Nexus S vs Desire HD vs Galaxy S i9000? - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
I'm an ex-owner of pocket Androids, HTC Aria and HTC Wildfire. As i lost both of them yesterday after being snatched, I'm thinking to avenge my lost my something new, and better, but still, Android ofc.
So since yesterday, i've been thinking about these three phones but still, i cant decide which one to go as all these 3 met my budget requirement. So guys, would you mind helping me decide on which device i should aim for? As i never use any samsung phone before, can anyone advice me the quality of the phone?
ps: i use a lot of gps, cameras, wireless for my daily work routines, and play games and watch movies to release tension.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
afiQ

If it were me, I would choose Desire HD.Because of its better GPS functionality.

If I were you, I choose SGS is the best, too bad there's no flash on camera

HTC , because: better GPS , Flash , Big Screen , Sense .

what about nexus s? i heard it is comparable and maybe even better than iphone 4? is it worth?

I use Galaxy S, what I can tell you is that Galaxy S is really really really a good phone, I love it.

I'm the owner of SGS. I suggest you to choose Nexus S. You will get more support from Google directly.

Can't speak to the HTC, but I have both the Nexus S and SGS. Both are great devices, and very similar, but speak to very different users.
Choose the SGS if you want a wide selection of custom ROMs, fantastic user support, loads of device-specific apps, etc. Choose the Nexus S if you want timely 'official' OS updates or absolutely must have a camera flash.
Having both side by side, I'm impressed by how smooth the Nexus S w/ stock GB feels compared to my heavily customized SGS GB ROM. The SGS still wins in Quadrant and synthetics, but the Nexus just feels smoother, and is general more bug free.
Cheers

SGS, Nexus S, SE Arc, Tab

I prefer to have the Desire HD due to the fact that I like Sense very much.

Desire HD FTW! A really good device.

[Q] Help Me Choose a Smartphone plz

Hi Guys,
This is my first thread in the android section cuz I have been a windows mobile user for a long time with my SE xperia x1.
Now i'd like to buy another phone and unfortunately Windows Phone 7 lacks a lot of things so I'll go with an android phone. I think that froyo is really good.
I thought about the SE X10 but it only has android 2.1 and no official update for or no update at all for 2.2 which reflects how hard it'd be to update to any further version.
I also did some reading and found that Android 2.3 is soon to come and its minimum requirements are 1ghz processor and 512mb RAM. and I want to be able to update to it when the update comes out, so i want a phone with these minimum requirements and to currently have android 2.2 froyo on it.
so if u plz guide me to a phone with these specifications and not very expensive i'll be very thankful
T-Mobile's HTC G2 is a good phone, it has stock Android 2.2 and since it's one of Googles phones it should get the 2.3 update fairly quickly. Also Motorola's Droid 2 is stock 2.2 so it will get the update faster than other phones and has a 1ghz processor, and the Nexus One is probably the best Android phone out there.
Thanx for ur reply but sry i forgot to mention that i'm from Egypt and i'm going to get this phone from UAE so unfortunately there's no carrier phones so T-mobile g2 is not an option
An unlocked Nexus One should work over there. Do you're carriers use GSM?
I guess so, but I won't find a nexus one I'm not buying online
Well The Nexus One is the safest card at the moment. It will most likely be upgraded to gingerbread.
So if you can get hold of a nexus one, I think your problem is solved.
Here's something to read...
http://www.brighthand.com/default.a...ingerbread+3.0+Nexus+One+Upgrade+Release+Date
Thanx for your help, Bu I don't Think that the nexus one will be available where I'm buying plus honestly I don't think it looks beautiful either
so is there any other phone to consider??
The update to 2.3 doesn't have to be official but if the phone have the minimum requirements I believe that someone here at XDA will get the update running on it in no time
so any other recommendations ??
EDIT: There's a Probability that the Nexus One might be available so I'd like to know what does it lack among the phones available now cuz it has ben out since Jan 2010 it must be late on something I guess
I dont own one myself , so I cant really tell you anything about its cons or pros or whatever. However its physichal aspects does seems to feel a bit old, compared to HTC desire that is...
Alright, Let's say that I go for the desire
do u think that it'll be getting the 2.3 update either officially or non-officially
one more thing, is there any drawbacks with the desire?
I have no idea when it come to the desire actually.
And no, I personally think desire is the best android handset out yet =)

I think the desire will not get an official 2.3. update.
But the Desire is almost the same as the Nexus One, which will get the 2.3. update, so there probably will be lots of 2.3.-ports for Desire from Nexus One.
I would'nt got for a SE-device, because imho their support is bad (updating on 2.1. when 2.2. already has been released 6 months ago WTF).
Regards
Yes I agree and as they both have practically the same specs, It would be bad marketing if they didnt offer a upgrade to the Desire aswell in my opinion...
Personally I would recommend the Galaxy S because the support is decent, it has a lot of supporters (custom roms, custom kernels, AOSP-ification etc).
Also hardware wise it is superior to anything on the market right now (strongest graphics chip) and the Super AMOLED is something out of this world! you have to see it to believe it.
Optionally you could wait till January for Nexus 2 which is a (?) modified version of galaxy S with gingerbread.
Secondary I could recommend the N900, it's an AWESOME hacking phone, just got USB hosting support (USB drives etc) and it looks like nokia might bring MeeGo to it after all.
But it's early adoption, yada yada, you'll have to take chances and learn some terminal commands and linux (no biggie) and in reward you get to run android, ubuntu palm pre apps (awesome games) at an almost perfect state(meaning phone, uit etc, games run perfect )!
Now what I would not recommend you to get is an iPhone.
The software support is awful, jaibreaking literally breaks the device (gsm etc...), buld quality, you must have read about it and buh-bye widgets flash and customizations.
's a blog about all that stuff, I keep reading and remain astonished...
http://theiphonefever.blogspot.com/2010/05/iphone-4g-screen-multimedia-flop.html
Yes you could buy a n900 and port it with upcoming nitdroid 0.0.9 (android 2.2.1)
But if you were looking to buy a android device in the first place I would not recommend to buy a n900 and port it to android and so on. I mean... gingerbread is soon to come and the NITDroid project is currently on the froyo stageline , in that case you would always be at least 1 year behind.
I wouldn't go for a galaxy S because of the lack of flash for the camera and the looks, I guess it looks kinda cheap and the desire is way better looking but I agree with you the super AMOLED is great.
and the n900 is very low on specs even if it'd boot android it'll be slow and laggy IMO, plus it's a NOKIA and for me this reason is more than enough not to buy it
and off course I wont even consider an iphone these phones r way stupid
I agree with nickownzya about SE phones I was astonished when I knew that the x10 got 2.1 while 2.2 was already out. why would they do that?!!!
so I guess I'll be either buying a desire or a nexus one, good looking, great support, and better hardware.
Thanx for the help guys
Desire and Nexus are cool but otherwise I hate HTC designs. Why do they always have to make that "spotted" back? what's wrong with a smooth finish?
Hard choice anyway, nexus seems to be close to the end of it's "lifetime" and kinda lags on specs HD video etc, but desire has more potential but doesn't have the same support...
Either way I don't agree about the galaxy looking cheap. SO far it's the only device with gorilla glass display (scratch proof so far for me) and it has the sleekest/thinnest shape of them all.
Also it has the strongest video hardware which will keep it from becoming obsolete a while longer than the competition. So far nothing takes full advantage of it though, unfortunately.
When it comes to design, it differs from a person to another. for me this plastic is too much plus it's a fingerprint magnet and I hate that. I would prefer a metal finish, metal buttons or even harder looking plastic with matte black or gray.
U seem to be a big galaxy S fan yourself and I don't hate it but If only they have added flash for the camera and took the whole thing and put it into a better looking body something like the milestone 2 which BTW also has Gorilla Glass display or a SE x10 I'd definitely go for it .
Anyway, Honestly I'd prefer the desire because of the same reason u mentioned .
Then go for desire, you wont be disapointed =)
Samsung galaxy s. You can't get better hardware.
Its not perfect out of the box.
Infact it need little care, but then its great.
I had an iphone4 before i did buy my sgs. Well now i don't have a iphone 4.
Sent from GT-I9000 jpo. My own kernel for z4mod and with 342MB Ram

We are not Jesus Christ or prophet mahomet....
There is plenty of threads to look for if you want an android phone. As I know... no one here works at google or at HTC ... we don't know nothing about gingerbread and wich one is gonna be updated and when. Google, youtube... make your homework. There's plenty of videos and reviews on the net...
I thought egyptians still use papyrus to communicate... no?

[Q] [Poll] What would you prefer; MT4G, G2, Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy S

Your vote is depending on; performance stability(over-clocking), speed(while multitasking, games, Etc), sleekness of phone(screen, colors, crispness), and stability of custom Rom(since not everyone is using the same ROM) and the current Device you are using of course.
If this post is in the wrong location, Moderator please move it to proper location please.
PS PLEASE list your pro and cons about the phone you are using.
I like the hardware of the galaxy s but id prefer a lot more versatility of rom's.
I got to play with a nexus s the other day and fell in love.
All the phones are similar. The G2 and the Nexus S will have stock Android with no skin overlays like the Samsungs and the MT4G. The Nexus S is the only one running the latest Android (Gingerbread) and is probably the only one which will see it officially. The Nexus S will also see a few future upgrades like Honeycomb and whatever is next.
The Samsung Galaxy S is already outdated with the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy S 4G that is due out soon. It basically is a Galaxy S with a front facing camera and ability of 4G (which only the Nexus S lacks).
So it is a crap shoot. I have a Nexus One and we get Google updates all the time whereas other devices will get updates a few times a year. Also having a completely stock Android Experience tailored around your specific phone is awesome.
On the other hand, if you want the best experience, most use Cyanogen roms. They are great because they offer a ton of flexibility and functionality over traditional stock roms. So if custom roms are your thing, then getting constant updates from google really doesn't matter as the awesome devs will disperse the updates to any popular model.
Personally I would pick a Galaxy S if I had to choose out of that list. My Nexus One is plenty awesome still to hold out for something better. The Dualcore phones are due out soon and I think those will be the next standard in Androids.

[Q] [Suggestion]Which android phone should I go for?

Hi Guys,
I am planning to move to android phone and have zeroed on to some phones, i would love to hear your suggestion on these phones and which one should I prefer.
I would like to have a near future proof version both in h/w and update capability spec...(I am a HTC fan but willing to move to other manufacturer)
Ur suggestion are warmly welcome.
1. HTC Incredible S
2. Samsung Nexus S
3. HTC Desire S
4. HTC Desire Z
My Choice
All of them look awesome devices, but if I were you I would discard the HTC Desires and the Incredible: as to my know, none of them has a camera zoom, and, since I want my mobile to be a portable camera, this would be a huge problem for me. Therefore, the Desire Z's HSDPA and HSUPA speed are pretty low. The Incredible has a 8 megapixel camera, that, in my opinion, you can't completely exploit since you don't have a zoom.
So, my choice is Samsung Nexus S, it runs Android 2.3 (that looks awesome) has a very good camera and connection speed, and, last but not least, a huge amount of internal memory, that is pretty useful to store many applications. In this way, you could also avoid to partition your SD card (as I had to) in order to have space for big apps.

Thanks a lot for providing the information on each set. My brother bought Nexus S, an awesome device but again it does not have a camera zoom!! which i think you missed that . and found some issues in its GPS, was comparing it with an Iphone4. I have researched more and planning for Desire S(not yet reached the retailers here in India), as it is almost simmilar to Incredible except the camera and it Desire S has Android2.3
What do you people suggest about DesireHD?
Thanks again bagongs for you time
I personally love my Incredible but it's definitely a matter of personal opinion and research. If picture taking (especially the zoom feature) is really important to you, I may not choose the Incredible.
If you plan on rooting and messing with custom ROMs, I have loved my Incredible for this purpose. The touch screen is very responsive and I've never had problems with my GPS. A problem that I have had however is with battery life.
The Samsung has excellent battery life and a much more vibrant screen, so if this is an important factor you may consider the Samsung.
Unfortunately I am not very familiar with the Desire line of Android phones. I've never been disappointed with any HTC phone that I've owned though. Just do your research and if you get a chance, try and play around with a couple of them if you have a retailer that carries them. You can also look up some videos of how they perform on YouTube and cnet as well as read some more customer reviews on each.

Thanks guys for your suggestions and now I am a proud owner of a desire S loving it....

help me choose a new phone?

Ok, I still have the tp2 on wm 6.5, lol I know..but finally I dropped it and it cracked the screen so I'm finally looking to get a new one..
I have been holding off forever b/c I was waiting for WP to develop and I havent been following it so much so, my question is which phone to purchase??
Android or WP and which are the best phones of each, must include keyboard tho..please help thanks
all the good phone or smartphone these days are touchscreen. if anything buy G2 from TMobile very powerful Android phone. It has physical keyboard. go to yuotube and watch some videos of rooted G2 phones.
I strongly recommend you an android phone. Atm the Galaxy 2 from Samsung should suit all your needs.
Which kind of physical keyboard do you want, horizontal or vertical?? The HTC Desire Z / G2 is probably one of the best phones on the market right now with a horizontal keyboard, but it's getting old...
If you want one with a vertical keyboard, but don't like them blackberries, you should take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Pro. More info about this one on www.samsunggalaxypro.com
I don't really follow up on WP7 phones, as i don't find that OS as attractive as Android
Hey if you have a good budget wait for the HTC Sensation, it'll take over from the HTC Desire HD as their flagship device. Good uuality device, dual core, good camera, great screen with gorilla glass... etc.
Why? IMHO HTC provide better support than Samsung, and their products are well made. I've had Samsung products in the past, lots on the spec side but always let down by poor support.
Another good reason is to find a device which should be popular amongst modders. The HTC Desire HD was extremely popular, lots of great custom ROMs, and I'd hope when the new Sensation comes out eventually there'll be more.
have you looked and the xperia arc?

[Resolved] [Q] HTC Sensation vs Samsung Galaxy S2 best choice for me?

Hi, I have dilemma, the time has come to buy new smartphone
I know this question was considered many times but let me describe my point of view.
My adventure with smartphones started with Nokia N82 and now I have HTC Desire Z. I was really happy having Desire Z and HTC made a real impression on me. Now I am considering to buy HTC Sensation or Galaxy S2. I really liked dev support for HTC and Cyanogenmod ROM and also other ones. I didn't use stock ROM. I am reading about many positives for SGS2 like display, camera, RAM and cons like Touchwiz, display resolution.
I would prefer to choose HTC maybe beacuse I know their product, I didn't have any samsung before.
My preferences:
For me the most important is performence, customization possibilities and dev support. I don't care about outside but only what is inside. I like sometimes to grab a picture or record a movie. For sure I am using the phone for multimedia: playing, web browsing and waching films. It would be nice if some newer games could be played smoothly. And I was really impressed by HTC custom ROMs (especially CM7).
Could you give me any view for situation repsecting my preferences? I wouldn't like to miss HTC and would like to have sure I will be satisifed if choose SGS2 (it said better performance/hardware).
I hope you understand my uncertainties.
