Hi,
any experience of having this phone as bike computer?
I ve used my last year just for GPS tracking - turned on and put it to the bag. Now Iam looking for good bike mount, that would allow me to use this as normal bike computer.
Thx for answer
I'm assuming a motorbike? what type? Does it have a visor? If you do, you could probably get one of the suction cup arm mounts and have the phone on that. A clamp system would probably work better though, for security.
i would also like one too,
but for a bicycle
any idea? =D
I would love to have one for my motorbike too!! .. but I think it's hard to find something compatible with our desire z
For bicycle holders, there is this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bicycle-Bike-Mount-Holder-Cradle-HTC-Desire-HD-Z-/120645190552.
I haven't actually got it on my bike but another user on another forum has it and said it's pretty good for his use.
I just got me one of these
I ended up cutting the bike mount off as I only wanted it for the dry bag (touch screen still works)
Might fit the bill?

If you've got the otterbox case like I do, this is nice.

I use the "ultimate add-ons" one from Amazon on my motorbike. £20, comes with a 2 piece mount and waterproof case. Touchscreen works through the case too, so that's pretty handy. Some people have said the mount is flimsy and doesn't feel secure, but I just done mine up nice and tight and it is fine.

shipping to canada is gonna be a killer =[
otherwise i'd jump it
there's tons of stuff on ebay to hold your z down.
make a dyi and buy some super strong velcro and have it detatchable
So out of the few choices available, which is really the "best" for the G2/Dersire Z? I don't want to buy one that isn't any good, but I don't want to purchase anything really expensive either. I was skeptical about this one mainly due to the fact that it looks like it'd fall out (on a biycle, not a motorbike).
Anyone know someone that has tried this out?
http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-SM427-U...=1345050697&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+g2+bike+mount
I really dont want my G2 flying off on the highway lol. There really aren't that many options to choose from, kinda sucks.

Looks cool but does it actually work? Does anyone have any experience with these type of mounts?
Thanks everyone!
Haven't tried that one, but this one looks pretty similar and got a great review (though it's not available yet).

They have a suction cup one of these too that I meant to get for my Vibrant. I always looked in the cell section of stores like best buy when I was there, but never took the time to order from amazon. They get great reviews everywhere I looked.
I got an OEM one for the G2X and it works very well. I love that it has a sensor to put the phone into car mode automatically when docking. I know thats not new but after buying 3 flagship phones this is the first one that actually has this feature.
I guess the big advantage to the clingo is you can use it with a case.

This looks really cool too! I might pick it up for watching video at the poker table and as a bedside stand. I seriously doubt most people will be toting it around and reconfiguring it for each and every task throughout the day as their video suggests. Maybe I'm just not cool enough to own one yet, those people all looked pretty cool...
The Clingo stuff works really well actually. Leaves no sticky residue and if you start losing stick (after about 3 weeks), just use a lint free cloth and water to clean the surface and the sticky comes right back.
I only got rid of my Clingo for the one that mounts into your CD player slot.
there's a comment about the oona suction cup won't work well with the g2x because of the google strip on the back cover. anyone tried any type of suction cup with this phone before? i don't have one to try.

Looks like this one has a ridge or a raised hood-scoop looking stripe down the back so I dunno if it's gunna work.
I'll post again after I get it.
I've just been getting a bike (pedal bike) and would quite like to use my DHD on the bike, for GPS , etc is there a case or mount or anything that will go on a pedal bike , or if not is there a decent case I could strap round my arm, that would protect my phone in case of rain/falls

Bike mount
Hi,
I have found this fits a little tighter and feel like the phone wont flop about http://www.buybits.com/product/9264.aspx it is only £20 in the UK and I found in my local store a voucher to get some money off. Might still work "TESCO 1" at the checkout bit.
Anyways decent mount have used it on a mountain bike for gps and no issues with the case or mount. just not tried it yet when wet.
That's exactly what I'm after, cheers mate, will order one at the weekend I think.

Very cool. I've been thinking about taking videos while cycling (both looking into the camera or the camera pointing forward) like this guy (fast forward to 2:09) and this looks to be just right for that. I also use a tpu case so I'm hoping it will also fit inside the frame.
Thanks.

Getting slightly OT, but I think a camera mount on the helmet is the best bet for recording a trip, since it would point where you're looking (not where the handlebars are pointing) and bounce about much less.
Depends if it's road or mountain-biking I suppose...
On that point, I have often wondered about just how vulnerable a handlebar-mounted phone would be in the case of a fall: I have a feeling that beyond the shock of the fall, I don't think it would actually receive a direct impact, unless the fall was unusually spectacular. I've had a few and the stem-handlebar area doesn't seem to actually hit the ground.
I do wonder, though, on just how much vibration is healthy for a high end phone....
Yeah the helmet cam is a good idea (like many skydivers use) but to be honest I don't wear a helmet or head gear.
The guy in the video has quite a few cycling vids (he's just almost finished crossing the States on his bike) and his cam stability is pretty good and tripod based. I don't mind the shaking and vibration or wind too much. I use a mountain bike and it wouldn't be serious stuff - just out and about sometimes. To be honest - the glare on the screen makes me imagine the experience to be not so brilliant when using the display - unless riding at night maybe - but the screen should time out otherwise the battery won't last long. I'm hoping the TPU case would add extra padding.

I got this on Tuesday and it works spot on. Feels very sturdy and secure attached to my bike, I can confirm it is indeed very waterproof as I got caught up in some horrible rain and when I got home the phone was bone dry.

Why not try a bluetooth headset, and get a usb charger for the phone instead. Usb chargers can be bought from ebay.
I purchased one of these to hold my phone and was sick of changing mounts every time i got a new phone.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
Its basically a normal suction mount with a little bit of a sticky surface that does not come off on anything. The DHD fits fine and i haven’t had it fly off or wobble as i am driving or turning (and yes i turn sharp at high speeds).
This is probably (apart from a proclip) one of the best universal mounts i have used. The proclip is my choice as its solid and fixed but requires work, this on the other hand is my second choice as i can stick it anywhere in my car and have it suck down without leaving a mark and not have to mess around changing clips.
Features:
•Exomount’s patented suction technology enables you to mount on almost any flat surface such as car dashes, glass, wood, metal,
plastics and even drywall!
•Polyurethane lined grip keeps your phone or GPS safe and secure
•Quickly and easily mount and unmount your phone or GPS with our stylish clip grip holder
•Mounts all smart phones and GPS devices up to 5-inch screens
•Multi-angle rotation for your preferred viewing angle
cheers for the thread
does anyone use this with an otterbox (or similar) case? I'm thinking of buying one of these as there is zero options available for a DHD with a case
also any issues with the patented stick technology or whatever its called becoming not so grippy after x weeks/months?
Try slipgrip mounts for otterbox cases. You can find it on ebay also.

Non mine is still sticky now, i don’t think it is supposed to be super sticky as the gel and stick i think improves the suction. I just purchased another because they are pretty good and it doesnt need to be on a flat surface to work at all.
I've read that vibration might be an issue... we have very bumpy roads where I'm at so I wouldn't like it to be all over the place...
Any further info about this please?

I think there is a video review which says this but i have tried this on a Samsung Galaxy S2, Iphone4,Desire HD and Sensation and it is perfectly fine on bumpy roads. The clamp is strong enough to hold it. You will get the same jigger on say a tomtom or any other mount.
The reason why the clamp is the size it is, so when holding onto phones it doesnt press any buttons on the side of the phone.
Quality isnt that bad for its price and i would think its the best universal mount i have used in a car, i have used many mounts but this one has lasted the longest and seems very promising.
You can even rotate it and mount a tablet in your car!
I have ordered mine from eBay.. will post report as soon as I receive the delivery...

I'm a new user of it too, and love it !
Question for you:
Since my dash is not completely straight so I can't put it there (even so it lasts about 1 day), I'm putting it on the windshield, but the arm is so short that I can't find a good place for it.
I put it meanwhile just a lil bit below the mirror, but on a way that the top of the phone is kinda behind the mirror, otherwise its too far and too hard to reach it.
I tried many other places but none was good enough.
Its or too far or blocking the road.. :\
Where do you put it? and where do you suggest me to put?
Thanks,
Yarden.
what a piece of junk! i tried it last night and couldn't find ANY spots in my car (newish 2004) where it would stick! I haven't tried the windshield yet. It literally would stay in place a few seconds then fall. did anyone else get this? perghaps i installed it wrong. is it just a case of taking the white ring protector off the stick part then putting on a surface? or did i not do something?
I wonder how safe this would be if mounted on dash and you break suddenly.

Try Herbert Richter universal mounts if you're still after an option to use with otterbox case.
I've had mine for several weeks now.
It sticks everywhere.
I use mine with a Otterbox Commuter Case and it fits well.
Vibration is a small issue, though.
the Herbert Richter universal mounts is bulky with the arm, the exo gear mount is good btu if the clamp had a few extras to secure it better it would be 10/10

yes. take the white protector bit off, its that sticky bit that helps it stay stuck to the surface, im surprised the suction bit worked at all with that thing still on lol

The quality feels like it is kinda flimsy, but after using it, it feels tough.. i used to be kinda careful with it but these days i just grab and twist it and it definitely doesn't feel like it's gonna fall apart.
The ball bit that it rotates on did get a bit dirty on mine and it got quite hard to rotate it, but just clean the bit of it you can see (no need to take apart) and then it should be all good again. That's only happened once to me, and i literally just wiped with a dry finger and wiggled it about a bit and its fine again.

I do not mind if you send me cash paypal etc to handle the purchase and shipping for you? If you like i can weigh the actual device (without packaging) which will make it cheaper and price up on royalmail web site air mail signed for etc?
Got one of those
I got the exogear holder about a month ago, and i can recommend it to anyone.
Sticks nice to many surfaces, the phone is not slipping down, can be used with a phone of any size (or a gps device)
The only down side is that you have to use both hands to place your phone into the holder.
so it holds the note fine ?
Shopping for my brother for Christmas, and since I steered him into an Infuse a while back, I thought maybe a nice windshield mount would be a good gift in an appropriate price range, that he might actually use.
I gave him my old Siedio Surface case and holster, and he uses them all the time. So, I want to get him something that will fit over that. A lot of the online reviews I've seen for the mounts on ebay and Amazon say they don't fit larger phones (let alone with a hardshell case on them), so I thought I'd ask if any of you have had any luck with anything available out there?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts, ideas, questions, comments, etc!

I have three... and they work beautifully.
I bought a Scosche IPHW9 mount just a few weeks ago at an Fry's Electronics in California. It was an open package item that I got for $15, great deal. The suction mount works great. It "hugs" your phone to hold it. and trust me, your phone will not budge. And can hold devices up to 4 inches wide, (and it looks like) and 2 inches deep. Comes with windshield mount and a vent mount.
I do say it jiggles a lot when you drive, so inputting while you're driving can be troublesome. But you get what you pay for and it works more than great for driving directions. I give it 3.5-4 Stars.
I use an otterbox defender case. Found a mount at best buy thats all black comes with the window suction neck and holds this phone with a huge case.

i got my window mount for my infuse from ebay and it holds the phone in both the incipio off grid and the ballistic case from AT&T. most window mounts will work and mine is really good quality. the ratchet system can be flaky at times but i have had plenty of window mounts and that is a common thing that you run into. hope this helps.

Hi all,
Quad Lock, known for their great iPhones bike mounts, have started the production and testing of the same for GS4.
I think this could well be the best bike mount to come, after all the very bulky and ugly ones that are on the market right now. Besides, it can serve as car mount or belt clip by using a separate accessory.
it is clearly a niche product, but so far it looks great:
http://www.quadlockcase.com/collections/products/products/bike-mount-kit-samsung-galaxy-s4
What do you think ?
Price is kind of high, if you ask me. I wouldn't spend more than $50.00 USD It looks pretty nice though. For $70.00 however, I would expect a little better protection from the backside too, with mud or water splashing up from the tires and making sure that the water resistant display cover is really snug so a big gust of wind doesn't send it flying.
I like Topeak's version a bit better, and would like if they came out with a case for the S4 that fit. I'm using my iPhone as a dedicated bike computer, getting wifi from my S4 tucked away in my undertube bag.
The Topeak lets you adjust the angle and orientation, so you can use your phone as a handlebar cam if you wanted.

Well yeah it is a high price, but it also looks much better than the alternatives that are lame ports from car mounts.
Otherwise there is this the rockform bike mount, http://www.rokform.com/v3-bike-mount/ but it is even more expansive, and it looks a little too massive. Very robust though.
Just compared them all, the quad does seem to be the most full featured and i think maybe my thoughts regarding the case were a little harsh. i would probably die a little inside if my phone got water damage from a puddle. ill probably end up getting the quad and just take it slow in the wet areas.
Thank You for sharing
Both Quadlock and Rockform are very COOL mounts. :good:
Does anyone have bike mount that works with most smartphones? It would be nice to have one mount for several phones, so I don't need to buy one every year or so.
