So my youngest knocked my wife's phone off the table and cracked the screen. Looks like the "glass", digitizer, and LCD are all one piece. The best price I found was in Texas for $65. The company I spoke with on the phone seemed friendly.
Anybody replaced one yet?
I haven't taken mine apart yet. Take lots of pictures and document the process. I am sure it will be of benefit to lots of people. Also post the link to where you got the parts. That would also be helpful.

Will do. I didn't post the link thinking some might call SPAM. I got it from www.globaldirectparts.com. The person I spoke to on the phone said they test all parts before they go out so plan for a test delay before it's boxed.

I've done a few iPhone 3G screens in the past. Even though this one's not $13, I'm glad I don't have to break out the heat gun to separate the glass...

From the dismantle guide that someone else posted, it does not seem to be too hard of a fix. The glass/digitizer/SAMOLED screen should all be one part since that is the beauty of what makes SAMOLED thinner than an LCD, there is no air/air gaps.
Seems like a good price for the whole shibang. Iphone screens cost more than that I thought and suck to replace.
I think it will be an interesting project to see how easy it comes apart and how easily the screen is replaced. I have done a few iPhones and a Blackberry Bold screen.
The more detailed the documentation the better.
65 Bucks isn't bad for a brand new phone on the market. Please please please take lots of detailed pics. I replaced numerous iphones glass and lcd's all the way from the 1gen to the 3gs, 6 in total(2 weren't mine). Hopefully it's as easy as those to replace. First day after the iphone 4 came out and friends were breaking their glass and coming to me to get them replaced digitizer and lcd combo's were running 145. But document this please. I'm interested to see what other fun stuff is under the front of the phone, already seen what's going on on the back side.
I have already torn my phone apart and taken pictures and a step by step of how to do it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740022
I hope that gets you far enough to replace what you need
Replaced the screen. Not to bad. Easier I think than the iPhone glass replacement. I took some pics. How shall I post them?
I think what iLoki did was harder than the glass replacement....
Make an open photobucket album or you could load to photobucket and just paste them in the thread with what you did. Interested to see how it looks.
What would you say the quality of the screen is? How does it compare to the stock AMOLED?
Alright. Much like a iPhone 3G/3GS, there's some sticky tape involved. Rather than splitting the glass from the LCD, you'll be pulling all glass, digitizer and lcd out. One tool I recommend for splitting the glue tape, a guitar pick. They actually send those with some of the iPhone screen kits. And grab your spouses hair dryer...
First off, thanks iLoki for the instructions. Removing the back plastic I think was the hardest. Just out of raw fear you'll snap the final upper clip. It pops when you remove it but don't waste a good panic when you hear the sound.
On the final steps of iLoki's instructions, you remove the ribbon cable under the blue tape to remove the speaker assembly. You can skip this step. Just pull the one screw that holds the assembly to the chassis. you can remove the mainboard and speaker in one piece. After that, pull what I assumed is the radio assembly on the bottom of the chassis to avoid snagging anything. It pulls right out after you disconnect the white antenna cable.
When the mainboards out, it's time to unglue. I used a hair dryer rather than a heat gun this time. It worked fine. I used low fan, high heat for about 60 seconds on each side I was working with. Use the guitar pick to start separating the screen from the chassis. You'll see the black tape that runs around the chassis in the picture. Don't worry about destroying that black seal tape. It comes with the screen. I did one side and worked the bottom, top and then the final side. If the glue is stubborn, try some more heat. Use common sense with that.
Once the screens separated, pull the black tape from the chassis. Be careful around the 4 bottom buttons. There's a silver metallic ribbon cable underneath. You'll see it in my picture with the tape rolled back.
The new screen came with 2 seperate sticky tape pieces on the screen. One for the perimeter and one for the main part of the screen. Peel them off and align it for install. Make sure the ribbon cable for the screen goes through the slot on the chassis. To get the screen "squared" up for adhesion, I used the speaker grill for alignment. AKA, start at the top, and lay it down top to bottom.
That's about it. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm around Atlanta so if I can ever help in person, let me know!
The screen is a OEM Samsung screen. Logo's and everything. The logo's are under the protective sticker on the front that says "made in China". Scared me at first...

OMG yall are some brave souls, lol.
so did your wife or kid break your screen? Title and OP conflict :/
Just ordered my screen
and I will be attempting this same "operation" myself in 5-12 days when the screen arrives... during a routine "check out how cool my gorilla-glass is" demonstration my amoled screen under the gorilla glass broke... yes, I am probably not the smartest person in the world.
Anyways, $73 later I will be getting my replacement screen from globaldirectparts.com - I'll let you guys know how it goes.

In all of your demonstration, did you develop a scratch, or did the screen just break?
Cuz if its just the screen breaking, I'll probably remove my screen protector.
man this might be worth ordering as a just in case at that price. can't believe the super amoled is that cheap considering the whole hoopla about how much they cost to make. Thanks for the link!
Just bought my captivate for 50 bucks from a guy who cracked the LCD. Replacement parts are on the way. Does anyone have anymore pictures or maybe a disassembly video? Thanks
Hi, I dropped my galaxy S on very rough surface and resulted in the metallic frame with ugly dent.
Is the metallic frame replaceable?
Is yes, I need help on guide how to do it.
Also anywhere I can place order for the frame?
Thanks in advance for the help
You can pretty much forget it. The screen is glued to the part you mention and the middle frame. You basicly have to remove te screen aswell as the sensorbuttons.
sorry to bring a thread up from the grave, so its pretty much HIGHLY recommended not to even attempt to replace this part ? (if its glued to the screen, then i guess thats a yes?) Ive wanted to replace it for a while; thought it might just slide off or something...from previous comment i guess not ?
Anyone know where I can purchase a second housing for the Captivate? I don't really need the screen or the backplate, but I'm looking for the grey part on the sides of the phone and on the back. (I'd like to paint them white haha)
Wouldn't it be easier to skin it white?

Those skins always seemed to work not right with my phones :\
I'm thinking of doing a vinyl wrap on it. What does anyone here think? If I ever get around to it, I'll post pics
I just got my TF700 and near the top of the screen theres a small circle spot, less than 1 mm in diameter. It seems as if its underneath the glass and cant be wiped off. Its most noticeable when theres a bright background and its darker than its surroundings.
Has anyone else had this happen to their transformer? Is it fixable? Or should I get it exchanged?

I also have something black sandwiched between the glass and screen as well. Drives me crazy when browsing the web since most pages have a white background.
Looks like a small piece of debris got under there during the manufacturing process. Shame because everything else with my infinity is perfect. It's too noticeable to ignore so I'm going to have to swap it out for another.

I might replace mine too, but it doesnt look like its debris. It's just slightly darker than its surroundings.
Hi,
I don't want to use Gear 2 without a screen protector. So I ordered one from ebay.
But I live in Turkey and it will take 3 weeks for the protector to arrive. Meanwhile, I want to cut out a screen protector for myself from my unused S3 screen protectors.
I need a screen template to print for easy cut out of the protector.
How/where can I find one ?
Thanks.
I'd appreciate any ideas...
Have someone hold the Gear or if you can figure out a way to hold it in place this would work too.
Take a piece of printer paper.
Take a traditional pencil ( not mechanical ).
Put the piece of paper over the watch face and hold the pencil at a sharp angle ( to use the side of the lead not the tip ) and go back and fourth over the face of the watch.
This will leave you with a outline of the edge of the screen.
Cut this out and now you have a template to make your own screen protector!
If you don't understand let me know and I'll try to take some pictures.

I think I understand you but this is a very rough way of getting a template. If I cut this out, I will have a slightly bigger screenprotector. It will not be very nice.
That's why I was looking for an official (or semi amateur) drwaing.
good

You just need to cut a little smaller than the outline. Believe me anything that is hand cut isn't going to be perfect anyways...
