what is your fastest file download speed from where. not speed tests.
and non lte since there are only 9 cities that have it...
45 cities have LTE, AT&T has been busy.

I don't understand the question
Don't have any screenshots, but I've downloaded an entire ROM (approx. 300MB) in less than 5 minutes.
But there are too many variable that can impact this, as another file I grabbed from the same host and from the same location took 40 minutes to do a slightly smaller file.
Using a LTE dongle I have seen 45 down by grabbing a large file from Apple.com and 22 up by sending a file to my FTP server. But you have to be pretty close to the eNodeB to get that...
36mbps for my brother and like 22mbps up bay area california

With the recent news of TMO launching HSPA+ 42Mbps, wondering if anyone has noticed any sort of speed increase? Where I normally get about 1-2Mbps (at work), I'm hitting 4 1/2Mbps.
I did modify my build.prop to
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 24
ro.ril.hsxpa = 2
Dont know if changing this made any difference
What the crap no Philadelphia? Philly was the first to have hspa+. This sux

I don't know what some people do to get these crazy mbps speeds I sometimes see posted...I live in NYC, one of the first markets to get the 42mb bump - but I've never seen my data go above the 3 mbps range...fast enough to be functional, but I'd love to know what setup people are on to get these crazy speeds.
They already been testing HSPA+ Rv2 (42mbps link) in few areas but since we have 14.4mb cap on our device and IRL half of that speed you will see if your lucky in a good day.
Far as your setting goes in build.prop:
ro.ril.hsdpa.category = 24 <<< 42.2 Mbit/s
ro.ril.hsxpa=2 <<< HSDPA/HSUPA
Make sure you test it using all the radio as its area dependent. So based on your location you may see better signal (dBm+asu) than other locations and other users. But if you got around 4mbps its normal HSPA+ post speed on Rv1 (21mbps link). Even with Rv2 link you won't get speed increase as it can be just background overhaul. What you can however do is connect via WCDMA which would give you 0.3+% faster upload.
PS: Sup epsix.
Can the cap on our phones be removed or is our hardware incompatible?
I've hit more than 10mbps multiple times. That's in Vancouver Washington too.

with in the build.prop lies a coding that will allow us to increase our data speeds but it will not do much. maybe .03% - .06% growth in speeds. It's hardware restricted. also it has alot to do with Bandwidth being using at the time, and that location. If i'm out at the Hofbrauhaus i can get wicked fast download speed from about 1am - 2am, but during the day it's easily a 1/3 of what i see at night.

Hardware standard. Hence the POS SamSUX Vibrant 4G? aka same Vibrant sold as "21mbps" but you will see no diff this is due to the current traffic and provision rate which is placed on each acc. Normally this is done though RAN, RADIUS, ect based profile.

Correct. RadioROM, location, time, network load all plays in to it.
Its a good upgrade. With hspa+ 21 you can see 10mbps peak on a mt4g, averaging about 5-6. With 42, you can get 10 on average, peaking at 12.
I'm in midtown Manhattan at work, have 4 bars on H, and have gotten less than 1 mbps 3 speedtests in a row...a couple hours ago I got in the 2mbps range. It is the middle of the day, so I'm sure the network is clogged, but that is nowhere near 21 mbps, let alone 4-5.
As was said, I guess it really varies a lot throughout the day based on time, location, other factors etc.
I am in the middle of Chandler AZ with about 4-5 bars of H and I barely get over 2.5M down & 0.5M up... Running Virtuous Fusion ROM 1.0.5 and Radio 26.09.04.26... not seeing a great improvement yet...
Let me be clear so people can understand. Our MT4G has 14.4mbps hardware limit which you can't change by editing or even updating the radio framework. Now they can drop 100mbps links as it won't still matter. When they talk about revision link speed they mean for the towers as for overall thus network capacity is increased and more user is supported without crawling bandwidth bottleneck.
Now they have QoS based policies setup on the network to handle it along with standard user radius/ran profile which will simple if they wanted you would be set to 16kbps(2kB[8kbps=1kB]) since we using SI prefix. On top of that time/location/interference also plays factor.
Think of the pipe as the road. The car as the device and the jam is network overhaul capacity. Now it don't matter if you have the fastest car in the world if the road is small thus closing and slowing down the traffic to halt and causing jam. In sense you have to understand the network topology to move it accordingly. So making the road bigger (pipe revision layout exp: 42mbps) they can flow more but does not mean your car can go faster than the original engine.
Oh man up another 3 MBs now I'm up to 8 down 4 up

But, the myTouch 4G has a hardware limit of 14.4 mb/s. The best thing we could get from this is that we hit peak speeds, but nothing more.

Just checked the article, but didnt even find new york city there. Its only launched in long island in ny. Speedtest.net results also confirm there is no improvement.
Ok, so i'm in Houston which is one of the cities and only see the normal 2-5 depending on the time of day. What do I need to do to see if i can get the faster download speeds? I saw the modification of the prop bld but than someone rambled on about how it may or may not help depending on "stuff that is way over my head". A clarification in laymen terms would be nice.
For the last day or so, my download and upload speeds have been much slower than normal. This has been observed from standard file downloads over the web, ftp and speed tests. Has anyone else noticed this? I also seem to lose service all together randomly

While not in your area, I noticed this in Chicago..

It is up and down here in Atlanta. I've gone from 21 to 5 and everywhere in between.
What server are you testing against? Perhaps the test server is overloaded. For example, Las Vegas server is usually very fast except for today but New Mexico server is showing 17.57Mbps/5.75Mbps which is in line with what I've been seeing.
Post your data speeds..and location an amount of bars or db's... I have noticed that my data speeds are way faster than a month ago..now I can get 900kbs at 3 pm with 3 bars..it used to be about 150-300kbs..sometimes I can get 1500kbs at mid day which is perfect for netflix..

Amarillo, Texas
I get 3 to 4 bars avarage 90db

Late night: down 1780kbps up 590kbps

I compared my data speed to my friends Samsung epic in downtown OKC.
He was getting well above 1500 a lot while my fastest one was only 953. (5 bars for both phone)
In the pic, the first 2 are in downtown
the rest are at my house, a suburb.
I wish my triumph had faster data!
Just ran it from home @ 10p - 421 down. 106 up - two bars.
Interesting in that the download is slightly higher than usual, while the upload is MUCH lower than usual.
I'm getting much better service yesterday and today than I had last week.. Just tested, and with 2 bars, I'm getting 1253 down, 447 up.
Last week (or even Monday and Tuesday of this week), I was constantly getting drops to 1x and losing data altogether. So someone fixed something around here.
My personal best
2.23 DL
On my back portch, 2 bars. Pretty lame, at work (in town) I get full bars. I'll try it there.
Not sure why its all red.

LAME speeds... cool phone.
I'll post a screenshot later, but the last 4-5 days I've been averaging 150 kbps or so on the download, with 200-300 on the upload...
I'm in St. Joseph, MO running about 2 bars. Don't know what actual sig strength is.
Still lovin' the phone. The network? Meh. Not so much.
Haha.. Now my data is EXTREMELY slow.. Cant get over 100 kbps

My test scores have been all over the chart, with my best maxing out at around 1100 down and 500 up, and then I was pretty much parked right under the tower.
I think i have a slow download speed. so i wanted to see what every one else is getting. correct me if i am wrong but t-mobile 4g should be in the range of 7 - 11 mbps or higher. Well i live near Salt Lake and i am getting 1 - 3 mbps. Is this really a 4g speed? if not how do i fix it? i have tired several modems with out much of a speed change. Thanks for you guys input.
It really depends on the area.. At work, I only get about 1.5Mbit download speed. At home I can get about 4-5Mbs on a good day. At my GF's house, I can get 12-15Mb download speed.
I get around 18 mb

I travel all over and still slow as 3g speeds
I get 7 megs in st pete fl on simple mobile 60$ plan at my house with 2-3 bars dunno snr db or anything didnt check
It really just depends on your location. At home I get 15+mbps down but at school around 4 down which is not that bad considering my friend with the Droid razr can only get 1-2down with lte.

when i first got my TB and LTE phones where not everywhere i got 42 mb down and like 10 up. now it is more in the range of 12-18 down and 6 up.
The best I've gotten is 8 down and 8 up, but I'm in a huge market where just about everyone has LTE on their phone.
Arent the radios inside the TBolt designed to get at most 12mbit up down and the speed test app was flawed when the tbolt first came out, causing inaccurate results?
I don't think the radio limits anything but if guys are using the speed test app you won't see much speed cause that app is very inaccurate. I always do regular browser tests like you would on a computer. The results are usually a lot higher and more consistent.

The best I have seen is about 6mbs down. I just ran a test and I got a whopping 2mbs down.
I got 26 dpwn, 8 up in houston, 16 down 5 up in tulsa, 12 down and 4 up in wichita. Its very new to wichita, but still better than the 1.5 down max i got on my dinc

Fort Wayne, IN here! I used to live in Elkhart a few years ago. Best speeds I've gotten is about 10mbps down, although I haven't had my TB for too long to do lots of speed tests.
Best I've ever gotten was 37Mb/s down, can't recall upload. I use http://speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and the location for the best speed varies almost daily.
The best I've ever got was the day after the TBolt was released. I got 25 mbps down and 30 mbps up. Now that more people use LTE the speeds arent as impressive. last test i did i got recently was 11.05 down and 4.83 up. In Rochester NY
