Looking for .apks? - Asus Transformer TF700

So I made the switch from the TF201 to the TF700, and I've got to say my overall experience is happy. The one thing I'm having trouble with is some of the games I have purchased are not compatible. I'm not one for pirating, but I do want these games on my tablet that I've already paid for.
Anyone know where I can pick up the APKs for Asphalt 6 and 7, Mass Effect Infiltrator, and BackStab? I'm not rooted, and really don't want to... But I do want the apps that I've already paid for.

Absolutely not condoning any kind of piracy, but I feel your pain. Here is a process I have to do a quick search for any apk that is out there.
1. If you are just looking for a canonical listing of all APKs:
http://www.google.com/search?q=-inurl:htm+-inurl:html+-inurl:asp+intitle:"index+of"++(apk)
2. If you are looking for a specific APK and you know what it is called add it right before the end of the string:
http://www.google.com/search?q=-inurl:htm+-inurl:html+-inurl:asp+intitle:%22index+of%22+%2B(<appname>.apk )
3. Wildcards in the appname area are supported but do result occasionally in unexpected results.

I may log in on a friends TF300 and see if I can pull them and back them up that way.... I'm not having any luck finding the APKs... But I haven't ever pirated anything on Android either. I choose to support the developers. I just wish I could make the market not hate my device.

Oops, so you haven't.
If you have another Android device (like even a smartphone) you could install them to and copy this way, and if you don't, I think you should consider contacting these games' devs/support, they are normally very friendly, I had the best of experience with most of them.
[sorry, I got confused in this sentence in the first version ]

Yes, you should definitely try this option, good luck with that!

I installed asphalt 7 on my galaxy note and used the titanium backup files to put it on my infinity. Works great. The Dark Knight says I don't have enough space to download files... I've got more room in the infinity than I do on the note...

[Q] Is there a reason to Root a Xoom?

Have my Xoom WiFi pre-ordered and delivery is supposed to be next week. I am coming from a Viewsonic G-Tablet (will still have two of them, just I won't be using) where the ONLY way to make use of them is by rooting and installing a third-party ROM.
With the Xoom, it seems like rooting it is more of an intellectual exercise than something that would make a big difference in day to day use. Is there something I'm missing?

Given Google's announcement about the HC stuff not being released anytime soon, I wouldn't be holding my breath on that.
So basically, the same reasons I might want to do it on my Nexus One. But it's not like the G-Tablet where I'm going to go from hardly acceptable to Notebook replacement is what I'm hearing.
True...as far as deleting apps I delete a ton. The browser, the games, and quick office is just a few. I backup my evo files and bring them over to the xoom (like games).

I use dolphin so i delete it from all my devices Don't need programs that i don't use taking up space i need.
I don't recommend deleting the stock browser, and here is why;
I have a rooted Droid running UD 7.0. It's set up with Sweeter Home, etc, just the way I like it.
When Google Gesture Search came out, I spent days trying to figure out why I couldn't get it to work. I found out by trial & error (and a LOT of restoring ROMs!) that it was because I had deleted the stock browser in favor of Dolphin.
-Prob'ly nuttin, but because of all the unknowns, I expect I'll keep the stock basics until I can do a systematic, controlled delete. Just my 2 sense, err, cents.

Agreed.
Not to mention its worth it for the overclock alone. I have not noticed a change in battery life, and in terms of heat the dual core runs around 90 tops under heavy use.
These threads are useless, this Guy has a rooted device and knows what functions root already does. Why is he asking us what we will do with it when he already knows. Someone says removed crapware, then he gives an argument. Someone says overclock or custom then he gives another argument. C'mon man you already know what root brings, just determine if you need it or not because everyone's needs and wants are different.

Just to clarify, I have a couple of rooted Viewsonic G-Tablets. I haven't rooted my Xoom yet because:
A) I haven't got it yet (3/29 according to UPS)
B) It looks like it's a more complicated procedure at this point since there isn't native SD Card support
So I was trying to decide whether rooting was necessary (which it very much is on the G-Tablets), or just something desirable. And in the latter case, if there's something that would let me do that I would really miss.
At this point it sounds like there are three things I give up by not rooting, and the only one of those I don't have an acceptable workaround for is the overclocking. But I didn't want to hijack my own thread by starting a discussion on that, and so have been following the thread about OC instead.
FWIW...
Only reason I rooted my xoom was for the ability to play movies stutter free directly from my net shares...other than that no other reason...doesn't need to be overclocked and not really in to the custom rom game.

What player are you using? I assume you needed the CIFS support for this?
yes Cifs from the market. Using rockplayer until vplayer releases support for the Xoom.
I had a Viewsonic on Saturday (returning it monday) and i tried all the custom roms, but the main issue is the terrible display, i found not only do you need hold it in front of you, it still wasnt perfect until you held it on a weird angle. Even for 339.00 it's not worth it. I liked the USB port on it but it's ready to go back to the store tommorow. The Xoom screen is much much better (I had them both next to each other all day trying to justify). Heck, i might bring both back and just keep my Nook Color.. Time will tell... Battery life with the Tiamat kernal was about 9 hours but i started it at 72%.

I am having the same thoughts myself.
I jailbroke all my iphones, I've rooted all my android devices, but, for some reason, I am not anxious to root the xoom
I think once sd card support comes, and, when there are MORE rom/kernel choices, it might be more desirable to do it.
for trouble free viewing of hd videos, just rip with handbrake, or a similar program and watch them with Vital player..

U do know that is system space and you cant access it, right? thats not good and can cause the system to become unstable. Its space you will never see or be able to use so leave it. Get an app that hides apps from your tray and your problem solved ina safe manner..but hey, to each his own.

I couldnt agree more. I use handbrake for ripping also and I also don't see any current use in rooting a Xoom. Movies play crystal clear..Battery life is 9hours..
I just think some people are never satisfied..lol..like we're spoiled brats.
Im interested in the process but people are tweaking and reaching like this beast of a tablet isnt dual core and on the lastest version of android.
This is a Xoom and not a G1..lol...Not yelling..just made a point that we are never content until we brake some ****.
Google doesnt want the OEM using and skinning their **** anymore..atleast without that licensing/kiss our Google, rich ass Fee..so they probably wont release Honeycomb until 2012 I hear anyway.

'This app is not compatible with your device' problem

HI guys, I have 'This app is not compatible with your device' message on 80% of apps on Market.... I didn't use my tablet for 3 month... it was properly working before
Now market looks different and i cannot download most of the apps.
I've tried to clean Market data, but it hangs, and when I reboot i works but issue still there.
I use Vanilla AOSP
What will be recommended action? Thank you

Thank you but suggested solution didn't work,
What worker is to update to 1.2, then I flashed GTabCombOver 3.4.2, now market works!
Good to see you sorted your problem. I get this error with the game loft data down loaders, the market let's me install them but the game downloaded gives the the incompatibility BS.
I solved this problem by getting a build.prop editor from the marketplace (should be available to most devices) and copied the settings from my HTC Glacier (MyTouch 4g). I can now download everything my MyTouch can. Some apps have minor problems, but most everything works fine. The only thing I can't d/l is the nvidia games, but I would submit that copying the build.prop settings from a phone that has the nvidia tegra would fix that problem.
I'm running the DRH ICS BETA and it has a built in build.prop editor with various selections to try but none have been successful for me, I even tried using the build.prop from my galaxy nexus but it wouldn't even boot.
change your screen dpi to 160 in the build.prop
Which settings do I change? I have the same problem. Apps that work on my Razr, don't work on here. Both are newspaper/magazine subscriptions.
Also, could the same thing be done to fool the Amazon market to think this is one of their tablets?

I found an answer to this problem. I downloaded what I needed on my Razr, did a complete backup with Titanium pro, copied the appropriate app onto SD card, put into G Tablet and install using Titanium pro. Worked great, that way the Market doesn't have to know what device I am installing this onto. The only problem was a notice that the resolution might be off. however, this was no problem.

I think their problem is they do everything on a whitelist rather than let people just try it out. So even if a device is capable of running it, since Gameloft hasn't thoroughly tested it, they block it off. As the Infinity just hit, it'll be a while before Gameloft adds compatibility to any of their games, if they do at all.
A much better approach would be to show a big disclaimer on "untested" devices that the game may not run properly and the person runs it at their own risk. If a person really feels unsure, the warning gives them time to use their google play refund.

I asked GameLoft on Facebook when they would support this game on the TF700, and why they hadn't as of yet, I got this reply-

I got it! Did you have to have the infinity rooted? and how about the nexus 7? can this be done with other games as well that are "not compatible" such as black ops zombies or spiderman?
Wow....this is an interesting 'discovery'. I like to play MYSTERY MANOR, but it, too, complains that my device is not compatible. Wonder if I backup the game on the SGS3, and then bring it over to the TF700......will this work?? I have root on both devices - is anything esle needed??
For whats it worth, Play does say it's compatible if you are running the unofficial cm10. I got it for .25. Well it does play, it does not appear to be optimized as it can be choppy.

Poor TF700 app support: Nexus 10 era

From the release of the Infinity, there has been low compatibility with apps and especially games. Some have said it is related to lack of developer support for the high res screen. Others have suggested the Nexus 10 will force developers into support for the new generation of where's-those-pixels tablets.
Both Skype and Rock star announced tablet optimised app releases in the coming fortnight (the latter for Vice City). The TF201 is on both compatibility lists but no Infinity. Is this deliberate? Or did hardly any Infinities sell and hence support for it make no business sense? In addition I don't see many EA or Gameloft releases, both old and new, supporting our machine.
Perhaps I'm being impatient and this is just the early adopter first world problem. Or maybe it's another reason to jump ship to the N10.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Not just the TF700. The Note 10.1 has the same issue. As does pretty much every other HD tablet.
They work fine. I've got nearly every supposedly 'not-compatible' game running, no issues...
The thing is this. Devs made their games in a low res. They're too lazy to re-release the games with a higher resolution. (adding the infinity to the list won't change the ingame res, it'll still be upscaled.)
All they have to do is update the texture packs, but they simply won't. Of course not,
EA has always been too arrogant for customer support. (Don't believe me? The EA Master Server was dead every day in BF2, and they haven't changed anything, not even a cable, 8 years, 7 Triple-A games and 9 expansions later. The Master server still erases profiles&progress nearly once a day, fails twice a week completely and crapped out on the release night of BF3 and stayed down for almost 3 days...)
Gameloft is Ubisoft's mobile section, so that speaks for itself in terms of a completely non-existent customer support.
To be fair, though, Gameloft has a decent amount. EA is just an arse:

Please clarify. There's a hundred ways in which you 'can't download'. Error? Doesn't start? What?
I side loaded most of my gameloft games that's not available on the market and they work fine. Some games however will have smaller menu screens or smaller on screen buttons. An example is wild blood. Come to think of it's that the only one I recall right now. EA games however, you get a server error when games open. With the exception of NFS Most Wanted. It can open but plays slow. Like playing in slow motion. Theres a mod to make it faster though. Glu games are all available. Most other apps are too.
On nexus 10 almost all the games for gameloft, EA are available from the market and all work without issues. Once exception is wild blood is not available but can be side loaded but buttons are even smaller and menus are blank. So really not playable. Most other apps are available too.
It maybe a matter of not being able to test their apps so they dont make it in the compatibility list? But it does suck that tf700 out of the box is not supported by most. Seems like its the misfit of all the devices due to its unique screen resolution.

Yup. Pretty serious, too xD. Used to be in a clan (before we all parted ways), was clanleader for almost a year, as well as led several division. Even played in the ESL and Clanbase finals for SWBF2, BF2142 and FEAR. (we won swbf2 several times :highfive: )
Been out of it all for a while now, though. Too little free time, and the games are too bloody expensive (And there's no fun in it anymore, all those kids and aim assist.. (we used to call it aimbots, and they got you permbanned..... now it's part of the game )
Aaaand we're off topic again xD Oops...
With the increase of 1080p phones in the next year being announced, I would expect that app developers would start to catch up with high resolutions. It's always been a matter of time.

That's a resolution-not-found error.
Basically, it means the installer can't find the files related to the device's resolution. (Evidently, as they don't exist.) You can call them until hell freezes over, it's not going to be resolved.
There's only one way around that, and that is to download and install the SDdata manually. There's plenty of sites that offer them. I don't think it counts as illegal to manually download the data if you already paid for the .apk in the playstore.

I think I remember this work around a while back. I will transfer the data from my prime to the tf700 and see how it goes. Thanks for bringing this up.

Same issue, same result. Not able to copy data from my S3 for this. Any solution?
My result with NFS most wanted is sideloading the apk from my s3 worked fine and it downloaded the data when I opened the game. Game is in slow motion however.
For NBA jam or Mass Effect when I transfer the apks and open the game I get an error. I copied the SD data also but same error on Mass Effect and on NBA jam the screen just flickers with the NBA jam logo.

I have nba jam on my tf700 and I downloaded it directly from the market when it came out, works fine too.
Edit: Oh F Me, I must've not downloaded the extra files, now I get the server error 5002 crap. I am just about done with this, either google steps up, takes a hit to make customers happy and apply some rules to the market, or people are going to start to leave the android tablet market and seek refuge with apple, at least we know they have rules for supporting their devices. I know, I know- itunes, evil apple and closed system, but I am willing to live with that but I would be able to download and play every game on their market without worries that my device would be incompatible for years to come.
GOOGLE GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND FIX THIS, IT'S BEEN AND IS GETTING WORSE, NOT BETTER!
I wouldnt necessarily blame google though. They have set of guidelines that if followed, apps should upscale correctly to fit larger resolution screen. Devs are just lazy and unfortunately some of them don't support tf700.

I do blame google, they allow the apps on the market without trying to hold the devs accountable to following the rules. why have guidelines if they aren't going to be enforced in any fashion. Sure, our devices were the first to hit the 1080p resolution in the Android market, but **** none of the big players are interested in supporting it. Even if they say they support it they really don't. As an example, you can buy need for speed for the infinity, it says it's compatible in the market, you can download the base files, but your f'd trying to download the additional files needed to play. ow whos fault is that? Google for allowing it to happen or EA for even allowing the base file to be downloaded? In this case, it's both parties, but when it comes to overall compatibility it's on googles shoulders for not enforcing some sort penalty.
It really doesn't matter what I think, they got my money and I'll make sure I don't fall in the shame on me catagory.
Oh and the Zen pinball not compatible issue, they turned it back on for the tf700 after I had a nice conversation with them about it not working. I will cut and paste my emails and their responses. BTW it all happened in a 30-45 minute window.
This is how devs should respond to issues with their apps.
This is me emailing them about the problem with Zen Pinball after the latest update.
"Hi,
I am a little more than frustrated with your company right now. I had this game running perfectly fine before the latest update, which broke portrait mode, so I figured I would un-install it then re-install it to see if that would fix the issue. Low and behold my device is NOW INCOMPATIBLE, which is a crock of you know what, it worked great before this last update. My device is a tegra 3 device, this game is marketed as a tegra 3 game with enhanced visuals, my daughters FUHU NABI 2 is compatible, a friggin kids tablet is compatible but my $600 Infinity isn't? Pleae send me the old apk so I can play one of my favorite games again.
Thank You".
Their response,
"Hi Cris,
Thank you for your email. We are aware of the issue with portrait mode, and will be issuing a fix shortly.
I am not sure why your device is now listed as incompatible, but I will look into this right away.
These updates are tricky, there always seems to be issues that we could not test for, or weird settings that we need to look at in the Google Store."
My response back,
"I appreciate your timely response to this problem, I contacted google play and they looked on the blacklist and the infinity is listed on that, just an FYI. Once this issue is resolved can you please email me and let me know because it really was my favorite game on the market.
Thank You."
And their response,
"We are turning the device back on momentarily. Portrait mode will not work yet, but should work soon as well. Apologies for the inconvenience."
Talk about easy, I mean they gave personal responses, not canned, looked into the problem and made available again in less then an hour. This is great customer service and in turn make me want to buy more of their games.
Edit:
More information from Zen Studios
Hi Cris,
The device was turned on about an hour ago, but could take up to an hour longer to reinstate. Please let me know if things continue to not work for you a few hours from now.

Final Fantasy Dimensions Crash

Before i start barking up the customer support tree, i was hoping to get some insight from the forum. Paid 20 bucks for this game and all it does on my phone is crash seconds after launching. I'm running Jellybam and wondering if anyone else has this game working for their device. Thanks!

Before contacting customer support (which I don't recommend, seeing as your using a custom ROM), I'd try a stock Sense ROM with the game, and see if that improves anything. HTC knows their GPUs better than anyone, and there is a pretty good possibility the game will work with proprietary drivers.
The best comparison I can draw is this: Battery life on my Dell XPS 15 inch triples on my Linux partition when I use proprietary drivers compared to the open source ones, because the open source drivers weren't optimizing the GPU clock speed and screen brightness well.
Try the company's software that made the phone first before anything else.
Pretty sure I remember something along the lines of Square Enix making their games unplayable on rooted phones. This might be one.

For the benefit of anyone else who finds this on Google:
SEE Agent Pierre: Hello and thank you for contacting SQUARE ENIX Customer Support. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
You: Okay.
You: Are you still there?
SEE Agent Pierre: just a moment please
You: Okay, no problem.
SEE Agent Pierre: (sorry about that, will be 2 minutes if you're ok to hold)
You: Yeah, that's fine.
SEE Agent Pierre: thank you for waiting Sir
SEE Agent Pierre: so I understand you are having issues with FF Dimensions on yur Galaxy Note, is that right?
You: Galaxy Note II, yes.
You: It crashes on launch. I wondered if this might be related to being rooted or setting a different DPI, but I didn't get time to test these things because of Google Play's 15 minute refund window. If it is one of those things, and there's something I can do about it, I can purchase it again.
SEE Agent Pierre: so you have been refunded the game by now and do not have it installed anymore ?
You: Correct. I'm seeing if I can find out what the issue was before I consider re-purchasing.
SEE Agent Pierre: alright no worries
SEE Agent Pierre: the fact that it is rooted is one of the cause
SEE Agent Pierre: If you bear with me I will look for any compatibility issue with the game and the G.Note 2
You: Okay, thanks. As much as I'd love to play the game, I'm not willing to un-root to do so. If there's a workaround that allows play on rooted devices, that'd be grand.
SEE Agent Pierre: alright, no compatibility issue was found with your device however it must not be rooted to support the game.
SEE Agent Pierre: you will need to un-root it but apparently you are not ready to do so
SEE Agent Pierre: is there anything else I can do for you today?
You: Is this the case for all Square Enix games? I was looking at Chrono-Trigger as well. I'm quite keen to give you my money, but not at the expense of being able to use a device I bought how I wish to use it.
SEE Agent Pierre: yes that's quite standard, you will find that in all our games
SEE Agent Pierre: sorry about that
SEE Agent Pierre: anything else I can help with?>
You: Thanks. Might be worth informing the person who made that decision that piracy is just as easy with or without root access and you're reducing your market somewhat.
You: I'll see if I can pirate the game and I'll purchase it from the Play Store again (though not actually download it) if I get the pirated version to work on my device. Seems to be my only option to actually play your games in a fair manner that means Square Enix gets paid.
You: Which is an odd situation but here we are.
SEE Agent Pierre: Thank you for visiting our SQUARE ENIX Support Chat line. Take care and have a good day!
You: Thanks for your help, all the best.
SEE Agent Pierre: you too, bye
Dimensions works fine for me on both jellybam, rebelrom, and cleanrom... I can't get it to work on CM and xylon

I was able to get the game to start by restoring app data via TiBackup from a device that was able to run the game, after saving the game once. In my case it was an Asus TF300 to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2

OP updating. The game appears to run just fine on viperXL. On my nexus 7 it works fine on stock. Next time I change roms I'll follow the above post and use tibu

Restore app+data using TiBackup from a device that works after you save at least once. Restoring before you save the first time will not fix a game that crashes on launch.

Just have a problem.... I have no unrooted device to make this titanium backup...
Right, so the APK itself is what checks for root access. I replaced the APK from the Play Store with an APK I got from somewhere else, and it works. Just installed it over the top. The game also checks for a legit Play Store license, which I have because I bought it. So no problems there.
Over-zealous anti-piracy methods push legit customers to piracy to get around them. Ridiculous. I don't advocate piracy, but if I've paid for something then all bets are off as to how I choose to make it work.
I'm also sticking to the XDA rules by not advising how you would go about duplicating my method. I'm hoping that mentioning the fact I got the APK from elsewhere is within the rules.
All the best.

I might be off here, since I'm still at the start-up crash stage, but it sounds like you have a version mismatch with the asset data. Make sure the APK is the same version as the hidden data.
SQ game me two official answers (none was the root issue)
1) Hide the shade bar.
2) Clear data, cache, and re-install.
Obviously neither worked. (Defy XT557D; stock V1.0.1 rooted crash, stock V1.0.2 rooted crash, hacked V1.0.2 over official license (with stock play store) crash.)

That worked. I had Black Infinitum installed and as soon as I went back to the stock them, Dimensions booted up. But then I installed Black Exodus, and FF Dimensions booted up as well lol. Thanks
