[ROM][BETA 4.0.3] Evervolv 2.1.0 [Mar. 12, 2012] - Hero CDMA Android Development

Not going to make this all that difficult here. This ROM continues Jaybob413's Evervolv ICS. Just built from source on my own machine. Development here will be as time permits as I'm also developing my own Evo3D stuff. I do not have an activated Hero and cannot test MMS and Dialer capabilities.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what YOU do to your phone... You assume all responsibility and risk associated with flashing any ROM. Don't be stupid. Make a backup.
Don't ask for ETA's... it's rude and inconsiderate.

Tits, cant wait to see where this goes...
Long live my HeroC!!!!
damnit can someone switch mine and dastin's post around... BAH...

Market doesn't seem to want to play nicely... can't download any app without error. looking into this
Edit... It does work.. Just need to keep trying..

FYI OpenGL 2.0 will be added but it makes no noticeable difference. Anyone try this out yet? Besides me... Know its been downloaded.

Will be very soon, already have it on my phone, just waiting for some down time to flash.

I confirmed no difference.
my build.prop shows

do I have to change it to

That won't matter. I didn't add OpenGL2.0 to this build. What I have here is the same Evervolv ICS that JB built. Just built from my machine.
You were thinking I have added that into this download which I haven't.

I installed this open gl 2.0 zip after your ICS rom.
I am running quadrant now to see if there were any video performance gains and upon starting, it warned me that it may not work with opengles 2.0 or something to that effect. I'm guessing not since its still chugging away.
I've read through Jaybob's ICS Dev and ICS Rom thread and got to here but its been a while since I played around with my phone so I hope I'm not overlooking something. Thanks for your support.

Oh ok ok. Sorry. Long night. I got ya. Trying to compile ICS for the shooter too my brain is out of it.
After looking some more I realize it didn't get built in to my test build... Hmm.
Change the ro.opengles.version=131072
Then add this line somewhere in build.prop also.
Code:
debug.sf.hw=1
The zip adds the opengles line to local.prop but it won't hurt adding it also to build.prop.
However the debug line doesn't get added. So true hardware acceleration never gets access. That line should enable it. Remount system and reboot.
This is just off the top of my head. Ill get time later to look more into it but for now try that. It won't hurt anything. Plus you can save me a little time. Need more testers of information like you.

Hi, I am a developer for u8220 msm7200a device on modaco.
Let me share my thoughts with you on that "OpenGL 2.0" drivers.
The "original" archive has two drivers and config, obvious.
libGLES_qcom.so - hardware accelerated proprietary driver from Qualcomm.
libGLES_android.so - software renderer. Compiled from source.
So libGLES_qcom.so in the archive is of version OpenGL ES 1.1, and screenshot on the original thread shows it. Nothing new with this driver. It was around for very long time already.
You do not take advantage of that file/hardware acceleration, as you disabled it in your rom:
#0 1 qcom
I think from my experience with cm9, it'd help. (But boot animation brokes if enable hw acc).
ro.opengles.version in build.prop is responsible for "2.0" version on that screenshot. Tested myself. I can make Android System Info show 2.0 on froyo rom with only real 1.0 drivers.
For that reasons the archive looks as fake to me.
But it still might help, as *your* libGLES_android.so (and mine too if compile from cm9 sources) performs worst than one from GB or froyo. I tested it on froyo and it gave me 14 fps with fps2d app, while any other gives 29 fps (including the one in "2.0" archive)
That I hope explains observations that the archive does not help on GB and lower, but might help on ICS, because the latter is not in very good shape anyway.

That's what i was trying to figure out was if the drivers were the "original" and basically this is doing the same work around we have always had. Thank you pier for looking at that closer. It clears up the recent confusion.
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium

sweet, so it looks like it will help if enabled in build, but it aint no 2.0 but 1.1
STILL, 14~FPS vs 30~FPS is 2x...
Gotta love me some hack-fix's...

[APP][ROOT]DiskUsage (hardware rendering, honeycomb support) (last update: 30 May)

What is DiskUsage:
It is a way to find memory hogs on storage card using graphical representation of directories/subdirectories/files proportional to their size on storage card.
What's new:
- implemented hardware OpenGL renderer
- support for Honeycomb tablets
- different filtering to display apps2sd
Todo:
- integration with root explorer
Changes
3.0alpha: honeycomb support and OpenGL renderer
OLD:
2.1.2: fixed CM7 support, available on market
2.1: submitted to market
2.1alpha8: fixed crash bug for orientation change in App Storage
2.1alpha7: improved multi-touch, it is possible to continue zooming in or out holding one finger down
2.1alpha6: elastic horizontal zoom
2.1alpha5: automatic fall-back to original scanning algorithm if native scanning doesn't work.
3.0alpha4: hide by default list of mounts which require root. Ability to customize the list of mounts.
3.0alpha3: correctly handing nested mount points (/sdcard, /sdcard/emmc)
3.0alpha2: slightly better diagnostics and finding 'su' and 'chmod' binaries.
I am posting this in the Portal. Relax, you cannot expect to get feedback right away
This looks rather interesting... I'll have a look now.
EDIT: This is exactly what I've been looking for, works perfectly so far on my Galaxy S

This version should be able to read ext partitions as well, using 'su' to get full access. That's the change I'm working on right now. As you can see there are some incompatibilities, but I haven't seen a stack trace for any of them yet, so didn't have a chance to make fixes.

Much appreciated. Wasn't sure what dockpanel was, and hadn't gotten to axing that one yet in testing.
I guess that means i'm stuck with latitude, since I need Google Maps, but since carhome isn't "supposed" to work with our device according to Google, once it's gone it's toast.
I mentioned earlier that I un-installed the Genius app, tossing carhome gets rid of the rest of that silly talk stuff I can't stand. It's a danged touch device for a reason...lol.
I realize different things work for different people - my buddy loves the talking to it to make it do stuff, just not my thing.
But I need Maps because the feature of emailing places to people has become invaluable in a business sense for me.
We all use Maps, and as people need to be places we just email locations back and forth - someone simply clicks the link in their email and it plots it on the map, and then Navigation automatically computes driving directions.
Auto-sync with email notifies of the new location ready to be input, and you can share the location right from starting in the Maps app itself. When a person gets a new location to go to, they send that and their current to payroll - and their mileage is logged and compensation is computed before they even get to where they are going.
Score a point for Google making my work life much, much easier, and streamlining taxes and payroll.
Edit - i'm the guy I linked you to - another lol.
That thread was a group effort we undertook here to find out what all you could get rid of and still have the system run right. On my working install I use in my day-to-day on the phone, I have a lot of the apps I mentioned were safe to remove in the thread I linked to.
When we first got root on these phones, the day revolutionary was released, it was an all-out delete-fest to figure out what could be safely removed. Some people went ahead and froze things, others went ahead and just uninstalled them. By comparing notes and tinkering with it, we figured out most of what we could toss safely.
Like I said, I use some of the things mentioned to be deleted - but the focus of the thread was what could be removed, and not what personal preferences were.
When i'm doing all my GPS / A-GPS testing, for instance, I restore to my original CWM backup I made right after root and do all my testing with all the stock apps installed. I don't want to contaminate any of the tests by running a custom tweaked install, the only thing i'm trying to tweak in that instance is the GPS stuff i'm working with at the moment. I'm also trying to replicate the environment someone will be in out-of-the-box (or as close as can be since the phone is rooted with CWM installed).
Don't think that I run my phone on the daily with nothing on it - that would be silly and kinda pointless to have a smart phone that didn't do anything. But in the interest of discovery, you kinda have to go beyond what you're happy with to figure it all out. (or at least that makes the most sense to me)
Having tested software for a living for a while...just the habits I got into. Another reason why I go so overboard on backups. You should see all the CWM backups I have stored of this phone in different states.
Just wanted to clear up any confusion, in case you thought I was crazy about trying to rip everything out of the phone indiscriminately - there is a method to the madness (...or is it a madness to the method? Can never tell... )
The things listed that you can delete in the other thread are a pick-and-choose option, you don't have to remove them all.
Using ES File Explorer...
Can't seem to delete anything .... says that it can't be deleted.
Do we need to be S-Off first?
If so, how do we S-Off for Mac users?
There isn't too much clear detailed info for Mac users...frustrating..

There is no Mac version of the Revolutionary S-OFF method. You either have to (A) install Linux, configure it properly and run the Linux version of Revolutionary or (B) install Windows, configure it properly and run the Windows version of Revolutionary.
Your only other option is to wait patiently for HTC to provide a bootloader unlocker for this device which may or may not ever happen. They've released it for the T-Mobile Sensation, but that's a pure HTC phone and not a T-Mobile-branded myTouch model.
I've used Revolutionary on Windows and Linux and both methods are fairly straightforward. You just need to know what you're doing -- if you don't, you probably shouldn't be trying to attain S-OFF in the first place. Just use the permanent temp-root.

In another thread here, someone also found out that by un-installing the stock Google maps version, then re-downloading it from the market, you solve the problem of it running in the background all the time. Check the battery threads to find the specific posting, I forget which one it was in.
Glad to see we are coming up with all the little details here, everyone has a different approach to solving the problems we come across on this phone. Everyone sharing what they know here is starting to paint a pretty good picture of the whole situation - good job everyone!
(Yep, I know car home works on the device, but once you remove it you won't be able to re-download it from the market because Google has it listed as not working for this phone, so it will block the download - thanks for confirming from another phone that it is indeed working though.)

I believe I remember seeing this issue reported in the big thread over in the Development section. If I recall correctly, you should try clearing data for your Market app. I believe the process is something along the lines of:
Settings --> Manage Applications --> Open up the entry for Market app --> Clear data + Clear Cache
For some reason, there were also reports that making sure that your Date/Time settings are correct, and logging into Google Talk beforehand with your Google Account would help with Android Market problems.
Hope one of these helps fix you up. If not, I recommend searching the thread over in the Development forum. Remember to search before posting in there-- it's already a huge thread, and people may not appreciate answering something that's already been covered before multiple times. Good luck!
I cleared the cache and also signed into google talk so I'm not sure which it was but it worked. Thanks!

G2X with Ultimate 1.0 Google Search "Wrong Package File" Error

Hi and to whom it may concern.
I have a 7 month old G2X which I finally rooted it and intalled the Ultimate 1.0 rom on it by Webstar 1. It runs really well. Just a few questions if someone may know. I updated all the apps from the market, all but 2 of the updated fine.
Google Search says "it's the wrong package file" and gives a box saying "to uninstall it first and then try and download" the update again. The other app giving me a problem is the Adfree app. It gives an Error box saying "my item is processing and my order will be available in a few minutes" but nothing ever updates and you end up repeating it all over again.
Any procedures I can do to remove the Google Search App and install the new one as well as getting the updated version of Adfree.
Any assistance would be greatly helpful.
Sincerely Peekaypee in San Diego
I had this issue with Apex Launcher when I installed it to the system and then updated the ROM. Try moving the apps from /system/app to /data/app...that will most likely fix your problem.

Hey all who responded. Thanks!
Love the comments.
Hey Fatality.. Just a question about moving the googlequicksearchbox apk.
With this stock rom, I have an app which was put on by the developer called File Manager. In it I can go to the folder that has system/app and then open it and it has all of the apk's which I think were installed by Webstar1.
When I scroll down to the googlequicksearchbox.apk , I have two things that can happen when I quick press it or long press it. Quick press it opens up a dialogue box that says "Replace Application this is a system application. Do you still want to replace it. All previous user date will be saved". When I long press it, it opens in a subdirectory box with choices to select "Send, Move, Copy, Rename, Delete, Package installer, Messaging, Email, Google Mail"
What exactly should I do?
I know you had mentioned to move it to the Data/File folder which I tried but it would not move.
Remember when I try and update it from the Market Google Search says "it's the wrong package file" and gives a box saying "to uninstall it first and then try and download" the update again.
Thanks again for all you offer and I look forward to your responses.

GPS issues on the TF300T? --- aGPS Patch now released, discussion over

DISCUSSION has ended. Post if you want, but SOLUTION is NOW available:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904048
Yes, I brought a customized aGPS Patch for this device just like I've done for 30+ devices so far.
Original post:
Can anyone tell me how the GPS performs on this device?
If you all think it isn't great, I can bring my aGPS Patch to this device.
I will require the following files:
/etc/gps.conf
/etc/gps/ (all contents)
I resolved the TF101 and the Prime's problems successfully. I bet I can resolve this one as well.
Well google maps only works with wifi...
Same here, when i was on vacation my digital compas kept spinning around and google maps couldn't even get a fix.
Neither did GPSFix..
After i did some googling i found a couple of apps. All didnt work out and in once it worked.. no clue what did it, but its still not great, when there is no open air you'll never have a gps fix and if you have open air you need a lot of luck..
Now i have a iPhone 5 and it sucks even more.. lol jk

After i did some googling i found a couple of apps. All didnt work out and in once it worked.. no clue what did it, but its still not great, when there is no open air you'll never have a gps fix and if you have open air you need a lot of luck..
Now i have a iPhone 5 and it sucks even more.. lol jk

If you are on JB try the worldwide fix from Hydro JB Rom. Even indoor Ißll get a fix in less than 20 sec.
will get you the config files later. I am not at home.

I would like to see this as well since I was the first to use the name worldwide for a gps patch almost 2 years ago.
I find that my work is ripped regularly.

How "cool" is it to download something, open it up, and see no real difference between it and my 1.x branch patch. And, I get no thanks.
I wonder how my 3.x patch would do here.
Just give it to me and I´ll tell you how it is
Which one of yours should I flash?
Just flashing
Download the Google Specific CWM Flashable build
Will test it out a bit

I would suggest the Google No-SSL 3.1: http://derekgordon.com/gps-files/agps.patch.google.build.nossl.v3.1.zip.
However, for the other Prime series devices I further modified data to work properly. There should be an XML file in /etc/gps/ which would require some tweaking for optimal performance if the 300 works like the 100, 200, and 700 series Transformers.

Just tell me what changes or put up the file and I put it there with root explorer.
Just installing my Navi to test. Needs a bit, cause I just flashed a new Rom
This one wont install through TWRP. Will put up the files with root explorer.

Well, could you download the ZIP and just extract the \system\etc\gps.conf file to your /system/etc path?
My 3.x branch has a large gps.conf that I don't want to paste. I don't want to have to try and trim it down just to drop here for a quick paste.
The reason being is that I actually took the time to describe for people what variables or variable sets actually do. This, too, was ripped by others who claimed to provide detailed instructions on the GPS configuration and how to tweak it.
I swear, XDA has become a ripping and no credits **** realm. But, I still like XDA for the most part....
so i got the conf file to the right path.
Rebootet and no GPS fix at all
So what changes I have to make in the xml file. Already openened it in Editor

That doesn't make any sense at all. If you're using Hydro's, which is exactly 1.x, then there shouldn't be an issue.
You have Wifi connected I assume. Further, I assume permissions are fine.
I think two Notes apply to you out of my extensive catalog of FAQ.
First, clear Cache and Dalvik Cache. Conflicts can occur when switching to this branch at first.
Second, "Location is way off? Like, not near you at all? This means your GPS is not actually being used. Try the following to resolve it: Goto Settings -> Locations and disable ALL options. Reboot into recovery. Clear Cache and Dalvik Cache. Reboot normally. Go back to Settings -> Locations and only enable GPS. Reboot once more and try your GPS again."
I'd like to get ahold of the XML file in /etc/gps/ if you want to work with me to get a fully customized patch made rather than the quick markup of just the .conf.
Which permissions does it use to have?
Rebooting now needs a bit cause of wiping cash 160 apps to optimise
GPS is there in a bit
Just send me your mail address in PM and l`ll send you the file.
Mail is on the way
So that everyone has a chance to test this if desired, do a Nandroid backup (DUH!) and flash: http://derekgordon.com/gps-files/beta/agps.patch.asus.transformer.300.test1.zip
The above operates the same was as the TF100 and TF200 patches I made operate. You'll have a new conf and XML file.
I'll drop this thread and open a DEV forum thread upon some more confirmations.
