[Resolved] [Q] HTC Sensation vs Samsung Galaxy S2 best choice for me? - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I have dilemma, the time has come to buy new smartphone
I know this question was considered many times but let me describe my point of view.
My adventure with smartphones started with Nokia N82 and now I have HTC Desire Z. I was really happy having Desire Z and HTC made a real impression on me. Now I am considering to buy HTC Sensation or Galaxy S2. I really liked dev support for HTC and Cyanogenmod ROM and also other ones. I didn't use stock ROM. I am reading about many positives for SGS2 like display, camera, RAM and cons like Touchwiz, display resolution.
I would prefer to choose HTC maybe beacuse I know their product, I didn't have any samsung before.
My preferences:
For me the most important is performence, customization possibilities and dev support. I don't care about outside but only what is inside. I like sometimes to grab a picture or record a movie. For sure I am using the phone for multimedia: playing, web browsing and waching films. It would be nice if some newer games could be played smoothly. And I was really impressed by HTC custom ROMs (especially CM7).
Could you give me any view for situation repsecting my preferences? I wouldn't like to miss HTC and would like to have sure I will be satisifed if choose SGS2 (it said better performance/hardware).
I hope you understand my uncertainties.

[Q] [Suggestion]Which android phone should I go for?

Hi Guys,
I am planning to move to android phone and have zeroed on to some phones, i would love to hear your suggestion on these phones and which one should I prefer.
I would like to have a near future proof version both in h/w and update capability spec...(I am a HTC fan but willing to move to other manufacturer)
Ur suggestion are warmly welcome.
1. HTC Incredible S
2. Samsung Nexus S
3. HTC Desire S
4. HTC Desire Z
My Choice
All of them look awesome devices, but if I were you I would discard the HTC Desires and the Incredible: as to my know, none of them has a camera zoom, and, since I want my mobile to be a portable camera, this would be a huge problem for me. Therefore, the Desire Z's HSDPA and HSUPA speed are pretty low. The Incredible has a 8 megapixel camera, that, in my opinion, you can't completely exploit since you don't have a zoom.
So, my choice is Samsung Nexus S, it runs Android 2.3 (that looks awesome) has a very good camera and connection speed, and, last but not least, a huge amount of internal memory, that is pretty useful to store many applications. In this way, you could also avoid to partition your SD card (as I had to) in order to have space for big apps.

Thanks a lot for providing the information on each set. My brother bought Nexus S, an awesome device but again it does not have a camera zoom!! which i think you missed that . and found some issues in its GPS, was comparing it with an Iphone4. I have researched more and planning for Desire S(not yet reached the retailers here in India), as it is almost simmilar to Incredible except the camera and it Desire S has Android2.3
What do you people suggest about DesireHD?
Thanks again bagongs for you time
I personally love my Incredible but it's definitely a matter of personal opinion and research. If picture taking (especially the zoom feature) is really important to you, I may not choose the Incredible.
If you plan on rooting and messing with custom ROMs, I have loved my Incredible for this purpose. The touch screen is very responsive and I've never had problems with my GPS. A problem that I have had however is with battery life.
The Samsung has excellent battery life and a much more vibrant screen, so if this is an important factor you may consider the Samsung.
Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the Desire line of Android phones. I've never been disappointed with any HTC phone that I've owned though. Just do your research and if you get a chance, try and play around with a couple of them if you have a retailer that carries them. You can also look up some videos of how they perform on YouTube and cnet as well as read some more customer reviews on each.

Thanks guys for your suggestions and now I am a proud owner of a desire S loving it....

help me choose a new phone?

Ok, I still have the tp2 on wm 6.5, lol I know..but finally I dropped it and it cracked the screen so I'm finally looking to get a new one..
I have been holding off forever b/c I was waiting for WP to develop and I havent been following it so much so, my question is which phone to purchase??
Android or WP and which are the best phones of each, must include keyboard tho..please help thanks
all the good phone or smartphone these days are touchscreen. if anything buy G2 from TMobile very powerful Android phone. It has physical keyboard. go to yuotube and watch some videos of rooted G2 phones.
I strongly recommend you an android phone. Atm the Galaxy 2 from Samsung should suit all your needs.
Which kind of physical keyboard do you want, horizontal or vertical?? The HTC Desire Z / G2 is probably one of the best phones on the market right now with a horizontal keyboard, but it's getting old...
If you want one with a vertical keyboard, but don't like them blackberries, you should take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Pro. More info about this one on www.samsunggalaxypro.com
I don't really follow up on WP7 phones, as i don't find that OS as attractive as Android
Hey if you have a good budget wait for the HTC Sensation, it'll take over from the HTC Desire HD as their flagship device. Good uuality device, dual core, good camera, great screen with gorilla glass... etc.
Why? IMHO HTC provide better support than Samsung, and their products are well made. I've had Samsung products in the past, lots on the spec side but always let down by poor support.
Another good reason is to find a device which should be popular amongst modders. The HTC Desire HD was extremely popular, lots of great custom ROMs, and I'd hope when the new Sensation comes out eventually there'll be more.
have you looked and the xperia arc?

Nexus S vs Desire HD vs Galaxy S i9000?

Hi guys,
I'm an ex-owner of pocket Androids, HTC Aria and HTC Wildfire. As i lost both of them yesterday after being snatched, I'm thinking to avenge my lost my something new, and better, but still, Android ofc.
So since yesterday, i've been thinking about these three phones but still, i cant decide which one to go as all these 3 met my budget requirement. So guys, would you mind helping me decide on which device i should aim for? As i never use any samsung phone before, can anyone advice me the quality of the phone?
ps: i use a lot of gps, cameras, wireless for my daily work routines, and play games and watch movies to release tension.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
afiQ
If it were me, I would choose Desire HD.Because of its better GPS functionality.
If I were you, I choose SGS is the best, too bad there's no flash on camera
HTC , because: better GPS , Flash , Big Screen , Sense .
what about nexus s? i heard it is comparable and maybe even better than iphone 4? is it worth?
I use Galaxy S, what I can tell you is that Galaxy S is really really really a good phone, I love it.
I'm the owner of SGS. I suggest you to choose Nexus S. You will get more support from Google directly.
Can't speak to the HTC, but I have both the Nexus S and SGS. Both are great devices, and very similar, but speak to very different users.
Choose the SGS if you want a wide selection of custom ROMs, fantastic user support, loads of device-specific apps, etc. Choose the Nexus S if you want timely 'official' OS updates or absolutely must have a camera flash.
Having both side by side, I'm impressed by how smooth the Nexus S w/ stock GB feels compared to my heavily customized SGS GB ROM. The SGS still wins in Quadrant and synthetics, but the Nexus just feels smoother, and is general more bug free.
Cheers

SGS, Nexus S, SE Arc, Tab
I prefer to have the Desire HD due to the fact that I like Sense very much.
Desire HD FTW! A really good device.

[Q] upgrading to new phone

im thinking bout upgrading to a new phone and planning on rooting it and putting a rom on it but before i get sucked into another 2year contract, i wanna know out of these 2 phones, which woud be better and have a better experience with when everythings up and running. the 2 phones are:
HTC Inspire (TM) 4G
Samsung Captivate (TM)
if anyone has either or have had both phones, telling ur experience with the phone would be great. thank you!
Well I have a Captivate, and it looks like the Inspire, hardware wise, is a much better phone. Plus most people with androids, that I know, favor HTC.
I love my captivate, but only rooted/rom'd....the stock firmware is crap. So it's a great phone, and it may be cheaper than the inspire...so it's worth getting but only if the inspire is more than you wanna pay, if they are about the same....I would say the Inspire, just looking at the hardware.
HTC builds better quality hardware (more durable) but if you compare it with Samsung, HTC has always lower specs e.g less RAM, etc.
HTC is also better than Samsung in term of software support such as updates.
HTC phones a re of course more expensive than Samsung if you compare purely from hardware specs.
Samsung is not bad, Samsung is still one of the best phone manufacturer in the world...HTC is just simply better.
The HTC Sense is very resource consuming but a lot...I mean...a lot prettier than any of Samsung UIs...due to this matter, HTC phones are prettier but slower compared to Samsungs....but of course if you flash HTC phones with AOSP, there s no difference here.
The less good thing about HTC phones at this moment compared to Samsung is mainly due to that Samsung uses AMOLED display family, which makes a huge difference if you use the smartphone under sun light.
BTW:
All Android smartphones are a lot better with root access. If you want an Android phone and if you want to use it to its full capability, make sure you root it. You can have tons of things which are impossible to get without root access.
The best example available is that HTC has said it is impossible to have Android gingerbread with Sense for Desire (before they took back what they have said) but if you root, you can even have Android Gingerbread plus Sense 3.0, which is actually two steps more advance then the one HTC has said it were impossible.
thanks everyone. i was afraid it would come down to everything u guys said lol.
which ever phone i do choose to get, i plan on rooting and putting the most stable and best rom i can put on the phone. one of the big reasons why i want the 4G* phone is the 8MP camera. but i also hear that the battery life isnt to good on that phone. ill have to think hard and long bout my decision. thanks again!
If you want to have a smartphone with potentially good battery, I believe you will perhaps like the new HTC EVO 3D since it has a 1730mAh battery while the other has below e.g Desire with 1350mAh.
Edit: Please correct me if I am wrong with those numbers.

[Q] Why Samusng GS2 wins over HTC Sensation ? I'm going crazy

Hi,
I'm really going crazy!
I sold my iPhone 4 recently and now I can't decide which phone I'm going to buy.
I hate The Galaxy S2 TouchWiz, I didn't leave iPhone world to get that hell, My android geek friend is saying that I'll be able to change the GUI to any one else using an app.
I tried galaxy s 2 that belongs to a friend and it's :
1. looks bad, difficult to control because the Display is almost 99% of the front .
2. TouchWiz is the worst GUI I've ever seen in my life, they tried to stole the iPhone GUI but they failed.
3. There were a very classic game running in the background and I opened another extremely simple game with no 3d or massive motion or any king of high quality content and it hanged , The task manager told us that it was using a lot of CPU, My iPhone was capable of running a 700MB game like Real Racing 2 while running another 15 Apps in Background, and the display was Retina while I can see a lot of pixels in the Samsung.
The point is where is the "super" part in the damn samsung ?????
I really want to buy the best phone in the market and those two are the best and available phones in Egypt, I don't care about NFC it's not available here.
I really like The HTC Sense GUI and I'd like to buy a phone that I smile when I look to it, the Most important things to care about are :
1. The internal memory ( GS2 16 GB , Sensation 1 GB ) , is this memory where you download apps ? will it be available to download and install +1 GB of apps on the sensation ?
2. GS2 is better according to GSMarena's review, is this noticeable ?
3. the Ram difference.
please tell me what do you think.
thanks
I just plainly prefer HTC phones, myself. I checked out the Sensation and found it to be excellent. It's HTC's new flagship phone. I have the previous flagship HTC phone, the Inspire 4G/DesireHD, and it is a purely superb device. It works so well and Sense 2 is a genuine pleasure. Sense 3 in the Sensation is even more of a pure pleasure.
You can certainly install other UIs in the SGS2, but they won't be native to the phone like TouchWiz is. With the Sensation, Sense 3 is native. You would have a most outstanding and pleasurable phone right out of the box.
Sounds like you already know what you want.
I hate touchwiz however I like samsung phones. Mine has the Darky rom installed and I use other launchers to change the ui.
I'm not a sense fan but you can make it look like sense if you want.
The memory its very important to me. Some games like say Gun bros etc... Have additional large downloads and I store a lot of music.
I run many apps and the processor is great and had never failed or hung.
Since switching to the new rom, my battery has lasted 24 hours and is only half used. I am a heavy user of the phone

Please I want more opinions and anyone to answer the remaining questions
I guess I have a simple question:
What game was running? Where was it from? Any person could make a poorly coded app that doesn't utilize resources correctly all.
The GS2 is a powerhouse of a device, much moreso than the iPhone4. From what I understand the iPhone doesn't do any true multitasking either, not at least like Android - I may be wrong - but I thought it more like pseudo multitasking like what WP7 was to utilize.
