I have been eying the mytouch4G and the HD7 for a while now and what I really like about the HD7 is that it has Windows Phone 7 (which seems nice and it seems to have nice gaming support)...so I also noticed the MT4G has better specs, so I was wondering if I get the MT4G, I would like to put WP7 on it if possible...anyone think its possible or anyone workin on somethin like that already?...or is it a stupid idea? haha...let me know
-thanks!
Windows? Oh man, no way! I came from an HD2 and the HD7 looks so ugly. IMO
But the developers here just might do it.
myTouch4G (Glacier)
Windows mobile is closed sourced like Sense UI, they can't port it due to lack of drivers that would be needed to make the phone work. But that doesn't mean you can't put android on WP7 phones, you can put android on Iphone too.
Yeah, but he's saying he likes the mT4G specs.
Looking at the HD7 i think it's pretty sweet looking - more true to HTC's "usual"design vs the (previously lame & teeny) myTouch models, and similar to the HD2. I'm just glad the Glacier feels so solid or I'd be looking at the HD2 or keeping the Vibrant.
This isn't a WP7 discussion, but unless MS releases regular & beefy updates you're going to be stuck with the likes of orig Android or iOS 1.0 - it appears to be lacking quite a bit, but if MS keeps on it then it may have a chance. If you're that interested in WP7 then consider the HD7 and put Android on it to boot.

I think you are referring to Windows Mobile....the HD7 does not have windows mobile like the HD2.. the HD7 has Windows Phone 7 (MS' new mobile operating system)...It looks pretty nice and smooth and is built upon specific specs which helps control quality and efficiency...also the gaming support its proclaiming is nice also as the MT4G has great specs (except the 'LCD' screen haha), but it does not have the gaming support for that level of hardware (at least not yet)...
S o my concern here would not so much be to put Android on the HD7 (which should be pretty easy considering the HD7 has basically the same hardware as the HD2), but my concern would be more of whether I could (or would be able to) put WP7 on the higher specc'd phone (the MT4G in this case)...but hearing that they use proprietary drivers makes me think it might not be as easy to put WP7 on the MT4G....
No!!!

so..
will there be WP7 on the MT4G?
jp, hahah..sorry... I just figure that nothing is impossible, so while some may say no...some may still try but I now understand how difficult it may be and why some may say no...
I know that when WM was MS's mobile OS, I did not see any natively Android phones bothering to boot up WM, but since WP7 is seemingly such an improvement - I was thinking maybe the tables may turn...?
Thanks for all the responses though...interesting stuff..
Wp7 an improvement over Android...?
You should probably just return any and alll phones you have for an iPhone with that outlook....

you should probably just return all of your school supplies now and for the rest of your life for a decent education in reading...
the statement says that WP7 is an improvement over WM...
and that since Android was a nice alternative OS for WM, now maybe Android users might think that WP7 might be nice to try out on their phone (or somethin along those lines)...
well you will do what you like...
but i cant even imagine perfoming such an atrocity

In my case i'm torn because I am a dev. I love android OS and dev on it as a hobby but I am a .net / windows developer as a trade and its really much easier to dev in .net (Visual studio is 10x better than eclipse) than c++ or Java IMO so I too would like to have the ability to stay on my sweet android os, but boot over to dev when i need to. yes yes, i know i can do emus, but its not a substitute for running on actual hardware.
Considering that the myTouch hasn't even been rooted yet I would say putting any other operating system on it would be a helluva feat!
This turned into a spiffle... I am almost afraid to jump in, but.... I got to. I think the ability to put WP7 on the MT4G would be friggin sweet. Now, now... I know some of you think "Why would someone want to do that"? Because we do, ok?
Freedom of choice baby! It's a beautiful thing!
Edit***
Just searching around for some Home apps and stumbled across these win 7 launchers.
Windows Phone Android Lite - haven't tried yet...
7 Launcher - Running now.. a little slow but eeehhh.. it's ok.
Android Seven Lite - Not WP7, rather Windows 7 emulator. Looks decent...
Sorry to reopen such an old thread~
But heres a link to a stable WP7 rom for the mytouch4G, if anyone was still looking for it. Its very smooth.

That's MIUI with a WP7 theme
If Microsoft went open source, the possibility of WP7 is slim since I assume you'd need to port the drivers to work.

simply no.

I really want to do this. please help if you can thanks..
Unfortunately this will not be possible as WP7 does not support the process in the Desire HD.
Someone would have to write the driver for chipset, which is highly unlikely to happen.
MS are supposed to be releasing a new spec for WP7 (probably at MIX) and it is possible that the new spec will include support for the same chipset as the Desire HD uses but until that happens, not possible
I have the normal Desire, and GSMareana is telling me that the Htc Mozart, Has the same chip set and all the specs are like the same apart from the OS...

No means no. I've got 1USD and its the same value as 1AUD, can i use it in australia? No. Just because 2 things are intrinsically the same they may be extrinsically different. Sorry man.
The Desire has exactly the same hardware as any WP7 device. In theory it could run WP7. The proof is the HTC HD2 which runs WP7. However somebody has to write a new bootloader and port WP7 as was the case with the HD2.
Anyone know what OS's I can port on my Htc Desire?
None at the moment and probably forever. There are only 2 phones in the world that can run miltiple OS's - The HD2 (WM6.5, Android, WP7 and probably MeeGo in the near future) and Nokia N900 (Maemo and Android). Of course some other HTC WinMo devices can run Android off the SD card but that's not a complete OS change because after reboot you are back in WinMo.
Just download launcher 7

Technically, if someone (or a group of developers) were to put down the effort, this could be possible. However, you have to keep in mind, most developers here work on their free time, and their lives are not dedicated to developing custom drivers and firmwares for all possible hardware. There has to be interest, and once there is, progress will follow. For now, there is no interest. Perhaps you could start something yourself OP.
i tell you how to get wp7, sell your desire, and buy wp7!

Without htc proprietary drivers for the specific device i highly doubt it's possible, and htc has no interest in realeasing something like that i guess...

I used to think Android would be better on my HD7, when I had it. But then NoDo came along and dealt with all of the issues I had with WP7 and now I would never put Android on my WP7 device. Of course, I no longer have my HD7. I moved to AT&T and got a Focus.
I don't recommend Android on your HD7. Wait until Mango gets here and enjoy the world's best OS.
Glad to say no, why would you buy a wp7 device and turn it into an android device when there's android devices with much more powerful hardware in a similar price range... Not to mention as shotty as that devices battery life is with androids poor power management you'd get so little battery life on it that it'd be nearly painful. Wp7 is awesome but this was a poor choice on your part.
I tell ya...if you want an excellent experience on an HD7'ish device, find an HD2 and flash Mango to it. I did with mine and have been floored how well it looks. My HD7 never looked this good. Mango must be handling the display differently than NoDo or how the HD7 handled it because it is amazing. It has all of the color richness of SAMOLED but in a crisper look...no pentile ugliness.

thats chinese copy of HD7.
Is it possible to run/port other OS such as Meego, Windows Phone, etc on HTC Sensation?
No, at least not yet.
In order for developers to port over Windows phone 7 on the sensation, they need to reverse engineer the whole OS, write drivers that work with our hardware and test it extensively to make sure it works.
The only reason, they got it to work on the HD2 was because a lot of the hardware was the same from the HD7. Hopefully the Sensation get's to be as popular as the HD2 so we can get other operating systems as well.

HD2 was my ex-phone, I lost it in the school.
You can usually pick up a new HD2 pretty cheap: eBay or Craigslist. That should solve your multi-OS desire. Not many, or any, other phones can do what it did.

You listed the reasons why people like HD2, it's development it amazing and the phone is nice to use...And the Sensation or any Android won't be getting WP7, Winmo or any closed source projects. Publicly porting WP7 is illegal and Microsoft or whoever will send the dev a cease & desist letter or email. You are not allowed to port Windows ROMs to non windows phone(Android, iOS,etc).

My HD2 finally went out on me. The touchscreen no longer works.
I have never been so sad about a phone ever.
Don't know if I'll get it fixed.

It started all this craziness for me.

What is so special about the HD2, is the ability to run so many dif roms/ports. It is a devs dream phone to work with. It is also very easy to flash rom/radios onto. It is so easy even I did it several times with mine, and I am really stup-it when it comes to stuff like that.
The phone has its quirks.. but overall it is a great phone. I had mine for 3 years before I sold it ($350. thats more then I paid for it new BTW) and never had a single problem with it. I would still have it if not for the Sensation.
It really is to bad that wp7 had to ruin the run/development of win op platform. There are so many possibilities still to be developed for it. Take a look at the HD2 forums and it is amazing what they have done and continue to do with that op system.
Ok then how about HTC Wizard? I have mine now...and the battery still keep alive about 4 hours...
Mine is Qtek branded - basically HTC's commercial brand in those times...
Remember that Wizard has started with WM5 and they put even wm6.5 on it...(to not mention wm6.0, and wm6.1). I dont think they managed to run WMP7 on it...
From my oppinion Wizard was a phone that will go in history with glory.
That cute slide keyboard...
Was to bad the absence of an internally GPS but paired with a Nokia LD-3W bluetooth GPS was perfect...

I doubt that any device can top the hd2 in development at this point .. Winmo 6.5/6.5.3, wp7/7.5, ubuntu, android 2.1/2.2/2.3, win95, sense 2.0/2.1/3.0/3.5 and probably when ics source code released it will go on it too .. totally loved that phone

I love my hd2's so much I have 2 as my "backup" phones I probably flash at least twice a week on them. The funny thing is of the 7 phones I've been through this year alone I can happily say the HD2 is the only phone that has never let me down and is still mine and my g/f's "go to" phone whenever our dailies take a crap or am awaiting to get a replacement or between phones....
I realize they are not pulling off some 4,000+ quadrant scores but at the same time none of my other phones have stayed intact or lasted as long as my HD2's have...I'm actually glad HTC provided all the crappy quirks such as sleep of death lcd, hardware button failures, short battery life and most importanly WinMo 6.5 and crappy initial firmwares as it only accelerated development for a means to Android on the HD2 Plus not to mention all the people that unknowingly sold their "bricked" hd2 for dirt cheap(as low as $75 in my neck of the woods on CL).
I hope my answer satisfies the OP.
Sorry guys, I am closing this thread as it does not belong to the SENSATION forum...
