[Q] A Phone? which to get - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I am in the process of helping my friend purchase an android phone. I'm not the best in decision making and since he is on At&t and I am on Verizon there is not a whole lot I can help him with... So I'm asking for recommendations on the best phone out there on At&t at a price no higher than $50 (refurbished is okay) This will be his first android phone and id love to get him to join the community but his concern is that he doesn't want the phone to be obsolete after a year (because he is signing a 2 year agreement) and doesn't at the moment want to flash any custom ROMs, but i may be able to change that.
Thanks in advance!

He could try to go with the Galaxy Nexus or wait a bit for the GS III. Not sure about the prices though.

ZTE Blade or HTC Desire

I would probably wait for the HTC one X or maybe the Galaxy S3 sort of next generation smartphones

What phone should I get?

I'm currently using Samsung Galaxy Mini GTS5570
I flash lots of custom roms to my device, even with the custom roms on, it still lags me out.
So I decided to make a move and change my device hoping it would not be as bad as this one.
Any suggestions what budget android phone with a not-so-bad processor or should I say speed??
Please do reply thanks
I find Galaxy S+ a budget Android phone with not bad speed and some serious customization capabilities. If you have more funds I'd go for SII as it has dual core processor and full cyanogenmod released.
Samsung galaxy s blaze 4g, if your on T-Mobile. I was looking for a budget phone, and this is what I got, doesn't feel like a budget phone though lol. Well its upper mid range phone

Phones with the most XDA devs

Hey all,
I was just wondering which phones are most popular here at XDA in terms of developer contribution and such. I'm looking to buy a phone, but a little low on money, and that running a nice custom ROM will compensate for the potentially ageing hardware.
I know that the HD2 is definitely one of the most popular phones here, but what other phone have huge dev support?
Thanks,
Dillon
Nexus, S2 & S3

Anything from Motorola? I can get a moto atrix for cheap but apparently there's no forseeable way to unlock the boot loader?

Oh. Guess I've been reading old news then aha. I see that there's some recent development going on, but would you say that its a popular phone amongst xda devs?

Samsung Galaxy S3, big smartphone with big development. If you want other more cheaper, S2 is very good too

The original Atrix 4G is rather smallish, but not sure about the bootloader options. I do know that the Atrix 2 DOES have a locked bootloader, is slightly larger than the OG, and has some good development regardless of its locked down BL. I personally would NOT recommend ANY Motorola devices, they lock them down and updates are not coming quickly. The A2 devs are working on cracking the BL with a possible brute force script to hit the CDT table in order to flash a custom CDT to bypass key signature checks. But, it is uncertain what RSA encryption is being used- either 512 or 1024 bit cyphered. I got the SGS3 for the performance and dev support...

Gt-i9000 has 84 pages of full android development. I own a Gt- i9001 which is stronger than i9000 and it has only 18 pages!!! I9001 is one of the most popular android devices. Dont forget that it used to be the best phone from 2010 until the first dualcore devices.
However both of these devices if the brick its not very dificult to unbring such as other devices as galaxy note....

[Q] My first smartphone is getting old.

Hi boys, and girls
As my 2 year contract on my carrier, is getting to the finish line, i want to get something new. (I will keep my small litle muscle phone O1 as a second phone )
At the first i wanted the galaxy nexus, because of the great software support, and the developement, in our xda forum.
Then suddenly i saw the new Optimus 4x, but, there is one but. There is no developement in here, because of locked bootloader
I really don`t know what to take. Thought about the Xperia S, but nope.
The phones what i need to choose from , are - 1. Galaxy nexus
2. Optimus 4x
Maybe Acro S ?
Maybe some other suggestions?
Maybe the new LG Nexus? It'll be $399 on Google Store unsubsidized according to rumors.

Yeah, but it will not be available in my country for a while.
seeing how often google release OS.
I will stick to nexus device for fastest OS update
I love my Google experience device motorola xoom running AOSP jelly bean
Yeah. I think I'd go for the new nexus phone. Just wait for a lil while
I think getting a new LG phone is a waste, Anything other than a galaxy nexus is.
The new android OS? Availably from day 1.
Every app is tested on that first, which means closer to no bugs.
I think that i will take Galaxy Nexus. Just because of software support, developement. The performance is also o.k No need for 4 cores.

Yes, i know, but it is the only device, with the best price/performance on my carrier. I will take it on a contract.
As i said, maybe something from xperia line - The acro s?
Galaxy s3??? Htc one x???
Coz i like quad core!

Ahh. Bought Galaxy nexus today. No need for a quad core phone, becouse there is not where to put in all potential. Its enough with a dualcore.

When you say best wouldn't that be a matter of opinion? I've been enjoying my Nexus S 4G quiet a bit and I've tried a lot of the newer phones (S3, Galaxy Nexus, etc...) But keep coming back to my NS4G as for tablet no clue but the Nexus 10 looks awesome x)

Opinion?
As it was asked earlier, This sound like an opinion question. But I do like facts and more information before recommending a device. However as far as overall "Android" device, I would say that is the Nexus line because of the heritage and Options/Customization.
if you talk about customization and numbers of roms made for it HTC HD2 and SGS-1 are best.
I think best tablet spec wise is the Nexus 10. The best phone is a dual between Nexus 4 and Samsung Galaxy S3.
My Nexus 10 is cooler than yours.

[Q] New phone suggestions

Hey guys I was recently able to sell my g2x and I have about 200$ to spend on a new phone what ares some suggestions for a new device, I was thinking of a galaxy nexus or a htc 1 s. Any ideas would be welcome thanks.
Those would be my 3 choices as well...however before choosing i would compare the specs and performance of each device as well as checkout some of the custom roms and kernels available as i would root the phone as soon as i got it. i know the galaxies have a lot of dev support

Thanks for the advice I'm leaning towards the nexus cause of Dev support and I'm not realy familer with htc unlocking rooting and roming process.
Nexus 4 is 350 new, off contract unlocked.
Galaxy Nexus is still good though and a hundred bucks cheaper.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I'd say go with the nexus. I rooted several HTC devices for friends and it was a pain in the butthole, you have to register on htcdev, use command prompts and etc. etc. to unlock the bootloader and then do another to get S-Off and its just a mess
what about optimus l9
Does anybody use an l9 as their daily driver if so how do you like it I am thinking about this instead of a gnexus cause its cheaper but I don't want to be stuck with another lg phone that never gets updates.
Thanks
I just bought an HTC One. It's excellent.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I jumped from g2x to l9 and I love it. Just got the update to jellybean too. L9 is the best phone u can get at 199 New no contract. But remember this is a LG phone so jellybean might be the only update for this phone

Thanks for the info at this piont I'm considering either the gnexus or the l9.
Not considering gs3 anymore?

The galaxy s4 looks sweet. Think that might be my next rig
