Moving on to the GS3. Thanks for all the support here!! - HTC One S

Hi everyone,
I'd just like to say that as of today I have sold my One S and decided to move on the the GS3. Why? Mainly because I'm looking for something with a better and larger screen. And the fact that HTC doesn't give a crap about development for our phones. The crappy bootloader unlock has been pissing me off, especially since I am on hboot 1.14 and I have to test different ROMs very often, needing to flash in fastboot every time. Without S-OFF, this phone can never archive its full potential, such as repartitioning the nand so that more GBs are allocated for personal use.
But this doesn't mean that I will completely stop developing for the One S. I will continue to update the ParanoidAndroid and AOKP JellyBean until or if they become official. I can't be the official device maintainer though. But the builds will keep coming and shouldn't have any major issues other than the ones in CM10. The kernels, however, will probably remain how they are now because it is nearly impossible to blindly develop and debug a kernel.
Thanks for all the support here; it was TONS better than the Galaxy Player community. I appreciate all the helpfulness and attitude in these forums and what a great dev experience I've had here.

thanks for all your work. I want the gs3 to but can't justify the price

Of course. We loose another great member to the GSiii. Have fun, Klin. I hope you keep the ports updated bro! Don't feel shy to stay in the community even though you no longer have the device.

You'll be back .....

Thank u so much and enjoy with your new phone. But now I feel sad, because your kernel gives me sooo goood battery life and a very smooth phone... You didn't make the two cores to be online like the other kernel here.
So what will I do when the jelly bean come to my phone, and some new updates?? I won't have your kernal anymore.
Now there is only one kernel which I prefer not to touch, only because of the dual cores which are always online.
Also there is not much devs here... I don't believe we will see other kernels here.
So you bought a new phone and that's great for you... But I feel that we lost someone very important - you ;(
Anyway, thanks for your amazing work here.

Alright no problem.

Hi Klin, i've been using your kernels and they've been rock solid.
Thanks for everything that you've given to the one S community.
It's a pity that you're leaving, but oh well, no one will be using the same phone forever anyway.
I do agree with you that the half ass unlock is a deal breaker.
Good luck, and i hope you will continue to enjoy development with the GS3 community.
Cheers!

Yeah, you've done a ton for us One S users, but I can't say that I blame you. I'm just holding out for the Note 2

I can only echo the replies of my fellow XDA members. You are one of the best devs here and always very helpful.
I too will be moving to the Note 2 in February when myTMobile contract expires and moving to Verizon. Tired of pitiful coverage in Dayton Ohio.
Good Luck
Ken

I heard the S3 is cursed. You should probably get rid of it and get the 1S back. You know, for your own protection.
Just kidding. But seriously, please don't go :crying:

I really love my phone, I'm trying to get the most out of it. A lot of people seem very, ...uneconomical when it comes to phone upgrades. I've almost had mine for three years. I only pay $20nzd per month for my phone bill, and i'm not on a contract, so I just tossed some money to the side every month and racked up enough for a Nexus S.
I agree!
Thing is, its not just the G1 being kept alive, magics are well and truly alive and kicking due to this brilliant bunch of developers.

SGS3 VZW Devs.

I just want to say thank you. I seriously had second thoughts on this phone, but not for the same reason as all of the spastic idiots crying of the locked bootloader. It was because of those people period that made me want to get rid of this. The phone isn't even out yet and way too many people have underestimated your ability, whether you chose to make this much progress as a f u to Verizon or all the babies that fled to another phone because they thought you couldnt do anything, it really doesnt matter. For all those that helped and will be continuing to help. Thank you. Thank you. I don't care if anymore progress is made even. The fact that you do what you do for free (as most people seem to forget) deserve thanks as well. Great job!

I want to add my thanks as well. I understand that you put your valuable time into this work to open the phones to us and allow us to enjoy them in a way that the carriers would never allow if left to their own devices. I have donated to the developers of my favorite roms and kernels and I will continue to do so in the future.
Thank you.

In addition to thanking all the devs for their work, I also want to thank Samsung for seemingly intentionally not locking it down as well as they could have. It's hard to believe that they intentionally require boot.img and recovery.img to be signed to flash in Odin, but not system.img.
Agreed, there are a lot of thanks in order here. The dev community turned my Droid1 from a funky new smartphone (my very first) into a powerhouse that rocked for years and years. The fact that that very same community of developers, testers, and fans is still here, now, on these new devices is incredibly uplifting and makes me feel glad to own an Android.
Here, Here, a Hardy thanks to all for your hard work and time.
Absolutely shout out a huge thanks. I'm going to have to set aside some cash for donations for all this hard work you guys are putting in on this device. Being new to Samsung, I am very excited to see this community headed in the direction it is now.

How can we help?

As we all know, development & Support for our One XL is very poor compared to other phones like the One X Tegra, One S, EVO LTE and GS3.
What i have been doing in the past were how to videos and "Balanced" rom review videos for other devices and PC's as well. I would like to do more One XL videos and try to get it a little more popular and see what happens. Would you guys be interested in this? If so, let me know what kind of videos i could do for us, I'm open to Rom reviews, how to videos, and accessories videos.
I know I'm a developer but I also do enjoy using this phone and would love to see more attention brought to it before the One X+ kills it off for good.
I will be posting videos on the team nocturnal channel. http://YouTube.com/TeamNocturnalTV
Post the topics for the videos you would like to see me do

Start with rom reviews. You got half a dozen roms to keep you busy.
Accessories thread is by far the slowest part of our forums so maybe continue there with some more reviews.
(although noobs don't bother with stickies, especially on the mobile app) create a sticky thread reviewing roms, tweaks, homescreens, and hell, fookin quadrant scores with certain roms. The few devs here create awesome roms.
I've rooted my buddies gs3, and he can't find a stable/feature rich Rom to save his life

The one thing I would stay away from that was mentioned was side by side, who's is better reviews. They are all hard work and it then becomes overly opinionated and can actually decrease the motivation of the "losing" devs. Your reviews will be great, and thanks for offering your time:beer:

I just hope people wont think im taking sides since i have roms of my own and i have only showed one on YouTube and that was back in may. With that being said, i want to do more how to videos because i don't enough of those here.
As far as creating a rom of your own, read read read is all i can say, that is how i started and ask questions and use Google. But never ever use anyone's work no matter how small you think the file may be. Ive seen a few people here and there doing that and its not cool at all. that's a good way to get a bad rep off the bat.

Yeah - I've had a few different devices and been in a few diffeernt XDA forums and his one is pretty good.
We can thank developers like utkaar099, turge, scrosler, bpbear and rohan (amongst others) for taking the time to provide excellent support for the roms they create. Guys like exad and redpoint73 are also very patient and helpful in spreading their knowledge and advice.

OK I am having Happy Gilmore flashbacks. "I AM GOOD! You know what? You're a lousy kindergarten teacher! I seen those finger paintings you bring home and they SUCK!"
Alright seriously though, I have only kicked around the HP Touchpad and HOX xda forums and both of them are great. The TP dev'ing is slowing down just because its an older device but the thing didn't even come with Android so its a miracle that they even got it up and running. The fact that CM10.1 is currently semi usable is amazing.
For the HOX dev folk, its great(er). I have people ask me all the time what handy dandy new phone they should get but I keep telling them to get a last gen phone and come to XDA like I do. The HOX devs pump out so many great rom choices that can be used as (and are in my case) daily drivers. Sure I bounce around a bit but thats because I'm an unrepentant flash whore. With the inclusion of pie controls, ribbons and most recently HALO, the amount of customization is... alright I ran out of adjectives. Suffice it to say, THANK YOU dev community!

Depressing lack of development

Is anyone else kind of depressed by the lack of development on this device? We got S-Off within about 1 week of release, then after that two custom recoveries, one de-bloated and optimized stock ROM, and one kernel...and that's about it.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the work the Firewater guys put into getting us S-Off, Jcase getting us the initial temp-root, and Faux and iB4STiD putting out their respective releases, I really do. And with Xposed and the various modules, there's little I'm missing on this from my days on AOKP and other feature-rich ROM's. It's just weird that the AT&T version, for instance, already has almost 10 ROM's. Are the VZ M8 dev's missing something for our device that's preventing them from porting ROM's or creating new ones? Or is there just a lack of interest for the VZW M8? Or are other dev's working on releases and just keeping it quiet?
They just released S-off last week. Give them some time.
Yeah, it's probably just my chronic impatience kicking in...

I completely agree with shojus. I was fine with the idea of not getting s-off for a few months after release. We got s-off a week after the phone was released on VZW. That's absurd!! The verizon got S-off before the M8 was fully released! I couldn't be happier with the devs in this community and look forward to the goodies they bring for this device.
