Anything else I should try before I throw my phone into the trash ... ?
The problem is it won't flash a new ROM , in clockworkmod recovery it says
E: can't open cache recovery log
If I try to flash a new ROM it aborts the installation midway
It's Revolutionary S-OFF , rooted
I tried to replace the recovery but it froze the phone , I tried to replace HBOOT back to 0.98.000 but it froze the phone , i tried to install RUU , but it hangs at rebooting to bootloader and frozen phone , the eMMc chips is not fried , android flasher doesnt work froze phone , tried RUU thru fastboot frozen , PG88IMG (tried recovery , hboot and radio ) with SDCARD frozen or when I tried hboot - can' t replace hboot with older version ... tried adb , tried shell , went to local GSM repair service they tried it with xtc clip and nothing , so I'm about to just throw it away and get a new one , but it was still quite expensive so any last ideas?
Here is the full problem with details :

Yeah I can get into recovery
I have clockworkmod 5.0.2.0
Tried wiping cache , tried wiping data/factory reset , even wipe dalvik
The error above about the cant open cache recovery log
Well I really wouldn't want to throw it away , so is there anything I can do ?
try to replace the bootloader with the "dd" command in adb shell. Then RUU
I had a problem like this a long time ago cant remember which rom I was flashing but wiping or formatting cache did the trick back then ...
Edit:sorry dint see u already tried that!
Yes wiping dalvik, and cashe may help.

You'll still get money back from selling the phone even if it's broken

Give it to HTC, I know of a few people with s-off who had phones fixed. Also you can try to brick it more so it doesn't get to s-off, maybe

One poster says why not send it to HTC. That is a question I have. I'm about to try the revolutionary hack, I bought the phone stock and unlocked. I didn't get it from a carrier. If I s-off and root will that void the HTC warranty or just carrier warranty?

Faced the same problem once. Panicked for the whole of 30mins. In that interval, I'd flashed from 4ext to CWM back to 4ext. Formatted all partitions (except SD). A few mumbo jumbo. But I didn't touch boot. After the second flashing of 4ext & full phone format, it roared to life! No more errors! Unfortunately, I can't tell what exactly did the trick but it happened somehow. Don't give up just yet. Repeat those steps (even if done before). Oh yeah, the final step was to restore a previous rooted stock backup. Please try the same.
Edit: I remember recovery partition wouldn't format. Or cache. One of the two. But that didn't prevent Recovery from being flashed. Also that I didn't touch the radio.

Heey guys,

E:Error in /sdcard/overclocked_kernel_v1.20_1728_Mhz_by_SebastianFM.zip (status 7) installation aborted.
I wiped Dalvik cache and chache partition but none of this seems to work.
i tried different kernels and tried re-downloading and flashing but nothing seems to work.

I know when I flash in 4EXT I have to mount everything by going into
mounts | storage -> Mount /data and /system and make sure /cache is mounted. Then back out and flash the kernel you are trying.. See if that works.

How did you unlocked your device?
If the htcdev unlock method was used, than you can not flash boot.img since it is still locked.

Tried it, same message, tried the 1512 Mhz, 1620 Mhz and 1728 Mhz. I'm starting to think it might have something to do with the md5, is that a possibility?

I unlocked it in the early beginnings via Revolutionary, since then stil S-OFF, also never been S-ON again since then. I'm thinking of trying another kernel, "Bricked" or something like that, just to see if that one will flash.
Just wondering, could it have something to do with the H-Boot version? I now have 1.27.0000. Should i get 1.27.1111 to flash the kernel?

My Sensation had ics t-mobile version with hboot1.27. It is rooted, unlocked, supercid, with s-on. I tried wire trick by JuopunutBear and missed. I can get into bootloader or a white screen with HTC in big letters. I can not connect it by usb to my computer -- adb does not detect device. ControlBear.exe does not detect device. On bootup to bootloader, I can get device to scan for PG58IMG.zip files. I have tried about every PG file on the web and tried clockworkmod files to no avail. It appears to me that my only way to save my phone is to place a miracle file on the sd card using my card reader. That is what I have tried with original PG58IMG.zip files. It has ver 3.6 sense and 3.32.531.147ORD software no. and Kernel ver. 3.0.16gc764bfb. Ten days and no relief, please help at wits end.

I connected to my son's samsung, device found. Drivers are working well. On the same note, I got a message when retrying the wire trick that drivers were not installed, that being QHSUSB_DLOAD. Googled it and said to try the wire trick, did it and an entry of android with drivers showed up. Next, did a controlbear fast boot and drivers disappear. Same applies to ADB devices. Tried the kill-server and etc but no go.It looks more like doa.
I started this process b/c I got 2g with t-mo ics upgrade. So, I rooted, unlocked, supercid, went for wire trick to remove s-on but failed. Maybe my download of controlbear was bad - about 10 days ago. Is there hope to repair, or is it time to throw in the towel? Thank for your help.

Do one thing...
Flash a custom rom
Follow the guide "Flashing roms with SON " by asskickar in sensation general section to the letter.
Don't say the phone's not getting detected
We don't need adb to install a custom rom
And when phone connected from bootloader to pc (phone reads FASTBOOT USB) fastboot commands works
And those commands are enough to install a custom rom
Read the guide.. You'll understand (where ever there is an adb command in the guide.. Immediately the next step would be an alternative saying do the step #4)

Not sure if this will help when you are messing with hardware. But I keep a full backup of my SD card on my computer. I have bricked my phone once and I removed the SD card and using my pc to restored the SD card back to the pre bricked backup and put the PG58IMG file back on the card. This got me to recovery. Then unmounted SD card, removed the PG581IMG on PC (Couldn't get ADB ro work). Put the SD card back in, used Recovery to reset back to factory original and restored to a ROM backup I know was good before I started messing about and bricked my phone. Worked for me. Took forever to do, but it worked and I was able to stop my wife telling me "I told you to stop messing with that stupid phone'
Of course if you have no offline backups then find a door that needs to be kept open or a pile of papers you need to stop blowing away.

I had a similar problem, although I did not S-Off my phone (I avoid doing this, as it completely voids my warrenty)
It appeared to be a software issue in the ROM I had installed, I made an attempt to give my SD card a new format, what appeared to happen in my case is the media would unmount, the partition table would be deleted, the phone would attempt to mount the media again without the partition table and simply give up
I solved this by inserting my SD card into another phone and that would give the SD card its format, works fine now
I hope this helps, if you don't have aother phone put the new format on the SD card I believe 4EXT and CWM recovery both have options for you to do so

You need to format sdcard..
The method is this way
1.flash 4EXT recovery
2.connect your phone with sdcard to pc
From recovery
3.then toggle usb storage.. In 4ext recovery
4.a pop up appears on your pc to format the sdcard.. Format it and enjoy (fat32)

Is there any reason you prefer this method? This may sound rather presumptuous but from personal experience it is best to do this away from Windows as Microsoft don't provide full documentation for all their products

n particular reason ..that way SD-card is identified pretty easily thats all
and if 4EXT identifies the sdcard formatting it there itself will do too
actually there is a better tool .. SD Formatter (windows one) and it works perfectly well ..it uses algorithms optimized for sdcards rather than generic ones
Problem solved
I flashed recovery. Now i partitioned my SD card via recovery 2gb to 0 (not sure if thats correct tho) Rebooted and it now recognizes my SD card again.
Now trying to flash a ROM.
*UPDATE*
Flashed a ROM and up and running, all is working well again. Thanks for the help!
My friend asked me to help him fixing his Desire S. I don't know what happened with this phone but at the moment it seems it's bricked. When i start it i see the HTC logo but a few seconds later a phone image comes in with a red exclamation mark and that's all. I can enter the 3e recovery if i press the volume up + the power but i can't do anything there.
I tried the "wipe date/factory reset" and the "wipe cache" option and that's what i see:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
E:failed to mount /sdcard (No such file or directory)
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data....
E:Can't open /data/cwpkg.zip
E:Can't open /data/cw.prop
E:Can't open /cache/cwpkg.zip
ECan't open /cache/cw.prop
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete.
After i tried to install a rom from the SD card with the "apply update from the sdcard" option but i got an "invalid operation" message and the phone rebooted instantly. So basically i can't do anything with the recovery.
I figured out that it's got HBOOT too if i start the phone with the volume down + the power:
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.98.0002
eMMC-boot

I don't know what can i do with it because i'm not a HTC expert. But it's working. I see the S-ON part and i assume i need S-OFF to reflash anything. I tried to run a RUU installer from my PC and it was doing it's thing but a few minutes later i received a signature error.
If i connect the phone to the PC via fastboot i can communucate with it in the command line but i can't replace the recovery because i receive this: FAILEDremote: signature verify fail)
I'm clueless now. Is this a brick? Or is there anything else that i can try?
Thank you!
This error message may mean that the nand memory is damaged. In this case the only repair is replace.
Still you can try to figure the region and software version by running the command from a PC with connected device in FASTBOOT USB mode:
fastboot getvar all
Look for cidnum and main version.
For that you will need the fastboot binary - link in my signature. This will guide you to the proper RUU for this device. Find it in the forum, download it to the PC and start it with the device connected. If the RUU fails then replace the nand or throw it in the trash...

I am afraid that such RUU is not available.
You still have 2 options:
1) easier, but buggy - go to www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads, filter by Device - Desire S, Android version 4.0 and look for RUU 14.01.401.2, 404.0 MB in size, then flash it. If the problem is solved you can keep it or unlock the bootloader and use a custom ROM (recommended)
2) create a GoldCard (search the forum) and try an unbranded European RUU from here , that has 401 in its name:

Thank you, you are the hero of the day! The first option helped me to bring this phone back to life. It's working now and starting up without any issue.
But... i put my hungarian telenor sim card in and it's still showing that no sim inserted. Maybe it's carrier locked? I need to remove the simlock? If so, which is the best way to do it?

There is no pure software way to achieve this for our device. If you have a XTCclip in your city this can be done with hardware means.
Or just unlock the bootloader via htcdev.com, install 4EXT Recovery and flash a custom ROM. Currently my choice of preference is SVHD. There are several guides around that will provide step by step instructions. But not sure does this remove the SIM restriction, maybe someone else here can provide more information...

I did a few things while i was waiting for your answer. I was able to unlock the bootloader and i flashed a TWRP recovery. With this i could install a CM7 rom + Gapps. With this rom i can enter my pin code and i can make phone calls. So basically i'm ready. The phone is working, i have Play store and i can make calls. Okay, maybe that's not the best rom for this phone but i don't care. I will give this phone back to my friend and he will be really happy because he tought the phone is bricked.
Thank you for your help, i really appreciate it!
The other day I accidentally formatted my HTC One S from my computer. Now it is saying that I have 48.8mb.. now I don't have a OS installed.

I'll give you hints.
You need to format your SD card with Original HTC recovery to format it correctly.
Now I don't know if stock recovery would work with Hboot 2.16.
If it doesn't, you have to run a 4.1.1 RUU which will do the job for you. Then reinstall everything (hboot 2.16, 4.2.2 rom).
