up saying 'Your item will be downloaded.' Quite soon, in the notifications area, I see a progress bar with the text 'WidgetLocker Lockscreen' below, but this progress bar quickly disappears, apparently without the download having taken place. Just before it disappears, I see the text 'Download unsuccessful' for a split second below the progress bar. The app doesn't appear to be installed and is still listed as 'Purchased' rather than 'Installed' in the 'My apps' section.
I can still install other apps OK; I tried installing some free ones and they install fine. I tried clearing Market's cache (the clear data button is greyed out). I tried unmounting/mounting the SD card. I tried rebooting the phone. This problem still occurs.
Anyone have any idea what else I could do? This is still running on the stock firmware; I haven't rooted it or anything.
UPDATE: I retried the download & install a few days later and... it just worked! Glad I didn't perform a factory reset!
The moral seems to be that sometimes, Android Market screws up on Google's end and they forbid you to download certain apps. This is sucky, but it's not going to be fixed by your doing anything on your phone.
Have you tried downloading it on 2G mode, 3G mode, and WiFi mode? Failing all three, try installing it using the Android Market website on your PC.

Like GSM (E/G) and WCDMA (3G/H) and WiFi. Sometimes I find if a download doesn't work on 3G mode, I flip it over to GSM and it works, or WiFi etc. If not, since you just bought it, can you not refund the app and try from scratch?

Before any resets try this;
Go into settings, then manage applications, then find the Market app on the list. Open it, force stop it, then clear cache, then clear data.
Go back to the marketplace. You'll have to accept the terms and conditions again, but see if that helps.

I'm guessing that you've re-started your device? EDIT: just re-read post #1
If advice from @wnp_79 above doesn't work...then
factory reset? - is unfortunately the next step as the Market is linked to your Google account which can only be removed and then re-added via a factory reset.

there may well be but i don't know it...I'm afraid.
How about installing appbrain application and installing that and then try downloading the problem application through that...all though I suspect that it will use the same mechanism....but worth a try.
Google have come back to me and told me to do a factory reset as well. This is infuriating, and I really don't want to do it because of a bug in ONE application - Google Market. It's not like there's widespread filesystem corruption or something, which in my mind would justify a factory reset.
I did some more investigation and installed (successfully! other apps install successfully!) the 'aLogcat' app. This gave me quite a bit of useful debug info when I tried to install Widgetlocker Lockscreen. I have the output saved to my SD card and will paste here when I get home from work, but basically it's very similar to the output listed here:

Seems like I'm not the only one having this problem. That was posted in 2010. Now seriously guys, are we still talking about a factory reset for a somewhat common bug in Android Market that has been known about for quite some time? I want to try and figure out what's going wrong here and FIX it instead. It looks like h ttps://android.clients.google.com/market/download/... is returning a 403 forbidden, which causes the main Android UI to display 'download unsuccessful'. Why is the download being forbidden?
Have you tried clearing market data yet?

For the Market app, the 'clear data' button is greyed out. It's always been greyed out whenever I've looked there.

try what @wnp_79 suggested in his original post, force close the application then you should be able to clear data and cache (at least that what I can do).

I think there's a problem market side so sit tight for now and don't fiddle. I also have a problem with an app (Titanium Back Up) refusing to update.
Try restart your phone. Maybe, that you have new market update waiting for installation.
