I want to send my phone in for a repair on the prox/amb sensor that never really worked, whats the best thing to do to ensure no problems due to me being rooted and running custom roms. Do they replace the phone straight away at all or do you have to get it sent away for repair.
Should i unroot and reinstall default rom ?

Well they're definitely gonna do some tests on the phone but to be safe, put it back to as stock as how you got it out of the box.

I'm returning my current Captivate to ATT because it has way too many random shutdowns, it gets really annoying having to boot up the phone every 5 minutes. They sent me a replacement but currently I can't get ODIN to recognize the phone so I can flash it back to stock. I have Continuum running on it right now.
Could I just remove root and send the phone back? Or does anyone here have experience returning a phone with a custom ROM back to ATT? I don't want them to call me back and blame the custom ROM for the shutdowns and then in turn charge me for the replacement.
Thanks.
Yes you have to use one click and return to stock before returning phone. Custom roms and root void warranty.
Turn phone off. Plug in usb to pc. Hold volume up+down. Plug in usb to phone. Should go into dl mode and press start on one click odin.

I have a similar question, I have loaded GB continuum rom. If I return to stock with the one-click return to stock, will restore all GB boot loader?
Luckily I have an ATT return center not too far from me. I can walk in there and get a replacement. I am hoping to get one with better GPS performance (I know they exist).

Removing root wont change the fact that you have a custom rom. Make sure your in download mode on your phone, make sure odin is open first then plug in your phone. If it wont recognize your phone, try other usb ports or restart your comp. Make sure you use one click odin.

If you use the one click odin and master clear it will look like you never modded your phone.
I just did this at lunch today. Was having so many problems with my phone. 100% Sure I had faulty hardware and nothing software related. So this is what I did. I Odin-1 Clicked back to stock. Well one of my issues I was having was that even with Odin I would get a boot loop. It did get past the sbin and bootloaders, and replaced the flash screen with ATT and those annoying 3G Bars. Didnt even waste my time going to a retail store, went straight to a warranty store. In the store I explained the boot issue, and I was out with a replacement within 10 minutes. Granted if your Odin-1 Click works, you should be fine.
Sweet guys, thanks! I'll probably do this sometime next week.
Cool, thanks for the replies. I'll give it a shot on another computer because I can't seem to get ODIN to recognize the phone. I've tried 3 different USB cables. ODIN does recognize the phone when its on and running but I know you can't do anything with ODIN if the phone is on.
Try reinstalling pc drivers for phone see if that works.

...and using the back USB connectors if you are using a desktop.
Thanks guys. I was really trying to do this and this thread confirms all my questions.

re lock the bootloader then flash the 1.85 RUU.
If they check your bootloder it will say RELOCKED. There's nothing we can do about that.
I wonder if they would even turn it on. I've sent rooted phones to T-Mobile before, but this is my first phone on ATT so I'm not sure if they're different. Usually they have some assembly line that flashes the phone back to stock and it's just some person who couldn't care less. At least that's what I'm thinking..
I was just on the phone with a rep because of a spot on the screen that came from the factory. I was going to get a replacement over the phone but she advised me to go into one of these AT&T repair shops to get it checked out so I dont get charged if the warranty dept. decides the damage was my fault (which it wasnt)
So, are they going to somehow go into my settings and see that my phone is rooted and I flashed a ROM?
Should I just play it safe and do a factory reset?
Also, if I do a factory reset, will that remove clockwork mod? I want to do a backup before restoring so I can go into the shop without worrying about anything.

They will still know if you unlocked the bootloader. Are you just rooted?

Bootloader is unlocked.
Will they also know if I did a replacement through the phone?
As far as I know AT&T's device centers don't have the HOX yet and if your bootloader was to be unlocked odds are they wouldn't care lol. They'll replace a phone out of warranty also do repairs to phones without charging.. they're an odd bunch.

Factory reset won't affect your recovery (clockworkmod) and honestly, as long as you have a sense rom, they won't know the difference. they won't reboot the phone into the bootloader to check. I can almost guarantee this. If you show them your screen, they should only need to glance at it to tell that something is wrong with the screen and no further investigation necessary. You are golden in my opinion.
I did this with a dead pixel and I was rooted with bootloader unlocked running a custom launcher (so it didn't even look like sense)

Just relock your bootloader and ruu to 1.85. It's the safest way to go. It'll still say relocked but you'll be stock at least. If you have supercid then you have nothing to worry about. When you get your phone back just unlock again.

I use the One S from the Virgin mobile in australia. It's an S3 one and i wonder if I want to set new custom rom to it(prefer the Jelly Bean) and if not how can I roll back the stock rom for warranty purpose?( already read develop but can't understand the language there)
My phone still normal without root or doing anything and now I wish to up my phone to other roms. Please someone tell me the easy way in easy English so I can do it myself without worry about my phone got brick or any bad results. Thanks for you reading!
Can any one help me?

So you didn't root it or did anything to it? For the S3 One S are atm only one or two ROMs released, that are both quite close to Stock. No Jelly Bean or clean ICS until now.

You can reflash the RUU if needed, but since your bootloader has been unlocked, HTC can show you the middle finger during warranty repairs.
I've a S3 Singapore phone. I unlocked the bootloader and root it.
I received yesterday an OTA but it fails during the installation. During the reboot I've the HTC screen with a red warning message and nothing happened.
I tried to relock the bootloader but I got the same error. What should I do?

I found that my phone usually lag (delay) between doing things. I have Factory reset but it still there and can not solve. I take that thing to HTC dev but still not get response. So if I root and flash rom (wrong or something bad) -----> my phone get brick or block then I'm done with the phone???I just contract the phone within a month so I worry and lack of confident to do that (
My wife recently updated her phone via wifi to JB from ICS and her phone is damn near unusable. She wants to throw it out on the freeway. Her phone since the update is sluggish, and a constant headache for her. Her phone is stock, and unrooted. Do I need to root it in order to go back to ICS? Sorry in advance if this has been asked before.

You could flash in an ICS factory image using the built-in recovery (or at least I seem to remember doing something like it). But before anything, you need to know which variant of the phone you're dealing with (i9020a/i9020t/i9023/etc.) Just turn off the phone and check below the battery for the exact model. Once you have that, I (or somebody else around here) can link you to the right image for the device.

Oh, there seem to be no full recovery-flashable images for the NS4G. You could install a full image using fastboot but that would require unlocking your phone's bootloader (which more or less voids any warranty) and would also wipe all the data. If you're not particularly attached to all the data in the phone, you could try a factory reset to see if JB problems get resolved. Otherwise, maybe some other forum member might have a better idea.
OK, thank you. I'm about to go to sleep, and I'll ask her in the morning how she feels about the phone being wiped. In the meantime, maybe others can shed some info also. Again, thanks for the replies.
My wife and I both have the NS4g from Sprint, but our approach as to how we use the device is very different. She doesn't like change, simply wants the parts of the system that she uses, to work ... mainly tethering, mms, camera, phone. If your wife is anything like mine ... make your life a little easier, and just root the phone. It will give you so much more flexibility and choices. About a week ago, OMJ posted a stock, rooted rom in the NS4g development thread that would be perfect for her. It's all there ... smooth ... quick ... everything works.
i think before trying anything that could avoid your warranty you should do a factory reset ... it probably could solve all your wife issues ... it will just delete all your app but not photo or documents ( unless you select that option ) and you could after reinstall just the really needed apps your wife need ...
@wmdunn - She mainly uses her camera as well.
@kriout - doing a factory reset will still give her back JB tho wouldn't it? I'll ask her just to try it, and if it still runs slow, I guess root it?

The camera software in JB is really nice. As for rooting ... I have rooted every phone we've owned, and never had any problem with warranty issues. The rooted versions of the stock JB rom are smoother and quicker than the ota.

reinstall the stock image via fastboot, u will get a buttery smooth experience
Unfortunately, she is going to just deal with it and doesn't want to redo all the game play she has worked for for the last year. Thank you for all your input, I'll be sure to recheck this thread should she change her mind and re-read your help.

To do that via fastboot, Would I have to root?

No just an unlocked bootloader (wont void your warranty)
