New to xda - Captivate General

Just wanted to say that this forum has given my Samsung Galaxy S Captive new life. The rooms are quite amazing and the kernals are quite sweet as well. Just to state for the record, having experienced using kernals with Voodoo sound has taken my music listening to the next level. Thanks to all the developers for your hard work.

Great..I hope you read a lot before messing your phone....
I am sure you are reading good because your first post in in General and not in Q&A section.

Welcome. You may need rehab a few months from now, this stuff can get kinda addicting...

Upgraded from an Infuse (that I was mostly happy with except for some app freezing) to a white Skyrocket on Sat. Absolutely loving the phone so far... not sure how I feel about the fact that a Skyrocket HD is coming... but I'll cross that bridge when that device gets released. So far I have no problems the screen resolution.

I'm using the new venom ROM. I've tried buoyancy, nexusmod, and super stock. I like venom so far. I'll probably switch before to long. That's the beauty of Android - lots to choose from.

personal preference my friend. Try a couple out and see which one you like
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Agreed, you have to try some out and pick your favorite. If you ask 20 people on this section by PM randomly I bet you'd get at least 5-6 different answers.
SkyICS + Venom depending on your personal taste get my vote right now for multiple reasons, but the biggest being support and production. A vast majority of the roms that have come out for this phone have never/rarely been updated (no offense intended, people have lives, things happen, you get new phones, etc...).
Often, the stock ROM is the best since at least all the phone's capabilities are accounted for. More often, a rooted stock ROM is better since you can freeze bloatware, get around tethering restrictions and the like. Beyond that, it's kind of up to you to do your homework to make sure that a particular ROM does everything you need it to do (Bluetooth streaming, both cameras work, etc) and that you like the layout.
On a side note......
Q: What's the best way not to spam the board?
A: You don't post the same question in multiple sections.
Please don't do it again. Thank you.
Running venom right now and very pleased.

I've been enjoying Ice Cream Sandwich - Multiple Flavors. While I'm tempted to try some of the other ROMs out there, this one is really great.
It's the overclocked version, I scored a AnTuTu benchmark of 7284.
Does anybody when and or when I can drop Android 4.0.x on my baby?

Well to be honest there are tons of threads that can answer your question. The answer that i know is Sammy said they will release 4.0 for all galaxy variants in first quarter of this year and they said this back in December and have not heard any fixed time period since than.

Can someone please port the ics rom over at the captivate forum. Its the team hacksung rom.

The devs can't because they don't have a kernel. The next time you want something why don't you ask a little nicer. Demanding **** won't get you anywhere.

If it were easy to do, then it would have been done. Ajerman had something going, but that may be done idk. Btw, look on the other forum titled ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THIS! Its just a little below, please look in forums and titles before making a whole new one. If its months old (and has not been used) its fine, but a day apart is terrible. Please, learn some things about xda. Not trying to be harsh, but see at least what other people do, and use them to your advantage.
It's funny how someone like him has all XDA capabilities unlocked including posting in the developer section and someone like me who searches hours on end for an answer to my question, however, can not.
Maybe if you guys would title the other thread specifically then I would have noticed it. Secondly I did ask nicely, since when is saying please a bad thing. The problem with the development for the infuse is exactly what you are doing to me. You are bashing me rather than actually helping me. Development for ics is not progressing because all you guys do is bash people rather than actually work hard at developing a working ics rom. I'm not trying to be mean or anything but you should all work on a way to start working together to find a way to developing great working roms. You can find examples over at the vibrant and captivate forum. Just look at how far those forums have gotten. Please no bashing, I'm just a little mad that you guys decided to just start bashing when I had done nothing to offend anyone in this forum. Thank you, lastly I worked hard to have all the privileges that are given to me.

You might of said please but the way you asked was very plain like it wouldn't be that big of a deal for someone to port it. Watch your wording from now on if you need something. It's people like you that push the devs away not the people like us the support the devs and appreciate what they have already released for us. If you want it ported do it yourself and if you don't know how read and learn how.

Guys thanks a bunch!
The other two guys, take a long walk down a short pier. This happens to be a Q&A forum...so technically I'm in the right. Had I posted this in say...the DEV forum I could see a little animosity. However being in the q&a forum all I see are a couple of trolls. This isn't my first rodeo, it just happens to be my first HTC.
You guys are the reason people don't want to root, god forbid they be looking for a little support from a community that does nothing but hack android software and their specific phones no less.
Let the mod take this thread out. I've gotten the information I was looking for no thanks to the trolls.

While you're absolutely correct in posting this thread in the correct forum, literally everything you have asked for has been covered in numerous threads before. I'll apologize for everyone for why we get a little up front with threads like these since we see at least 2 every week. I'm glad this isn't new to you, but before you get angry please look at the rules you agreed to when you signed up for XDA. This is a dev. site first and foremost and some leg work is expected on your part. Searching is something you agreed to do before posting a new thread and if you did so you would have found every answer you needed.
Bacon, you can become the official XDA librarian. Users can request features and you will sift through the books (roms) and send them what they want!

To everyone else, please just read each Rom description and try them out for yourself. Everyone will like different things.

Moving on to the GS3. Thanks for all the support here!!

Hi everyone,
I'd just like to say that as of today I have sold my One S and decided to move on the the GS3. Why? Mainly because I'm looking for something with a better and larger screen. And the fact that HTC doesn't give a crap about development for our phones. The crappy bootloader unlock has been pissing me off, especially since I am on hboot 1.14 and I have to test different ROMs very often, needing to flash in fastboot every time. Without S-OFF, this phone can never archive its full potential, such as repartitioning the nand so that more GBs are allocated for personal use.
But this doesn't mean that I will completely stop developing for the One S. I will continue to update the ParanoidAndroid and AOKP JellyBean until or if they become official. I can't be the official device maintainer though. But the builds will keep coming and shouldn't have any major issues other than the ones in CM10. The kernels, however, will probably remain how they are now because it is nearly impossible to blindly develop and debug a kernel.
Thanks for all the support here; it was TONS better than the Galaxy Player community. I appreciate all the helpfulness and attitude in these forums and what a great dev experience I've had here.
thanks for all your work. I want the gs3 to but can't justify the price

Thank u so much and enjoy with your new phone. But now I feel sad, because your kernel gives me sooo goood battery life and a very smooth phone... You didn't make the two cores to be online like the other kernel here.
So what will I do when the jelly bean come to my phone, and some new updates?? I won't have your kernal anymore.
Now there is only one kernel which I prefer not to touch, only because of the dual cores which are always online.
Also there is not much devs here... I don't believe we will see other kernels here.
So you bought a new phone and that's great for you... But I feel that we lost someone very important - you ;(
Anyway, thanks for your amazing work here.

Alright no problem.
Hi Klin, i've been using your kernels and they've been rock solid.
Thanks for everything that you've given to the one S community.
It's a pity that you're leaving, but oh well, no one will be using the same phone forever anyway.
I do agree with you that the half ass unlock is a deal breaker.
Good luck, and i hope you will continue to enjoy development with the GS3 community.
Cheers!
Yeah, you've done a ton for us One S users, but I can't say that I blame you. I'm just holding out for the Note 2

I too will be moving to the Note 2 in February when myTMobile contract expires and moving to Verizon. Tired of pitiful coverage in Dayton Ohio.
Good Luck

I heard the S3 is cursed. You should probably get rid of it and get the 1S back. You know, for your own protection.
Just kidding. But seriously, please don't go :crying:
