[Q] Getting apps to work on tf101 - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok here is the deal,
I own a Motorola Droid 2 and have Real Racing 2 on it. I recently purchased Modern Combat 3 while it was on sale. But for some strange reason it is stating in the market the apps are not compatible with my Transformer. Is there a way to pull the app from the phone and put it on the Transformer? I legally own the app. So this is not a matter of license, but more of a matter of getting the .apk. Or is this compatibility issue something more like it has already been tested and doesn't work.
They are gameloft and EA.

You could try to edit your build.prop if your device is rooted, but there is no other "legal" way to get it working.

i do have it rooted, never messed with a build.prop though. what am i looking for? is there a wiki/tut on this?
ok i got my build props from /system/. Now what do i have to edit to make the app think its the motorola instead of being the asus?

Look for the galaxy note build.prop (do not download it, just google it and change the good value)

easy enough to find, but what is this "good" value?

I mean just change values that need to be changed, not the others

[Q] Modifying my build.prop to sneak a Samsung app...

Long story short, I have a G2x and don't really care for the available model specific dock, but found the dock for the Samsung Infuse 4g was more what I wanted. I've since rcvd it and as far as the fit and the charging, both successful [albeit, there is a small gap on either side, but not enough to be a deal breaker by any means...]
I then found I needed to DL the 'samsung home dock' app from the marketplace in order to get full functionality [use of a built in speaker and a speaker line out among other things]. Np, it's free... but wait, what's this, it's not there?!? Oh, turns out it's one of those sneaky apps[not unlike netflix at the moment] that is only visible to phns w/the right build.prop fingerprint. Still, np, I'll get it online from the xda forums, they have EVERY apk... They did and I did, still wouldn't install.
SONUVAB! Yep, buggered by the build.prop yet again!
So, now that the short version of my long story was found out to not be short, I am at a dilemma of sorts. I really want to be able to use the audio line out on the dock as well as the built in speaker [even though it's more of a novelty considering I doubt it is as good as the DTS capable speakers on the G2x] so I need the build.prop lines for a samsung model, the mfg, etc.
If you can help me, there is a big thanks in it for you... Not enough you say. Well, maybe a bought drink if you have that nifty link attached to your post.
Alright ppl, let's get crackin!

Here's what you're looking at. if build.prop is the only issue then you're fine. just download a rom that has this app and use the model information for that rom. API level too. something tells me you will need libraries from that rom too though.
He is right.... i have a Vibrant at home but i am at work right now... If you want i will post the build.prop for you and suggestions on what to use, if it is only the actual prop that's holding you back.
here is a vibrant build prop with what i suggest to change. BUT!!!! BACKUP YOUR CURRENT BUILD.PROP!!!!!! I am not responsable if you bork your phone!!!
ro.product.model=SGH-T959
ro.product.brand=Samsung
ro.product.name=SGH-T959
ro.product.device=SGH-T959
ro.product.board=SGH-T959
ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung
ro.build.product=SGH-T959
ro.build.fingerprint=Samsung/SGH-T959/SGH-T959/SGH-T959:2.2/FROYO/UVKB5:user/release-keys
ive used a simular one when i was running netflix on my vibrant but using a build prop from a ZOOM tablet...
Yeah, I know well enough to back up, been down that road w/my G1.
As far as it just being a build.prop issue, that's what I'm hoping, but not expecting. I know it's at least part of the issue though. Gotta go 1 step at a time.
I do thank you both though and will use any help I can get.

Wouldn't it just be easier to find the APK and manually install it?
I doubt the app will require build.prop settings (hope not). Seems like a lot of work to just download an app.

As it states in my original post, I've already tried DL the apk from the xda forums. Unfortunately, also as stated, the install fails. Much like the Netflix app requires a specific build.prop for it to work (although it still doesn't work on all handsets) being a manufacturer specific app, it also checks the build.prop.
I know modifying it isn't a guaranteed fix, its definitely worth a try.

Also as far as the libraries are concerned, I would recommend extracting both roms into seperate directories and diffing them. See which libraries dont match up and just try to add them slowly one by one and see if it works. Thats what I did back in the day and sometimes it worked. Logcat might give some useful info too. Usage: adb logcat

Dungeon Hunter 2 HD Xoom edition works

Picked this up at the weekend from the US Gameloft Wap site only to find that Gameloft had linked to the incorrect download file which when launched would come up with a message in Korean complaining about not finding an ARM processor. However they have fixed this today and I have now downloaded it and like the other Gameloft Xoom games works with the an amended build.prop.
I overlooked saying what to change so have added this to the original post.
In the build.prop look for and change the following two lines they are a few lines apart.
PHP:
ro.product.model=Xoom
ro.product.manufacturer=Motorola
Just be sure to edit the right lines of text and reboot your transformer after editing it in order for the change to be picked up.
Also make a back up of the build.prop file first. Once changed you shouldn't need to change it again or back.
Original thread about changing the build.prop can be found here.
thanks confirmed working

Are you guys able to access the Gameloft store from your TF with the edited build.prop? I have edited mine several times, but the Gameloft store is still knows I am on a TF, and tells me there are no compatible games .
DH2 works on my TF with hc 3.2. Optimalisation isnt good..frame rate in many moments isnt good...like 15 fps. Sometimes is smooth...this same is on motorola xoom. Ehhh gameloft should better optimalise theis games lake EA in dead space for phones.... I maid OC 1.6Ghz and fps still same like on 1Ghz.
It works for me without needing to edit build.prop. Unrooted here. But yeah, framerate is fricking bad, which is ridiculous when much more graphically intensive games run fine.

Glad you tested that as I was going to check on that tonight. Probably best to change the build.prop still if you're wanting the other gameloft games for Xoom, well except Spider-Man.

You will notice slow FPS when u enter to forest....

Do you own a Xyboard? If so, I need your help!

So I want to be able to get motocast for tablets on my Xoom. However, the market shows that it is "incompatible."
I have gone through the system dump for the Xyboard10.1 and do not see motocast in there so I am guessing that this means you can only get it from the market. Thus, I am asking, if you own a xyboard, would you mind going to the market, grabbing the app, backing it up and sharing the apk file?
Thanks in advance to anyone who decides to help. I think this would be a welcome addition to Xoom owners out here. I'm sure there is a way we could modify the build.prop file on the Xoom to spoof the market but thats a bit out of my league.

Try this:

Not sure if that's all you need though, but that's the proper APK for it... Hopefully you don't need other Blur services...
I think it was you helping me in that other thread (the rooting one). I appreciate your help but I still haven't gotten it to work . Haven't really had time to play with it more but I'm hopeful someone will get it to work.
Thank you though!

What happens when you do try to run it? There's another APK I can link that is related to it but it's also directly related to Blur so I'm not sure it'll do any good...
The file names actually have nothing to do with Motocast, which is stupid...
It tries to install but ends and says not installed or failed to install.
I've also tried dropping it in system/app and changing permissions/ownership to no avail. Also tried titanium backup restores but it hangs and i have to force close TB.
There are lost of apps that motocast app depending like motocast id. Will not that simple to port it over other tablets... It will require serious jop from a developer to port it and will not that easy.
Could I also make a request to xyboard owners as I didn't want to make a new thread over this; are you able to post your droid boot animation as the Xoom 2 boot animation is just boring compared to the xyboard. Thanks
Make that a third request for Xyboard build.prop, though for a different reason.
I have an Archos G9 80 and I want to masquerade as a Motorola Xyboard in the app store. Even though the Archos G9 uses the same OMAP soc and Honeycomb OS, albeit a different screen res. The Archos is just enough of a "boutique" device that a lot of apps will just say they're incompatible.
Much appreciated!

'This app is not compatible with your device' problem

HI guys, I have 'This app is not compatible with your device' message on 80% of apps on Market.... I didn't use my tablet for 3 month... it was properly working before
Now market looks different and i cannot download most of the apps.
I've tried to clean Market data, but it hangs, and when I reboot i works but issue still there.
I use Vanilla AOSP
What will be recommended action? Thank you
Give this procedure a try.
Thanks!

Thank you but suggested solution didn't work,
What worker is to update to 1.2, then I flashed GTabCombOver 3.4.2, now market works!
Good to see you sorted your problem. I get this error with the game loft data down loaders, the market let's me install them but the game downloaded gives the the incompatibility BS.
I solved this problem by getting a build.prop editor from the marketplace (should be available to most devices) and copied the settings from my HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4g). I can now download everything my MyTouch can. Some apps have minor problems, but most everything works fine. The only thing I can't d/l is the nvidia games, but I would submit that copying the build.prop settings from a phone that has the nvidia tegra would fix that problem.
I'm running the DRH ICS BETA and it has a built in build.prop editor with various selections to try but none have been successful for me, I even tried using the build.prop from my galaxy nexus but it wouldn't even boot.
change your screen dpi to 160 in the build.prop
Which settings do I change? I have the same problem. Apps that work on my Razr, don't work on here. Both are newspaper/magazine subscriptions.
Also, could the same thing be done to fool the Amazon market to think this is one of their tablets?

That doesn't really make sense. Amazon sold a ton of g-Tablets both via Woot! and Amazon itself. The g-Tablet is well-supported on the Amazon app market.

I meant specifically Kindle Fire Apps. This applies to a couple of news subscriptions that are available for I Pad, Kindle fire, but not generic Android tablets.

I found an answer to this problem. I downloaded what I needed on my Razr, did a complete backup with Titanium pro, copied the appropriate app onto SD card, put into G Tablet and install using Titanium pro. Worked great, that way the Market doesn't have to know what device I am installing this onto. The only problem was a notice that the resolution might be off. however, this was no problem.

I am using Cyanogenmod 7.2.0 (stable mod) and haven't found anything in the play store that I can't install. The only problem is using an older version of Google maps is necessary if you want to use maps. CM7 is fast and sips the battery.

Looking for .apks?

So I made the switch from the TF201 to the TF700, and I've got to say my overall experience is happy. The one thing I'm having trouble with is some of the games I have purchased are not compatible. I'm not one for pirating, but I do want these games on my tablet that I've already paid for.
Anyone know where I can pick up the APKs for Asphalt 6 and 7, Mass Effect Infiltrator, and BackStab? I'm not rooted, and really don't want to... But I do want the apps that I've already paid for.

Absolutely not condoning any kind of piracy, but I feel your pain. Here is a process I have to do a quick search for any apk that is out there.
1. If you are just looking for a canonical listing of all APKs:
http://www.google.com/search?q=-inurl:htm+-inurl:html+-inurl:asp+intitle:"index+of"++(apk)
2. If you are looking for a specific APK and you know what it is called add it right before the end of the string:
http://www.google.com/search?q=-inurl:htm+-inurl:html+-inurl:asp+intitle:%22index+of%22+%2B(<appname>.apk )
3. Wildcards in the appname area are supported but do result occasionally in unexpected results.

I may log in on a friends TF300 and see if I can pull them and back them up that way.... I'm not having any luck finding the APKs... But I haven't ever pirated anything on Android either. I choose to support the developers. I just wish I could make the market not hate my device.
Oops, so you haven't.
If you have another Android device (like even a smartphone) you could install them to and copy this way, and if you don't, I think you should consider contacting these games' devs/support, they are normally very friendly, I had the best of experience with most of them.
[sorry, I got confused in this sentence in the first version ]

I installed asphalt 7 on my galaxy note and used the titanium backup files to put it on my infinity. Works great. The Dark Knight says I don't have enough space to download files... I've got more room in the infinity than I do on the note...
