you would have to use the adapter to plug in a power usb hub, meaning the hub has a plug in cable to give it power from a wall outlet. Then you could plug the drive into that. The problem is that the phone cannot give power through usb, so nothing would run off it without outside power.

支持otg,但不支持供电,需要外接供电!

what are the advantages of rooting?? I had galaxy spica and i used to root it to get o.s.'s newer to 2.1 working on my device.

Well...for a common user it might look that way. But to a developer's point of view you can do much more with rooting. Use the search button for christ's sake

rooting is very much helpful. it can let you customize your phone and also make kernel mods and OTG etc

[Q] Noob Xoom question.

Just got this thing and have been reading but just want a definitive answer to 2 questions.
1: SDCard slot does not work yet?
2: I have the WiFi Xoom, so I can't get data if I put a SIM Card in the SIM slot?
Thanks.
1) Not on the stock Xoom. If you root and install a custom kernel (see development section) you will have access to external SD card.
2) No

Like he told you, the stock 3.0.1 Android, does not support SD neither the 3.1. But whit a "rooted" SO u can do it.
If you need the update and some guide, i can help u. Or if you want to search in the forums its ok.
See ya!
if you go over to the development forums it will tell you how to root and install a kernel that will allow you to use your sd card. Imo it is worth it, and not that hard to do.
As far as the 3g data it would be a pretty labor intensive job, but I think some people are looking at how to do it.

Thanks again for the info. Right now, I am not in need of any extra storage, so I can just wait for Motorola OR root later.

[Q] USB OTG (on the go) is it possible and what do we need?

Is it possible to use USB OTG on the G3? Do we need some special cable, or it is a kernel, hardware or a software function?

Well we first of all need a supporting kernel. I remember Dharam and Hillbeast trying to implement it. Don t know what outcome they got though. Ask in thread.

Well what about a flash drive? That doesn't seems pointless.. Imagine a flash drive with 8 or 16 gb of movies..
Also a keyboard would be useful to type an email.

we can use a standard usb otg cable which is used for phones like the n8 and galaxy s2. techincaly its possible but we need to do the software part.
i have already asked some kernel devs like they said 1st priority is cm7, then cm9
and once both have been achieved to a certain degree then we can start thinking of deving other things. also this mod requires more work and deving then most others. so even when it starts it will take time.

Yes! If you can definitely say, that there are so big differences between Nexus and SGS so that OTG won't ever be working it's ok.
Another question would be if SGS/Nexus S will ever be able to support USB devices with power...
But here i won't be that pessimistic and say that it is not possible from the beginning.

There are no roms or recoveries for the xoom 2. There is little to no development for it. My suggestion? Return it and get a different tablet if development is important to you.

[Q] Broken USB, Broken CWM

I've read every thread on XDA about the Infuse. I was able to successfully update from 2.3.6 to cm9. Then of course I got greedy and went to cm10. While in CM10 the android keyboard kept FC'n. I went back into CWM and Factory reset, cache, data, dalvik and so on. Then I tried to perform a restore from a previous cm9 install. I got an error saying the system was unable to mount my system and something about not being able to mount recovery something or another.
I know normally I could just ODIN back to EP4 and work my way back up. Unfortunately my USB port was broken somehow by my teenage son when he was using the device. Because I'm a sucker and gave my daughter my SGH_i957 so this is the only device I have. Is there anyway I can fix this through CWM? Or is this phone a brick and I am without luck?
Thank You all
as usual I get no help, awesome

Only possible way I know is using heimdal and Odin back to GB, due to partitions u can't down grade from JB to anything lower than it. Same with ICS. U have bricked ur phone and even though u can access ur recovery I do not know of a solution to fix ur bricked phone unless u get ur USB port fixed

FWIW, sadly, I recently asked an independent repair shop about fixing the micro USB port on a smart phone, as I figure they must wear out fairly frequently due to all the plugging and unplugging for charging. They said that except for in the cases of about 3 to 5 models of phones, it is nearly impossible to fix the micro USB port on a phone because it is micro-soldered to the board. However, this may just be due to the fact that the repair shop doesn't have some of the more sophisticated equipment that a bigger repair shop would have. YMMV.
Thank You
