I got a replacement razr maxx for the one I broke and am setting it back-up.
In my previous Maxx, I created shortcuts to different actions wtihin various apps (e.g., open directly to e-mail compose or text compose, the camcorder, etc).
I recall adding a shortcut where each app was listed and then underneath it a list of different actions that can be chosen. I don't believe I had any special app installed to enable this. I can't figure out how I did this. I am using go launcher ex if it matters.
Any pointers?
Thanks

I just rooted my phone and installed Bionix OS-- overall an amazing improvement. The only fly in the ointment is that I used to have on my homescreen a handy little app that was titled "Starred" -- it was a contacts list that only included my starred contacts. Since I have accumulated a lot of contacts, it was very handy to be able to just search through my primary (starred) contacts. After upgrading my phone, I cannot find this little app. I think I have looked everywhere. A little weirder -- I had done a backup of my apps with Titanium Backup before installing Bionix, but this one doesn't seem to be there (in my uninstalled apps) either (unless, of course, it's called something I don't recognize). Any idea how/where I can find/restore this handy little app?
Never mind. One of the many nice people over at the Team Whiskey forum told me the simple, seemingly somewhat obvious answer -- what I was looking for is a "folder" not an "app". All I had to do is press on the home page until the "Add to home screen" window opened, select "folders", then select "Starred Contacts" (scrolling to the bottom of the list). Voila'!
Those of you coming from WinMo 6.5 might remember the incredibly useful little program called "KeepMyRingtones"; it backed up and restored individual contact's ringtones so you didn't have to manually add them after you flashed a new ROM.
I can't find a similar Android app. Am I just being dense here, or is that something that's truly missing?
MS has still chosen not to store ringtones in Outlook; you'd think Google would support it in Gmail, or at least provide an option to store shortcuts to restore them. On that subject, am I the only one who feel that the Gmail contact manager is... ummm... primitive?
Hello,
I've tried searching for similar topics closely related to my problem with no success.
Basically what is occurring is when I mark a contact as a Favorite (either by the star on the contact page, or holding down and selecting 'Add to Favorites' from the contact window.) it's not saving it. The moment I press 'back' and view the contact again the favorite star is grey again and it didn't save. I've tried several different ways to try to get it to work and it just won't stick. I've even used that popup menu item for contacts called, 'Add to Favorites'. The funny part is that this works perfectly fine on my sisters android.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Prevail with stock Froyo 2.2. I'm also using this contacts on the default Google Gmail Contacts list. I haven't really done anything special to the phone other then install a few apps here and there. All of a sudden my favorites are just not saving anywhere.
Here is the weirdest part, I installed 'Go Contacts' app on the market and used their built in Favorites. I added a favorite there and it worked! When I checked the contact on the regular contacts app with Froyo the Star is gold and its saved. Now that's extremely odd. The Go Contacts app did what the regular stock Contacts couldn't.
That's basically it. I don't know what else to do as I've tried all sorts of things. I'm hoping it's something really simple that can be fixed.
Any help would be great
Update: Well I've tried some restoration options and file edits and it still doesn't seem to work. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the stock contact app itself that is not working properly.
I've had the same issue intermittently for no apparent reason, on more than one ROM. Can't figure it out. Running Gummycharged on my Droid Charge.
Hey all, I once downloaded an app that alllows me to set all my contacts without pictures to have a Gmall Like letter attached to them. It worked great but now I need to re-run and dont seem to have the app anymore, nor do i recall the name. The letters looked similar to the ones here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493035
However it would go through and automatically update all of my contacts
If anyone can link me to the app (I believe the thread was on xda) I would appreciate
Thanks
I use an app called Micopi, it generates a gmail like letter with a patterned background
How do I change the default Contacts app on Pixel 4a running Android 11??? Aftering searching for the answer, I can tell you:
1. It is not under Apps & Notifications / Default Apps. (Yes, some apps are listed, but Contacts is not listed.)
2. It is not by Apps / Contacts / Open by default. (It says, "No defaults set")
3. I don't want to run a different launcher. I just want to use a different Contacts app.
It seems like a simple thing, I just can not figure it out.
Any help would be appreciated...
Try installing a new contacts app, then when you try an operation that normally would invoke the contacts app, it should pop up a dialog to select which contacts app should be the default (the built in one or the new one you installed).
Also, it might say "no default app" if there is only one contacts app installed on the device (so there is nothing to choose between), so trying the above will test that theory.

Sorry, should have included that info. Phone has both standard Contacts and a second app "Smart Contacts".

Maybe I figured it out. Loaded third contact app and got the choice for default! Apparently Smart Contacts does not register as a Contacts app... Thanks for the help.
Then certain apps, like the built-in phone app might be hard-coded to use the built-in contacts app for certain functions (but not all contact functions), just like the built-in camera app is hard-coded to use the built-in photos app to preview just taken pictures.
But for things like clicking on a phone number in an email should display a "Select Contact app" if you have two contact apps installed (and you have not selected a default contacts app after installing the second contacts app)

So when that "select contact app" dialog box finally did appear (after you installed the third app), are you saying that "Smart Contacts" wasn't in that list?
yup. When I loaded "Simpler Contacts" app and triggered the contacts, I got a choice between "Contacts" (Google's installed app) and Simpler. Smart Contacts did not appear in the list. (I know Smart Contacts was functional. It would load my contacts when opened.)
I really appreciate the help with this...
