[Q] GB to ICS & BACK to GB....Possible? - HTC Sensation

I am very much interested in ICS ROM, but one basic question:
If the Radio is not good for my region, esp. the voice clarity thing, and I wish to revert back to the GB ROM with the current RADIO which is on my sensation....would the Nandroid thing work on it???? Or anyway to download the radio which is currently there in my sensation...if yes, How do i find out the Radio for my sensation??
Someone please guide me...

I was flashing ICS ROM yestarday, but things didn't go right. Restored NAND and everything is working, and i still have back my old radio.

I have seen a few reports of going back to a GB ROM over in the InsertCoin thread, so it would seem like reverting back would be an option. It would also depend on whether or not you did the full process of upgrading to an ICS ROM including updating the firmware, because I believe 4.0.1 can be run on the original firmware but 4.0.3 you must update it. According to what I have seen regarding InsertCoin anyways.
Also, I want to say that you can find your radio information if you boot into hboot. (Take battery out, hold VOL down and power). Not 100% sure though, I usually just use it to hop into recovery.
Hope I helped

I flip flopped a couple times now, just make sure u reflash gb firmware if u upgraded for ics, and always use the radio reccomended with the rom. I've had no issues.
Here's my last 4 roms, in case anyone cares.
Cm7->tripnice->cm7->virtuous Inquisition

I am currently running android revolution 5.0.2 without updating my radio or firmware and it is running very well. If I want arhd 6.0.2 then I would need to install new firmware. So far I am keeping my option to return to gingerbread without any hassle.

Flashing a rom or backup doesnt change your radio. You have to go through your bootloader for that. I havent heard any bad news about going back to GB as long as older 10.xx radios are flashed as well. And people have actually gone back succesfully while keeping newer firmware and hboot. And by people i mean me lol. I have a insertcoin GB 3.4.5 backup on tap i use regularly cuz we all know ICS is still learning how to walk on our sensations

Did you flash the radio separately? I am having the problem now as I did a NAND restore to GB, but the radio is still 11.xx...I think the battery is draining more with it. So I want to revert the radio back...but how did you do that? Just flash the radio? I flashed the recent firmware from December in HBOOT and even though it says the custom radio was flashed, the radio still says 11.xx
please let me know

You can flash a radio through hboot screen just like you did with ICS firmware. Im not sure but i dont think the firmware zip from the dec tmo ota had radio included as all radios are rolled up in a thread in the dev section. Theres a radio flashing guide somwhere too

Just wondering if you had problems with the Lock Screen display with the 3.4.5 insertcoin? I tried it, and somehow the lock screen won't display the icons..even when it's turned on from the settings

If your having slow data speeds on AOSP Builds...

If anyone is having slow data speeds for the AOSP builds, CM7, or the like, I flashed the recommended radio and BAM my speeds are back to 4.5 down and 1.5 up. This might be common knowledge and if so just delete the thread, but I was having consistently good data speeds on every sense rom even without the recommended radio, and for some reason when I flashed adamholden's ROM with the stock radio was getting as low as .2 down and .8 up, and after a helpful suggestion to flash the radio through HBOOT (just putting the PD98IMG file on my sd and booting into the bootloader and letting it do its thing) which was way easier in my opinion than all the eng s-off stuff, not to mention safer, my speeds are back up to the normal 4.5 down and 1.5 up. Hope this helps, because I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out all this new radio stuff (came from the captivate).

I see in your sig you've got TPGB's AOSP ROM, so you must be referring to radio version 26.06.06.30. This is the new stock radio that HTC pushed out a couple of weeks ago to the stock Inspires. This has been a great radio for me as well.

Yes. In my market, most custom ROMs run slow without the APN fix.
I think this ROM already has the fix implemented (I'm back on CM7).

Random reboot nomatter what i do ??

Hi sensation forum...
I am new to sensation, but not new to android or HTC, as i have 4 different phones with custom firmware on them...
But the sensation give me a lot of problems for some reason...
I have tried ARHD 5.0.2 and Insert Coin 4.0.4, i have also tried Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 and HyperSensation CM7.1 v1.2.
The last one is not even ICS based...
All of them give me random reboot cycles...
I have tried 3 different radios also...
Nothing have helped me so far...
I still have a lot of random reboots...
(about every 2-10 min)
When i flash the firmware i use ARHD´s super delete script, but to be shure, i also format everything from within Recovery...
What more can i do here ??
Pleace,if your phone is stable, can you tell me exactly what rom/radio/kernal/ril you use...
My phone was rock stable with factory firmware....
Hey,
When installing roms on the sensation, make sure you follow the guides in the particular thread. It is also important to match recommended radios and rils that go with the specific rom. Make sure you are S-off and cid 11111111. When you are switching roms, you should only have to run the superwipe script, it will set all the partitions for you so that you can flash the rom you choose. Also, before you install ICS, it is recommended that you superwipe BEFORE installing the actual rom to prevent unwanted isssues. Before you do anything else, give me a rundown on what you are currently running.

I have exactly this issue.
I installed ICS Revolution. I had successfully got S-OFF, Installed ClockWork Recovery (updated to latest version), permanently Rooted & obtained SuperCID. I updated radio as recommnded by mike1986 in the ICS post, and wiped the phone with Revolution Super_wipe_Sensation first.
It seemed to run fine apart from Doplhin HD which refused to run properly (so switched to Opera Mobile). However I started to get random reboots.
After a bit I thought to try Insert Coin ICS instead.
I have noticed no real difference in performance and have the identical issue with Dophin HD (back to Opera mobile again).
However I also still have the identical random rebooting issue with this ROM. What else can I do?

I did that with Revolution as well as with Insert Coin this time around. Running the latest version
I'm having the same issue. Did a text book install of AHRD. Everything went super smoothly, but getting these reboots. I have tried to swipe everything, have the latest radio and recommended fw and keep getting these crashes. Not only it's driving me nuts but it makes the phone unuseable... I can't believe we're just 2 to have these problems... Isn't there some king of log we can pull to see what's causing the crash ?

I suspect it has to do with processor speed that's been tweaked in these roms, but can't seem to find a way to tune it back to stock on the ICS rom...
sorry for the late reply, been busy with holiday stuff.. anyhow, make sure you are NOT installing any mods that are not compatible with the current ICS build. I have had no problems switching between ARHD 3.6.10 and ICS 5.0.2. As long as you have s-off and CID 1111111, you should be good to go. When I changed up from 3.6.10 to ICS 5.0.2, I turned off my phone, went into bootloader, selected the option for recovery, then flashed the superwipe script. After it finished flashing that, it rebooted back into recovery. Following that, I went to install from zip, flashed the updated RUU, cleared cache and dalvik, then flashed ICS 5.0.1 and the 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 update. Everything installed smooth from there.

That's exactly what I did. Can't find anything different between your story and what's I did, up to when I switched to Insert Coin
I also don't think it's related to CPU speed. My phone is the XE model which ran at 1.5 Ghz on stock ROM and only did about 3 random reboots in 3 months; (now it's every couple of hours).

I'm still getting the reboot on the nand backup (OrangeFR), this sucks big time. Now I'm thinking it may be due to the fw I had to install to use AHRD (PG58IMG) and the new radio. This is where I'm lost. How can I return everything to standard ? If I understand well the ROM doesn't contain those files, they are separate ?
Was thinking that my random reboots were radio or firmware related.
Strange thing is mine have stopped, and all I did was reinstall revolution ICS 5.0.1 then upgrade to 5.0.2. Didn't even wipe first. So even my apps & settings all of which I had installed & configured since I had installed Insert Coin ICS, are all still there. Haven't had a reboot since.

I switched back to ARHD 3.6.9, did a factory reset+wipe, flashed radio 10.59 and all is fine, I'm somehow reluctant to try again...
I found a solution that worked for me... At last...
I am REALLY sorry that i didn´t answer here before, but i have been really bussy, and actually forgot all about it a few days....
NOW, i also thought that i had some CPU spped issue with the roms, becource i can actually get the same kind of reboot problems on my DHD when i run it over 1500 Mhz...
So i thought that i would lock my sensation to max 900 mhz, and then see what happens... NO change... Still random reboot... Strange...
I then installed a Android 2.3 rom, just to get my phone running again... STILL random reboots...
hmmm....
Now i was confused...
At last i tried to flash a different radio one more time...
I found a radio in some other sensation thread... Flashed it and now my phone works stable...
At least with Virtuos Inquisition 1.3.0... (Proberbly the 1.4.0 will also work, but i have not tried it yet...)
The Radio i had the problems with is the one from mike´s thread...
I actually don´t know why, as i have allways had great success with his roms and his releases on my DHD...
The Radio i use now is 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035-02_2...
But sorry, i can´t remember from what thread...
Ok, this is what i have discovered on this reboot issue...
I hope it make some sense, and that this perhaps can help other with the same problems...
Try turning your phone to recovery.Backup if you havent already....Wipe Data/Factory reset then turn the phone off....
Remove the back cover and the SDCARD.Turn the phone back on and see if it runs ok without the SDCARD, if it does reformat the sd using 4ext recovery and it will also align it.
I spoke too soon.
My phone didn't reboot for a day after I switched back to Revolution ICS 5.0.2 for about a day, then today it began doing random reboots every few minutes. I had not changed any software, just the area (which might have changed signal and frequency the cell tower uses). So I figured it was time to change firmware and radio.
I had previously (prior to installing custom ICS ROM) flashed the radio to 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 as recommended by Mike1986 in the Revolution HD ICS thread, and had HBoot 1.7.1111 on my device.
I then downloaded the firmware he posted on his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
This has put the phone back to HBOOT 1.20.0000 and radio 11.15.3504.16_M
Now it's working well and no reboots yet.
Here's hoping.. time will tell.
No matter what radio or Rom combo I get random ass reboots
Super annoying. I did notice the battery goes from 100% to 10% during this reboot
I have calibrated battey. Wiped stats. I'm lost.
I have even tried a new battery. Wtf. Any ideas?
i cant even flash stock ruu I get a 171 error!!!!
Im gonna throw this phone at the f-ing wall in a min
if you flashed newest radio 11...x.x..., you have to have newest hboot also (1.20.. , i guess). otherwise, you will get random reboot. I had this issue before, and i just flashed order radio( i don't want to update hboot version). problem is solved

Battery life after firmware upgrade?

Hi, would appreciate some input as I'm pretty new with this.
I recently tried the ics Rom but didn't like it, so I reverted back to my 2.3.4 stock but now it seems the battery is running down very quickly. Could this b related to the firmware flashed for the ics?
I noticed hboot is now 1.23 and radio is 11.19.....even I did a wipe and restore the Nand I created b4 the firmware upgrade. So I guess restoring NAND doesn't include the firmware?
So I m wondering how would I go.about goin back to where it was b4...is the battery affected by the firmware?
Thx
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Generally when you flash any new ROM you should give it 2 full charge cycles before evaluating the battery usage. It has something to do with the "battery stats" needing to recalibrate.
However, I guess it could have something to do with flashing the new firmware. I would recommend though giving it some time and seeing if it levels out in a day or two. If it doesn't, then you know there may be some other issue.
Battery drain is one of those tricky subjects, cause any amount of apps can make a huge difference as well. There is a lot of general variance...
Anyways.
Hope I helped
It can also be attributed to GB roms having certain RIL files pertaining to 10.x radios. The ICS radio is 11.x, and no GB roms have RIL files for 11.x radios. That being said - if RIL files don't match the radio in question, battery life and performance can be bad.
I do believe you can keep the hboot 1.23 but you need to down grade that radio back to 10.56 or 10.59. The RIL file should be in ur nandroid backup for the older radio already so in theory that + 2 battery cycles and you should be good again. Theres a radio thread over in the development section. Install old radio and like mommy used to say 'dont forget to wipe' before a fresh restore. G'luck

Thx for the input. I do think it's related to the firmware update I flashed when trying to do the ICS. I've done a few cycles and the battery is still bad. I flashed the older firmware file (the one from the extracted dec tmous update), but it didn't change radio back and HBOOT is still 1.23. Guess I can try to just flash the radio.
If I run the RUU file, it will reset everything is that right? I'll lose root too? How about S-off and CW? And after installing RUU, can I do OTA update given the RUU file available is a lower software version.
Appreciate the clarification
Theres a radio flashing guide somewhere where you can download just the radio and flash it without losing root or rom data if done right. The firmare you flashed was taken out of the ICS RUUs just like the radios are taken out for flashing purposes. And so are flashed through the bootloader just like you did with firmware.
That old dec tmo firmware we had flashed didnt include a radio i think the packager left it out. All i think you did was redo the nand partitions back to the last GB setup so no harm there.
An RUU is a full package install. Partitions, hboot, recovery, radio, rom, the works. Everything we are talkin about here are just pieces of an RUU. So root and s-off should still be there unless u flash a whole RUU.
baatery
the first time I've flashed it was horrible, run out after not much usage in one day.
flashed oneics, and now hd 6.0.2 and it is looking good...

Of course the problem is still there, you have restored everything. Try flashing another ROM, updating your firmware, and maybe updating your battery to a better one.
None of the thing you listed seems strange to me. I also had this problem, until I bought an Anker battery.
I suggest you also flash bricked kernel, it's the best in terms of battery

No why do you want to flash version 1.2.1?
change your CID to superCID and flash whatever ROM you want. Yes you should update your firmware version to 3.33 universal. You can find it HERE
The latest version of ARHD is 6.7.2 HERE
I suggest you try a sensless ROM, they gave me better battery life. You could try HyperNonSense HERE
Good luck!
You can come back to your stock ROM, but you'll not want to. Custom ROMs are much better, they have a lot of extra features. Just find the custom ROM that suits you

any stock rom without battery problem and all??? suggest me plzz..
Yes you can change your firmware back If you wish. Remember for ANY ics Rom to run the required firmware is 3.32 or 3.33. That's very important. I'm running 3.33 and can use any ics Rom I wish to use . But it won't be a problem if you want to revert back to 3.32. It also will run ics. I hope this helps and clears it up a bit for you. So if your running 3.32 or 3.33 with ics you will be fine. And yes after upgrade to 3.33 if you wish you can easily go back to 3.32. As for a Rom ,try out a few and see which one you like best , its a personal decision. Best wishes

actually i want to install android revoltion hd 1.2.2 tmous rom than should i upgrade my firmware to 3.32 to 3.33??
and radio also??
i want to install this rom directly in my stock firmware version 3.32 and stock radio version.
suggest me? ?
Hi there, you can go ahead and upgrade to 3.33 to be on newest firmware if you like.you must be on either 3.32 or 3.33 its a necessity but if you want the newest firmware then upgrade to3.33. I upgraded and didn't have to change my radio or ril. Unless you are having radio issues after 3.33 upgrade you can use the same radio and ril. I did without problems. To upgrade firmware place the pg58img file on sd card, boot into bootloader by pulling battery, put battery back in then the device will detect the update press power for yes. Once it updates DELETE the
Pg58img file or it will continue to update over and over in bootloader. So don't forget that step. You will be good to go after that. Hope this helps.
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, mugen battery. please press thanks if I helped in anyway.

[Q] When Flashing AOSP/AOKP/CM/PA Roms

Hey, sorry for such a noob question, I do lots of reading on here and tried to post within a certain rom, C-Rom Kit-Kat 4.4.2 5/13/14, and it won't allow me since I have never posted anything on XDA. I have the Verizon HTC ONE M8 and it is bootloader unlocked, s-off, and on the stock rom with build number 1.56, with lots of customization but I found a new rom I wanted to try. It is an AOSP rom like mentioned above but I never seemed to find what build number it is on? I know with a SENSE rom you have to be careful of what build number your phone is, whether it is 1.54 before the update or 1.56 after the update.
My question is, when flashing an AOSP/AOKP/CM rom through TWRP, does the build number matter? In all the AOSP roms I never haven't been able to find where the OP states which it is, making me wonder if I need to worry about it or not? I want to flash away from the stock rom but only to an AOSP type rom.. I want to be careful because since we don't have a removable battery, I am worried I will be stuck in bootloop and I am not sure how to get out of it without a battery pull.. (I know holding power and volume up will restart the phone but how would you get back into recovery to restore a backup?)
Also while I am at my first post, do you recommend TWRP, CWM, or Philz touch recovery? I would like to stick to one recovery throughout the tenure of the rooted ONE M8, makes keeping backups
Thanks for the help and I greatly appreciate it! And I apologize again for such a noob question..

Correct me if im wrong, but the sense build is just telling what that ROM is based on. Once your S-OFF, you can flash them as you please. I know the bootloader version was what would cause bricks in the past (flashing a 4.2.2 rom in a 4.3 bootloader) but i havent seen anything like that for the M8 yet.
Vol DOwn and power will get you to hboot which will let you get to recovery. I use CWM but theyre all comparable, just personal preference.

Thanks for the reply! I can't wait to flash this new AOSP rom so I can remove all the bloatware put on by Verizon and Sense.. Just want to vierfy, so if the build number no longer matters since I am s-off, you're saying I can flash the ARHD rom on my phone even though it states the build number 1.54 and I have 1.56? Because I would also love to have a stock sense rom with lots of optimizations and tweaks for performance with less bloatware.
Thanks again

I just read that if you have the newest 1.55.6.. firmware and baseband and try to flash roms with the older baseband (1.54) then you might run into problems with losing root and and other issues..
Can someone please verify this? Currently on stock rom, rooted, s off, bootloader unlocked, with baseband 1.55.6.. Looking into flashing either AOSP rom or Sense rom but does it matter if its based on 1.54 or the newest 1.56?
Thanks, the help is greatly appreciated

you're just gonna end up with whatever baseband you flash as the latest baseband. where are you seeing people lose root bc of flashing a different baseband?

It was in a different thread, can't recall which.. I have been doing way too much reading I think it was in one last few pages of the venom rom thread.. I'll just wait for Venom and Skyfall to update their baseband to the latest 1.56 build. No worries. Thanks.
Updated to the latest VZW firmware, and have had no issues using the multi-variant roms, which use the non-Verizon versions. My radio base still reflects the updated version (0321). On Viper right now with no issues, waiting for AOKP. Been using 2.7.0.2 TWRP with no problems. If you have a concern about flashing any ROM (and/or gapps if you are trying an AOSP ROM), just make sure you make a backup in recovery before anything else, and if the new stuff doesn't work well or borks your device, just learn how to get back into recovery and restore your backup. Read first, try second.

Okay thanks for the help. I always make sure to read first and create a backup, I've made the mistake once and took a long process to get it solved and won't let that happen again that's for sure! Thanks for the response, I just flashed Skyfall 2.5 and it is amazing!
