I noticed we have an lte toggle on some roms for the s 4g. Is that only for a 4g connection or what does that do for our phones. tried to look it up myself but not getting any clearer.
It activates the dormant 4G LTE chipset in the phone. Fortunately they planned ahead in 2010 and got us prepped for the future.

I believe lte needs a special chip installed and our phones does NOT have it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
No...no ATT phone currently is LTE compatible.

The inspire is not lte capable and att does not have it out yet. Att has the h+ which uses the hspa service but is it's next gen. True lte uses the 700 mHz band which att doesn't have out yet and the inspire does not have a capable radio to utilize it.
Figured. What a lying sack of.....lol

I can tell you first hand that AT&T is slowly but surly getting ready to launch LTE. I am an electrician for a local contractor and we will be responcible for installing the LTE controllers and cabinets at many cell sites throughout PA, DE and NJ. Once we have them in place the cell techs will run the fiber then test and launch (who knows how long that will take)
After seeing the trouble that many ppl are having with Verizon ill stick with what I have for now.

For the last time:
Inspire can run on the LTE stack but can't take advantage of the LTE throughput.
So AT&T reps can say the phone is LTE "compatible" or "capable." Gullible consumer will assume Inspire can run LTE speed, while educated XDA readers know better.
You have to ask a more direct question of "will the Inspire be able to take advantage of the LTE speed?" Then the truth will come out.
If you pester enough, they'll sometimes do a 180 and claim HSPA+ will be just as fast as LTE. lol.
FYI, LTE (3.9G) runs voice & data on the same stack, versus 3G and HSPA+ (3.5G) which runs voice and data on separate stacks. LTE will always be faster no matter how much "backhaul" improvements AT&T makes.
Patiently waiting for LTE Advanced with 1Gb throughput....
What is funny is their website. For the inspire specs it says LTE. But only on their website.
The website doesn't say LTE...... it lists 4G: HSPA+/ LTE on the left and under the phones specs it says HSPA+. The left is just listing the 4G technologies that will be available, the right column where the actual phone specs are tell you it uses HSPA+. This is why people have gotten confused. To me it clearly says HSPA+, but I can see how it can get confused.

Hi, am leaving Sprint. Looking to get a used phone (no contract), that will work on monthly plans like TMo prepaid, Straight Talk (ATT)) w/out a contract. I'm reading good things about both the older Vibrant (SGH-T959), and the newer 4g (SGH-T959V). It's clear from my research that people are successuflly unlocking and able to go back and forth between TMo and ATT SIMs on the older Vibrant. What isn't clear to me is can this be done on the newer SGH-T959V?
Again, I don't care much about 4g. 3g on AT&T is fine. But while on TMo, the 4G would be nice.
Thanks!

Thanks Brandon. I will then pick up a used, older SGH-T959 (Vibrant), unlock it, and then enjoy the 3g flexibility of both ATT & TMo. It's strange, the T959V is supposed to support the same ATT 3g band as the regular T959, but I can't find proof of this anywhere.

I have SGS4G and am using ATT. I have 3G with no issues...
posted original question here by accident
I am using unlocked 4g on Cincinnati Bell wireless and the 3g works fine.
However I have not been able to get 4g at all on my phone. When I put a Tmobile sim in it works fine one 4g.
I get a little over 2 mbps download on Cincinnati Bell 3g.
You can just unlock it, I'm using mine on att right now. Only thing is you have a backup sync for T-Mobile instead of att.

Yes it can.
I tried my friend's AT&T sim card and it worked with 3G.
Hmm, has anybody gotten 4G on this phone with AT&T?
Does 4G work with an unlocked SGS 4G on AT&Ts network?
no.

3G on AT&T will only work one one of the two UMTS bands: 1900 MHz.
Note that the Vibrant 4G doesn't have the 850MHz band (the other band that AT&T uses for 3G data.)
I've seen a posting that there's a way to activate the 850MHz band, but I have not verified that this works. If anyone has got this working so you're working on both bands on AT&T with your Vibrant 4G, let me know.
As an addendum to my own post, looks like the consensus is that while the Vibrant has an option of selecting the 850MHz UMTS band, it actually doesn't enable anything:

There are plenty of quotes on the boards, search is your friend.
It varies vastly by region. LTE is semi-consistent at 30Mbps+. HSPA+ can be anywhere from 1Mbps to 11Mbps. If LTE is available its the fastest connection available. But, its on limited markets on att.
Right now, lte is faster than hspa+ by around 10mbps (of course this can vary greatly). The difference is that lte is has much more potential. So in time, it's better to have an lte phone. But right now they are fairly comparable

Yeah, the i777 is the best, most powerful phone on att. Maybe the Galaxy S III will have LTE, or maybe a Note with LTE. There was just a FCC application for a Galaxy Note with LTE on att bands, but isn't proof it will actually hit att subsidized.
The Vivid is supposed to be nice, but its crickets in the dev forum, they only got the bootloader unlocked a few days ago. That will probably be the best bet for LTE phone.
The Skyrocket is just different enough it will stay forever in obscurity. The Nitro HD is a normal LG phone on att ... good build quality, poor dev draw, and don't plan on timely updates.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
Another thing on LTE, if you are on the old unlimited plan tons of people are getting throttled down to near zero, sometimes at less than 2 GB. So all that speed is wasted, and anyone that knows enough to know they want the extra speed will probably not get to use it for long.

Actually the skyrocket has an amazing dev community..mostly because of the fact that it can use the ROM's and Kernels of the T-mobile SGSII. And there is talk that it may be pentaband...the Radio's are interchangable as well.
Well this is interesting. How much are your guys speeds, and how much is your skyrocket if you have one?
are LTE network compatible with 4G? or LTE phones compatible with HSPDA+ phones? in other words, LTE phones and HSPDA+ phones work on different network or LTE phones can also receive HSPDA+ 4G data (functions)?
So i have read that T-mobile is getting LTE in 2013. Do that mean i have to get a new phone again, i wonder if my GS2 will get faster on the new network. And where the hell is my ICS update? This suppose to be their best phone as of now.

Your phone will not run on LTE. But T-Mobile's HSTPS+ network is pretty fast and will be in operation for years to come, longer than you'll keep your present phone.

so HSPDA+ and LTE has different network? LTE phones cannot receive HSPDA+ networks?

Present HSPDA+ phones will not work with LTE. I suppose some future phones may be capable of HSPDA+ and LTE. But my next phone will be HSPDA+. It will be around a long time, it's pretty fast and uses less battery power anyway.

Maybe the OP is in a transition area. Last summer when Sprint was updating everything in my area my LTE was horrible. Now I get it almost everywhere I go and it's pretty fast.
Just got a 920F and it only shows 4G, but not LTE. I'm on T Mobile and my Nexus 6 is on LTE. Is there any way to turn LTE on?

All S6 unlocked models support 4G. But I heard that G920i support more popular 4G bands. Someone needs to confirm though!

I hoe this will clear it up for you http://lmgtfy.com/?q=4g+vs+lte
You need to make sure you have LTE switched on, it looks like your phone and network are compatible
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4988
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s6-6849.php
You could just be in an area that doesn't have good 4G coverage though
The 2 phones sitting side by side nexus 6 is on lte (previous phone d801 was on lte at the same spot) the s6 just will not cave in even though in the settings it set to LTE . It is on 5.1.1
