anyone else go back on gingerbread from ics? - HTC Sensation

for now.... (which is probably only for a couple days with all the re-flashing I do)
Not anything against ICS in general but just a couple quirky things that bug me.
1. data latency. I've seen screen shots of ics data latency under 100ms but at least in my area I never see latency under 110ms, more like 120-165ms range.
Most people probably don't care about this, but it makes a huge difference when I tether. Also big difference in playing games like zynga poker. With gingerbread roms, I get 40 to 65ms. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a AOSP issue, since with gb miui I"m not seeing the speeds i get with gb sense roms.
2. multi touch. Again, not a big deal for most but play some games on ics roms and the multi touch issue become rather annoying.
3. app compatibility. I use cam scanner religiously to scan receipts into pdf's. The cropping hash marks are borked in ics. I"m sure the dev will bring everything up to date soon.
So, for now (a week or two? heh) I'm back on gingerbread.
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I think it's time for us to move forward with ICS, it's very stable now or even better than GB 2.3.5. Unless some of your apps/games hasn't been upgradevto ICS. I have the same problems when ICS first leak, untill the latest 3.32 base.

I tried going back to GB but the non-GPU accelerated launcher and most apps made me jump back to ICS within the hour.

Is there any way of going back to root and s-off if im s-on and stock with ics?I dont think its possible but i had to ask

On a not on the latency.
On gingerbread if you type in *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information there are options for Ciphering. There were times that the latency on GB would get really bad and toggling ciphering off and on would fix this.
On ICS there is no Ciphering options.
Phil

Do u only need s-off to go back to gb? Haven't touch anything else, cid etc is all default

If you have the stock RUU then yes. I have done it.
Assuming you are now on the updated ICS sw 3.32.401.5. First make a Titanium Backup of all apps and settings and make backups of whatever you may have that you want to save and restore later.
Run the ruu, get back to stock, (if you have an earlier ruu) do all the updates until 1.50.401.1 then you root and all that with revolutionary and su-file.zip, skip custom recovery! (if you flash custom recovery you later on have to flash back stock recovery if you want OTA updates)
Continue OTA update to ICS 3.32.401.5
flash the su-file.zip again, you might have to do it more than once.
You should now be rooted.
-------------------------------
Edit: Sorry if I misunderstood, if you are on ICS and want to go back to GB just run the RUU.

[Q] GB to ICS & BACK to GB....Possible?

I am very much interested in ICS ROM, but one basic question:
If the Radio is not good for my region, esp. the voice clarity thing, and I wish to revert back to the GB ROM with the current RADIO which is on my sensation....would the Nandroid thing work on it???? Or anyway to download the radio which is currently there in my sensation...if yes, How do i find out the Radio for my sensation??
Someone please guide me...
I was flashing ICS ROM yestarday, but things didn't go right. Restored NAND and everything is working, and i still have back my old radio.
I have seen a few reports of going back to a GB ROM over in the InsertCoin thread, so it would seem like reverting back would be an option. It would also depend on whether or not you did the full process of upgrading to an ICS ROM including updating the firmware, because I believe 4.0.1 can be run on the original firmware but 4.0.3 you must update it. According to what I have seen regarding InsertCoin anyways.
Also, I want to say that you can find your radio information if you boot into hboot. (Take battery out, hold VOL down and power). Not 100% sure though, I usually just use it to hop into recovery.
Hope I helped
I flip flopped a couple times now, just make sure u reflash gb firmware if u upgraded for ics, and always use the radio reccomended with the rom. I've had no issues.
Here's my last 4 roms, in case anyone cares.

I am currently running android revolution 5.0.2 without updating my radio or firmware and it is running very well. If I want arhd 6.0.2 then I would need to install new firmware. So far I am keeping my option to return to gingerbread without any hassle.
Flashing a rom or backup doesnt change your radio. You have to go through your bootloader for that. I havent heard any bad news about going back to GB as long as older 10.xx radios are flashed as well. And people have actually gone back succesfully while keeping newer firmware and hboot. And by people i mean me lol. I have a insertcoin GB 3.4.5 backup on tap i use regularly cuz we all know ICS is still learning how to walk on our sensations

Did you flash the radio separately? I am having the problem now as I did a NAND restore to GB, but the radio is still 11.xx...I think the battery is draining more with it. So I want to revert the radio back...but how did you do that? Just flash the radio? I flashed the recent firmware from December in HBOOT and even though it says the custom radio was flashed, the radio still says 11.xx
please let me know

You can flash a radio through hboot screen just like you did with ICS firmware. Im not sure but i dont think the firmware zip from the dec tmo ota had radio included as all radios are rolled up in a thread in the dev section. Theres a radio flashing guide somwhere too

Just wondering if you had problems with the Lock Screen display with the 3.4.5 insertcoin? I tried it, and somehow the lock screen won't display the icons..even when it's turned on from the settings

[Q] Rooted Sensation XE and ICS

Hey all,
Quick Q. I've rooted my Sensation XE, as I was using a Android market changer. I'm not using it any longer, and having a rooted phone doesn't really do anything for me at the moment. With the release of ICS imminent, I would like to get the OTA update.
From what I've read on different forums however, taking an OTA update when rooted isn't a good thing (I can understand why) so I was wondering how I would go back to a stock ROM, but perhaps leaving S-OFF (Will that interfere with an OTA update?) so that if I want to change back to a rooted ROM at a later date; I can.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Berny
Flash the XE RUU (assuming one is available for your phone) and it will leave you S-OFF but shouldn't affect the OTA file

[Q] I can't decide, to flash or not to flash...

I can't decide, and I'd appreciate your advice. I'm kind of noob. I flashed a custom ROM on my mytouch 4g. And I only did it once. Afterwards, I kind of regretted it because the ROM seemed to be more buggy than the stock. Now, I'm waiting to get ICS on my sensation, but I keep looking through the threads at the ICS ROMs that are already out there and they look sweet. I'm not sure if I want to wait for the ICS OTA, or just flash a custom ROM. The only things that are stopping me from rooting my phone are the fact that I am kind of a noob, and I don't want to flash then have the OTA happen the next day, and have it screw with my stuff. Would I be able to go back to stock after the OTA, and then just have tmobile push the OTA? Also, I have a mac... and I'm pretty sure I can't use a mac for flashing new ROMs. I don't mean to be redundant and I hope this doesn't piss anyone off, cause I see a new thread everyday about the new ICS release. Thanks for any feedback.
You can revert back by flashing via RUU, after this you can receive the official OTA when it gets pushed. Now the part about you having a make may cause some problems. I suggest you do some Googling and find a good virtual machine to run Windows with on your Mac.
i would flash
i think you should definitely flash a custom rom. since the sensations release many roms out now have fixed issues of being buggy/ slow and battery draining. im using the newest insertcoin rom and had android hd revolution before that. both are super smooth and fast. as for reverting to a stock rom, i believe all you would have to do is find the update RUU file for the stock rom to go back, this will cause you to lose root, but after you flash a rom you'll probably feel no need to go back. and always make a backup
btw 1st post
I came from the mytouch 4g as well. If you rooted and flashed on that phone you will do just fine on the sensation. The sensation is about 100 times easier to root than the mytouch.

Stop Waiting for TMO to Update to ICS!

If you are waiting for TMO to Update the Sensation to ICS you should stop waiting and update to ARHD. I am a ARHD user and have been applying each update as it comes down and have had no issues at all. Battery life has improved ten fold and Android 4.0.3 is great.
If you are concerned about the warranty issues with rooting, don't be. You are on the XDA forum, so I will assume that you have at least a basic understanding of how to operate your computer. It is a simple process and you would have to be a complete idiot to screw it up.
Take it from me, switch to ARHD and you will be beyond happy!

Yes, and the update from HTC will be Sense also...so no point in waiting? Getting off base install from TMO did wonders for the speed of my Sensation.
I know some people are concerned about losing Wifi calling, but it seems to work in ARHD and Virtuous ROMs just fine (btw Virtuous does NOT have Sense). I had one minor hiccup with it in an older ARHD version, but its stable now.
I was worried about losing my warranty, but if you follow the S-off/on procedure closely, you can revert your phone back to normal in case you need warranty service!

Yummy what do you mean, the official ICS OTA for T-Mobile US has not been released yet?
Would love to update but the procedure seems extremely convoluted with unknown result. I am now trying to find a Youtube guide or something of this sort.
Im on ARHD right now but i would love to flash a stock ICS...problem is everytime i followed one of the guides out there i ran into a problem. I guess its because the guides are not for Sensation 4G.
Would be really nice if someone can put up a guide on how to flash a stock ICS on Sensation 4G tmo.
Question for you all. My phone is stock. If I do one of these ICS ROMs, will that wipe out all the apps I have installed and their progress? Will it make my phone like brand new?
I'm ASSUMING if I wait for the T-Mobile ICS it will keep all of my apps and their info?
Thank you
Jerry
I got tired of waiting.
I tried AHRD first and it's good. I ran it for about a week playing with sebatian's and faux's kernels. I've been running Elegancia for the last week with Bricked kernel I like it more.
I want to try CM9 when it's fully operational for a pure AOSP experience. I also want to try a Sense 4 ROM, but I understand BT isn't fully functional yet and I need that in the car - and I'm reading bad reports on battery life at this point.

Your data will be wiped and you'll be doing setup like a new phone.
Download Titanium Backup first and backup all your apps/data. You're apps should auto install after you flash the ROM - or you can install them manually. Then you can restore your app data from Titanium and your game progress will be back.
I don't know if waiting for T-mo's update will require the same backup or not. But give that firmware will be updated and a complete OS update, I don't see how your app data would be safe then either.

With a stock OTA update, the update is installed via the stock recovery. The stock recovery makes a backup first before flashing the update. After the update is flashed the stock recovery takes and installs all your apps and other data from the backup it made. This way when you flash the OTA the end user does not loose all their settings, apps, and personal ink saved on their device.

Thank you so much for this info.

should i upgrade from 6.5.5 to 6.7.2?

Is there any difference between 6.5.5 and 6.7.2? I don't want to lose anything on my phone. Would it just flash over everything? I think u put a wrong radio before my signals suck. Is it worth the time and risk of losing ie bricking or should I just stay in 6.5.5. I love it btw thanks to this site.
I'm assuming you mean arhd. Go with 6.7.1 first.make a nandroid when jumping that far up.

That will be a good idea I think I do that with titanium
Yeah, you really should because the new kernels and Jelly Bean animations are pretty nice and battery life and signal seem to have been improved as well. Just remember to use 3.33 firmware. The only downside is that 3.33 ROMS seem to be slightly more prone to rebooting every now and then but other than that, it's worth the upgrade.
Cool. Starting my research now. I assume if I make a backup with titanium I could always go back. Do you know if my app and other data will stay?
Update. I already have 4ext from 6 months ago installed. I was going to nandroid, backup apps and sms. Then flash either.3.33 universal or the one linked for t-mobile. Then flash the arhd 1.2.2 t-mobile rom. I hope I'm not missing anything. Maybe I can skip superwipe?

Hi,
Superwipe is essential when making such a jump in versions.
