[Q] Lost Starred Contacts App - Android Apps and Games

I just rooted my phone and installed Bionix OS-- overall an amazing improvement. The only fly in the ointment is that I used to have on my homescreen a handy little app that was titled "Starred" -- it was a contacts list that only included my starred contacts. Since I have accumulated a lot of contacts, it was very handy to be able to just search through my primary (starred) contacts. After upgrading my phone, I cannot find this little app. I think I have looked everywhere. A little weirder -- I had done a backup of my apps with Titanium Backup before installing Bionix, but this one doesn't seem to be there (in my uninstalled apps) either (unless, of course, it's called something I don't recognize). Any idea how/where I can find/restore this handy little app?

Never mind. One of the many nice people over at the Team Whiskey forum told me the simple, seemingly somewhat obvious answer -- what I was looking for is a "folder" not an "app". All I had to do is press on the home page until the "Add to home screen" window opened, select "folders", then select "Starred Contacts" (scrolling to the bottom of the list). Voila'!

Recommendations on contact manager

I find the default contact manager software a bit clumsy on the D2.
Tried searching the forum but didn't see anyone talk about this.
THe main thing I don't like about the default one is that I cannot operate on muitple contacts at the same time (e.g. delete). I have to select one contact at a time and go to menu and delete the contact ... very time consuming if I need to delete several contacts.
Any idea to do this smarter or a better contact manager?
Actually if you go to the Contact screen and press Menu->Delete Contacts, it'll let you select multiple contacts for deleting
IMHO the best of all contact managers "inesoft address book. I use it for some years and used. Most importantly - it can pose a few mobile, home, etc. phones for one contact, this does not allow any of the existing of contacts managers.

Stock Contacts "Add New Contact" wont sync to selected group

Hi there,
After finally getting the Android Stock Contacts app on my Desire, I'm finally able to use the "Sync Group" option to only show one group (let's call it "cormie) in the phone book. This is all fine, I have ticked off all other groups and only "cormie" is ticked on. It displays the "cormie" contacts and the contacts on the SIM (I can delete them off it later I guess) but the main objective is to just use the "cormie" contacts and nothing else.
However, when I go to add a new contact and save it, when I sync it to Gmail, the new entry doesn't show up in "cormie" but only in "all contacts" and once the contact is saved on the phone, it doesn't appear in the phone book because I'm only showing "cormie" contacts and it's not there To see the entry I have to go back in and to show all contacts, then I see it.
This puts a great hindrance on the purpose of the Sync Group option. The guy in post 10 here seems to have got it going, but as you can see in my reply, post 11, it's not saving to the desired group for me!
I'd really appreciate if anyone has a solution for this and could explain how to get it working properly. Or is there an alternative contacts program that will do it? Also, if anyone knows how to not display SIM contacts in the phonebook please share too
Any feedback appreciated at all!
Brilliant! I think I got a workaround
When I first started using the phone after rooting it, I selected "contacts" to be the default for all the options and it actually turns out that the Sense "people" app allows you to save a contact to a group even though it doesn't allow you to "sync groups", choosing which groups you want to sync only, so I needed to get the "people" app to be the default for adding contacts.
What I had to do was go to the main menu > settings > applications > manage applications > scroll down to contacts > and press "clear defaults"
This clears "contacts" as being the default for all the phonebook related actions. If you go back to the home screen and click "phone" you can set "contacts" as the default for this, but then when you go to add a new contact in contacts, it will ask what app you want to add a contact with, click set as default and click the "people" app. Now all "add to contact" actions will be carried out using "people" app, here you can select the group you wish to save it to and then it will show up perfectly in the "contacts" "contacts" menu and will be synched correctly to the chosen group on Gmail!
I think, after 18 days of buying it, I'm finally ready to put my normal sim card in the phone and start using it as a phone! Finally!
I realize this is WAY later than the original post, but have any of you found a solution to not being able to add a new contact to the group you want to add it to? I'm using an HTC Hero (cdma) that I Froyoed with aospmod 2.2.1, so I cannot use the htc "people" app - at least I read that. Sorting by groups is mucho importante to me and I find the default contacts app built into aospmod lacking in this area.
Thanks if you even reply to this!

Contacts-Favorites.. FU HTC?

So i Synced up and linked all my google and facebook contacts to my phone..
Then i started playing around with the stock widgets, one being that Favorites bar thats there when you start the phone for the first time. Just for ****s and grins i loaded the first contact with a picture.
Now i want to get rid of it. But it seems the kid with the water wings and helmet was assigned to this part of the build, its ****ing impossible to get the favorite to go away. I went to edit contact, went to groups, and there it listed two copies of the same name, both for google, both groups set for favorites. I unchecked favorites in both and it said None in groups for both.
Lo and behold, that contact is still a ****ing favorite. Picture and all, no way to get them out. I go to contacts, go to groups, and wow, only 1 assigned to any groups, favorites, whose in favorites? the contact i just removed from favorites. No other way to turn favorites off anywhere else, i though ill try delete.
It deleted that contact from my facebook page, and also deleted that contact from my google account, and also deleted the contact from my contacts, when i go to groups, that contact is still there as a ****ing favorite! and that is THE ONLY place i can see the contact.
Way to go HTC,, keep on inbreeding your employees.
I wish I could better help you with the problem, this sounds very familiar. I'm almost certain I had the same issue a while back, no idea what rom I was using though. I'm just chiming in to verify that I did encounter this too.
Haven't seen it since it first happened, but this was so many flashes ago I couldn't give you any more details on the specifics behind it.

clear internet explorer history cache?

Is there a way to totally clear the browsing history in IE? I delete everything with the one touch button yet when I type in the browser and start with a single letter it will show the rest of the websites I visited as a drop down list no matter how many times I delete.
is there a registry hack maybe or some other way?
you probably tried this? tap the three dots on the bottom right menu, go into settings, tap delete history.
that gets rid of all browsing history including recent sites I went to. it only populates generic (most searched) items when I start typing letters.
I did many times and the sites I visited are still there, I don't want to have to reset the phone again
Sent from my HD7 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
sorry, that is odd and would annoy me as well. it works fine here.
good luck
My only thought on this is it must be an oft-visited site. The ones I hit that were never on the drop-down don't show after I do the clear cache described int this thread.
Yea the browsing history was still there no matter how many times I deleted, I don't like that about internet explorer, I reset the phone

Delete IE History on WP7
I solved this issue on my Samsung Focus by closing out all the tabs in IE and then deleting your history.
When you open IE on your WP7, there are three icons at the bottom of the screen- Add, Favorites, and Tabs. If you have multiple tabs open then a number will be displayed inside the Tabs icon indicating how many tabs are currently open on your browser. Click the Tabs icon and a list will pop up showing you all the tabs that are open. There you have the option to close out the tabs by pressing the X. I'm not sure if it's necessary, but then you can go ahead and delete your history as well. I also had "Allow cookies on my phone" and "Let Bing suggest sites as I type" unchecked, although I'm not entirely sure that mattered.
Sounds like it's already too late since you reset your phone, but hope this helps for the future!

[Q] Favorite Contact not saving (Contact Favorite Star)

Hello,
I've tried searching for similar topics closely related to my problem with no success.
Basically what is occurring is when I mark a contact as a Favorite (either by the star on the contact page, or holding down and selecting 'Add to Favorites' from the contact window.) it's not saving it. The moment I press 'back' and view the contact again the favorite star is grey again and it didn't save. I've tried several different ways to try to get it to work and it just won't stick. I've even used that popup menu item for contacts called, 'Add to Favorites'. The funny part is that this works perfectly fine on my sisters android.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Prevail with stock Froyo 2.2. I'm also using this contacts on the default Google Gmail Contacts list. I haven't really done anything special to the phone other then install a few apps here and there. All of a sudden my favorites are just not saving anywhere.
Here is the weirdest part, I installed 'Go Contacts' app on the market and used their built in Favorites. I added a favorite there and it worked! When I checked the contact on the regular contacts app with Froyo the Star is gold and its saved. Now that's extremely odd. The Go Contacts app did what the regular stock Contacts couldn't.
That's basically it. I don't know what else to do as I've tried all sorts of things. I'm hoping it's something really simple that can be fixed.
Any help would be great
Update: Well I've tried some restoration options and file edits and it still doesn't seem to work. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the stock contact app itself that is not working properly.
I've had the same issue intermittently for no apparent reason, on more than one ROM. Can't figure it out. Running Gummycharged on my Droid Charge.
