Hi all. I use CloneDVD Mobile. Any idea what miht be the best settings to record movies for my phone. I see no settings anywhere where it shows the resolution being like the one on my screen. Thanks in advance.
I just picked
CloneDVD up my self after reading good reviews.
I am told (not been there yet, but plan too in the next week) if you go to the slysoft forums, they will tell you all the info you need. And they are very nice about it. Keep in mind this is second hand info, but it comes from a reliable source, my Father..
If you find anything out before I can post back later this week, update here please, and we can have this for everyone to who might use CloneDVD.
Cheers
Ok. I used the Sony Playstation 3 16:9 settings. I then set it at 720x480 (NTSC TV). No idea what it means but I just put Avatar on my phone and it looks great. Remember to put the file in your DCIM:100MEDIA Folder as that is where the movies can be played by the HTV video player which is superior to Windows Media Player. Hope this helps.

Thanks. It works great.
Thought I'd start a thread, similar to the games one, to allow for recommendations for apps that are found to runs particularly well on the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
I'll start this off with:
Google Earth - Obviously the big screen makes it nice, but the fast GPU and super smooth touchscreen controls also help. tilting and twisting with two-fingers, panning and flying over the high resolution terrain of the Alps is simply amazing. I'd almost say, due to the intuitive touchscreen controls, it's as good or even better than the desktop version (not as many options yet though).
AndroidVNC - This works just like I almost imagined. Sitting on the balcony, then 'tap...tap' my Kubuntu desktop is displayed nicely and can be used on my tab. Awesome for checking up on progress bars of running stuff.
WinAmp is cool on the Tab. Gives You big enough room to select and scroll through directories (compared the N1)
Speed Hud uses the FULL SCREEN, can't wait to try it in my car at night !
EStrong File explorer also uses full screen and is excellent to use on this device.
Wifi Analyzer on the Tab lookes like a professianl Wifi tool !
XBMC remote is alos great on this device. Only problem I have is when Yo rotate it during browsing folders it looses info and You have to go backwards one step to see anything again.
TuneIN radio also works great. I have it running in the background most of the time
Skype is also a dream on the Tab. Gives good room for the big communications...
Photoshop express on a screen like this rocks !
MSN DroidX also works really good
IM+ does not work well. It does 2/3 size in the center
Meridian player works really well too.(pro edition) Plays MKVfiles and everything I have tried smooth. Flac and mp3's are no problems at all.
I just discovered TV Flash. Works really well on Tab, good quality and nice selection of news channels. Some entertainment tv as well! Get it while its in beta!
I'll add another one:
GMote is awesome. Using the entire screen as a touchpad to control the mouse on my XBMC box. You can also switch to remote or keyboard mode, and even stream files from the computer to the Tab. Very nice.
Fennec official beta works a treat. Finally we have firefox!

Where did you get the apk???
Can you share please? The ones I am downloading from the mozilla ftp aren't working
They just force close...
EDIT: Nevermind I found it... It's not one of the nightly builds but the publicly released beta.
Indeed. By the way, gmote doesn't work in fullscreen. Only the pad works, and not too well at that...

What exactly are you having trouble with? It automatically goes fullscreen for me (cover art of streaming music, the remote buttons and the file browser).
As for the touchpad, I did increase the mouse acceleration a bit beforehand, because I was using the touchpad from the Logitech DiNovo Mini before. Maybe that makes the difference.
The browser isn fullscreen for me. Cant remember now as ive uninstalled it. Ive got PocketCloud so its not really an issue.
Anyone tried GRemote? It's a prettier version of GMote, albeit commercial. http://gbmsoftware.com/
Will need to try Fennec, a link to a recent working .apk would be useful.

The server is, yes, but the client isn't.
They did say several months ago that they were working on a OS X server, but no further word of it, my guess is that it's not going to happen.
I'm searching for a good Newsreader App, where i have my Feed Abonnements on the left and the articles an the right, like you get it on your desktop browser when visiting google reader website.
Just search for fennec for android... can't be easier than that.
Really Skype... are there video calls? If not then where do I get video to pccalls from?
I got to say that one of my most essential needs on a device like this is comic book reading.
So I got to say I was quite pleased with the app Comic Reader Mobi.
The reader takes advantage of the full screen.

That's strange. In my case I just chose a root folder source for my comic collection that is located on my external sd card and away it went.
Perhaps you should get in touch with the developer through the comic reader mobi forum. The person seems to be quite hands on when it comes to helping users.
Could someone try and see if this app works on their Tab, I downloaded it and used it on my HTC Desire last night and it is so damn amazing!! Live streaming of games in pretty high quality straight to my phone
Would be awesome if it scaled and worked on the Tab too.

Yeah, JKK made a howto.
Ok, we know that the 2.3.3 ROM for the X10 was missing DLNA support. I mentioned in a previous thread that I was attempting to use the one from one of the other Xperias;
Well, I've finally had a chance to test the DLNA app from the Xperia Play on the X10 and can confirm that it does indeed work.
So far I've used it to stream a video recorded with the X10 camcorder to my Windows 7 PC. It didn't pick up an AVI I had however (divx format), however this is probably to do with the X10's codec support.
I'm going to have a look into the video apps on the Sony Play/Arc as there doesn't seem to be one preinstalled on the GB x10 rom - hopefully that might sort out the codec issue.
For now, here's the apk from the xperia play - enjoy!
I have a question...how does it work?
i was playing around with this last night, i was able to get my windows 7 pc to see pics on the phone in wmp, however, it would not see video or audio files on the x10.
also, does it work both ways? could i stream media from my pc to my phone? i removed dlna because i couldn't figure this out, and i want to stream from my pc more than i want to stream from my phone
can you explain me how do I use it?

wow.... its working.... I am accessing my x10 via Laptop....
used this guide to setup...

I don't mean to sound whiny or aggressive, as this is not my style,
but since Bravia Engine works (for photos at least) and now DLNA too,
it occurs to me that SE willingly did not include those features in the X10.
On the one hand, I get it. They have to sell their newer models,
this is not uncommon in the mobile industry and it's how things work.
On the other hand, didn't they expect that we will eventually find out that they
work, since it's that simple as pushing some files onto our phones?
I found out why I cant get the xbox to see the x10 - the client has to initiate the connection to the x10, then you have to select it in notifications and select "allow". Xbox can't do that as it can only poll devices that are already presenting themselves. I'm sure I'll figure out a way around it (add a client, then manually editing its record to match the xbox's mac should do it) but it's not a priority.
The non-x10 recorded a/v i'm looking at - wondering if it's something simple like placement on sd card (video camera saves files in another location to where my avi files are kept - i.e. not sdcard/media/video).
I agree that it's stupid and annoying that they've left stuff out that could have been added in 5 minutes- I'm convinced we can get the bravia engine working by amending that existing library file - the one on the x10 is likely just missing the entry for be_video, but we can't use the arc one because it uses different calls to the video architecture (it has a different screen to the x10 doesn't it?).
Possibly a good old fashioned 'diff' on the arc .so file and that of the one currently on the x10 might show up some insight as to what needs to be added? I'll look later - phones on charge and I've got to prepare for a job interview in an hour!!
thanks, it's work perfect .
Does anyone can gimme some hints that i can stream the videos made by X10 in 720P?
I have a Samsung TV and a PS3 and both say that the format is incompatible although both are able to play MP4 format in which the vids are recorded.
It is curious because with some roms it is working. But there the videos are recorded with the Stock Android Camera where you can choose between different formats.
Does anyone uses a mediaplayer where the videos made by Stock SE Camera can be streamed without converting them?
Thanks
you can also try an app called Skifta, i use that to stream content from my laptop to my phone or my tv aswell as from my phone to tv
its on the market and its free

Well, "we" are a pretty small group of people. I've met others with the X10. None had updated or much less knew about things like rooting, flashing, recovery, etc... Even among my techie friends who own droid phones, none have done the things I've done to my phone. I don't think SE is particularly concerned about what we try. If anything, it seems like they've lifted some of the things xda devs have done into the GB update.

True.. but i do believe they stated that it is possible with 3rd party apps.

because XDA community is still small compare to rest of the world, not everyone root and flash their phones once per 2~3 days like some of us here
Tnx

Sony's mindset is that you want your phone's stuff on the tv (preferably a Sony tv) and that you want to watch with a bunch of people without the hassle of cables- So this is a media server rather than a client.
That said, there is an excellent simple app called 2Player that works well with it's own DLNA client for music. I have a NAS with 14K songs that will serve to the phone. There are some other apps that will do both music and photos in the market such as iMedia which also work with the devices such as a NAS as well as Windows Media. FWIW, Windows Media has limits on what type of material will be shown, that is, not all file types will be shared.
All that said, only my Panasonic BluRay player is DLNA enabled, so to watch phone's stuff on the big tv..... and yes, it does work with my DLNA bluray from Panasonic, shows right up with the rest of the stuff. Have streamed photos, getting not valid media on the video, since it's not in the right format.
Thanx .. gonna donwload it

Hey everyone,
Browsing through the marketplace or a website for Live wallpapers is a pain, and I'd like to have a lot more than I currently do. How about you guys share some of your favorites? Maybe even include a mobile friendly link if you're feeling frisky?
Thanks!
I use 'wallme'.
You set folders in your gallery to be set as a wallpaper sideshow.
Many options available such as duration, transition, zoom, fade etc.

Aquarium is nice the free version doesn't let you customize how many/what type of fishes and other things but it's pretty cool IMO.

Oh man Light Grid is amazingly mesmerizing, and so customizable its crazy.
i've been using video live wallpaper for ages now. my fav has always been this video of the internal working clock. it fills up the whole screen with moving gears similar to what you would inside the watch. what i normally do is go to youtube and download a vid of my choice. this way i can always keep changing my wallpaper. i have mirror lights, particles, ink on water, the beach, rain, pug licking my screen, etc.
Can you explain in a little more detail how you rip these YouTube videos to be able to use them as wallpapers?

pretty easy. i don't have the link right now as it's in my laptop at home. but basically you can google it and several websites come up for saving youtube clips. what happens is you open the site in one window/tab. in another tab you have youtube open. so say you typed in the search field (of youtube) for clockwork. several video clips will come up. click on one and copy the http address as seen in the field above. paste this into the search field of the youtube video download site. once clicked, you'll get several format opitons. by far the most common are mp4 and flv. fortunately, video wallpaper plays both. save the file and transfer it to your phone.
from your phone, open video wallpaper. go to the menu screen and choose the video you want to play. presto! instant wallpaper.
btw, i noticed that some wallpapers are off-centered. if you're using adw launcher, click on the menu and bring up scrolling wallpaper option. this way you can choose which parts of the video wallpapers shows what detail. i think this should work as well with the default launcher.
hope that helps.

I used to read comics on my OG Galaxy Tab but I sold it a while ago and haven't done any digital comic reading since. I finally got a Galaxy Nexus though and the screen is large and sharp enough to start reading them again. I used to use Perfect Reader back in the day because it was one of 2 decent ones. It looks like it's still being updated but I wanted to know if there is anything better. It has to be able to open .cbz and .cbr files.
I'm also using Perfect Viewer on my tablet. Komik is good but has no landcape mode.

I don't see Komik. Might not be available for the gnex.
I use "Challenger comics viewer" in landscape mode (I developped it).
It's a great viewer, images are streamed and so, there are no wasting time to load pages.
It's available on market (there is a video) : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.kill.geek.bdviewer
Hope it's help.
