Looking for a new phone that I can use in the uk on lets say the o2 network and come.home swap.sim cards and use on my verizon plan.
I understand it needs to be unlocked, I'm interested in which android phones that have the right radios and are 4g capable when state side and the xda support to unlock it in the first place, I love this place.
I'm too deep into android to go with apple and would defeat the purpose I'm trying to attain.
Which is data and account fluidity
When traveling, also ok with only connecting to wifi for data abroad, just tired of two phones and having to copy all of my data each trip , uk side phone is issued to me and is circa 1996 nokia so synch is not ready. Just want to use company sim in my verizon phone.
I also want the best out right now for my needs and also for roms and developer support .
Thanks for the help with a big question like this , hadn't looked into phones since the release date of my current.handset and there is a lot out there, I feel like I really ****ed up in choosing my current phone and now seek help before jumping in again. Current phone is a droid charge . Thanks again !

After much searching I found lots of 'no you can't's, but I haven't found any posts that are recent, ...in the last 6 months.
I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 that I successfully got working on Page Plus. I would like to get it on my folks' Verizon family plan. I called an agent and they said if it doesn't have a Verizon logo on it, it's not possible.
I question this, but I've found no one of late posting about this.
I think the phone will work on Verizon, it may just need the ESN number activated on their network.
I remember someone here or at PPCGeeks activated it for me on PagePlus, is there anyone/any way to activate it on Verizon?
I like the phone, I just don't need data, so I don't want a regular Verizon phone.
thanks,
Yes, you can get it activated on VZW... The only problem is this... you can't do it legally or ethically... It would involve doing things against VZW's rules as well as the law... and you would need a "broken" TP2 (or other VZW phone) to do it... But that aside... the reason it worked with PagePlus is because they allow outside phones on their network, with giving you the responsibility to make it work on their network.. VZW is vey explicit that they will NOT allow anyone elses phones on their network (same with Sprint)... They are the worse 2 when it comes to that IMO..... Sorry to the bad news.... But sometimes that is how it goes.... Maybe you can post an ad on here offering to trade someone yours for the VZW version.. or maybe Craigslist?
Thanks,
Trading for a verizon phone won't work, as then I'll have to get data.
My bottom line question:
I need a smart phone, but I NEVER need data, wifi is always available for me. But I guess there is no way to have an Android phone on a Verizon network, without a data plan?
Not legally anyways, that's one of the downsides to using CDMA, the carrier has much greater control over what kind of phone you use. Thankfully they can't control the Rom/OS you run on it .
You need a Verizon rep that knows what they're doing, it can be done.

Picking up a Droid 2 Global today in hopes of doing the Band unlock hack.
I understand it must be on Froyo to do this, and I am buying from a random/normal guy on Craigslist. In the off chance he upgraded to Gingerbread, could it be reverted to stock Froyo for the hack? I wanna put Hexen on it eventually.
Also, we went back and forth for a while, and he finally told me Verizon gave him the unlock code.
How do I "use" the unlock code and how can I tell if it's working or not?
So basically, it's...
- Buy Droid 2 Global
- Unlock Code
- Make sure its on Froyo and do the band unlock
- Flash Hexen
Am I missing anything? Thanks a lot!
Right.
You can still flash back form 2.3 to 2.2
Just bear in mind the "Unlock" step may prove to be hard to get. Given the fact you live in US, it is likely you could get "a hand" from a friend of yours on Verizon to get it unlocked. Just in case online unlockers can't.
Also - 2.4.xxx firmwares (Froyo) are known to have issues with HSPA connectivity - so called 'radio resets', in other words - be ready for not very fluent experience with this phone.
Personally I'd advise against going this way. Get yourself a Desire Z - much better modding capabilities and no hassle with unlocking/using it on any GSM network anywhere worldwide..
Wanted to make new thread to ensure responses, but don't wanna clutter XDA either so here goes. I'm buying a Droid 2 Global soon for my bro and wanna use with AT&T, so I have some questions
1. Does it matter what SBF or version is on it? I'm under the impression that it can all be flashed to the correct ones that I want to use.
2. Seller does not have unlock code, but he is a Verizon customer (just got iPhone 4S) and has assured me that he will get unlock code with me at meetup.
So basically, how do I reach Verizon/get unlock code (I think I can call 611 with HIS iPhone)? And how do I input it? And how do I know when its complete?
And anyone have a simple guide on how to do the process of flashing and applying the hack? I know its a search away so links would be nice (on mobile)
Thanks a lot XDA

if im unlocked, on 4.5.608 and N_01.48.00R
will the HSPA still suck?
I dont have an ATT sim right now but did the flashing, etc in case I ever did...
To get the unlock code from VZW, the phone needs to be on a Verizon line of service, and the account must be in good standing for the past 6 months.
As for firmware versions, you need 2.4.29 as the base. I'm not quite sure if it's possible to update to any other version leaving the baseband intact. 2.4.330 won't work.
And yes, HSPA will most probably still suck because it's a problem with the baseband firmware.
I followed
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8326-d2g-gingerbread-hack-for-us-band-unlockers/
to leave the baseband but move forward for the overall rom.
I guess i'll need to get an att sim for the fun of trying out the 'bad' HSPA
I know it basically worked because I could use an available tmobile sim for a basic phone test - no att test as of yet.
Just an FYI. When I had an ATT SIM for testing I regularly pulled 6-7 Mbits tethering on it despite the so called "bad HSPDA+" radio performance of the original firmware versions.
This was freind's mother's SIM who had passed away and was an old basic feature phone plan that I added a 15/month unlimited data feature to when I borrowed it for a few months.
I used it primarily for tethering and testing various radio builds etc. when we were first working on it.
The low bars is a feature of the VZW Global phone configuration and not an actual signal issue.
The radio performance of networks outside the US may vary greatly from user reports and I have no experience with international use, but on ATT the GSM/HSPDA+ performance was generally excellent or at least quite useable.
I'm hoping this will be figured out since it's a major feature that will never get to be used.
I for one am using the ATT Titan unlocked and on a different carrier (Telus) and yet when switching it on it still asks me to contact ATT or dial 611 to use tethering.
I highly doubt calling ATT from Canada will allow me to use this feature. I also doubt Telus (who doesn't support non Telus phones) will be able to help me either. I also doubt HTC can do anything.
There has to be a workaround for this.
I have got the same problem using an AT&T Samsung Focus S on Rogers. there seem to be no way to remove this unless you get it dev unlocked and play with the settings.
but even that is impossible now since Chevron Unlock has been down for a while now.
its actually a feature i used almost everyday. im gonna give it a few days, if there is still no solution, im going back to my galaxy s2. as much as i hate android, at least when you pay 500$ for a phone, you can what u want with it.
I would think that for HTC devices, that you could use the HTC Connection Setup app to configure your device for your carrier and that should point it in the right direction.
Most other manufacturer's provide a similar tool for their phones and I would assume using those tools would also configure your device to work specifically on other carriers.
Otherwise, it would be something that you'd have to contact HTC/Samsung/LG to see if they can provide a tool or fix to configure your device properly.
I doubt they would help since they sell devices to carriers, they will tell you to contact carriers. I downloaded the Samsung Wireless manager but even though i use Rogers APN, it seems stuck on AT&T APN for the Internet connection sharing.
aside from this issue i really liked the phone, too bad !
I have the same thing on my HTC titan from at&t - amazing phone but the tethering is a bummer --> starting to think I should have got the HTC ultimate from Brazil - it has the same bands as the at&t one but doesn't have any of the carrier branding on it.
I'm going to give it some time - once interop unlock is available im sure someone will find a way around the at&t lockout - or at the very least we should be able to flash the Brazil rom onto our phones
My Surround didn't even get 7740...
Not even sure how to search for this and tried Google and some other forums, but settled on asking the question here when I couldn't find an answer.
To be specific: I have a Droid Incredible that is left over once a member of family plan upgraded to iPhone. We are on Verizon. Another member of the family plan has a basic phone (enV3) which is breaking so we need a non-data replacement. Since I have this extra Droid, I am trying to understand why we can't use it...
I know that Verizon requires a data package with any smart phone. My understanding of the magic you all do here is limited, but I have a vague thought that it has to do with ESN or MEID that tells Verizon what make & model phone you have, alerting them to the fact that you activated a smartphone on the line, and giving them the signal to slam some charges on the account for monthly data.
My question (finally) is why can't I just flash a ROM on the phone that disables the 3G antenna thing and makes the phone look like a basic phone to Verizon? Ideally I'd like to still have the ability to get on WiFi and use the phone features, just not the 3G data side of it. We already use it as an "iPod" like device. Even though it isn't activated, I can connect to Google Play and Amazon App Store over Wifi and install apps. I can check email. I can play games. I can even dial and get the operator where they say I can make a call if I enter a credit card. Why cant I keep all that functionality I already have and just hook it up to my family plan to make calls with it too? Maybe the answer is that it IS possible, but nobody is interested in creating such a ROM. Maybe there is some technical problem making it not feasible. Or maybe it does exist, but searching couldn't find it cause people rarely want to do such a thing...
I just want to learn why this cant be done, so someone enlighten me. If it actually can be done, all the better. Again, specific details are Droid Incredible on Verizon Wireless family plan.

Simple answer is that changing the ESN of a phone is illegal and will not be talked about on XDA. Can it be done. Maybe but you won't any info here on it. A search for change ESN would have told you this.

I have a 3uk iphone sim with calls, texts and unlimited data which I would like to use on my tab - it works fine for voice and texts, but 3uk have blocked the data as they have detected that it's being used in a tab - I have tried the arguement that the 7 plus is actually a fully fledged phone, but that fell on deaf ears. So my question - has anyone managed to change the tabs identity by ammending the build.prop or similar to make it appear to the network that it's a different handset and allow a phone sim to work unrestricted. I would gladly buy a tablet sim if such a thing existed with voice minutes aswell as a decent ammount of data.
its likely your IMEI which is blacklisted, etc. Wow I havent even heard of any reports of AT&T doing this in the US which they are well known for.
Im sure there are others here tab plus as phone on 3 in UK.
my honest advice, as you said youve tried arguing already. search around on 3 customer support forums, ask about it, maybe you'll find a nice rep, which is may be your only hope. I would search sites like xda maybe for a person with a signature saying they work as a three support rep. Other than change networks, thats my best advice.
lets just say i found a nice rep here on xda which did me a great favor. dont get anyone in trouble though. peace and good luck.
oh yeah and F#€% anyone that tells you this is not a phone, their awareness is obviously limited.
