OS: Windows 7 ultimate
Problem: I have a touch button power switch on my Samsung monitor and it's getting a little over 3 years old. Sometimes it registers touch other times I have to hit it a few times. I know I could just let it go to screen timeout and wake with mouse but its annoying trying to sleep with it lit up till it times out.
Possible solution: custom shortcut on desktop? I vpn from my phone so I would be able to remotely power on off the monitor?
Please and thanks for any help.

There's plenty of apps which uses the phone like a media remote...just do some research on the market say using keyword remote...it'll probably depends on the apps functionally...

Thanks but that's not the problem. If the monitor is powered off all the remote Apps wont work.
I guess a better question would be...Since my monitor turns on/off with a touch button and not a physical switch is it possible to setup a windows shortcut to send power signal to the monitor?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
but I remote into my work PC when I head home and the work monitor is always off...
When you remote in...whether via wifi...or network...it doesn't depend on whether you're PC is out putting a video signal

I want to turn the monitor on...lol. I guess I didn't make that clear enough..my touch power button is failing and its a pita to get it to turn on/off. I was hoping someone knew a windows shortcut that would send an on/off signal to the monitor. I'd like to think its possible because the monitor doesn't have a push type physical button like older models had.

Lol sorry James...I mean as long as you have an app which has this function it will work regardless of whether your monitor is on our off in the first place...anyway apologies for the confusion...lemme have a look around

Do you know if the LED lights go back to full brightness after I turn on my screen?
Sent from my G2X using XDA Premium
No they don't. They stay at the setting in the app. Paul put it out its quality
Edit: this should be in the Q&A section

Do I know if I NEED the service running 24/7 on order to work?

If your using the app, yes the service MUST run. If its built into the kernel\ROM like CM7, then you dont even need the app
You shouldn't be running a task killer anyway. Android manages its services by itself killing system apps on a regular basis can make apps that need to be running in the back ground start again wasting battery. Plus your phone will act strange after awhile. You shouldn't use them.
Again this belongs in Q&A

Moved to proper forum.
Too bad I didn't read this thread earlier, I figured this out on my own today, doing the same thing, I changed my brightness to 1 (the lowest it would stay lit) , I do think this would definitely help out on battery life.

The Touch Key Lights app DOES NOT works properly with
1) Cyan 7 mod
I am using stock Android now, it works like a charm
One touch, and the program changes the value FOREVER (even after reboots, after I re-insert the battery...)
is there any app out there that would keep my screen awake to display a clock, (ideally with alert for new text message and calls) and not drain the battery too much? Nokia phone used to have the feature and my friend's Nokia 603 supports it too. i wonder if there is an app on Android as well.
Cheers!
What about leaving screen on and using the native "clock" app? Lol beautiful and built in ...

leaving screen would not let my phone sleep and terminate unnecessary apps. plus not to mention i would have to turn brightness to zero every time i want to leave my phone, and it would be prone to touch as well!
I think alarm clock extreme has that feature.

Open clock- press and hold screen. Idk what the difference is.. I guess I'm confused how you want a clock with screen on and not be prone to touch ???

I believe NoLED on the market has that and gives you notification options as well.

Any way to disable all radios other than bluetooth/wifi, so I can turn my phone into pretty much just an mp3/video player? Just got the LGOG, and this thing's battery dies even without use. If I take it off the charger, 12 hours later it's nearly dead just idling.
Turn airplane mode on and then turn WiFi back on. Maybe go back to gingerbread so you can watch YouTube with the the screen off.

Depending on the rom, you may be able to turn just the Data off by using the quick panel or the power button.

If you only want WiFi and BT, can't you just remove the sim card?

Is there a app that doesn't lock the screen when the display turns off, I find it a bit annoying on android to turn on the phone, on symbian I just had to press any key to turn on the display without unlocking it, and lock it only using the lock key.
I prefer a app like LG G2's Knock On.

theres a kernel here what does what you want ,well i think it does
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565299
I don't want to upgrade to a CFW now. I prefer enjoying rhe phone on stock than to deal with minor hindrances which ruin the experience on a CFW, like the camera bug mentioned in the thread you quoted to.

You're out of luck then unfortunately, custom kernel is the only thing that offers it right now.

Such a basic thing that symbian had but android doesn't, I am disappointed with Google.

Thanks for the apps but with both the apps the phone gets locked after the screen turns off, I wanted a app that turns off the autolock of phone and just turns off the screen to save power. So I can press any key on the phone to see the screen without unlocking it each time.

I can press any key except the volume rockers which leaves the obvious power button and the home button will turn my screen on and with no lock screen it does what you want it to.

The screen standby app sort of works for me ... enough for me to keep using it at least.... basically on my nexus 5 the normal screen off method doesn't work I have to use the one two dim method and the screen stays off for good
So currently i have it setup like this :
Auto HDMI detection > starts timer when i plug slimport in
lasts about 10-15 seconds ( enough time for me to setup my app etc )
screen turns off
