[Q] Skyrocket mic cutting out intermittently - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi all,
Just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else had experienced this. Using SGS2 skyrocket - stock 2.3.5 UCKK1 (rooted) and then updated UCLA3 everything (rooted) - When on a phone call after sometimes 1 minute and then other times 5 minutes my microphone stops working and the other person cannot hear me. I can hear them fine, but they cannot hear me.
Wired headphones work without an issue, but the internal mic seems to have an issue with my phone. a work around I read for the non LTE SGS2 works where you hit the speakerphone button and then they can hear you again and if you turn it off it buys you another 5 minutes or so on mic.
So frustrated with this that I am doing an exchange today on the phone.
Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced and if there was a know n problem with the phone? Google and XDA returned very little.
Thanks!

Hey I too also have this issue, I had a temporary fix which lasts longer than turning on the speaker but it's still temporary, I have the skyrocket on Rogers and I called them in about it, apparently it has something to do with the network, they did some reset and told me to restart my phone and it worked for about a week or so, hope this helps, if anyone has a fix to this please reply

I read another case like this awhile back, try searching it up. i believe it was rma'd though

I have a very similar problem, I go "in and out" a lot. The problem is the noise canceling mic on the top of the phone by the headset input, I left myself voice mail on my home phone and while talking moved my finger gently over the tiny microphone hole and that causes me to go in and out.
For most turning of Noise Suppression in settings will work, for me it does nothing as if it is perma on lol except on ICS where it actually turns off (dont ask me I have no idea why)

Captivate microphone issues

Hello all:
I am on my first replacement phone, and am experiencing a recurring problem that I also had on my original phone. At times during the call, the person on the other end will not be able to hear me (a la 'mute'), but I can hear them. I have confirmed that the mute function is not activated (even turned it on then off), but no luck. My initial impression was just a faulty microphone/hardware, but given that my second phone is also experiencing then same problem, I wonder if it is something that I am doing. I can assure you that I am not in any way blocking the microphone hole at the bottom of the phone (experimented with that to see if it was the cause). I can also rule out network issues due to moving between cells - I have experienced this problem driving and sitting still at my desk.
This problem, more than the GPS issue, will be the deal breaker for me - this is a business phone and I spend a substantial amount of time every day on work related calls.
Thanks in advance.
Thomas
I have the same issue. My coworker had the same issue with his the replacement under warranty.
If I use the headset it works fine. If I mute the phone and un-mute it it starts working.
Something is fishy with the microphone of this model ...
Okay, now this is getting ridiculous. Either I have really bad luck, or I am doing something wrong. On my second replacement phone, and like the last two, I have problems with the microphone cutting out during the middle of calls. Am I completely alone, or am I just lucky in getting phones with bad mics?
I keep the phone in my pocket with a body glove case. The mic is not plugged up, and it seems random. Could there be a software issue (ie a piece of software interfering and taking over the soundstream from the mic)? Even though the person on the far end cannot hear me, I can hear them.
Thanks

@ banesong: I'm having similar issues. I've had my phone for a little more than 24 hours. last night i couldn't hear anything coming from my mic and obviously could not communicate from my end. taking the battery out and back in fixed it for me. but i look at this as only a temporary solution. hopefully this isn't a hardware issue
I am having the same issue. I've had my Captivate since the end of July and it is running stock 2.1 that came with it and unrooted. I can't remember when the issue first started. But it has been doing it a lot more lately. It seems to happen around 8 or 9 minutes after I am on the phone call. At first I would hang up and just call back. Then I discovered that the mic would start working again if I just turned the speakerphone on and then off again.
It is really starting to get annoying now. I am thinking about getting a warranty replacement. The only reason why I didn't get a warranty replacement sooner is because I don't feel like having to remember and reinstall all the apps that I have on my phone now.
Having the same issue here and I have an idea about the problem.
If you remove the lid on the back that covers the battery the microphone is disabled and no warning appears on the screen. This is the same behaviour we are all experiencing.
There are two round blank spots on the inside of the cover matching two contacts on the phone. My idea is that the 'lid open' detection checks if the lid connects these two contacts.
My microphone usually starts working when I squeeze the phone.
Not sure about a workaround yet but connecting the two connectors directly inside the phone should solve it permanently (but voids the warranty).
Hope that helps.

Sorry, please ignore my previous message. I couldn't reproduce it yesterday so it must have been coincidence.
However, I have the same microphone problem and would like to know if there is a fix for it.
Cheers
T
Possible fix
I know this is an old thread but I have one of these old phones and was having this problem. After fiddling with the settings a bit I found a setting under Call Settings->Voice Call->Noise suppression. I unchecked the box and the mic seems to be working - for now.

Frontspeaker crackling

Hi!
I just got my nexus s. When Im talking to someone else on the phone, the person I'm calling sounds very crackly. The crackling appears while having the volume > 50%. If its at 50% and lower the speaker sounds just fine. Another thing I noticed is that holding my thumb onto the speaker eliminates the crackling.
I think that I'm going to return the phone. Just wanted to know if I'm the only one having that kind of trouble.
The exact description of the phone is GT-I9023FSAC NX in case some one asks.
Thanks a lot!
Tacoden
are you on stock? no volume config apps?
if you havent done anything to your phone yet besides calling and texting, then yeah, i think you should get your phone replaced.

Just exchanged my inspire for a new one, same problems, recall?

Well, ive been having signal/call quality problems and a broken speakerphone so I decided to exchange the phone for a brand new one.
On this new phone the speakerphone still doesn't work (the other person can't make out what im saying at all). Both phones have had this same problem, why does HTC not fix this?
By dialing *#*#4636#*#* I have switched the network to edge only and now get 3 bars instead of 1 in my house. Im hoping this fixes the call quality problem Im having.
Depending on how my call quality is over the next week, I may go back and see if I can pay the difference and get an Atrix.
Tell them you're having signal issues @ home and you'd like one of the microcells. That will alleviate your signal issue while there. The speaker phone, I dunno, mine has worked just fine on both of my Inspires.

Ive read different reviews and it seems very hit or miss as to whether or not they will give you one for free or charge $100-$150. Do you have any experience with it?
Called ATT, they sent updates to my phone supposedly, I seem to be maybe getting 1 more bar in H+ but not consistently. He told me to call a store and tell them you're having problem and ask about the microcell. Would be nice to get that for free, but still bummed about my speakerphone.
if you've only got one bar of signal, it could be the reason your call quality could be so low- may not be much an issue with speakerphone at all... does the other side hear you without trouble when using a headset or the phone itself?
and i'd assume you're using the stock rom that at&t ships- maybe you could install the volume+ app and tweak your speakerphone settings?
Which setting cuz for me it just yes back to hspda

The speakerphone doesn't work even when I have 3-5 bars. I will be talking to them fine, and then once its on speaker they say "what what, i cant really hear you" and then once i take speaker off they can hear me fine. Both stock phones have been like this? I will check out the volume+ app

speakerphone TERRIBLE
I have also had major problems with the speakerphone on my phone since I bought it. I think I am right around the 30 day return point, but I have been to lazy to return it to stock and take it back. Not sure if it is a hardware problem or if the phone is just like this. I asked my friend who has the same phone, and he said he didn't notice a problem.
It's like the mic input is way too sensitive, so when I put someone on speakerphone whatever they say gets looped back into the mic and echos VERY loudly back to them. Absolutely impossible to have a conversation with speakerphone on which is very annoying because I prefer it most of the time.
I can also notice that the problem exists when I use Soundhound. I can play a song at an extremely low volume and the input meter on Soundhound is always completely maxed out. If the song is at a normal volume, it often won't be able to detect which sound it is because it must be coming in too loudly. So I have to turn the volume way down and try again.
Is this not a normal thing on the HTC Inspire? Has no one noticed this? Or am I having some sort of hardware problem?
Can anyone think of a way to fix it, such as a mic input level adjust?
Thanks.
I exchanged my phone 3 times at ATT because of cell signal and call quality to later find out they are working on the towers in my area - so they say. I had 3-4 bars of service about 2 months ago and now i'm down to 1-2.
In the end, I threatened to switch to verizon and ended up walking out of the store with a free microcell. - I've also been on a ATT Premier Business Acct. for the past 5 years - so that might of helped.
Call quality on the Microcell is superb. Some of my text messages don't want to go out the first time and I have to resend but other then that its pretty good.

- Also, depending on your ROM, Radio, RIL combination - you may have the wrong Radio for the ROM you are using. I had a few different ROMS installed and the radio provided clear call quality on my end but on receiving end they stated that there was a echo. I switched radios and flashed the appropriate RIL and the problem went away.

The mic for the speaker phone is on the back.. when you use the speakerphone, you have to talk to the back of your phone.. not the bottom.. if you talk to the bottom mic they wont be able to hear you. This has been talked about on these boards countless times. search

[Q] Microphone very weak

Hello all,
I've been searching around a bit, but didn't find any helpful threads. so I'll start a new one.
I noticed a few days back that people have trouble hearing me when I'm calling them. I sound very far away. I think it has to do with the noise cancellation on the back, because when i take of the back of the cellphone, the microphone works normal, or at least much better... very weird.
I already checked for dirt or dust in the little holes in the back .. but found nothing. Already tried pulling out the battery 30 sec, Hard-reset, latest updates, ... but nothing seems to work. is it possible to turn off the noise cancellation? Any suggestions?
oh btw, i don't do Wifi calling, so i use the normal gsm network.
oh yeah, one more thing, The mic seems to work fine if i use it to record a video with the camera.

[Q] Infuse call issue

Hi all,
I bought an infuse last week for a family member and loaded cm7 on it without any issues.
Starting today, when the infuse is placed on a phone call no one can hear me but I can hear them.
I've checked the sim card for scratches and it looks perfectly fine.
After troubleshooting it a few more times, what I noticed is as soon as the screen goes black during a phone call the mic is muted, so I have to consistently light the screen back up for the person on the other end to hear me. This also happens when I use the sensor and place the phone next to my face, it will also mute me. I've made sure that I'm not accidentally hitting the mute button, but it's strange that the mic cuts out as soon as the screen goes black.
Does anyone have any fixes or inputs on this matter?
I have an infuse for myself as well, with the exact settings, modem, and rom and mine is working just fine.
The phone hasn't been dropped or anything.
I've browsed around and people have been suggesting to "uncheck background noise" setting, but I can't seem to find it. I tried pressing the menu button while on a call and there is nothing. Am I doing this wrong or is the setting nonexistent in cm7?
Thanks

Might i suggest to try another ROM? =/ I dont really know much about cm7, still its not expected to work perfect since theres not a real build for our devices only unnofficial compilations.
Or try all the compilations available for instance i can post this 2 threads that you can find on android development section:
LinuxBozo build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195525
uberamd build:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311960
If both have the same problem i guess using a smsung based rom would be the next step, theres a rom and rom port galore at our forum so you wont be short on options
Nope, the noise cancellation setting is not available in CM7. You would have to go back to a 'stock' based ROM to get that setting.
Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I went ahead and exchanged for another one since I am within my 30 days.
